Thanks for the link, smooth performance actually and she sounds much better than on the record. When she improvised and sang higher on the second chorus, I was pleasantly surprised, smooth clean sound. Whatever she's doing for her voice, it's working.

Someone's Ugly Daughter (111,627)
by Edward from USA

Mariah is far from clueless, she knows exactly what she's doing. Do we really think Jimmy Fallon just happened to dig up an unreleased record and casually play it? Come on. That moment was clearly orchestrated. If it wasn't, you can bet Mariah would've quickly redirected the conversation back to "HFIA".
She comes across as calm, self-assured, and totally in control during that interview. The promo for "HFIA" has been strong, and let's not ignore the timing, the sudden reappearance of "Someone's Ugly Daughter" on SZA and Fallon interviews is no coincidence. Something is definitely up.
At this point, "HFIA" is already out, and no amount of extra promotion is going to drastically change its trajectory. The album speaks for itself, it's simply that good.
Let's just sit back and relax. Mariah's cooking something, and pretty soon, we're all gonna smell what's on the stove.

It will easily outlast "Caution". With HFIA Mariah's has created an album that really feels like the good old days. Music without too many producers, that doesn't need to sound current. It has a timeless sound except for "Mi" and "Confetti and Champagne" which get better and better too with each listen by the way. All songs blend so good together. Mariah surpassed herself with HFIA.

I've been addicted to the album. There is no skip to this album. HFIA is perfect, I can see why it's the album title. It's 6 and a half minutes yet it still feels short. The first 30 minutes of the song is a masterpiece, the cry in Mariah's voice it sounds like no one. Another great addition to Mariah's discography. I think this album will eventually outlast Caution.

I wish they would release an actual digital single download of Play That Song with a B-side and some remixes. Doesn't seem like the last two singles have actually been singles as no separate digital download. I guess it's to draw more people to the album.

Oh I thought it was a great balance between that and HFIA. It's just great to see her so relaxed and involved on the Jimmy Fallon interview. She looks great, she's confident, she's very much present and she's coming across fantastically. It's not the usual questions so I'm definitely here for it.

Can you please make sure Mariah is talking about Here For It All the album that mad us wait for 7 years, and not talking about that grunge album that is not officially released and does not need airtime during her interviews. All I see on social media is her snippets talking about that grunge album on Jimmy Fallon and other interviews and not Here For It All. Let's focus on Here For It All and have it shine, that grunge album can have its spotlights when it's time to release.

I agree. And it isn't even Mariah's voice on the recordings they have been playing. We all know that her friend Clarissa Dane recorded the vocals for the final version that Sony released in 1995. They are playing songs from an album that did get released that year but is out of print now. All of this was discussed five years ago when Mariah's book came out. Nothing new.

Anderson is smitten with Mariah. I love to see it. But Mariah's playing it a bit cagey, which I totally get it.
That performance was great. I am a little tired of hearing about "Someone's Ugly Daughter" though. All of us who read the memoir already knew about it, and I'd much rather have people ask about HFIA.
And if we're asking for unreleased material from the "vault", I'd much rather have "The Rarities 2", a 30th anniversary edition of "Daydream" this year, or a 25th anniversary edition of "Glitter" next year.

New voice (111,615)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I was almost in tears that she was singing live on Jimmy Fallon tonight. Just because I thought maybe her voice was really shot like people were saying. It's different, but I like it. It's crazy how every three albums we get a new voice from her.
When I first heard Sugar Sweet, I was scared because it was so thin and whispery. But just like athletes, we can't expect singers to stay at their prime forever. Mariah's prime was supernatural and I don't think it'll ever be matched. Her new voice and tones work for me. I liked Sugar Sweet before, but I love it even more now in the context of the album.
I've been playing My Love and Here For It All on repeat all day. I can't get enough. My Love makes me long for that kind of love. Maybe in my next life.
Sidenote: the original My Love was actually my first ex-husband's song for me. A long time ago. We went to see Paul McCartney and he sang "our song" a few years before we got a divorce. I thought it was a sign that I was supposed to keep trying to make it work. But of course he was going to sing that song. Ha ha.
For a long time I couldn't listen to that song. But now I just think, maybe he did love me in his own possessive way. Sometimes he said the right things and I really wanted it to be true. I really wanted someone to love me.
Anyway, this new version gives it a new life for me. Thank you Mariah. It's better than I could have hoped.

I didn't know that. So it makes the song even smarter. IWAI is allready a favourite, I loved it by the first listen. Somehow Mariah sounds like the debut-Mariah on some parts, the cool-carefree Mariah. Who is cool without trying. I hope you know what I mean. I just love it. All the melodies are so good and "so Mariah".

Article: Mariah Carey's music knowledge goes deep (111,613)

This is cool. Mariah's music knowledge is of course one reason she's so good beside her extreme talent. I'm sure she knows everything that is worth to be known. I just imagine a teen Mariah listen to an Ozzy Osbourne song and had to smile. By the way, I also like Tupac's "I ain't mad at cha" the best from all his songs.

Nothing is impossible / random thoughts (111,610)

Anyone feels like this is the continuity of "Close my eyes"? "I won't allow it." Who do you think it's about? I tend to say Nick (he once had a post saying he was diagnosed narcissistic) but also might be about Stella. I think Mariah in her recent songwriting is more elusive. I loved both her appearances in that Central Park walk and in Jimmy Fallon, specially that guessing game. I guess she can't say "I don't know her" about these celebrities. Also notice on Fallon appearance how she keeps her hand closed in a fist, she avoids keeping it open on its own and you feel it's always tense. There's definitely something, just hope it's not that bad.

Am I "Here For It All"? (111,602)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I wanted to really sit with "Here For It All" before posting my thoughts, and now that I've listened to it about seven times, I can say I'm pleasantly surprised, in the best way of course.
First off, the vocals. Mariah might not be belting like she did in the '90s, but she's definitely not whispering either. Her voice sounds fuller and more present, she's singing in her full voice again, and that's honestly so refreshing. The whole album gives me flashes of her early releases, and I love that.
Putting "Type Dangerous" and "Sugar Sweet" in the context of the album, I'm really happy they're part of it, they both bring a nice balance to the record. And while the lyrics of "My Love" are pretty simple, Mariah's straightforward delivery is just beautiful. It reminds me of the emotion and melody she brought to her early covers, heartfelt, effortless, and deeply felt. I'm definitely loving myself some "My Love".
For me, the standout track is "Nothing Is Impossible". It's honest, vulnerable, and that whistle at the end? Ethereal. Perfection. And just to clear it up: that "survived a gruesome fall" line isn't about a literal fall, it's clearly about an emotional one, which makes it even more powerful. So please, stop thinking she needs to go to the ER due to some broken bones from 2014.
I was a little nervous about "Jesus I Do" before hearing it, I thought it might turn into a scream-fest, but wow wow wow, they pulled it off. Their voices blend so well together, with its catchy chorus, it is, I believe, easily one of the highlights of the album, and Jesus knows that sometimes "I Don't".
Now, let's talk about the song "Here For It All." It's such a beautiful and heartfelt song. But as I said to my dear friend Randy, it would've been stronger if it had faded around the 4-minute mark. Not because what follows is bad, but because the vibe shifts so much it feels like a completely different piece that could've worked better as an interlude. I actually faded it myself at that point and it sounds amazing that way, like a perfect ending.
I'm also relieved the Mariah solo version of "Sugar Sweet" didn't make it into the standard album. Just Mariah singing her parts with the chorus on repeat without Kehlani's and Shenseea's verses doesn't really work for me. If she'd sung the whole thing, including their parts, that would've been a different story and probably fantastic.
And for anyone thinking this might be a farewell album, I think it's not. This feels more like liberation album. What I hear is a woman who's embraced where she is, let go of all the expectations, and is focused on the art, not the charts. It's her most honest and cohesive album in over a decade, one you can play from start to finish without skipping a track, just like the old days.
Also, that chorus from "Nothing Is Impossible"? It seems to be living rent-free in my head right now.
The wait was so worth it. With "Here For It All", Mariah seems to have freed herself from fear, from pressure, from the weight of "what could've been" and I love this album for that.
So, I asked myself: Am I Here For It All?, and a dramatic and resounding answer came instantly: You're damn right I am.

HFIA review (111,607)
by Haiji from United States
| |
|
|
I'm in love with this album. Let me just cut to the chase lol. I'm loving everyone's reviews. I haven't stopped listening to the whole album, no skips, the past 3 days. I'm actually listening to the album as I type this lol. Ok, so here it goes...
Mi - Nice opener. This one is for the youngins. It kinda reminds me of "I'm That Girl" by Beyoncé from Renaissance. Idk why that is though lol.
PTS - At first listen, I felt disappointed. I'm not sure on what I was expecting but it eventually grew on me and now I love it. As the next single, I'd wait for like the 5th single. I'm sorry, I have to agree with the webmaster, the video is boring lol watched once, sorry MC.
TD - I still love this song. As others have said, it makes sense to have it on the album to balance it out. Does anyone else also says the parts she says on the video ("you're blocking my light") as you're singing along?
SS - This song has grown on me. I wasn't a big fan of it at first but since I've been playing the album with no skips, I'm starting to appreciate it more. I heard the solo version twice and made me like the features even more. To me, the solo version sounds like it could've been the demo.
IYF - This is my favorite song on the album. Everything about it is perfect. This should be her next single not PTS. This is everyone's favorite while reacting on YouTube. I've also come to terms with her new voice and I'm still "here for it all". At first listen, I cringed at the vocal part to "picture" but that also grew on me lol. I love how she's doing more of switching up the beat at the end of her songs. Loved it on 8th Grade and Giving Me Life.
NII - I like it. I won't skip it but it's definitely my least favorite. It reminds me of Hero and like I've said here before, I've never connected with that song. Maybe one day it'll mean something to me. And tbh, her vocals at the end are not great to me. I appreciate the stripped down instrumental but I felt some more layers of vocals was needed to cover her vocals a bit.
C&C - Cute song, also for the youngins. I love the production. I can hear Brandy on it. It does remind me of Brandy's song Should I Stay?
IWAI - My 2nd favorite song. It's so fun and free. Loving the 70s groove to it. Also reminiscent of Beyoncé's "Cuff It". This should be the 4th single.
ML - I didn't think I'd like this one since I've heard the original and it never did anything for me tbh. Her voice sounds the best on this song. The emotion behind it, almost brought me to tears.
JID - Another favorite. Was so happy playing this while cleaning Saturday morning. I love that she came full circle with The Clark Sisters feature. I remember her debut era interviews, how she'd always mention her inspiration from them. Great song.
HFIA - I didn't like the snippet online. I loved the full song instantly. Beautiful song, sad song. It kinda reminds me of Butterfly, the song. Like her older sister. The ending had me elated. It was like a kiss on my forehead. Great ending.

Not a complete review but a few thoughts. It's getting better with repeated listens for me. Mi is like a reverse burning, getting better and better and insidiously catchy. [In your feelings] is probably my favorite on the album, and my favorite is not typically a ballad especially with her later work.
Also, fun fact: Nick was a spokesperson for Proactive back in 2012. Lol?

Sugar Sweet is really a great song with MC solo. I get a different vibe now. Why didn't they release the solo version first and then the version with Kehlani and Sheensea? This album really brings me so much pleasure listening to it in my car. I haven't been to the park yet because of moving this past weekend. I am going this coming weekend.

HFIA reviews versus Caution reviews (111,600)
by BFF from United States
| |
|
|
I've noticed that the reviews for "Here For It All" are much more lukewarm than the reviews for "Caution". The only way I can explain this is that "Here For It All" is an album that is not pandering to critics or a particular audience but is an album Mariah recorded for herself and for the "ride or die" fans. It's the kind of album that "Me I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" could have been if it had been released in its original iteration as "The Art of Letting Go", without the clutter of unnecessary, subpar tracks like "One More Try", "Heavenly", "Money" and those awful cut-and-paste "remixes" of "It's a Wrap" and "Betcha Gon' Know".
In contrast, "Caution" was an album that was rushed and lacked Mariah's signature touch because she was working with so many different producers. It was also clear that the label was pressuring her into working with current producers who don't understand her or her music. It also felt like "damage control" for the Stella years and like was pandering exclusively to the folks who became fans during "The Emancipation of Mimi" and later eras.
So many of the writers reviewing "Here For It All" seem to lack an understanding of Mariah's artistry and music and inventing things to criticize. In the Pitchfork review, the writer zeroes in on Mariah's purported "self involvement" as something to criticize. What recording artist isn't self-involved to a degree? I promise you that Beyonce and Taylor Swift are just as self-involved if not more so.
I also read a line where one writer claimed that "Memoirs" is a better album than this one. Say what? Who are these people? Have they ever listened to a Mariah album? There is not a single song on "Memoirs" that I like better than anything on "Here For It All".
