Side Effects is my favorite song for E=MC2. I think it's one of her best songs. I rank it with Butterfly, The Roof and Breakdown.

Vegas run (58,895) by Lee TS from USA
Do you guys think that perhaps February would be her last run for the Vegas gig? She has yet to announce any future dates and it has always felt very temporary to me. Like, right after Vegas she's jetting off for European domination. And say if she releases a really good comeback single in late spring or early summer, she'll be busy prepping for a new album. And there's all these other projects she's busy working on. Plus, I think Caesar's happy that Celine is back.

I thought she said "I would've" instead of "I wouldn't", in reference to releasing Migrate.

I love the fact that Mariah has the record for most weeks at number one, but I don't see any problem if a good song dethrones her. That means she has to work hard for her career, as she did back in the 90's.

Mimi L, you're so spot on about "Side Effects". I can't say enough about that song. Actually, I think I talk about it a little too much, but it really is exceptional. So many great cuts on that album and, of course, they chose the wrong second single. Plus, all those promo spots she did on MTV for the album were amazing. Not to mention hilarious. Comedy is definitely her thing when she has good material. I still watch her and Snoop as Jack.

I think Justin's "Love Yourself" has already taken over Adele's "Hello" on the iTunes chart. So maybe it might dethrone Adele.

Mariah has given contradictory statements about Migrate though. In some interviews she has mentioned how she wanted it to be a single but the label wouldn't. But then in another interview she said something along the lines of "of course I wouldn't release Migrate as a single" when the interviewer said something about not liking the song so much. So it's not clear what happened with the single.

I will pick "Side Effects" that song is fire. Of course "Migrate" would probably shoot to #1, "I'm that Chick" would too. Lord knows I have written many posts blabbering over how those were huge missed opportunities, including most of E=MC2. But around that time a lot of songs were in the club banger genre but no one had a song like "Side Effects". It's such a personal song, and also it is like an anthem. I love it.

Re: Underrated songs with chart potentials (58,882) (58,887) by Tevin from USA
Mariah did talk about it twice, she said she wanted it to be (she even performed it quite a few times), but LA Reid and the record company said no and wanted to follow the uptempo then ballad formats that made TEOM a success. Only problem was Bye Bye was no We Belong Together, and stuff started tanking after that. Then Mariah got hitched and went MIA. As much as I love E=MC2 I hate it because that CD would have done better than TEOM if all the cards would have been done right. But hey if the CD was a huge success Mariah might not be doing Vegas residency now and I might not have heard her sing Someday live again.

Her songs don't make me cry (58,886) by Terna from Nigeria
What's with the emotional wreck of lambs in here bawling to just a few opening notes of her music? Mariah's songs don't make me cry, they uplift me even those which are seemingly sad songs so to speak. Whenever I'm in a bad mood or going through stuff I play her music. Something about her that helps you escape pain and takes you to a calm place. Not bawling and crying river.

Re: What Mariah song brings you to tears? (58,836) (58,885) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
Many songs of Mariah Carey's, mostly ballads, makes me get teary eyed and emotional but I became a fan of Mariah through her insecurities and heartache. Her triumps carry personal meaning for me. My mother who I never knew because of neglect made me cry with "Reflections (Care Enough)" and my deep insecurities made me cry the most with "Looking In". Mariah Carey is a part of who I am and it's hard to believe but it's true. She just didn't go deep with her songs, she went in my soul and made me a friend I could always count on with her music. That's why I am extremely protective of her because we connect on an emotional level. "Hero" makes me cry, especially when she sings it to a crying crowd because that song is like the topping on a cake: sweet, sensational, and pure happiness it brings.

For me, it's Mariah's Theme (Can't Take That Away). I also relate to Close My Eyes, Twister, and Petals. Of course, Bye Bye and One Sweet Day are the saddest. Especially, the acappela version.

Migrate. When "E=MC2" came out, I thought this song would be a huge club banger. T Pain was really hot at that time too. I have always wondered what happened with this song. It's almost like there is a conspiracy to keep MC from making any more #1 hits. It was the first song on the album, and in the past, the first song on MC's albums turned out to be huge. Still so confused about what happened with this song. Maybe MC one day will set the record straight on this song and others.

I agree with what you said about H.A.T.E.U. It had potential, especially JD's remix. I've always loved I'm That Chick. I think it should have been a single. Mariah's problem isn't the material, it's the way the material is presented. She needs classy yet sexy videos like The Roof.

Underrated songs with chart potentials (58,880) by JCS from United States
I have rediscovered and have renewed admiration for some of Mariah's songs as I listen to them. "Angels Cry" (solo version) has great lyrics and strong solid vocals. H.A.T.E.U. has a straight forwarded radio friendly pop sound. If they only had better music videos and promotions, I think these songs would have been big hits. I've also been enjoying "I'm That Chick" lately. Happy New Year everyone.

Has to be Vision Of Love. Helped me go through my parent's divorce and the aftermath. Made me believe everything would be fine again. Still listen to it everytime I'm sad or get depressed. It's the only song that ever made me cry, and that probably won't change.

I wanted apologize for going all Stan on you. Sometimes I forget he's in there when I come to MC on this board. I know it's meant to be a discussion and I should've asked what you meant before making assumptions and foaming at the mouth in my post. So much for staying above the fray. I should know better than to post things at 5 am with no sleep. That's why this one is at 4:15 am. On the bright side, rumor has it you were rolling in lols. Better than in the deep, eh? See what sleep deprivation does to me? They're not all gems. (There's a crucifixion brewing, I know it. And not the awful puns.) As far as the points you made: I totally understand what you and this_is_qhm were saying. I was just thinking that at the end of the day this is all music we love. It shouldn't be something people tear into one another over. I'm speaking to myself first. Cheers.

It'll be awesome if Mariah is asked to sing at this year's Oscars in memoriam tribute. Just saying.

I absolutely adore "The beautiful ones". I always felt there should have been a video. Mariah's rock voice sounds so fierce. She went in.

Outside. Oops forgot one, lol. I would also add Breakdown and Circles. I had recently broke up with my ex. I was at a store with my brother and his friend (the love of my life) when my ex walked in with someone new and like Mariah sang I turned my head. Saying to myself don't you let them see you cry and turned my head as the tears rolled down my eyes. I literally heard Mariah singing Circles. Her music is the soundtrack of/to my life.
