Why recreating WBT? (71,766)
by R&B Junkie from Poland
| |
|
|
I've been listening to Solange Knowles' "Losing You" and I wonder why they keep on trying to recreate WBT. I know it was the song of the decade but it is not the best song that Mariah has delivered in her career. Y'all should check out Solange's effort: there is happy funky tune mixed with sad lyrics - isn't it similar formula to what MC did with Fantasy? They did great job with You Don't Know What To Do, we know it failed because of various reasons, but they better put all their forces into Fantasy pt. 2 at least if they want to do some pleasure for me.

Social media (71,765)
by Will from England
| |

I know she's on a self-imposed social media break, however it is strange that if there is a song to be released tonight/whenever, there's nothing more to go on other than the snippet we've all heard now. Literally no one knows if or when this song is to be released, is it an actual single, is there an album to follow, what the song is even called, single cover art etc. There has been nothing but speculation and all from one 30 second clip of Mariah singing.

Yes May, I always loved that about her voice too. I adored the first time I heard her use it in Someday. Emotions is my absolute favorite MC album. Back then even her breathing between vocals sounded amazing. I just feel like it was much richer then and now whatever is happening for the first time it is sounding off.

Mariah's last try (71,763)
by Boy from The Netherlands
| |
|
|
I was listening to Donnell Jones' "Where I Wanna Be" after I listened to Mariah's snippet from her new single. I was just in the mood. While streaming I came across We Belong Together in the suggestion bar. And I thought F it just listen for the "nostalgia". I must note that I haven't saw the WBT video in years. While I was watching the video (partly) my brains was spontainly connecting stuff. I know I know there are a lot of theories going on here. But the parts that got my attention were just so "coinciding" with Mariah's curent life. I feel like that Mariah and her "team" are literally recreating the concept of her WBT video. The whole james and the dancer thing. How they like showcased that Mariah chose a younger boy (a.k.a true love) in contrast to her older fiancé (who has financial security but isn't the true love for her). How she just dramatically sings in the booth and removes her wedding ring. Mariah and her team are orchestrating this whole comeback thing for a while now I guess. The whole break up "anthem" thing started with You're Mine (Eternal) and this supposedly new single is kind of the third attempt to recreate the WBT magic. They kind of even have the familiar construction as WBT with the Donnell Jones' "Where I Wanna Be" reference aka the Babyface reference in WBT. The new years eve disaster aka the Glitter disaster. So they can capitalize on that. I must say as devoted I was and somehow still am because I am commenting on here for the first time in years. Her music is just simply said really really wack. Even the way how she sings in the snippet like wow really? It's so dated and little girlish. I am impressed of how she lowered her standard as a musician. For me her musical downfall really began around E=MC2 with that I'm that chick' esque songs. Like come on... You are the woman who wrote Slipping Away, Music Box, impeccable remixes and other really high quality shizz. As I am writing I will give her new "song" a change. After that I am just dropping the mic with her. I know as a reader it feels like as I am abandoning her but I must accept that Mariah is a human being with her own taste and opinion and maybe she finally is becoming the person that she is showcasing to the general public. And beacuse I have no right to change nor judge her I must let her be and move on with my life. And finally stop stressing over why such a musically gifted person would destory her reputation like this.

I too thought that her having the twins would inspire her to make good music, but it didn't. She's 46, but she's not acting like one. She's so out of touch with the real world that I don't see make really good music in the next years. I used to be crazy about her release new music, but now I'm like "so what?"

The Mariah Report (71,761)
by Malcolm from Asia

Why on earth I only listen to this podcast now, all of our thoughts on Mariah right now was like synced in on their latest podcast. Like how Mariah's World is total garbage, gagging on Mishka (they read a part of Mariah Smith review on NYmag where Mishka confronts Mariah about that butt photo and it said: "Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven, take this wretched child off of my tv screen and put her in a classroom. We also ask that you show us her worker's permit. Amen." I can't ), hating on Stella and thankful that she's not been around lately, and how Mariah's team don't have any idea what brand Mariah have and that they don't know how to appreciate the lambs. Check it out, it's hilariously on point and frank.

Fine, keep your secret outcomes to yourself 00Ribbon lol. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a season 2. I hope there's not but I have zero confidence in saying that there won't be.

Also, I feel this single has just been conjured up for MW, to deal with the James fiasco and because of the Label's push for music. I don't expect there to be any roll out or promotion or any appearances to support it. Label probably didn't even invest much in the video from the looks of it. It will be another Triumphant and not make the album cut.

You all need to pay more attention to the clues they dropped over the weeks, the obvious name of the song is "Fudge You, Pay Me (Inconvenience Fee Anthem)". This will be followed by the re-sung "Empower Women remix" and the "live laugh light remix". The actual word won't be fudge, it with be something that rhymes with luck but since Eric won't allow curse words so ya. Stella basicallly spelled it out for all of you in her photo caption. Thank me later.

So sad to say, but that Mariah was gone the minute she started believing her own hype. I really thought Mariah's demeanor would remain humble and relatable. Seeing Celine being so gracious, grounded, complimentary, and just not worrying about left and right angles, was refreshing. Same thing I get from Adele. Ariana's going down Mariah's path.

Celine Dion on The Voice (71,755)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |

While Mariah is struggling to catch up in anything, here is Celine, just chilling and enjoying her legendary status. I guess no one can beat a person who leaves everyone a good impression and relationship and not drown by fame. Just sad Mariah, you let this everything to happen, you must be secured and celebrated by now if you do things the other way around. It's like she eats her own words and do the things she said she won't do 5, 10, 20 years ago. Great attitude will forever win no matter what even if you are now relying on backing tracks and can't sing like you used to in your heyday. Sigh. Great job Celine.

The song on the finale (71,754)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
It's going to be just a preview. And it's probably going to be the exact same amount of preview that we've seen already. The reason they are cleverly doing this is to get people to watch the show so the ratings are up on the finale and they can justify another season. They are tricking us. Trust me, if you don't like the show just wait for the same 30 second preview after it airs. Don't fall for this ratings ploy.

It's what happens to most big pop stars on that level. MJ, Whitney Houston, etc. They start to loose touch of what made them who they were in the first place and I know everyone grows and changes but when they live in a bubble for so long the changes are weird and they affect the art. Madonna and Janet have seen their share of wacky periods but they've still always managed to keep their head on straight and their inner circle doesn't seem to dictate their lifestyle or burden their art. Mariah needs to get some real world experience. We know she's rich and a jet setter but that doesn't make good relating music. Otherwise she keeps rehashing songs from a time we could relate to her. I thought becoming a mother would change her in a way that Butterfly had, but it seemed to make her go the other way back into a Rainbow/Glitter time of sex appeal. She's 46 years old she should just make that one Rap album that's she's always wanted to make and get it out of her system. Get Travis Scott, YG, Nas, the Weeknd, and do it big. Because once she hits 50 I can't see anyone in the hip hop world taking her any kind of serious.

I actually always thought that her breathy/whispery voice was one of her signatures. She sang almost the entire Emotions album in that voice, obviously taking away the incredible gymnastics in the climax of some of her songs, then again she was on her unstoppable mode. I always enjoyed that of her voice and find it very appealing, it made songs like Bliss and UTS sound heavenly. What I'm tired of is that rush in the melody and fast pace of words. But soon we will be hearing it. I stil have hopes it's going to be nice, but digging in the 10 years old plus RnB trunk for a sound I have my doubts.

New song (71,747)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|
|
I don't want to judge the song this early. At least I like some parts of it based on the snippet but one thing's for sure, Mariah's career went from being messy to corny real quick. That removing of the engagement ring was so cringy and dramatically tasteless. Don't tell me that's the official music video, it's absurd. Invest on the visuals Mariah if can't pull off in the other aspects, that's key nowadays. What is happening?

New song (71,746)
by Mara from United States
| |

Well I am not sure what part of Mariah's voice we hear during the first snippet of the song, but it seems to be the only part of her voice she is most comfortable singing anymore. It's the part of her voice she uses when she improvises live at her shows or when she was on the behind the scenes WWHL and she sang on the spot. Whatever it is "technically" called I actually hate to say this as a Mariah fan since day one this saddens me but this part of her voice almost sounds unpleasant to listen to. I don't know what happened and as we fans often compare different eras of her voice. It is crazy that it is really sounding and again I hate to say this but unpleasant to the ears. I love Mariah and yes, I will always buy and support whatever she puts out since there will never be another that I can say had a song to comfort me in any aspect of my life. Therefore I will in return be there for her. It does lead me to be concerned though that years of drinking is really showing its effect on her vocal chords and her possible lack of sleep and any new or possibly old "bad habits" are affecting her as well. If Mariah wants to keep going as a singer I really think she needs to take care of her golden instrument a little better and it does require a certain level of discipline and possible lifestyle changes on Mariah's part and nobody else. The people around her however should also try to follow similar behavior if the singing side of things means anything to any of them anymore. After all, there is a tour coming up that does require some use of that instrument we hope at least.

Adele interview (71,745)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
Something Adele said in an interview when her last album came out is so true. She said that she refused to live the life of a popstar and remained out of the limelight and lived a normal life after 21's success because when you are disconnected from reality you just can't write songs that your listeners can relate to. We can't expect her to soar when the hippos and the monkeys and the rest of the travelling circus literally sitting on her head. Free Mariah.

Clearly what she meant was that the show does not reflect reality and is all scripted hence anybody calling it a reality show would be an idiot. That was how to decode her "it's not a reality show" comments.

MW finale plot twist? (71,742)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Is anyone else secretly waiting for some major final plot twist to this debacle? I have been saying for months, weeks, days now that there has got to be more than what they have so willingly projected for this reality show. People have thought oh, well these are skits, jokes etc. The show definitely rings false, but I'm not sure what the outcome will be. I have felt there is only one good outcome possible from this mess. Here is hoping. Here is also hoping that the single is tolerable if not great.
