Re: James Corden (63,188) (63,219) by B from USA
Randy, I disagree. Carpool Karokee is a skit, it's supposed to be fun. If she had sang they would say she was showing off or complain that her voice doesn't sound like it used to. I love Patti but she isn't the greatest singer ever. She's one of the greatest but isn't the greatest. I hope someday Mariah can give a live performance that is up to your expectations/standards.

TGIFY was a highlight for me. I love how she rearranged the song.

It's so nice to see the shout outs for Selena. Thanks Enwar, RJJ112 and Licia. I have always had a very intense love for music at around 12, started seriously building a music collection Mariah and Selena are the two I have collected very seriously from cd singled to video footage and other rare gems. There will never be another artist like Selena. She had the chops. If you've ever seen concert footage she's just an incredible live performer, a very sweet, humble, genuine person, who worked her butt off, loved her family and loved life. There are two live albums. "Selena Live" which came out in 1993 and was a free concert for the fans in her home town. She and her band won a Grammy for that album, but there's actually more of that concert that isn't on the record. There's also a live CD/DVD of her last concert in Houston February 26, 1995. Amor Prohibido is her most successful album before she passed. Dreaming Of You is just awesome, her crossover into English market was inevitable. But for me her music is timeless. There are 3 albums her family worked with her label to release. "Selena Anthology" which has many cool different arrangements of her songs and some early vocal performances. The cumbia and mariachi versions on Anthology are awesome. "Enamorada De Ti" is really cool because they took her original vocals and recorded new music underneath and paired her with current arrests (2012) for duets and completely new sound keeping the music fresh as ever. "La Leyenda" came out in 2010 and to me is a great set that spans her entire career giving you a mix of all her Spanish, live performances and her English music.

Re: Why "One Sweet Day" is not a timeless classic? (63,199) (63,215) by B from USA
One Sweet Day is a classic. It is played at funerals and has helped a lot of people deal with the death of a loved one. Just because some teenagers don't know the song doesn't mean it isn't a classic.

This may be why. If MC was disappointed by Diana's reaction then she should also take note about what she herself says about and how she treats the ones coming up now.

RJj112, thanks for sharing how you came to love Nariah. I love hearing those kinds of stories. I agree, it is ISV's legendary single. I first heard MC on the radio. They played Vision Of Love and Love Takes Time back to back and I asked my babysitter to take me to the music store so I could buy the tape with my allowance lol.

Re: Essence Festival (63,206) (63,212) by darrian liu from taiwan
Great list. My list would look something like this:
1) Make It Happen (he always has strong performances in that song)
2) Heartbreaker
3) Shake It Off
4) We Belong Together (but maybe the remix instead of the usual, but the original would work just fine)
5) Vision of Love
6) Fantasy
7) Maybe a medley of hits just like what she did in American Idol or the New Year's Eve.

Re: James Corden (63,188) / Randy / Mariah karaoke (63,211) by Billy from Greece
Randy, while I remember that I used to agree with several of your posts and opinions in the past, your constant nagging about Mariah in the past several months has really become grating. Not only this, but your continuous comparisons between Mariah and other divas who have obviously shown Mariah respect and love is also at this point misplaced. Mariah has never been the spontaneous singer who would just burst into blasting out big notes in contexts other than her concerts. She is constantly musical no doubt, from the way she talks to her phrasing and ingenious melodies on the spot, but she has also always been very "economical" of her instrument when it comes to singing on the spot. That's why it's very unlikely that you'll hear her belting or singing her heart out in a carpool karaoke the way Jennifer Hudson or Adele did, because her style and personality would never go along with that. Mariah has been literally way more elusive than that, which is both good and bad, but is also part of her allure. As much as you rightly hail those other great divas, despite her shortcomings and mistakes, make no doubt that Mariah belongs in the same pantheon. I understand that you want her to just go all out there and be a singer's singer in the old fashioned way and just perform uninhibitedly on the spot. But in your haze of comparing her to other greats, you really miss the point. Sure, I also have felt that Mariah has so much more potential both with her instrument and image than what she has delivered at times, but a closer look shows that the woman has really been unstoppable for 26 years. I also wish I knew what goes on in her throat but if Mariah feels like she doesn't want to belt out her songs in a car, then I trust her. Clearly, she has always struggled with stage/TV fright, even almost 30 years into the business, and yes, she may be unnecessarily insecure about her instrument. But you neglect to acknowledge the fact that oftentimes it also comes down to anatomy and not healthy or unhealthy habits. Patti Labelle was blessed with a huge and durable voice. Does that alone make her the greatest vocalist ever? Doubtful. Mariah is still a force to be reckoned. I've never seen another diva been so creative with her instrument. I'm also sure that there is a very specific mentality behind Mariah not "giving away" her voice in moments like the carpool karaoke (maybe something that Tommy coached her about back in the day?). As much as she can tour around TV shows and do interviews, at the same time she treats her singing as not something to be dispensed easily. Not to say that people should only pay to be granted that reward, but she just is not that type of performer. You saw how well she worked in a setting like the Jimmy Fallon fan surprise a couple of years ago. That's much closer to her idiosyncrasy. For goodness sake though, don't put her down any more. She is a phenomenal musician, who has issues with being loose on stage or on TV. Does that diminish her artistry or status? Hell no.

The best way to do this is probably google image search. If you do it from a computer you can refine your search. If you click "large" under the size menu they are generally all hi-res. I hope this helps.

"Around the World" vocals (63,208) by Billy from Greece
As Vevo has been uploading basically the whole Around The World dvd this past month, I noticed once more that it is probably the only commercially official recording of Mariah where the vocals are most likely not dubbed or polished in after production (like in the Proctor theater performance or 1995 MSG or Adventures Of Mimi). Of course I love that. She had a very specific sound on the Butterfly tour that's unlike anything she sounded before or after, and I'm happy that we have at least some clips that document what she really sounded like then. I love the "Dreamlover" performance a lot in particular.

Re: James Corden (63,188) (63,207) by darrian liu from taiwan
Now that she's in a much better vocal state, she should do a part 2 of Carpool Karaoke. Maybe when she releases her new stuff as it's going to be a really good promo and exposure for her new song. Plus, that Carpool Karaoke was a missed opportunity tbh. She could have regained public's trust in her voice. A part 2 has to happen.

Essence Festival (63,206) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So the Essence Festival is coming up, and I heard there are about 500,000 attendees. That's huge. This is a huge opportunity to finally get her current voice and confidence be shown on a much larger scale than just the lambs and casual fans. I hope she chooses her set list wisely. Throw in some surprises. I don't know how much time each performer gets, or how many songs she can fit in, but I'd like for her to perform there (Stella please take note):
1) Heartbreaker
2) So Lonely or One And Only with Twista (Both the songs are fire and so amazing and underrated. Why none of these were released as singles is beyond me.)
3) #Beautiful remix with Miguel and Young Jeezy
4) I'm That Chick or Migrate
5) Love Takes Time
6) Make It Happen/Anytime You Need A Friend (or a mash-up of the two)
7) My All or Always Be My Baby
8) We Belong Together
9) Shake It Off
10) Side Effects
She can open with the "Fantasy" remix featuring O.D.B., by open I mean arrive on stage grooving to "New York In the house" only O.D.B's first rap or add her first verse. Or she can switch it up and enter with the "Loverboy MJ Cole Remix Radio Edit" and keep it from "Hey MC where your Loverboy at" to the very first "Loverboy chorus intro" at the very beginning of the song. These would get the audience pumped. I'd like to here what other set lists you all would prefer.

Random Mariah mentions (63,204) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I am seeing a lot of random Mariah mentions on my Facebook news feed from various pages (magazines and all, not fan pages) that I've liked, like Marie Claire, Elle Magazine, Vogue, Billboard and the likes. The posts that the magazines share usually comes with a caption and in majority of them I see only Mariah's name is mentioned like "throwback high school portrait of celebrities - you won't believe which one is Mariah Carey". Then the "10 times celebrities lost their sh*t - remember the time Anne Hathaway lost it when she saw Mariah". So even though many other celebs are mentioned in the articles, they are only mentioning Mariah in the captions, which is cool. Any exposure is good exposure. Billboard seems to be showing her a lot of love too, with several articles about the different aspects of Mariah's life, her achievements, her milestones and all. If her team is behind this, I'm happy with it.

Re: James Corden (63,200) (63,203) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
She should definitely do "Emotions" and possibly hit the whistles too since judging by her performances, her whistles are still effortless and powerful. That's one (out of many) of the parts of her voice that absolutely mesmerizes people. She should throw in some well known songs too and maybe do a mini cover of some recent popular song since that's what some of the others do in Carpool Karaoke. When Mariah did the skit, even though she didn't sing much, it was the highest viewed on the channel, that's until Bieber did his. But imagine Mariah with her current confidence and fierceness. She would go viral.

Hey there. Yes Vegas was worth it despite that disappointing aspect. I would go again, but I'd sit way closer. Wanna go to Essence? I would love to see Maxwell too. I was listening to Amor Prohibido and Dreaming Of You, the only cds of hers that I have. I love them both all the way through. I'm still waiting for lamb night. Just saying. Andersonville fest is going on this weekened if you wanna come to that.

Mya interview (63,201) by 123 from USA
I love this interview by Mya. They ask her great questions regarding her career, why she stopped dealing with major labels, her learning how to mix albums herself, the difference in the music industry from the 90's versus today. She is so eloquent and her responses are both knowledgeable and interesting. It would be great if she could be asked these types of questions instead of the same ones about being a rich successful celebrity. I miss her doing these types of interview where she can show how knowledgeable she is about the business and how she feels about the business today versus in the 90's.

Re: James Corden (63,188) (63,200) by 123 from USA
Hello Randy, I do understand what you are saying and it is all valid, but the timing of this carpool karaoke at that point in her life wasn't right. Remember that this was a year ago where she was still in those years where she lost her passion for her career and regiment to care for her voice since 2008. Had she filmed that carpool today, for sure she would have sang. I don't remember the last time she has had this many live performances in the past six months and only having one really rough vocal night when she performed at the Unicef ball. From the opening night of this latest Vegas leg it sounds like she is going to continue to stay consistent vocally especially since she is planning on recording new material while she is there. I do agree with Andrew that she should go back on there and do the Emotions intro. Something to go viral.

Why "One Sweet Day" is not a timeless classic? (63,199) by Pau from Mexico
Hi guys. Well I just came across this video on YouTube: Do teens know 90's music? Uploaded in april 2015 and has 13+ million views. If you are not familiar with this channel, they have 10 teens identifying songs and artists from an specific decade. If you go to 4:45 you'll see when One Sweet Day starts and none of the 10 kids identify the song by the end of it. Only four of them identify Mariah even though they don't know the song or listen to her, but they recognized her voice. I know it is not a representative sample, but it does say something. I'm 26 and before I became a fan I've never heard OSD, which is not the case with other MC's songs. I think it is sad OSD didn't became a timeless classic when I believe it was a sure thing, especially considering it's the longest running number one song and it is so relatable. After such success, I wonder why MC or her team never saw the opportunity to make it an anthem, to be played in special ceremonies, homages, etc. Right now, OSD has the record, yes, but the new generations are totally unaware of its existence.

I disliked the original but I personally adore this version. The emotion, the "live" vocals and piano just seal it for me. Love it.

Re: James Corden (63,188) (63,194) by TRAVON AUSTIN from United States
No excuses here. She probably doesn't care and maybe doesn't want to do it everyone else's way. It's her songs that he demanded she impromptu. She writes and produces her own songs. What is the big deal with being a boss and doing things her way? Simple answer with common sense. She is not obligated to do it their way and anyone with a career, they control. Would be the same way after 27 years. If people want to request me to sing after 27 years, I will do it when I feel like it and I would do it my way. You can dice it up and slice it as much as you want. Mariah Carey is her own boss and she doesn't care. Could it be that simple? Yes. She is a human being. Shocking. Moving on.
