Re: Disappointing (59,798) (59,809) by Tevin from USA
Who one best new artist this year? And Tori shows Ariana that you can get inspiration from an artist without copying her.

Mariah has always been more attractive than Beyonce.

Re: Who would you rather (59,800) (59,806) by Seth M from South Africa
Wendy looks like a [censored] and she is obsessed with Mariah. She is talking about age when Mariah is way younger and better looking than her. She is jealous because Mariah makes a living through her talent of singing and songwriting while Wendy makes a living gossiping. Shame, it must be sad making your money by always slandering other people. I wish for the day that Mariah calls in and give it to her in public, the way Whitney did back in the day. Whitney was on fire that day and Wendy was lost for words during that radio interview. Wendy should consider other career options so she won't feel guilty knowing that the food that her child is eating is derived from income she earns gossiping.

Valentine's performance (59,805) by Will from England
Oh my, have you seen this compilation of some of Mariah's performances on Valentine's Day? It's amazing to hear her voice as good as this.

The Remixes - a missed opportunity (59,804) by Bill from the UK
Ben's post about the Classic Bossa Nova remix of Butterfly reminded me of how disappointed I was with The Remixes album when it was released. The first disc, with the club mixes, was great (although I did miss the ABMB Morales mix, that was a major omission and wish it had been included instead of the rather lacklustre TTR remix). The second disc was a real let down though. It started off okay but it just ended up being half filled with album cuts like Sweetheart, Crybaby, Loverboy and even remixes already on previous albums like Heartbreaker, there were so many great mixes that should have been included. Where on earth was the Pure Imagination remix of I Still Believe? The Drifting Remix of UTS would have been great for fans who never heard it before, likewise for the Butterfly and DYKWYGT club mixes. It could have contained some really hard to come by mixes, but instead it fell a bit flat. Great for the casual listener I'm sure, but MC has committed so much to her mixes over the years it was sad to see the opportunity to show off the rarer ones pass by.

She's singing live more than she gets credit for IMO. This snippet is beautiful. People are always doing the best they can at any moment. Even when the best they can is critiqued as crap. Lol.

Ten years ago (59,801) by Jono from USA
The 2016 Grammys just happened (more on that tragedy later), and exactly ten years ago the night of the 2006 Grammys I discovered Mariah. I know I know, I was 16 years late but hey I wasn't born until the 90s and had only stuck to classical music growing up. So I tuned in to the Grammys on a whim, not knowing much about pop music at the time. When Mariah Carey came on, I had heard of her but wasn't familiar with her music (at least, I didn't know these famous songs were by her). I didn't know the songs she was performing, but it didn't matter. For the next five minutes, I was mesmerized. In hindsight, it wasn't the most perfect vocal and yes some parts were lipped, but the passion in her performance soared right through the TV screen. My heart was stuck in my throat. This artist was the first one to ever make me feel something. Chills. Tears. Goosebumps. Everything. The following day, as best as I could in the early YouTube days, I went on a hunt through the internet learning everything I could about Mariah, from her music to her story. I discovered Vision Of Love. I found out All I Want For Christmas Is You and Always Be My Baby were written by her. I marveled at her whistle notes, her low husky notes, her piercing belts, her honey rich tone. I was absolutely hooked. I checked out her entire discography from the library and when two weeks wasn't enough time to appreciate, I decided to purchase them at the record store. And I haven't looked back since. Ten years of being a lamb. Thank you Mariah, for all that you have given not only to music but your fans. The fact that someone like me could "discover" your music and become a fan 16 years in to your career is a true testament to your longevity and artistic brilliance. Through the ups and downs, it has been one heck of a joy ride that I don't regret. Here is to the next ten (and many more).

Who would you rather (59,800) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So Miss Wendy had a round of "Who would you rather" on her show based on the picture of Bey and MC together. She said she held the poll among her staff and Mariah won by 1 point. Then she took an audience poll (probably fully expecting Bey to win). So when she took Beyonce's name, there was a huge cheer, but when she took Mariah's the name, the cheer was bigger and went on a few seconds longer. Haha clearly Mariah won the audience poll too but leave it to Wendy to say "I don't think Mariah won". Anyways she later did say that she thinks Mariah looks way better than Beyonce in the picture but she kind of still tried to water it down adding "if we ignore her annoying personality" and "on account of Mariah being older". Wendy, Wendy, Wendy, give it up, go to the Vegas show with your Rainbow tank top on (you know you have it), sing along to ABMB and go show Mimi some love, how long are we going to play this game? But on a different note, shame on Wendy to even pit these two beautiful women against each other (and other snarky comments she makes on her show about how some celebs look) when she herself is not quite the looker.

Re: How much (59,797) (59,799) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I enjoy "Bonnie and Clyde '03" though. So I am glad it exists. I think both "How Much" and "B and C" could co-exist and hold on to their own individuality. The two songs sampled Tupac in different manners. Jay-Z kept it similar to the original and Mariah gave it a breezy, fluttery, cute sound. I enjoy both the songs.

Disappointing (59,798) by darrian liu from taiwan
Grammy Awards was a real disappointment. Tori Kelly tbh should've won Best New Artist. She reminds me a lot of Mariah, with her 1992 Mariah luscious curls and dewy eyes, as well as the capability of writing such good, mature songs. Her voice also kinda reminds me of Mimi because of her elasticity and agility (Mariah is still on top though, no one could compare to Mimi except for the vocal legends).

Had Mariah released How Much, there would be no Bonnie and Clyde 03 by Beyonce.

Was such a bore. However I did enjoy Lady Gaga's performance. Taylor Swift winning album of the year was shocking.

Rainbow (59,794) by Giovanni from USA
Is a decent album. I love it. "Heartbreaker", "Bliss", "How much", "After tonight", "Petals". I always thought "How much" had potential to do well as a single. But overall a nice piece of work.

TGIFU-Valentine's Day 2016 (59,792) by 123 from USA
Ok this is my last post today. If you don't feel this performance you are dead. She wore that mic out. If I would have been there I would have thrown my sneaker at the stage. Lol.

Re: In Rainbow's defense (59,782) sound quality (59,791) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Sorry, enwar, kinda missed that. But yeah, the sound quality doesn't sound as polished as it could have been, some may even sound like demos. However, I can't say I'm surprised that was the case. Remember, at the time, Mariah had a very public falling out with Columbia, and she herself admitted that the whole thing was rushed to get her deal over with. With what Tommy did during the Glitter era, he could have easily had a say in the production final mastering of the album, suggesting that the rougher cuts be left that way. However, I also think that this may me a awkward sound transition thing that happens every decade. You know, when the equipment they use try to adapt to the changing music trends. A lot of the albums released in 1999 had this screechy, "sparkly" (for lack of a better term) overall production sound. Even FanMail and Jessica Simpson's debut had it. Just like how a lot of the records during the late 80s and early 90s had this weird transition from the vacuous beats and steely synths of the 80s to the more R&B-influenced downy percussion and softer vibe of the 90s.

Who told her to sound so clear when she was singing last night? I want to see the whole performance.

Re: Scarey (59,786) (59,789) by 123 from USA
You're back. I was wondering where you had went. Yes, last night's performances were the best vocally so far this go round. Her vocals were really good the first night which is a rarity whenever she starts a tour/performances. She regressed on the 2nd and 3rd night, recovered on the 4th, and did a nice job last night. She seems to be hitting that E5 in IBT so easily now. She really wowed me with TGIFU. She went for the same notes on the first night but didn't really hit the mark. This time she really nailed it. Here are some mostly live highlights I found.

Rainbow has a lot of hidden gems. I've always loved this album. It was my first Mariah album so I am partial to it. It is a very short album with interludes that I wish were full songs. Come on Mariah we need the full version of "Rainbow (interlude)", surprise us in Vegas with a live version.

Rainbow (59,787) by Terna from Nigeria
This was my first ever Mariah Carey album on CD back in 1999, the euphoria when "Bliss" came on, and the big grin on my face lol. I love everything about Rainbow and it's one of her albums that I got in the moment, so I'll always be attached to that album. I do agree that it does indeed have an overall unpolished almost demo like sound to it, which gives it this vibe. There's also this uncertain feeling attached to that album everytime I play it. I still cherish the album though. OK I'm gonna listen to it right now lol.

Scarey (59,786) by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA
I see that she sounds better with the most recent performance of VOL, but it is unnerving that she can't even take a few weeks off before her voice falls apart.

Re: In Rainbow's defense (59,783) (59,785) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Yeah, I actually really love Rainbow. There are a couple tracks that aren't my absolute fave ever done by MC, but it is an intricate piece that I truly enjoy upon every listen. From Petals to Against All Odds. I know a lot of fans prefer the Heartbreaker remix (not that I don't like it lol), but I actually absolutely love the original with Jay-Z because it's so playful and because of the epic video with Bianca.

Re: Happy Valentine's Day (59,772) (59,784) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I hope everyone had an amazing Valentines Day. It's not all about whether in a relationship or not. I'd personally love a Vegas DVD, regardless. I'd so love for the label to get behind that.
