Re: "Skinny sells" (56,507) (56,520)
by Malcolm from Asia

The problem is, Mariah Carey is known for her perfect sexy body. Adele and Meghan Trainor started their respective careers with that body so the public accepts them. But for MC's case, she is one of the sexiest singers in the biz and all of the sudden, she gains weight and many people started to have disinterest in her music and this is the reality. Like what Katy said, the industry is shallow. Personally, I don't care if Mariah gains weight or not, the most important thing is her voice and her music. But if I will think as what general public and the industry wants, she must slim down and bring back her hot body for her to gain more popularity, hit singles and albums. Do you think Beyonce or Rihanna will have that popularity and followers if they are having more weight? I don't think so.

I'm not saying it doesn't help. However, that alone won't make her popular. It's also obvious she gets a lot more confident when she's slimmer, both musically and on stage. The music industry is harsh against anyone who's a bit bigger, and I'm sure she knows that. But what would be the point working tirelessly to get a fab body right now when she's not going to be on stage promoting anything? People on here should just learn to be happy for her. I could be wrong but it wouldn't seem right to bring out an album now so I'd rather her eat fancy food, be romanced and get inspired and then bring a killer album after Christmas at some point. Then start getting into shape. She said in an interview that she wants to lose it anyway so it's not like she's not aware of it lol.

Skinny does sell because nobody want to see a giant Mariah (or anyone) straddle a motorcycle. Of course skinny isn't going to give her huge hits but I think Meghan Trainor and Adele are unfair comparisons because they have their youth on their side; something we all know is most valuable in hollywood - regardless of size.

On a much lighter note. Do Philippino schools actually have Mariah Carey in their official syllabus or something? These things make me smile.

I have to be honest, I think there is way too much being read into the photo Mariah posted on her facebook wishing Beyonce happy birthday. Just because there is speculation that Bey stole the concept behind MIAMTEC, doesn't make it fact. I didn't feel anything malicious behind Mariah's message, and I thought they both looked beautiful.

Your post comes off as a desperate attempt to distract from the indisputable points I made about strange men, having nothing but negative things to say about one of the most beautiful women alive and how she should change her body to their specific, yet contradictory, liking. As far as we know, you are (hopefully) also complete strangers to her which makes it creepy to be honest. People with possible personality disorders who obsess over the cutting and slicing of a female's body who doesn't even know you exist? I'd be scared to label you and your lot. How you turned that into gay bashing I will thankfully never know. But whatever keeps you up at night is fine by me.

You're a lousy liar making such statements without even taking the time to fabricate false proof. FYI, using Instagram filters on occasion is not photoshopping. No woman in their right mind would post unflattering pictures of themselves of their own volition. We pick and chose, delete the ones we don't like and keep the good ones. A filter is just a fun feature on most modern devises. You obviously haven't ever been introduced to one going by what you let roam your mind and then post for all our displeasure. But make no mistake Andrew, you are a valuable im-poster because as long as there are lurkers and unnamed members liking your posts in kegion and ignoring the obvious Lamb posts, your very presence proves how deep seated the vendetta against Mariah still is. But thanks to you and your email buddies Team Mariah has never been more hip to the scheme. Keep up the good work.

It's awesome. I feel discussion of what artists are doing musically is not an attack on Mariah. There is room for all flavors and colors of the rainbow, and it shouldn't have to be viewed in fear as threat or a competition. There's no need to attack under the guise of supporting Mariah.

Mariah isn't even overweight, so these spiteful comments are redundant. She looked amazing at the Hollywood Walk of Fame event. She's had two children and isn't 23 anymore. All I'm concerned with is Mariah finding happiness and continuing to share her talent with us.

I totally agree with you, it is shallow. I don't care what Mariah does with her body but I have accepted that the entertainment industry is shallow. The industry is already ageist so being slimmer would obviously help her regain her popularity. I know that shouldn't be the case but oh well.

"Skinny sells" (56,507)
by Luke from United Kingdom

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous haha. A hot body, perfect boobs, tight ass and toned muscles isn't going to put her at the top of the charts. Look at artists like Meghan Trainor or Adele. Neither of them are super slim or what is considered "the ideal body". They are just a healthy weight and body size and they own it. If the music is good and connects with people, it will sell. Also, she's not even big. She actually just looks healthy to me. You know, someone who is enjoying their life. She looks amazing when she's not wearing relaxing clothes, I highly doubt a lot of you look like sensational models when you're in comfortable attire. When she was in France she looked great. We all want her to do well but I really don't understand why people go on about her weight like she can hop into a time machine. She's a busy woman and maybe losing weight isn't at the top of her list at the minute, she had a pretty shit year last year so let her enjoy her self for a while. I doubt she's going to release an album this year to promote, so if I was her I'd pig out as much as I could before I did release one.

Janet's Unbreakable (56,506)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

I know this is a Mariah board but can we just appreciate the amazingness that is Janet's new song Unbreakable? That Yours-ish intro, that breezy sample, dem dreamy harmonies, dem angelic soaring vocals, that '90s vibe? I mean really, really good. This and No Sleeep are giving me The Velvet Rope vibes which is always a good thing, as that album to me is like Janet's own version of Butterfly. If these 2 tracks are any indication of what's coming in her new album, Jan might just have her version of MIAMTEC. So who cares if her new single fell off iTunes after a day? It's a sweet love letter to her fans and still crushes any other song on the radio today in terms of quality. I'm just proud legacy artists like her and Mimi are still doing their own things to mostly great results.

The body (56,504)
by Andrew from UK
| |

Some righteous indignation about comments concerning Mariah's weight may well be justified if it weren't for the fact that she airbrushes her photos to within an inch of their life which then makes Entertainment News in the form of mockery. She clearly isn't happy to be "whatever" size if she is doing this. It is also a source of mockery to wear skimpy revealing outfits to try to feel sexy if many people would say that you no longer are. I suppose the adage is that you have the right to admiration only if you've out in the work. In the same vein that many lambs and fans alike want music to be proud of and show off to other people again, they quite rightly want an image with which they can do the same, and shouldn't really be castigated for it. This isn't a love-in, it's fans paying an artist for entertainment etc. And if Mariah wants to be followed by a lot more people than she is right now, she does need to play the game and put the work in. Or cover up more and stop airbrushing.

Totally disgusted how some are going on and on about Mariah's weight. Really? Are we going there again, let the woman be how she wants to be, last time I checked she's a singer and not a size 0 model. If she loses weight that means she's slaying? Or if she loses weight she will be on top of the game again? I didn't know she had to be thin for that. Really getting tired of this, how shallow.

Mariah Carey is number 73 on UK iTunes. She was 109 five hours ago. Can someone explain the uptick in sales? I don't understand and it's confusing. I am happy #1 To Infinity is still doing well. It was 182 in Japan earlier today.

Great to see David Korins tweet about working on the Mariah Carey Christmas show at The Beacon - I can't wait. Any lamb's have any idea of dates yet? I was fortunate enough to come and see her last Christmas from the UK and I have booked 15th-21st December flights/hotel to cover the period she ran for last year so fingers crossed I will get to see Mariah again, or back to Las Vegas I have to go lol excited.

I have been thinking myself lately Mariah seems to not care as much about the way she looks etc. I feel as though she just wants to live her life as being a mother and spending time with her new boyfriend, she doesnt seem bothered about new music right now. Lets hope I'm wrong lol. But if she wants to take a break from singing I'm happy for her.

I really thought she would have achieved it before the release of Infinity, especially since she looked a lot smaller on her Christmas shows and on Ellen, but she's only been getting bigger. It's like she doesn't even care anymore. I hope she surprises all of us and gets her Idol body back.

Right? Look at her body here. She literally looked her best in 2013. She wasn't too big and not too skinny, her boobs weren't small like on E=MC2 era, Perfect boob to waist ratio and beautiful gorgeous hair, just perfection. Her face literally looked the same as the Butterfly era when she shaded Nicki about Hot 100 #1's. It's actually ridiculous. I'm just starting to realize how much she slayed Nicki's ensembles. Mariah wasn't playing games at all lmao. Her hair and make up were so on point. The rivalry was so real. Now Nicki also has good fashion sense but she was still on the verge of the wigs and flamboyancy at that time so she looked like a joke next to Mariah's A+ hair and make up, expensive royalty dresses and shoes. She just looked so authentic and eye catching-ly stunningly gorgeous while Nicki looked pretty artificial. Mariah's natural exotic beauty out shined her in every way possible. This is probably why Nicki mocked her so many times and would wear the same color hours before the show. Then after Idol, Nicki started to look more normal and appreciated her hair more. I guess she learned a lot from Mariah. Anyway, it would be fabulous if Mimi gets that body and slayage back again.

Mariah the beautiful (56,496)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
As usual I'm going against the grain but, much like James, I like Mariah just the way she is now. I can't remember a time where she didn't exude health and good habits, now or any other time. She's lost about 171 pounds a.k.a. 78 kilos, of a dumbbell, this past year and it shows in her entire deportment. She's gained a significant amount of smile muscles instead and looks extremely relaxed and carefree on top of being plain beautiful. She can finally carry Dembabies in her arms and play with them freely after that nasty fall on the #Beautiful remix video-shoot that changed her whole life trajectory with the multiple injuries she suffered through and is still recovering from as far as we know. It was a blessing in disguise because it's helped expose the people who don't wish her well and brought her true champions out. I love how confident she is in her own body no matter what size she is and how little value she places in looks when it comes to who she counts as friends or admires as artists etc. Fun fact: I haven't personally owned a scale since 2006 because Mariah said she didn't. Thanks MiMi. I'd rather buy her new album, whenever it comes out, with the money. Or treat a friend to dinner for no particular reason. I also like a good boot so I indulge accordingly. But that's just me. Anybody who believes in Mariah when everybody else doubts her and sees all the good that radiates out of her when the detractors are busy finding flaws is A-OK in my book. So shootout to all of you (a.k.a. Lambs) who are in that category. With that said: Go WoolPac go. As you were.

Idolriah body (56,495)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|
|
I know during the Idol era it didn't take her long to get into shape. I remember during the Australia concerts in the beginning of that year she was a bit bigger, although her little mini dresses were super cute it didn't fit her well. Not coming off as offensive or anything but her waist wasn't completely all the way snatched. So it probably only took her a couple months to tone up. My best guess is she probably saw herself on TV during the audition rounds and didn't like the way she looked. It was only during the live shows when she came out looking all types of flawless. Anyway, the diva's on vacation and she's enjoying herself, let her be. But when she does decide to get her body back, I'd say hire Britney's trainer. She's been looking amazing.
