Re: Rihanna (61,805) (61,808) by Licia from USA
I'm not a Rihanna fan, but to cut her down like she has achieved nothing all to defend Mariah is childish.

Re: New music (61,806) (61,807) by Marissa from USA
The music business is no longer a meritocracy. It's a popularity contest, and right now Rihanna is more popular than Mariah, which is why a song like Work hit #1. It's not about quality melodies or lyrical content anymore, so Mariah's musical excellence doesn't guarantee that she will snag a #1 in today's musical climate. It's all about promotion which MC has been getting a C for effort in that category for years now. If she wanted to drop the ball with promotion during the invincible years (the 90s), then she could have gotten away with it, but she can't afford to be lazy and think that her music will skyrocket to the top of the charts. YDKWTD could have been a #1 if it was promoted more heavily. That song and Meteorite are smash hit wonders, but no one cares besides us.

New music (61,806) by Giovanni from USA
Mariah will more and likely release a new single sometime during the summer or later on this year. I really hope her next song is huge like "Hello", or better. If a song like "Work" can make it to number one Mariah has nothing to worry about. I remember when I first heard "Don't forget about us" and found out it went to number one. I was really happy.

Rihanna (61,805) by Giovanni from USA
Will not stand the test of time. She is not a singer or an artist that would inspire or influence anyone with actual talent. She isn't even good enough to be somebody's background singer. All she has is 14 mediocre number ones that nobody will remember in 40 years. If she does surpass Mariah's record it won't matter because Mariah actually wrote, produced, promoted and worked for her music, achievements and records.

Next musical step for Mariah (61,801) by QueenLambassador from Portugal
I'm not overly eager for the new album. Ok. I'm lying. I am excited and I want new music. But I don't want Mariah to deliver because we want to or because she feels pressured to do so. I'm not of those that demands a number 1 from her, so I want her music to always be true to her and to who she is, even if that doesn't translate in sales. MIAM is an example of that. How long you think we will need to wait?

It was a sweet sweet fantasy (61,800) by QueenLambassador from Portugal
Altough I wasn't able to attend Mariah's concerts because she didn't come anywhere near me I am so happy she got nothing but praise for the queen. Yes people can say she didn't sell out every venue, yes she was late (very late) almost every night, but no one can say she didn't deliver. She is 46 years old and still can deliver an amazing and entertaining show. I'm proud of her.

Matolla does go to the Met Gala. He goes with his wife. Isn't that where Nicki Minaj ran into him and took a pic with him and his wife with the caption, new American Idol panel?

Re: Met gala (61,797) (61,798) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Avoiding "enemies" is a silly reason not to attend. I mean she did attend the BBMAs with JLo. And she clearly doesn't consider Madonna an enemy since she has been praising her lately. Mottolla doesn't go to the Met gala. I don't think that's the reason.

Re: Met gala (61,785) (61,797) by CDC from CA
I remember reading somewhere years back that she was going to attend in 2008 with Andre Leon Talley, but cancelled at the last minute because of conflicts with her own surprise wedding a few days earlier. I know Mariah's home base is New York, but I think it's just a simple matter of her being out of town when it takes place. Or that too many enemies attend each year (Mottola, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, etc.) that maybe she'd like to avoid.

Re: Rihanna's desperate, really? (61,771) (61,794) by Malcolm from Asia
With all due respect, what I meant by "desperate" is she seems like pushing it hard but not thinking the quality of the music she releases. It's like she just wants to collect more #1's but not having music that will stand the test of time. I know that "records are meant to be broken" but I just felt that it's unfair for The Beatles and Mariah if she's playing that "I will collaborate with Drake or Calvin Harris just to have more #1s because I am relevant" card. But again, if this how the modern music industry works then it is what it is. I love her and even more by respecting Mariah, I just said what I think and felt personally in the situation. But if the time will come that she will surpass them, then good for her, I will just move on. It's not like I will come after her or whatever.

Yes, you are right and I had a blast because I hired a stretched a limo to take me and my friend to the concert and bring us back home. It was so funny because when we arrived at the venue some fans ran to us and started taking pictures, thinking that it was Mariah inside. When the driver opened my door and we jumped off, they realized that it was not Mariah. It was so funny and I had my moment.

She usually shares a picture or two for all of her fans to see them enjoying their birthday. That was my point.

The Met Gala is a fundraising gala held every year to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, in NYC. Each year they have a theme and the celebrities go all out with their fashion and the red carpet is one of the most talked about of the year.

Why are they always writing fake stories to bring this woman down? Get a life. They love talentless half naked women and big them up but a woman who still has it and has inspired everybody even [censored] and still has so much to offer they criticise her like they have nothing better to talk about.

What a beautiful photo of Mariah, so effortless and simple yet striking in every way. We salute you Mariah and what people don't realise is that she was a trend-setter and what everybody is busting out now Mariah did it twenty years ago. Please see her back in the days before any criticisms for example leather trousers to crop tops to gosh skinny jeans to form fitting dresses and flawless make-up and hair and yet she never brags about that.

Mariah brought the twins onstage in Durban and said it was their birthday the next day. She sang to them and gave them each a big bunch of balloons and asked the crowd to say happy birthday. The dancers were spinning them around. Monroe even did her "pose like mommy".

Met gala (61,785) by Jono from USA
Side topic. I noticed tonight is the Met Gala, and I had never really followed it before, but apparently it's a huge "prom night" so to speak for the biggest stars in entertainment. After doing some research, I found out that it's in NYC. And it seems as if Mariah Carey has never been. Any clue as to why? I would assume she's been invited before, just didn't have the time to go. It'd be baffling if she's never received an invite.

Johannesburg show (61,783) by Seth M from South Africa
I just returned from the Johannesburg show and I am still enamored by Mariah's talent. Her voice was unbelievably strong hitting those high notes. Watching her on videos does not do justice to her beauty because she is 10 times more beautiful in reality than what you see on tv. Nobody can tell me that Mariah has lost her voice as my friends and I witnessed how powerful her voice was today. We had front row tickets and we were so close to Mariah that I thought that I was dreaming. The set list was pretty much the same as Europe but instead of singing "Against All Odds", she gave a brilliant performance of " Fly Like A Bird". She brought her kids on stage for "Always Be My Baby" and they started to dance for almost the entire song. It did interupt her performance of the song here and there but the crowd did not mind as we thought that it was cute. She did "I'll Be There" with Trey and for the last part of the chorus, Michael Jackson appeared on the big screen (when he was a kid and with the Jackson 5) and sang the remainder of the song until the end. I was disappointed that I was not in time to get meet and greet tickets in December last year when they released them but I was happy that I had front row and was so close to her. I took lots of pictures too.
