Re: A Christmas Melody (57,152) (57,153)

I thought it was Brett who was going to direct the movie for Hallmark and that's why RatPac was going to have a hand in it but it seems it's not like that neither, I'm truly confused as well. I'm amazingly happy that it is Mariah who is directing it though, because she is great at that. I hope she does appear in her own movie, even if it's for a little bit, maybe singing a festive song.

A Christmas Melody (57,152)

I am confused by the articles. Some are saying that she is starring in the movie as a music teacher, others are saying she will only direct it. I am also confused about how many Christmas movies she is involved in. There was supposed to be one with RatPac and then we heard about another with Hallmark.

That song is so beautiful. It was the only reason I bought Babyface's album back in the days and the only one I owned, not to say Mariah put a hand in that album as well so I was delighted, the whole album was really a charm. I also agree with all the ones who said Mariah should work again with Babyface, but as a duet rather than one or the other being in the background. Their voices go so well together. What a blast from the past. I too wonder where has he been as of late?

Thank you so much enwar for the kind words. Thank you Bill too. I have to agree that we sometimes have a delay when something like that happens suddenly. We process it differently. Music always helped me with whatever I needed to deal with. Just wanted to thank you guys again for the kind words.

Btw I prefer the original vs the JD remix, which is meh to me at best. I never ever thought of that song being about someone who's passed. I literally almost cried right now reading that, what is happening. Mara wow your post gave me chills big time. Makes sense to me, I think sometimes things like that have a delay before they hit. Like our minds know when to handle and fully process sad events or something. Anyway you can't control your thoughts. Hope you feel better soon. Gotta go listen to that song now.

I agree B. Melt Away is another favorite of mine. I love Everytime I Close My Eyes. I wish they could do a real duet too. He did some amazing songs with Toni Braxton recently and I would love if he worked with MC again.

Babyface's Every Time I Close My Eyes, with MC singing the background vocals, is an amazing song and he's an amazing songwriter. I want a proper duet. I don't know why LA Reid hasn't suggested she work with Face again.

Billy I always thought it was a love song about a missed opportunity when I was younger until I really listened to the lyrics. When she sings "Baby can you hear me wherever you may be tonight - are you near me - it clicked" that if she is asking if the person is near her he must have passed and she's talking about his spirit. Ok sorry for being so deep and sad. On another note I 100% agree with you that it must be so hard to go through the ups and downs of life as a celebrity status such as Mariah. She always puts that smile on, but what she is going through we have no idea. Your post was perfect and hit it all. They said she lost her mind, voice, attitude, marital problems, weight. She is a strong woman and is a fighter. She went through a very serious injury too and who knows if she has any health issues like the rest of us. Yet she has to always "be on" so to speak, and be in full make-up and have her outfits "on point" it gets tiring I'm sure. Thank you for your post about the human side of MC. I really puts it into perspective for all.

Mara, I have also found solace in Mariah's music. I think I read somewhere, years ago, that The Wind was inspired by the death of a friend. I believe it was a car accident. Does anyone else remember reading that?

Bill, that line especially hits. Also when she sings "somewhere I know you'll be with me - someday in another time". I am sorry about your sister in law. I'm sure she knew you loved her, she knows how you felt now.

I guess it makes sense that she hired Randy and JD during a very private time. These guys are her close friends whom she could trust as the separation/divorce was ongoing, while Randy/JD did some of the public interviews/appearances on her behalf. I don't think she wanted to be in the public eye at all, nor did she really want to travel great lengths to promote the album. It was unfair indeed when fans started attacking JD. I still think he could've handled it more professionally though. Didn't he call one of the lambs "stupid" on Twitter? That was way out of line. That type of behaviour could alienate the fans from the artist. He had never managed an artist of Mariah's calibre or fanbase so it's understandable to a degree, but not acceptable. In his latest interviews JD is respectful as ever towards Mariah, but something in his choice of words just doesn't sit well. I hope it's all water under the bridge for these two. I do want to see them working together again in the future, even if it's just 1 or 2 songs per album.

Mariah (57,138)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
I just wanted to say that as I go through life, experiencing situations that are often challenging, or filled with questions and often surrounded by instability, I keep thinking what it would be like for a person of Mariah's fame to handle whatever life poses you in the public eye. Considering that we have no idea what goes on in Mariah's life beyond what she herself (not the press) publicizes, I can't help but applaud her resilience and strength when she has had to face not just her own troubles but the "celebrity" aspect of her life as well. And that goes as far as back as 2001. The woman was thrown down, "abused" by the media, "disowned" by fans, and yet she kept on going. Behind that gorgeous smile and talkative playfulness, she has remained silent, discrete and low-key considering the over-the-top divadom that is attributed to her. People said she lost her voice, she kept on singing. People said she's lost her craft, and she kept on writing marvelous songs. People said she is fat, she kept on wearing whatever the hell she wanted. Have you ever thought how would you handle such a situation and if you could endure it? Sometimes I find it hard just to face another day and I don't even have to strike a pose in front of paparazzi. For all that has been said about Mariah, I remain an admirer of her ability to take control of her life, sometimes more successfully than other times, and keep on going. I need that inspiration every now and then too.

Janet (57,137)
by Billy from Greece

I'm so happy with Janet's new album. I do agree with the person that said that it sort of is what "The Elusive Chanteuse" was to Mariah, namely, true return to form that evokes the essence of their artistry, standing up there with their best work. Actually, during 2014-2015 all three icons (Mariah, Janet, Madonna) released albums that signaled a creative rejuvenation, which I find fascinating. It allows me to feel (a little bit) like it's the 1990s again, only less carefree. Actually, this decade's popular culture has been paying homage to the 1990s aesthetic quite profusely I would say. If only you could go back in time. "Now I'm stuck in the future missing you. "

"Never Forget You" (57,136)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
One of my first all-time favorites by Mariah, and one I played over and over again back in 1993 when hearing a mixtape my sisters had made with songs from "Music Box" and other songs from the early 1990s. It was after my adolescence though that I realized that NFY is not really a love song. The lyric that betrays its intent to me is "cause time wasn't on your side". A special, tender-intense song that I have also turned to in hard times. *sigh*

Sorry to hear your sad news Mara, I hope you're okay. I always thought Never Forget You was about somebody that died too. I always get affected by the line "I should have said I loved you, why didn't I just tell you". Fifteen years ago my sister-in-law died from cancer. I loved her dearly and never once told her. That line resonates with me so much because of that. It was a few months after her death, the song was playing and it just hit me. The line "you just vanished away" also hits me hard. It's so simple, but so true. Love to you all.

They play a lot of Mariah here. I heard Infinity (yes, Infinity) in a really famous bakery and in a huge supermarket. I also heard #Beautiful in a famous boutique. When it was Daydream's anniversary, the radio played Always Be My Baby and Fantasy like a few times a day. There was even an event celebrating the 25 years of Mariah when #1 To Infinity came out and featured artists singing Mariah's songs.

Never Forget You (57,133)
by Mara from United States

It's funny that this song has come up recently. Once again I have turned to the comfort of Mariah's music. An ex boyfriend of mine who I recently connected with over Facebook within the past year and a half, right when "You're Mine (Eternal)" came out, life ended much too soon due to suicide over the summer and while I went to his wake and was upset over his passing, I literally just started recently feeling his death in terms of crying and thinking about our time together and what could have been had we got back together. Mind you, I am married and happily so I have no idea why I am going through these emotions. But anyhow, our Mariah has the best songs to help. I was wondering if anyone knows of Never Forget You was written for a deceased lover. It sure fits for the situation. This along with The Wind has been very comforting and fitting. I know I heard The Wind was written for someone Mariah either dated or cared about around high school that had passed. Sorry for the somber post, I just wanted to ask my fellow MC family and turned to the best ones at the Archives for opinions. Just having a bad night and probably had too much wine. Not sure why this death has affected me months later.

"MC on the radio" (57,132)
by Ardis Logic from Earth

I have been hearing Mariah on the radio a lot more lately. At the grocery store they played "Always Be My Baby". Then, in the car a few hours later, I heard "It's Like That". Anyone else hearing MC on the radio? I love when that happens. I would really love to hear some new music soon. I hope things are in the works. Peace and love to all.

Performances during the MIAM era (57,131)
by Will from England

With regards to the performances, don't forget "Meteorite" (the delay was not her fault), her Jimmy Fallon/New Year's Eve performances with TAOLG, the Macy/AI/Hot Summer Jam/GMA/Hurricane Sandy concert/BET Awards (remix version) performances of #Beautiful on top of the two that were already listed. Two performances leading up to and during the MIAM era? Nope. Spread out overall, but she performed.

Both JD and Randy Jackson should not have been selected as managers. Not because they are not good enough, but because they are her close friends. A manager should be someone, like you put it "going to be on her ass everyday and nag her for not getting up, and going to work". I think neither Randy nor Jermaine would be able to do that to Mariah. I still feel bad how the lambs attacked JD to the point JD had to fight back and actually say something like "You guys should ask Mariah." Anyways what's gone is gone. I hope they are still friends even if they don't collaborate. There are very few genuine people left in Mariah's circle.

It's weird that they don't talk about Mariah at all. They mention JLo in every other episode. Madonna gets some screen time here and there but Mariah is hardly brought up. Thank God I was old enough to understand the success that was TEOM. That era was perfection. Yes, she did have more success before that in the 90s, but in 2005, Mariah came into her own. She was fierce, she was confident, she was everywhere. In the 90s she didn't have the fierceness and confidence. By 2005 she realized what a major star she is, and the success of TEOM added to that. It is definitely hard for a new lamb, especially now because Mariah has been having a low time since 2009 and 2014 is probably one of her worst years. It's especially sad that "I'm a Mariah fan" is usually met by "are you joking" or "okay... moving on". Not that it stops me from reminding people about her numerous accolades every chance I get. I need Mariah to come back one more time and just shut everyone up. No, the "she has nothing to prove" argument won't satisfy me. After the way she was dragged through the dirt these past few years, she needs to remind people that she is second to none. She is the ultimate songstress. Once she does that, everyone else will jump on the bandwagon.

Missed videos (57,128)

One thing that will probably forever irk me about MIAMTEC is that we never got the videos. Two videos off an album, really? In my heart of hearts YDKWTD would have been a stone groove smash hit wonder if it was setup properly. Oh well. For a nostalgic moment, in Breakdown when Mariah first appears as the showgirl and does that turn (you know what I'm talking about) still gives me life. Flawless. Queen. Weave snatched. How dare she look so gorgeous. Anyways, I hope all is going smoothly with the movie and her vision will be visualized haha. Would be totally adorable if Dembabies make a cameo as students from across the hall who has grinch for a teacher, or whatever.
