Re: Toni Braxton - Long As I Live (80,918) (80,928) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love Toni and I feel like this song is certainly throwback to her debut album. Never understood why her work doesn't seem to be as noticed. Her voice is so distinct. Beautiful. Glad she's releasing new music, I'll check it out.

I laughed out loud at the part about the wigs and weaves being attached with crazy glue. It's funny and true. They would have to be fixed in whatever the perfect position she prefers is, so she wouldn't ever touch her hair lol.

Don't know if the link about her playing at Sandstone Point Hotel in Queensland, Australia is broken or what but when I click on the link, it goes to an article with the headline "Queensland developer Robert Comiskey" and one line below the date/time stamp that says "Developer Robert Comiskey says political donations did not give him preferential treatment". What does this have to do with Mariah?

Yes I love her new song and have been replaying it since this past weekend or whenever it was released. Makes me feel like 90s R&B is really coming back, which I love and grew up on. I loved Deadwood too, the video as well. I like the track with Birdman as well. Definitely built me up for the album, and I'll probably see her on tour for the first time.

Re: Obsessed (80,899) (80,919) by darrian liu from taiwan
I share the same sentiment. I love Mariah's music dearly, but after TEOM, she tends to be more formulaic in her approach to music. Not to say that she hasn't released gems after TEOM, but sometimes her songs are just plain uninspired (i.e, half of MOAIA, the latter half of MIAM, I Don't). Which is why I've been saying for years that she has to change up her sound. When I listen to more indie-leaning/alternative artists, I'm so impressed by their willingness to experiment with sounds. Even more mainstream artists, such as Lorde and SZA (although I'd say that they aren't exactly mainstream artists - they have a more alternative-leaning sound) have proven to be quite creative in their music. I wish Mariah would try to test out the boundaries of what she has formulated as the signature Mariah sound - hip-pop fusion with R&B and soul-inspired vocals.

Toni Braxton - Long As I Live (80,918) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Her upcoming studio album Sex & Cigarettes (coming out next month) is shaping up to be classic Toni. If Deadwood was great, Long As I Live is, if there is any justice in the world, a smash. She's still got it. This is her sound through and through. It has great repeat value. I don't think the credits are out yet, but this sounds very much like a Babyface production (is that him on the background vocals?). Beautiful.
Sidebar: I'd much rather Mariah get back with Babyface than Jermaine Dupri. Melt Away is one of the best songs on Daydream, and that's saying something.

Re: T4 music special (2009) (80,916) (80,917) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Exactly she's human like everybody else. I hate the fact that a lot of people wants everyone to behave like a machine or a robot. 24/7Perfect, always smiling: a living soul can't be like that. It makes everyone ill, if you can't act like a human anymore. No one knows what she was going through at this time, you can only imagine like Tjil said it must have been hell. To be human is great, to act like a robot is not natural and pretty unhealthy. I know many people with the modern "burn-out", people should be more aware if someone is "screaming" for help but most of all we should never judge "weakness". One said you must be very tough to show weakness. Love that quote. Everyone is struggling sometimes. I just wish Mariah a happy, healthy life. She's giving so much, she deserves more than success and money. She deserves inner peace and happiness. Sorry if I sound like a preacher, but that are just some thoughts.

Haha the cotton socks. I agree with what you said. She looks absolutely gorgeous in the black dress wearing her hair curly. Just stunning glamorous. But, as you said, it is during this era that she really started talking somehow in a lethargic way during interviews. Mind you, though, that it was around this time that she was about to become pregnant so maybe organically she was going through stuff. This is also, I think, something that many fans tend to forget, namely, that Mariah may have been through various situations health-wise over the years that we are not aware of and all we see is a small interview, which makes several people trying to deduct some deep truth about her state mentally, emotionally, career-wise and what not. She is human, after all.

She was going through hell at the time trying to get over a miscarriage and seeking medical assistance so she would be able to conceive. It's not always because of the splashes.

I think this period was one of her best, lookswise. But I recall she was always really "zonked" in interviews, either dead tired or valiumed to the eyeballs. Either way, bless her little cotton socks.

Unfortunately so true. I was watching the video "All The Man I Need". I almost started crying but held it together then they played "I Have Nothing". I straight lost it.

The holy trinity (80,908) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Out of all three women Celine has been the one that has remained the squeaky clean one, the press always favors her. Now both Mariah and Whitney have been ragged by the media up until Whitney died her legacy has been more respected in the years following her passing. Honestly I don't mind MC having her fun or doing things with her children it is all about balance for many years she was unable to have fun or have a life because of work and other things. I have come to understand that MC has a life outside of making music and doing things to make the fans and others happy and leaving herself feeling unhappy.

Lovely post I couldn't have said it better, Mariah to me has been uninspired for quite a while, you can hear it in the recent musical efforts, also I think Whitney's passing also played a big part in how she's just totally lost all motivation, I think she's conscious of the fact that she is truly the last of the greats so to speak, and the pressure to deliver must be stifling. Jermaine said it best when he said "when it's time for the voice to be heard she's the one to sing" and then there's motherhood, priorities change that's life. All in all I'm just glad Mariah is still around and all she's accomplished is no small feat. You cannot speak on the topic of contemporary music without mentioning Mariah Carey. So yeah I wish she could be more driven but certainly not losing sleep over it but I'm always gonna be here for her, supporting her and her ventures and new music, whenever she feels like she's got something to say through music.

That's not true. The general public called Whitney a crackhead who lost her voice up until she died. It wasn't until she died that they started back respecting and loving her.Whitney had many love/hate moments from the general public.
