I am beyond excited for this new era. Mariah seems to be finally treated with respect by the company gamma. Type Dangerous is really good. I don't think she needs to be stretching the vocal cords on every song especially when no one in the music business is doing it.

This is awesome news. I just wonder, did L.A. Reid have anything to do with MC joining Barbra on a new Walter A. song? If he did, I know MC16 will have some Walter A. songs on it.

Have you guys seen this? Mariah is making major moves. Long article, I broke it down so you don't have to: - Mariah Carey is teaming up with Larry Jackson's indie music company, Gamma, instead of a big record label. - She sees this as a way to control her story and create music on her own terms. - L.A. Reid will executive-produce her new album through his company, Mega. - They've signed a multi-album deal aiming to make music history. - Mariah's goal is to get her 20th number-one hit to tie The Beatles' record and then go beyond that. - The partnership was announced in June during Black Music Month to highlight its importance. - Reid says this is a win-win, with both Mariah and Larry working to stay fresh and relevant in today's music scene.
Mariah really looked at a $400 million company and said, "Okay let's get festive"? She's retiring as the greatest of all time lambily. This is so exciting. #1 to infinity indeed.

I hope this shuts down people who think Mariah isn't chasing chart success anymore and is just making music for fun or for fans. Chart success is what has been driven into Mariah since she was a teen signed on to Sony. She doesn't know any different. She is rightfully proud of her chart accolades and I am happy to see her openly just say that she wants that 20th and 21st #1. I like the new vocal Mariah that isn't afraid to voice her mind.

I think it's the best single release in years. As Max already said, it is straight to the point, has no MC whistles and most importantly you can understand what she sings about (lyric video helps the rest). It is what you guys wanted for years. I think this is her strongest first single since ILT. It took me a couple of listens to find the vibe but now that I have I can't listen to anything else. The tune is absolutely addictive. I'm living for her confidence and sass. Plus I have a feeling this is a "reminder" single like ILT. There's something much bigger coming.

I enjoyed it. Is it my favorite? No but it's a grower. I love the witty lyrics throwing shade very SIO, TMB, Migrate and ILT vibes with the shade. It's a very new sound for her yet sounds classic Mariah. I love the effort being put into the era. Starting with the Easter eggs in the DFAU remix calendar, followed by the teasers and now a full fledged lyric video with visuals. A lot of radio is also playing her which is great that she has radio deals. She signed on to a new label. I hope they promote this single and album to the max. I don't care at this point about charting but I want her to give it a good shot by promoting and pushing herself.

Ok I ain't mad. I quite like it. Still processing but initial reaction was very very positive - unlike all the other singles she's released over the years. The lyric video helped me get more into it. I think it's her best lead single in a long ass while.
Mariah - get behind it and give it your all. I hope a proper video is coming soon. I feel like they haven't shot it yet. This is going to be the [It's like that] of [MC16]. The punchy re introduction to get the attention and then she'll knock us down with the WBT of this era.
It's not gold but hor the first time in a long time, not disappointed MC.

Can you handle this? I don't know (109,101)
by Lambi from USA

Totally, she could just have fun with the video. Reusing old clips is such a trend now. It'd be genius if she tied it all back to her past: "Motorcycle man had a yen for me" - that's the Japanese guy from Boy I Need You. "Computer boy toy" - same energy as the nerd from Touch My Body. "Construction guy moving pounds in custom" - clearly a nod to Wentworth Miller, the structural engineer from Prison Break.
It'd be funny, iconic, and super nostalgic, fans would eat it up.

The references in the song should all be nostalgic throwbacks in the music video. Motor cycle man. Hmm. That music video has been making rounds on social media lately. The computer guy. Who that be? Lol. Construction guy, not sure on that one though. Maybe I'm off but that's what they should do. Catchy song.

That's fair, it definitely has a harder edge than GTFO, and I think it's because Mariah's clearly flexing here - "certified diamonds like a song I wrote" is a wild line - but honestly, the song feels like something that was originally scrapped and is now being reworked, kind of like what she did with Save The Day. I heard hints of Thirsty, Standing O, and Inseparable, and the chorus feels more like a string of adlibs that eventually became the hook. It's not her strongest work, but I really like her attitude in it, very Obsessed energy. Still, imagine if A No No had this kind of hype behind it pre-release? It would have been game over for The Beatles.

This definitely hits harder than "GTFO" from Caution. I love the Eric B. and Rakim sample, and I love the sassy send ups of Tommy, Nick, and company. It's not quite on the level of "#Beautiful" with Miguel, but it definitely feels fresh and current. I haven't really listened to much current music recently, so I do not know where it fits in the current pop ecosystem.
I know we cannot focus on getting a hit, but I'd really love to see Mariah unseat The Beatles.

Ecstatic. Fresh, original, yet quintessential Matiah, who is her own genre.
I've always preferred her hiphop/rnb joints to her ballads, and she's leant into the genre on steroids. Amazing music that features her silky voice but with no need to wrap them around overly difficult melismas etc. I've been saying forever that she should ditch balladeering and utilise her vocals on stuff like this, and jazz, club tracks. Her lyricism is too good to be held back by the need to be belting all the time, especially when that style of singing gets increasingly hard the longer you do it.
Her main strengths, even in the era of stuff like My All and her incredible ballads, was never her voice, which sounds absolutely crazy because she was unsurpassed vocally, with only one real peer in Whitney. It not being her main strength is not to denigrate her voice at all. It's just that her lyric writing, and her production skills are even better. Her song construction, her melody-writing, her wit... these things are what make Mariah Mariah. In some ways her vocals being so good have been responsible for her continued underrating. People focus on the vocals and high notes and miss the intricacy of her construction.
You don't lose those skills, they improve. Hence the need for new music, despite her vocals having reached their peak a while back. She can still sing but perhaps doesn't feel like she needs to fall back on the voice as much any more so she can hit us with bops for the club, which are always the best songs on any of her albums.
The chorus on this track is a slice of sonic bliss. Her rapping is perfect. The references are there.
Based on this track, I'm anticipating yet another major renaissance for her, akin to Emancipation. She should with the strength of this, if kept up, be able to clock another couple of chart toppers. 20 has the perfect ring to it. And wouldn't she deserve it? Imagine what a beautiful narrative for someone's career that would make? The industry chooses who to focus on and blow up, just like it chooses who to ignore, or finish off when its decided their time's up. Well Mariah is proving her time aint up. The music industry should support this rebirth. Let Mariah bask in icon status like she literally deserves. Because these young guns thinking she only sings about Christmas need to know why she was one of the top musicians stretching over three (at least) generations. She is timeless. I pray the radio supports based purely on its quality. I don't fully understand how best to market music these days, but radio stations should be bussin this out every day.
Yes there will be a cohort of old fans complaining it aint Hero Two.
I could not be more dare I say it proud, and excited, and happy with this track. It had better be the launch for the fully deserved renaissance. She did it before, she can do it again, so long as the industry plays fair.

Where's the chorus? After the verse she just mumbles some words like "that's my type", "danger", "dangerous". I like the verse because it reminds me of Will Smith from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. But on a serious note, the song does not have a chorus.
