Sometimes it's better to just focus on the music. That's all I'm gonna say. All the added stuff outside of the music mixed in with opinions most of the time gets to this. It's the holiday season. She looks great, she's sounding good and she looks super happy. Can we say amen to that?

I read somewhere that Justin or his team suggested Yours be included on the reissue of TEOM and Mariah politely declined.

Charmbracelet would have done better if she had actually sang instead of whispered. The One, I Only Wanted, My Saving Grace, Lullaby, You Had Your Chance, Subtle Invitation, Clown, and Sunflowers are some of her best songs. Your story is similar to my friend Patty's. Charmbracelet is her favorite Mariah album and was her first Mariah album.

I think she did cool sculpting which is an FDA-approved non-surgical fat reduction treatment. Plus she's exercising and rehearsing. She looks amazing. She hasn't looked this good since 2008 or 2013.

She did look good and I agree if it's working for her then I'm happy for her. I've noticed that many yo-yo dieters, at the end of their rope, tend to go for weight loss surgery as a final resort. Weight loss is mentally challenging for anyone but I also think there's a portion of people where it's extra hard and they need the extra help. Watching all of these weight loss surgeries over the years it always seems like there's a lot of emotion and psychology underlying it all.

Making a fool of yourself jumping to conclusions that have nothing to do with someone's post is called receipts these days? I didn't know. Thanks for the notice. Not surprised to see the age old bitter reference. Always an easy go to. Nice to see it's still alive and kicking.

I agree this era was very pivotal to "The Emancipation Of Mimi" era, this was the time Mariah took a step back, and reassessed everything, plans were made in this time on how she was gonna take back that no. 1 spot. She also started caring for her instrument more and it showed. If I'm not mistaken the term "lamb" was coined in this era for her cult following. And we each have a charmbracelet to prove it so to speak - the album. Lol.

Charmbracelet at 15 (79,631)

As grating as her whispery vocal delivery may be here at times, I will still have a special place in my heart for Charmbracelet because it was the first Mariah album I ever owned (in cassette back then). Unlike most of the world, Through The Rain was a massive hit here in the Philippines - it was like Hero for the 2000s and it was sung in every Sunday noontime variety show as well as all the popular local singing contests. Such success even spilled over to Boy (I Need You), which was also a sizeable hit in our country at the time. Even I Only Wanted got more airplay than Bringin' on the Heartbreak. Some songs on Charmbracelet are always gonna make me hit "repeat". TTR is still uplifting. Boy (INY) reminds us of a time when Mariah still was imaginative with her videos. Yours features perhaps Mariah's most meandering melody. IOW is still the perfect third chapter to her Latin-tinged saga of longing (My All and After Tonight, parts 1 and 2 respectively). Something about You Had Your Chance's melodic hook will always sound Cantopop-inspired to me. Lullaby is the sequel to The Roof, but sonically is the yin to that song's yang. Subtle Invitation is probably one of the classiest Mariah has ever sounded, even when she lets loose towards the end. Bonus track There Goes My Heart has a sweet, tropical vibe that Mariah has yet to employ again in any of her recordings since. And outtake Miss You never fails to get me going with its complicated chorus. A lot of people can be quite dismissive of the album. As a package, Charmbracelet is the amalgam of whatever Mariah wanted to get out of her system post-Glitter, that has primed her for one of the most impressive comebacks in pop music history. That's its significance in her discography. It humanized her.

Nowhere in my post did I say that Mariah doesn't work. It can't even be implied or inferred. That's something you 100% made up in your mind. I know exactly what Mariah did last year professionally and that still doesn't refute the fact that she also spent 2016 doing a lot of vacationing (not that my post was knocking her for that, anyway) or that every year she goes on vacation and if she were so in a hurry to see the world would dedicate some of those trips to it regardless of their so-called people oriented occupation. Mariah as a private person is a laugh as of three years ago. If she were seeing the world privately it would make zero sense for her to say that she hasn't seen the world due to work. A man or woman saying that they haven't seen the world due to work obligations is not a run of the mill quote or blurb.

We have seen Mariah's weight yoyo since 2000. She keeps getting in shape every 12-15 months. How is everyone convinced that this time it is a surgery because a tabloid reported it? Am I missing some confirmation here?

That version with JT got blocked by JT and his label because Mariah wasn't deemed relevant at that time. I heard he wanted it released after TEOM was released because she was back in top then. I don't know how true that is because it didn't make sense to release it then.

Wow. Fifteen years since Charmbracelet. This is a very special album to me too, Billy. Charmbracelet was when I truly became a Lamb. I was so impressed with how she recovered from her breakdown after the press had completely turned on her, seeing tabloid headlines everywhere like "Mariah's meltdown", "Batty Mariah looses her mind", "No more rainbows in Mariah's sky" etc. etc. She came back so confident exploring a new sound with her music. She didn't do what people expected musically, and I found that liberating and empowering. I agree with you, this is when Mariah developed her cult following, and solidified her legion of true Lambs. My favourite tracks are: You Got Me, I Only Wanted, Clown, Subtle Invitation and Bringing on The Heartbreak (her best remake of a song IMO). Has anyone ever heard the version of "Yours" she recorded with Justin Timberlake? I've always heard rumours of this version, but have never got to hear it.

My goodness so many things I could say about this album that I've already said many many times before. Lol Billy you pretty much summed it up. Vocally this album isn't a favorite for many fans, but lyrically she kills it. I feel every word of this album.

Lila have you been living under a rock? (79,623)

2016 alone saw Mariah doing a 5 month residency, a world tour, documenting her life, an entire cosmetics line with Mac, headlining 3 shows, her annual Christmas concerts and cutting her Christmas vacation with her kids short to do NYE. She was also featured in the movie Girls Trip. It's mighty pompous to assume she's not working simply because you don't have paparazzi pictures of it or she's not in your area. There's also a difference between taking a vacation on an island to get away from everyone for downtime when you live in a people oriented occupation and traveling for leisure for the fun of it. She did a lot of work with the Dead Sea cosmetics line, touring, creating movies, new music, and doing a lot of behind the scenes deals this year. Mariah's a private person. You're not going to be kept up to date on what she's doing with her kids or real private time other than the usual run of the mill media quotes and blurbs she wants you to know.

The kids were great on stage and Mimi looked nice and trim. It's a shame if it took surgery to make her limit her drinking and eating. She could have saved that money and the risks to her health. But glad if it is actually helping her.

"Charmbracelet" anniversary (79,621)
by Billy from Greece

Happy fifteenth anniversary to an album I hold dear to my heart. For me, CB is a transitional album, that took "Mariah" to "Mimi" and one that sort of signaled a new era for her. "Lullaby" and "Subtle Invitation", along with "Through the Rain" and "My Saving Grace", are some of my most beloved songs. There's plenty of gems on here. I won't say that it is Mariah's most accessible album, but it certainly is one of her most intricate and satisfying as a whole, especially lyrically. Just a unique moment in time for the lambs that experienced that era, because it sustained our patience and belief in MC. It was during those days that Mariah cemented her cult fan following, I think.

She looked great and she sounded great from the few clips I've seen. That red dress with the cape is to die for. I need to find a better clip of the kids singing their part for The Star. They looked like they enjoyed it (especially Mary Ann's son, he was so excited lol). Roc didn't look like he was spazzing out. Normally he's doesn't cooperate with being on stage. Lol.

The essence of lipsync (79,618)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
If a newspaper prints something which is not true, they are subject to being required to print a retraction. If an author plagiarises someone else's work or ideas they are sued. I fully believe that music artists should have to advertise that their vocals are prerecorded in arena or theatre concerts for which people have paid to hear them sing live. This should be in all advertising and perhaps even on the screens at the concert - when the prerecord kicks in a symbol should have to come on the screen to let the audience know. The intention here is to essentially dupe people into believing you did something that you did not. It's completely immoral. Why are music artist the only ones reall allowed to get away with lying about the service they are providing, with dishonesty, subterfuge? It makes absolutely no sense. "I can't sing this song so I'm going to get up on stage and pretend I did to still get the money."

And so it continued (79,617)
by Andrew from UK

Mariah used lip-sync when duetting with her mum on stage and now she's used it duetting with her children. Seriously, she can't sing The Star live? Pray tell, what can she sing all the way through without the assistance of pre-record? I genuinely want to know. It's not Hero. It's not Joy To The World. Its not Emotions. Now, it's not even The Star. Anything that's remotely above speaking level seems to be pre-record, unless it's the occasional "ohhhh" with head frozen looking up wth arm reaching out for God to give it some long-since heard resonance. Am I missing something here? How is this some sort of "return to form"? Star, indeed.

Beacon / first show (79,616)

Following the slayage that was the concert a few days ago, I won't lie, I got teary eyed watching clips from the first Christmas show. Forget that she looked gorgeous, like a goddess. Forget that she sounded phenomenal, impeccable. Above everything, she seemed to be well, "together". I am so happy and grateful to see her like that again. It only makes me angry at the same time to think what that disgusting woman and her idiotic daughters brought upon Mariah the previous years and how they were the source and reason of so much misfortune. But alas, that is in the past and Mariah is back. Amen.

Re: Why do some lambs talk about a comeback? (79,609) (79,615)
by Lila from United States

Personally, I don't think it's sad at all because Mariah not seeing the world due to work is untruthful of her to say, at this point. Mariah has gone on vacation every year for years now. On average it's 2-3 times (that we usually know of, anyway): Aspen gets one slot, the other 1-2 are dedicated to an island. Last year, every time we blinked, she was off to vacation on Packer's yacht or stay at one of his stupid hotel casinos. If she ever used these opportunities to go somewhere other than the expensive side of an island or seaside city, she could've seen more of the world, uninterrupted, by now. I don't think she's that pressed to. I do agree that it would be nice for her to take some time to just be a mom and I always find it disconcerting that she references the twins as being her best friends. Downtime could be good for her if she used the time to improve herself. She could just be mom, get some hobbies, make some adult friends, etc. However, I don't think she wants to. Otherwise, she would've done so by now. I think Mariah acknowledges things about herself and her life but it doesn't mean she actually wants to or is ready to change it. A little while ago she admitted publicly to low self esteem during an interview, not that most didn't already know. Yet, something tells me she hasn't done anything to actually rectify it. That I find sad.
