Re: Giving up on MC (70,912) (70,933) by Dennis from Miami, FL
I've become a fan after hearing My All on the radio in December of 1998. Although my parents were listening to Mariah Carey, Music Box and Daydream, I didn't like MC then. For me she was sounding too adult, not cool at all. Later I rediscovered her early records. For me the lowest point was the TRL disaster and Glitter era. After that I don't care about GP perception of Mariah. As early as Daydream era there were publications that Mariah "has a special assistant for chewed up gum". All eyes were on her during Grammys of 1996 and many were happy that she was shut out. Mariah wrote Looking [sic] those days. So I don't care what the general public thinks. I am mature enough not to be ashamed for what I like or don't like. Nobody is perfect. Neither me, nor MC. I always have goose bumps when I hear bridge of Languishing. My eyes are wet every time I listen to The Wind when I'm alone. And I've overcame a heartbreak with HATEU and I Only Wanted. With her music life is a bit brighter. She's like a football team I will continue to suport.

Re: Tommy Mottola (70,926) (70,932) by Dennis from Miami, FL
I can't deny that her sales declined starting with Butterfly. However Sony didn't promote Butterfly the same way as they promoted Daydream. Only two commercial singles were released - Honey and My All. Other were radio singles only. Mariah's fenomenal success was so great due to huge investments and dedication by the record company. When Mariah decided to transition to more urban sound the corporate heads were disappointed. It meant no more guaranteed income from Mariah's sales. In his book Tommy remembers how furious Mariah was when someone in Sony had called her a franchise. She was treated like a franchise. After she didn't want to comply they turned to other acts. George Michael didn't want to be a franchise as well and he lost his fight with Sony. I'm not blaming anyone. Commercial success and creative process pursue different goals. Without Tommy Mariah probably wouldn't be as successful. But I still believe she would be as successful as Mary J., or Alicia Keys, or Sting. If we look at the sales trajectories of many artists we will see the same - they start to decline at one point. Only few of them break that trend. Britney, Christina, Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Sade, Norah Jones, Braxton, even Beyonce didn't outsell their debut/solo records. Probably it's very hard to be reintroduced to take public again. Madonna did that with her Ray Of Light. But that wasn't just a record. There was a story about "supposed spiritual growth "attached to it. It turned out to be one more mask for her. Still the record is one of her best. So I really hope that our girl will have a private moment and will sort out all the mess, will set the priorities and will rise again. I can wait. Happy Orthodox Christmas everyone.

Thanks for reminding me of why I love Mariah. So many times I shake my head in shame of what her legacy has become, while I loved the look of the Vegas show it was kind of "flat" and a little predictable and boring. I think about "The wind", "All I ever wanted", "Lead the way". Then, I'm reminded of the beauty of her songs and lyrics. Yes, she has made a mess of her career, but when other divas are gone, played out, Mariah stays right there in the mix over 40 years old and mentioned in the same sentence as Beyonce, Gaga, Rihanna. The woman may not sell records no more but she is a force.

I can't believe (70,930) by darrian liu from taiwan
I still don't get how many lambs on IG support and love Stella so much. Couldn't they see what a pathetic excuse of a manager Stella is? Oops, sorry, I mean, of course we all love Stella. Hail Stella Bulochnikov, our Russian dictator, Empress of BlushTopia.

Re: Comeback (70,918) (70,929) by Tyler from USA
Mariah can so make a comeback. No shade but this message board represents the elder or season lamb. We've been coming to this site for years when fan sites were popular. The new lambs rely on social media for their Mimi news. This is a vent/complain forum for the older fans. Go on her Instagram or Facebook and you will see 10 to 18 year old standing up for her. She gained so many new fans during Mimi, E=MC2, Memiors and even the Idol/Beautiful period. I don't know any artist that can capture such a wide demographic. She has the gays, the blacks, whites, straights, young to the old. She just needs a hit that reaches her entire demographic.

Mariah - unwell (70,928) by Jimbob88 from UK
I think it's safe to say Mariah's battling big mental health and addiction issues. I haven't seen her this unwell since maybe Glitter. These issues are much more profound than her career. I wish she would take time out. Why does she need to work so hard? It must be insecurity as there can't be any economic need for it. Given her last, alleged, suicide attempt in 2001, we all know she is extremely vulnerable. Lose Stellar (fake sisterhood friendship used to exploit you for fame), go to Capri, sort out your addiction problems, come to terms with your divorce, diminished voice and age. People love you unconditionally. You do not need to be perfect. I genuinely believe Mariah, or her people, read these boards. The message will sink in. Expect changes in 2017.

Article: The deterioration of Mimi (70,927) by Pau from Mexico
Best article I've read in so much time. Has a lot of truth in it. Hope Mariah reads it. I do believe she has been in her confort zone for years that plus bad counseling and the people she is surrounded with. It looks like the 2014 Rockefeller event was just the beginning. I just hope with all my heart she sees this and starts making more strategic decisions, for example: hiring a different manager with music industry experience.

Re: Tommy Mottola (70,834) (70,926) by TJ from Norway
Have we followed the career of the same artist? You said "It's all spite and it pains him that Mariah left him and succeeded without any input from him whatsoever, and now is considered the industry's best - the standard." From my sight of view her success has never been the same after they split. Her sales are telling something opposite of what you try so hard to convince the rest of us. I'm also not sure about that she's considered the industry's best at this point of her career. Yes, she used to be in the top, but that's some years ago. Tommy made her the big successful artist she used to be, the singer that no one could beat. The story went another direction after 1997 (with one exception).

I love the family pics as well and I'm glad Mariah and Nick are trying to make things special for the kids. Ill never doubt their commitment to their children. I agree Mariah looks stunning. Sometimes less really is more.

Re: Confirmed: "Molly" is an actress (70,922) (70,923) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
For some reason this is pissing me off so much. Like I had no doubts before that this whole Molly thing is staged because well it was pretty obvious, but now to get this confirmation just pisses me off even more. MW is such a lost opportunity. Here people could really see the real Mariah, the artist, the performer, the writer, the singer, the mother, the human being. Instead we have this clueless haphazard mess that leads to nowhere. Tour documentary my behind, this is through and through a messy middle school level drama. Lord knows what Mariah was thinking green lighting this crap. This really also upsets me because I always like to think of Mariah as a forward thinking intelligent artist, and it's not wrong to think that either because in the past she has done a lot of stuff that later paved the way for others. The "Fantasy" remix, the "Glitter" soundtrack (since 80s music style is so in right now), and so many other things. So it makes me feel like this really can't be the same Mariah making these ridiculous business decisions, like what on earth? The same things that she has said she hates, she is seen doing out exactly those. This dumb ass "docu-series", buying weed openly, exposing too much, wearing that ring after her break up, staging a relationship with her back up dancer, being fine with getting labelled a "gold digger", a "match.com" advertisement, now she'll make a biopic, like girl where is the real Mariah and what have you done with her? With 3 movies that she is supposed to deliver this year, plus her tour with Lionel, a biopic, a possible second season of "Stella's World" and Christmas shows at Vegas, I wonder will Mariah even have time to do something that she says is her saving grace - making music? Really makes me sad and angry. End rant.

Re: Comeback (70,918) (70,921) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
To put this bluntly, don't expect a 2017 equivalent of TEOM era under Stella's guidance. In all honesty, I have no doubt Mariah can come up with several masterpieces, but back then she had a strong team to back her up. L.A. took it upon himself to make sure Mariah got a big comeback, it would help both of them cement their status (now LA is almost MIA, and nowhere to be seen), Benny Medina made sure Mariah's image was top notch, by getting her in all the A-list events, presenting her as the music royalty that she is (now we have a manager who is making every effort to put Mariah in the level of cheap reality show stars, and no I am not talking about Kardashians, because even the Kardashians exude more class and more believable story lines). Her PR was on point. Her manager didn't cry wolf and go around giving more interviews than Mariah herself. She didn't have a 13 year old being the medium between her fans and herself. She wasn't staging fake relationships. The public was rooting for her comeback because they saw her vulnerable side and how she too cracked under pressure which made people see her as a human being and relate to her. Nowadays we have a manager who keeps saying "she was the biggest star there", "she was doing them a favor" basically making her sound arrogant, that combined with the diva act which started as a joke but now has engulfed her has kinda turned people off. There is no doubt Mariah can have a huge comeback if she wants to but it won't be until Stella and her incompetent team of circus freaks are moved out.

Comeback (70,918) by Tameka walker from United states
I believe that if any one can have a comeback it's Mariah. Back in 2001 people had written her off and in 2005 she had one of the biggest comeback in music history. It is what Mariah said once, you just can't write off talent. Mariah has one of the best voices in recorded music history. She is a very prolific writer and singer. I say my money is on her having a comeback with the right material of course.

Cameras (70,917) by Mara from United States
Does anyone know if there were cameras following Mariah around on NYE? Didn't Stella mention in one of her interviews that they have it on camera that the earpiece wasn't working? I seriously hope this will not be a focus on a Mariah's World season 2 to get viewers. I'd imagine the coverage would draw people in to see this disaster play out behind the scenes. Just seemed strange that we saw photos of MC doing rehearsals this time when we never see her do any rehearsals, especially released pics, like they were ready for a counter argue. Even in the Ryan interview when he asks her if she is ready and she looks at him and says "Me?" and laughs. Then the fallout, Anthony being fired. I don't know. I think reading in to too much and this story never seeming to die down at almost a week now has gotten to me. Just curious if I was alone on that or if Stella did say she had it on camera the earpieces didn't work. Imagine if Mariah did perform at the Trump inauguration. There would be enough material to cover a whole season. Whoa. In all seriousness I really hope despite the pic we got of MC with NC and the kids that Mariah is alright. We have Stella doing all the talking and the only words from MC were from a print interview. I hope she is OK.

Re: Worried (70,909) (70,916) by Malcolm from Asia
Just fire Stella. I hope Shawn or Lee will help her to get rid of that woman, she's toxic, cheap, and opportunistic. I'm glad more and more articles are writing her off because this means people can also realize that she's incapable for her job. Mariah probably earned a lot of money under her management but it's not worth it and deserving for Mariah's caliber, reputation and credibility.

Latest family picture (70,915) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
The latest Carey/Cannon family picture is absolutely beautiful, these pictures always warm my heart. Even though MC and NC could not work as a couple I am glad they can work well as co-parents. On another note, MC's more natural understated look is stunning I would like more of these moments opposed to the over the top diva glam. Underneath all the extra divaness I believe MC is a beautiful loving soul and a great mother.

Tommy has a right to express an opinion, it's called the freedom of expression, so yes, he does have the right do make a point, as set out in the US constitution. Moreover, whether you like it or not, without Tommy we would never have had the version of Mariah we, and the rest of the world, fell in love with. It's safe to say that Mariah's decisions since leaving Tommy have been less than Stella. (Get the joke? Lol.) Mariah should be entering a phase of her career where she can do a Barbra Sreisand and release an album with no promotion and get to number one. Barbra is a prestiege act and acts as such. Meanwhile, Mariah is running around like a reality TV project. It's sad. Tommy may have been a bastard personally, but to deny him a right to speak when we have never heard his side of the story (in real terms), is simply ignorant. He earned his right when he pummelled serious cash into Mariah Carey and created a prestige brand that is now being destroyed. He has never said a bad word about Mariah publicly. If he is commenting on this, you can rest assured that things are very serious.

Stella's MW crimes (70,913) by RibbonB from USA
I said after the first episode of MW that Stella made multiple stupid mistakes and also Mariah for going along with it. But I can see the sexual harassment angle playing out what with the firing of Anthony. He gets the blame for the NYE show fiasco, while "Boynaka" gets a pass because he is in a "thing" with the boss. That story line should have never seen the light of day. Stellar should have squashed any personal contact with a thirsty employee and M. Instead, that was highlighted and teased about it all summer. I guess Sunday people will see if they take it there, or derail it. The whole interlude has been simply dumb though. Hmmm. I hope M. does not sign on for a season two of MW. Let Mariah's gang have a show of their own without her presence and let them flop all on their own.

Giving up on MC (70,912) by Leito from USA
I've been a fan, ever since I first heard VOL on the radio (1990). The first album (cassette tape) I've ever purchased: "Mariah Carey" (1990). My first concert, "Music Box Tour" in Miami (1993). Every time she released an album/single from 1990-1995, I'd catch 2 busses in get to the nearest music store. Needless to say, I've been a hardcore fan since the beginning. I remembered the first time "fans" started abandoning her. In 1997, she released the "Butterfly" album. The album had more of an urban/hip-hop sound. She released "Honey" (Bad Boy remix), "Breakdown" ft Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and "Babydoll". At that time, people were saying, "MC went too urban. She's trying to be black now." However, I loved her evolution and stuck by her side. Later on, in 2001, we had the "Glitter" fiasco. Again, she had a considerably huge loss in her fan base. Although I enjoyed the movie, it was "messy" and so was her behavior. The album was a risk. However, I believe she was ahead of the times, bringing back the 80's sound. Yet again, I stuck by her side (as a true Lamb should). Then, there was the NBC's Rockefeller Center performance (2014). One of many "lackluster" performances, but the most publicized. MC was slammed and dragged through the mud. As disappointed as I was, I still made tons of excuses and defended her to no end. Finally, moving forward to 2016's NYE performance. Cringe-worthy, to say the least. In the middle of my family's NYE celebration, I called everyone and gathered around the TV. From my 72-year old mom, to 9-year old niece. They all are very aware, I'm a die-hard fan. That night, I was beyond horrified. I found myself saying, "I can't, anymore." I felt defeated and threw in the towel. The next day, I reminded myself all of what MC meant to me. She's been part of most my life (27-years). Her songs have been a light, shining in my darkest moments. I mean, "The Wind" and "One Sweet Day" played at my dad's memorial service. I heard "Through the Rain" for the first time right after I was literally stuck in the pouring rain and having an emotional breakdown. Too many "moments" to list. MC has been there through my good and bad times. There is only one way, I can ever repay her back. Sticking by MC, as she goes through all of her good and bad. Always and forever, Eliel from Fort Lauderdale, FL USA.

Re: Mariah Carey's legacy in critical condition (70,884) (70,910) by Terna from Nigeria
So what you're saying is Mariah's legacy is in critical condition as you put it as a result of one bad performance she had, which was out of her control, on a show she has performed before and slayed. You guys are reaching now at this point. Her legacy is her talent, achievements, the standards and records she set and broke, her body of work which is in my opinion something near sacred, Mariah easily (all caps) has the best body of work by any artist point blank period. And that is something that would always speak for her, always. And no botched NYE performance, smear campaign, nor even time itself can change that.

Nick's new IG pic (70,908) by Lila from United States
Nick posted a new picture of him, Mariah, the twins, and Beth. It's adorable as always. Mariah looks amazing. She looks natural, she's wearing her natural hair, her face looks great, no awkward or forced posing or facial expressions. Even if she's more glammed up she usually tends to look more natural in the family pics IMO. She should dedicate some of that to her own IG and I wouldn't be against having someone hired solely for snapping and uploading pictures to IG.

The deterioration of MiMi (70,907) by Jeff from USA
As painful as this article is to read, it is 100% spot on. I am reminded of when Whitney Houston made a promise to Clive Davis that she would "get her voice back" after years of abuse. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to do so. I pray that MC can. She has way too much talent and skill to just fade into mediocrity. We're with you, MiMi.
