Jimmy Kimmel Live (72,726)
by Malcolm from Asia

She's nervous as hell and it affects her stage presence. It's not that bad, it's just the song doesn't fit for a live performance like that. She should've worn jeans instead of ball gown, that outfit suits for the ballads. On to the next one.

Dahlin' we thought she'd never do a reality show, nor did we ever imagine she'd resort to nonsense cheap publicity stunt, but look where we're at now haha. Her going on Wendy would actually get a lot of attention. Wendy says what the GP basically thinks about Mariah but to this day she has always maintained that Mariah can out sing anyone and has always praised her voice and success. She just takes petty jabs at some of the mess in Mariah's life.

But has anyone here listened to Beck's 2015 Grammy winning album of the year? I still haven't. I thought it was cute that Adele "kanye'd" herself on Sunday in favor of Beyonce's masterpiece.

Grammys 1996 (72,720)

Alanis made a great record. I was mad before when I read that Mariah didn't win any Grammy for Daydream just because of how amazing it is. It definitely deserves the Album of the Year. But Alanis's Jagged Little Pill is an equally brilliant album. After I listened to it, I understood why Mariah didn't win the award. JLP also deserves that award. It's like 25 vs Lemonade, both albums deserve to win the award.

Mariah will likely continue to work. Bolstered by her Vegas stint, successful European tour, and the like. She won't stop just because new songs don't chart well. Radio still plays her classics. She'll blind side the public with a top 10 soon enough anyway.

Comparing Jagged Little Pill and Daydream is like comparing Lemonade and 25. Lemonade is Beyoncé's Jagged Little Pill and 25 is Adele's Daydream.

Mariah and Michael (72,717)
by T from USA

I just noticed that Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson were both 43 when they released their last studio album. Mariah had a song go to #15 from her album and Michael had a song go to #10. But unlike Mariah, I think Michael saw the writing on the wall and stopped actively perusing the music industry. He would show up here and there and tour sometimes but that was about it.

TJ is completely right. Daydream was a tremendous effort by Mariah but Jagged Little Pill was a huge, brilliant, ground breaking, intelligent record. Alanis' dead pan delivery, her direct and cutting lyrics, the production, her style, it all was a perfect fit for the general mood at the time. I played that album relentlessly when it arrived, and to this day it remains one of my favourites and most returned to records (Mariah excepted of course). Mariah wasn't "snubbed". A snub would be zero nominations. The amount of nominations she received that year was a direct acknowledgement and confirmation of her fantastic achievements and a reflection of how she was perceived in the industry at the time.

Whereas I agree JLP was a more iconic album for sure, it did not have any Hot 100 #1s, it had Alternative Chart #1s (3) on the Billboard US charts. I don't think she has scored a number 1 Hot 100 in the US to date.

Yes Daydream was so phenomenal. It even went number one in Germany (at that time we still had a lot of eurodance and boybands) lol. The radio stations were playing Fantasy, One Sweet Day and Always Be My Baby every hour. So I could easily record it on my mix-tape. And Mariah was the female superstar of 95-96. Just watch the Daydream tour in Europe, the people and fans were freaking out. And everywhere she was arriving. In France there's a video about MC walking through the crowd, it reminded me of Michael Jackson. Mariah sold out her only German concert so quick. I can't remember exactly, I guess in 2 hours it was sold out. Daydream caused a Mariah "hype" around the world. She was unstoppable. That she didn't win one Grammy at that time is a musical crime. Maybe the jury didn't like a young female singer who's looking like a princess and is married to an executive. I don't know. But it was definitely unfair.

I think the Wendy Show would be the best place to promote the single, as it's more of Mariah's demographic. I don't see a Kimmel performance doing much good.

Oh you're so wrong darling. Mariah should recreate all her old albums. Oh. That was my opinion, and you got yours. Just keep calm and let people have their own opinions. I didn't know that you decided the rules here. I'm not here to tell anyone that Daydream isn't a good album, because I simply love it, but Jagged Little Pill has sold more than 15 million copies in the US and more than 33 million world wide. It also had 3 number ones on the single charts. You might not remember it, but I guess you're not her biggest fan. I also believe that many people have forgotten Mariah's number ones from that time. I don't think you can say that Jagged Little Pill is not impressive and got even higher sales numbers than Mariah has for Daydream.

I assumed it had sold 10. As of 2003 it had sold 8,505,000 copies in the US ("Shania, Backstreet, Britney, Eminem and Janet top all time sellers").

Daydream is still relevant. Always Be My Baby is still being played on the radio in the US. When YM(E) was released I called my local radio station to request it and instead of playing Mariah's new song they played it instead. Also how many articles refer to Mariah as the Always Be My Baby singer? Check the Archives there are countless even after the release of WBT.

Those other two songs you mentioned were far from what you would refer to as a hit, they were lukewarm at best. "Ironic" carried that album, same as Adele's "Hello" carried 25. And compared to Daydream's singles, all those songs pale in comparison. And get your facts straight too. "Daydream" is a diamond album too. If I sound like the president of the United States of America - Donald Trump I'll take that as a compliment.

I didn't say that Mariah didn't deserve to win. She was beaten by an artist that also deserved to win at that award show. I don't remember the categories, but I remember I was sad at the time (but as time goes, these things doesn't take as much energy as it used to).

I bought both for 00.49. However for every discounted Mariah single there was a maxi single that was sold for $10.00 to $18.00. Which do you think fans bought? If you guessed both you'd be correct.

Daydream has sold ten million copies in the US. [Webmaster: There is a difference between certifications and copies sold. Where is your reference for this claim?]

As I said before, I think this new house rental is a business expense. She keeps hosting parties there and making videos and now photoshoots, she will be able to write it off on her tax returns. I bet Nobu, Nobu, Nobu is out now because James co-owns the restaurant.

Before you write complete nonsense ("Daydream" was bigger than "Jagged Little Pill" and "Jagged Little Pill" only had one hit song), check the facts first. That's not so hard to do. "Jagged Little Pill" sold 15 million copies in the USA and 33 million copies worldwide. "Daydream" sold 7 million copies in the USA and 25 million copies worldwide. "Jagged Little Pill" had three hit songs: "You Oughta Know", "Ironic" and "You Learn". Sometimes you sound like Trump with your "alternative facts".

Re: Should fans retire? (72,687) (72,702)

That's an interesting thought that Mariah commercially retired in 98 with The Ones. I'm always longing for new music and I think MC is a legend since the late 90ies. I only wish that the damage caused by Stella and the other "inner circle" stops. (And Mariah should stop allowing it.) I don't care if Mariah hasn't another one hit also it would be very nice. But I want her to be herself without the strange new marketing and ridiculous "docu-show". And if she needs a time-out I'll wait for her comeback.
