Patti is a dramatic soprano, which is known for their gargantuan size especially in their head voice and belts. There are even instances where she demonstrated that her head voice and belts still clearly audible without mic on live performances, even with the audience cheering. Mariah is a light lyric coloratura soprano, known for a girly bright tone, with a small volume but tons of agility and flexibility. Moreover, when they harmonized, Patti was using a very loud G#5 belt, while Mariah was using her whistle. Obviously Patti would drown out her voice even more. (Wednesday 22 March 2017; 23:41)

There is no unwritten rule that if Aretha Franklin sings everyone else must pretend that they can't. Demented people who think that Celine should "stay in her lane" are lambs clutching at straws, once again, to excuse a poor performance my Mariah - in this instance, on "Natural Woman". Mariah probably would've if she could've but she couldn't so she didn't (however, in saying that, I thought she whooped Aretha on "Chain of Fools"). Further, Celine was probably top billing for that show given it was the year of Titanic ("Oycberg, royt ahead") and with "Falling Into You" not long since winning Celine a new inch of neck at the Grammys. If anyone shaded Aretha, surely it was the production company or whomsoever cut other performed songs from the DVD/CD. "Top billing", indeed. If only the show were Divas Live 96: Mariah would've annihilated everyone there. Mariah was not the best, and it's certainly not "passive aggressive" to explicitly say so. Who's up for people using terms like that to understand to what they actually refer and to what they should be applied? "Passive aggressive"? Hmm, let me see if I can help. Ooh, I know. One example springs to mind - how about inferring someone who sang better than you was being disrespectful to somebody else? Haha. Oh, you have to have a little fun, now and again. In Mariah's defense (73,868) by Giovanni from USA Regarding Celine and Patti. Mariah tried her best at "Divas live". Clearly she was not in the best shape vocally but she still had the best voice on that stage and delivered two great performances. Celine had her moment with Aretha but Mariah's "Make it happen" was the best performance of the night in my opinion. Mariah is not the type of singer to go head to head with other singers. She has so much respect for her idols that's just who she is. Now with Patti, it doesn't matter who you are you can't out sing her. Patti is a dramatic soprano. She has the most loudest and most powerful voice type. It didn't matter if it was Chaka, Whitney, Jennifer Holiday or Celine Dion. Patti will destroy anyone. Mariah's performance with Patti was probably the most fun she's had with any singer. (Wednesday 22 March 2017; 22:40)

Mariah's over the top sexiness is such a turn off. I was all here for "Beautiful", but "I don't" is disgusting. Hands down her worst video ever. Mariah is so much better than that. Doing riffs and runs and exchanging parts while looking glam is all par for the course. I think Mariah's shady comment about Celine competing with Aretha was clearly her own insecurities manifested outwardly. I still hold the same opinion I had back then that Mariah's voice sounded fried and really bad especially compared to any of the other females there. Had her voice been like it was in 93 she would have been the one doing all the magic Celine's voice was doing. I think Mariah was jealous that her instrument is damaged and gives to right to shade Celine or anyone else. Celine is such a geneuine nice person and another great singer. I love that duet, I've watched it a million times, and it is still one of my favorite duets from her, but if that isn't outsinging, I don't know what it is. Mariah sounded great that night and she doesn't need to have vocal battles with other artists to prove anything. It's called staying in your lane. I swear some of you all really need a grip on reality because you sound like a broken record with pent up anger that's passive aggressive towards someone you don't even personally know. SMH. The Emotions "Untouched" album (73,859) by Terna from Nigeria Growing up, I loved this album and wore out the vinyl playing it over and over again. Lol. So you can imagine when I heard "Dreamlover" and that unmistakable sample from "Blind alley" it was an instant hit to me. Listening to the album now, I definitely hear the vocal influence they had on Mariah, and even an influence on song structure and vocal performance. Reading that title, I thought it was going to be an indepth analysis of her voice and vocal technique. Instead it was one chopped up, badly written and organized summarized article. I love that he has such a wide range of influences, he writes, sings, produces and performs live. I love his stuff but not every artist is going to resonate with everyone, so I respect how you feel. I also appreciate so much that he has remained authentic, genuine and humble. He doesn't seem to ever be to caught up in what people think in that he says what is true for him in a take me or leave me kind of way. I think I still love the X album more than Divide. However I still love Divide at the same time. I think sometimes too, when an artist becomes really popular they can be everywhere so they can be overplayed too. Hypocrisy, here I come (73,850) (73,853) by Edward from USA I agree with you Randy. Had Mariah stood up and sung against Aretha, people would've been: "Wow, Mariah really delivered." A 56-year old Aretha was in a playful mode that day, and she made the call, Celine answered the call and didn't disappoint. And yes, my friends back then made fun of me because they said Mariah's voice couldn't be heard. I also felt embarrassed because even though Mariah tried it, she didn't sound great and her voice was drowned just like when Patti LaBelle annihilated a still young Mariah when they sung "Got to Be Real". Mariah once again tried it, but not even her whistle could save her. So, good for Celine. We were all watching "Diva's Live" that day to see the "Divas" let it all out. Mariah solo performances were good though. I don't understand the hypocrisy. Had Mariah done what Celine did, and had Celine been the one who made the comment Mariah did, people would be singing a different song. Everybody seemed to be OK when Mariah outsang Luther Vandross in his own concert, it was an epic duet and Mariah killed it. I haven't heard anybody complain about that. He's a good singer, soulful and a great lyricist, but I guess it's all a matter of taste. I remember when I got into Mariah, some people couldn't understand why I was so into her music. About Ed, I do like that he's very humble, he hasn't let his great success go to his head. The fact that looks like any regular guy is also cool, much more relatable to me. Out of all the crappy music out there, for me, his music is a breath of fresh air. His albums "Divided" and "Multiply" I can listen to without skipping a track, something that used to happened to me only with Mariah's music. Ed puts himself into his music, he's driven and doesn't disappoint. Other than Bruno Mars, I don't like any of the stuff out there. (Wednesday 22 March 2017; 14:03)
