The comeback(s) and the preoccupation with Mimi (71,256)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
So, as one of the perceived negative ones on here, I wanted to wait for everything to die down before I offered another dissertation. I think MC still has a comeback after this. See I thought her voice was shot after the painfully dreadful and/or mediocre 98 performances and the lipsyncing performances of 99-00. But she surprised me with the Glitter performances. Once again I thought her voice was shot after the performances throughout Charmbracelet, TEOM, E=MC2 and MOAIA eras where she was singing verses and lipsyncing the dramatic climaxes. But she surprised me with the Jimmy Fallon impromptu performance. So I think something else to shut me up will happen. I also think if she came back from Glitter, she can came back from this. Today I was listening to the Daydream album and somewhere, in the middle of When I Saw You, I thought, yeah I can forgive this woman almost anything. I dare some of you go back and listen to the back catalogue. It almost makes up for Stella, earpiece excuses, Mariah's World, lip syncing, Tanaka and boobies.

I know why. I thought it was the dumbest reason ever too. It's because everyone and their brother released a song with the same name. Shakira had a song called The One that was out, so did the Backstreet Boys, Nickelback, Mandy Moore, and there were 2 others. If the song is hot it should be given its shot, what's the big deal if other songs have the same title? Best song wins.

Andrew's opinions is now representing society's opinion? I'm "proper" scared. "Bloody hell." Also you can take that finger you are holding up and shove it in it's rightful place, your nose dahlin', your nose. Oh come on now Andrew, the number of times you have asked me to put my picture up, people will say you're in love. And like Edward has so kindly explained to you before, I have had it as my display picture more than once. Can't help it if your short term memory keeps forgetting or you pretend to forget just like you always "forget" whether I am a girl or guy even though I told you and many others told you the same thing. And nope if Ed Sheeran would have said something that made sense without making assumptions, I wouldn't shut his opinion down either. You know better than to accuse me of always thinking Mariah is right, because you have been here long enough so see I always criticize her when she's wrong. But then again when do you ever make sense right?

Haha. I'm holding a different finger up now. Guess which one? Once again, you read what you want to read, that which gives you an opportunity to respond. I'm not hurt Mel B is being attacked, society is hurt by your petulance. She is simply not the most irrelevant of the Spice Girls. It's not factual. The only more high-profile Spice Girl, that there, potentially, currently is, is Victoria Beckham. If Ed Sheeran had said that he thought Mariah's performance was awful, I have no doubt that you would have labelled him rubbish and awful and a ginger, despite the fact he is currently No.1 and No.2 in the UK. It's really immature. I'm not hurt by your attack on a Spice Girl, society is hurt by your spouting rubbish. I'm also quite careful with how I word things so if I put opinions forward as fact please relate which ones. But make no mistake: facts are facts because they are facts, not matters of opinion because you decide you don't like them and want to frame the conversation in your own fantastically warped view of the world. Put your picture up, "Mimi L.", seeing as pictures are fair game to you lol. Come back to me when you put your picture, your name and your location up and stand behind the things you say. Because all you are at the moment is a pathetic, crazy fan-girl who hides on the internet and can't face the harsh realities of the real world. Try it. Spice up your life.

I very much know what you mean about Mariah being in her head and paying attention to what she sounds like. This is probably the most concentrated that I have seen Mariah during a performance. It is a shame to me that more recently, she cares more about how her hair is falling over her shoulders as opposed to how she sounds. I hope Mariah comes back with a string of smaller, more intimate performances like this where she is clearly in control and refuses any offers to do Times Square, Superbowl etc etc.

Well, most Infinity uses pre-record in that instance. She doesn't sing along with a substantial portion of it, either, i.e., the technically more difficult parts. Thus, I'm not sure what your point is.

Justin Timberlakes executives did not want to release the duet. At the time, they thought it might tarnish his "cool" reputation and image. Big mistake as her next album TEOM was a huge hit.

I have no idea why they never released The One and went with Boy, but I was beyond pissed when they switched. I like Boy, but it was never single worthy. The One's remix (even though it doesn't sound like Mariah on the remix) alone kills Boy and its ten thousand remixes. If they just had to switch there were better songs on the album that they could have used. Don't know if they were trying to take advantage of how popular Cam'ron and his original Boy song was at that time, but it was a sucky move. Lol.

I think IDJ thought they could capitalize on the success of the original which didn't happen. They were filming the video when the decision was made which shows how last minute the decision was. I wish someone would ask Mariah about it. She's quoted and sung the I'm scared and I'm nervous part several times which means she knows it's a fan favorite.

Andrew is butt hurt that Mel B is being called irrelevant, so of course he has to come here to pour more dump on Mariah. Why so pressed dahlin'? And are you really going to compare her lip syncing whistles at a television studio set on Graham Norton to my suggestion that she "possibly" would whistle over them for "more impact" at a huge place like Times Square? Sir have you been to Times Square and seen how noisy it is? It's not far fetched to assume that she would whistle over them for more impact. Plus what I said was a "suggestion", I don't pretend to pass my opinions as facts like you do. What is your main problem really? There is no doubt she was going to sing the rest of the song completely live because the lead vocals were missing completely, so why are you suddenly attacking her for having the whistles present? As for Mel B, I won't even bother to argue with you on that, she is the most irrelevant Spice Girl and now you can go play with your Spice Girl dolls since you are so upset. Here's to more abusive and hateful messages in 2017 from Andrew, but hey, we love everybody even when they are adults sticking fingers into their noses.

I came across this YouTube video last night and it's one of my favorite televised performances. I know a lot of people don't care for Infinity, but I like it. She does seem to sing this entire song live (whistles and all), but I guess I'll let Andrew be the judge of that.

The One (71,241)

As a lot people have been talking about The One in here recently. I wondered whether anyone knew the reasons The One was dropped as the second single from Charmbracelet in favour of (the awful) Boy I Need You. Always thought it strange that they were filming a music video and half way through they changed their minds. Anyone know reasons why?

Mel B (71,240)
by Andrew from UK

Mariah does not sing over pre-recorded high notes, she just lips them. The suggestion is so [censored] desperate and patently absurd anyone who suggests it has sunk to new depths. Watch "Boy (I Need You)" on Graham Norton's show. Does she sing over them or cringe and try to hide her face when she realises she forgot to move her mouth? Also, does it have to be questioned that Mariah part sings/part lips? This is what she has now been found out for by everyone. Everywhere. It cannot be denied. She has been doing it since 1999, for sure. In fact, since Glitter, you'd be hard pressed to find any song that Mariah has sung through all the way live on television, at least. Anything remotely difficult is lipped. Case in point: WBT. Never the last chorus. Not once. Never. Since it was released. Not once. She smacks a little of a fraudster. I think everything would be forgiven if the songs from the studio were just once - just once - produced live. I think then everyone would turn their eyes away and go home to sleep. So pathetic children may start throwing their Spice Girl dolls out of the pram, but Mel B has a point (I think being a judge on America's Got Talent is a pretty high profile and relevant gig, incidentally): is there any voice still there? Because, and I'm sorry, there is absolutely almost no evidence to the contrary to be found in the last decade. It comes in extremely small bursts in an incredibly restricted range. And that's that.

So I hear that Mariah is in London right now. Wonder what she is doing. Hoping perhaps she will chat with her old buddy Jasmine. But all of her old friends have generally been silent since Mariah took up with Stellar. I guess we will find out though eventually.

So true, Deedra. If I had to live my life if front of the media, I'd be having "splashes" too. I can count on my fingers and toes all the complaints I have about the current status of Mariah's career, team, etc, but the truth is, none or is truly know what goes on behind closed doors or the reason(s) MC acts as she does.

Song streams shot up after failed performance (71,237)

I agree Mariah's career is far from over but she needs to clean house and I'm sure she's got a confidentialality clause in her contract with Stella and her family members unless she doesn't which is how Stella was able to get her to agree to do a reality series.

The NYE debacle would be a fitting finale for MW though and please let this be the first and last season. Lol. But Ed Sheeran or James Bay could be great song collaborators with Mariah. Both are young, good lyricists and musicians. I still say Brittany Howard would be a great collaborator with M. as well. I like the collaboration she has out with John Legend. Brittany really is the truth.

ZSM and remembering MC as an artist (71,232)
by ZachSingsMariah from USA

Hey lambs, for those new to the lambily or those who may have missed it, last April I did a giant tribute concert to Mariah featuring some of her big hits (One Sweet Day, TMB) as well as my personal favorites (including obscure fan faves like Outside, YDKWTD, Breakdown). In this time of fear, when press so often proves in vain for Mariah, I thought it would be fitting to share the link to the show performances once more. Now more than ever, I think we as fans have to remind ourselves why we love this woman and her art. "Zach Sings Mariah" is a reflection of how deeply I relate to the experiences and the narratives of Mariah's life and music. Also, I would really appreciate your support as I move forward as a musician, songwriter, artist in my own right, knowing Mariah has been and will continue to be my greatest inspiration. I have been an avid reader of and contributor to this board since I was 10 years old and I thank you all (especially Eric the webmaster) for continuing this wonderful resource for Mariah fans. Love ya much.

Case and point. Love Ed. Who knows, Mariah may re-evaluate some things. Like Licia mentioned it's kind of a vicious cycle, the public has a certain perception of a stuck up diva, so Mariah expects the negitave responses and then feels super defensive. (Take recent Ryan Seacrest interview for example.) You can't expect people to drop the term reality show, so the diva thing is perpetuated the more she defends something.
