New era? (103,250) by Jamie from UK
Wise words Will, it's hard to believe it's been 30 years. I'm still in 1993 in my head lol. I think as fans we always want more but we forget that she's a human who has achieved so much and probably wants to kick back. I'm guilty of wanting that big album hit again but in reality that's probably never gonna happen. I think we can just expect small projects now, whilst she's still a huge name there naturally comes a time when an artist relaxes and no longer feels the need to be constantly pushing themselves.

New era? (103,249) by Will from England
I think it's to be expected that she slows down now. She's done literally everything there is to accomplish in music that she wants to do and has broken and made so many musical history records; she's done all the dog and pony shows for each album; she's performed in nearly every country; she's had to her rise, fall and return to grace. Her arc is complete, and there is nothing more for her to do expect enjoy the life she has built for her family. Her children are nearly teenagers, and for now, she is enjoying being a mom to them, occasionally recording and writing stuff, but without the pressures for commitment to a record label to deliver a full album and do a promotional tour. Look at the other legacy acts around, there isn't anyone in her category making music or having hits (with the odd exception here or there like Kylie), it's all the younger upcoming artists and I'd like to think that she has made peace with that. Her final large promotional push she had to do, that I feel she wanted to achieve and was easily attainable at that point, was to get AIWFCIY to number 1, and that's done, and that song will now continue to increase in weeks at number 1 every year, before finally becoming the longest running number 1 song ever on the chart ad infinitum. However, that's not to say she will never release another musical project, I don't think that she can ever let that happen considering her views on Caution, but something to really sum up over 30 years in a cut-throat business and something she can be proud of being the final major project, and finish it with her sweet 16th album.

New era? (103,248) by Andrew from the UK
An era? Mariah the music artist is over. She is Christmas-oriented for the dollars and that is it. And why? Because her voice is shot and musically there's nothing left she has to offer. I don't say it with schadenfreude - I offer it as a truth which I am happy to be attacked and disproven.

New era? (103,247) by Bobby A from United States
Is this the new era that no one expected? An era where we get new items dropped in MC's store quarterly and occasional video posts on Twitter. I believe this is the new norm. Therefore, I am disappointed with the release of the new Honey 2 LP. The gold colored vinyl is not worth buying. I don't purchase color vinyl because it does not produce brillant stereophonic sound like black vinyl. This is where we are from the start in 1990 to 2023. It is really disappointing that MC hasn't addressed anything. Did Elton John or Janet Jackson experience a career slow down like this without some type of announcement? I would like to know.

Article: "Once you work with Mariah Carey, anything is possible" (103,246) by Mariahsbaby from usa
Beyond happy for Mariah and Latto, I love how much appreciation, love and good vibes she sends Mariah's way, on the internet, on the gram, on the blogs and on the mainstream media. I love love love her but she did Nicki Minaj dirty and I need sis to fix that. Mariah really made a classic out of a classic. The song has sold over 1.4 million pure copies to date, it's still Latto's highest selling song. As I'm currently boycotting Spotify, I use Apple Music and it's still her most popular track on Apple Music. It's crazy how Mariah is in most of her collaborates biggest hits.

I wish Mariah the genius took a break and she really went hungry with her tracklist and added a selection of the hottest artists. It would do wonders for her.

Dj Khaled (as a producer)
Mike will made it (c'mon we need another song from them, Faded is still that girl and still hits me the same way)
Max Martin (c'mon why are they playing with us)
Pharrell (they could make magic again if they wanted to)
Nile Rodgers (I love love love him)
Kygo (on his album though, give him one of your classics and not a #1 lol, just to have fun with and to reintroduce to the younger generations)
David Guetta (a remix from the songs in the album)
Diplo (controversial but the hit that could come out would be sick)

Artists:
Giveon (just imagine the low notes, the harmonies, the R&B classic vibes)
Drake (a really happy mid tempo song for the summer)
Justin Bieber (a mellow late night slow jam, 2023 meets Mariah)
Chris Brown (another banger because that's all that boy drops and Mariah would truly shine, two musical genius in their own ways).

Ugh the females are harder so you get two unexpected ones.

Taylor Swift (a female empowerment song, uplifting, a warm and luscious sound, r&b/country song meets 23' pop).
Ayra Starr (she is the moment, Kelly Rowland was the first huge American star that gave her a feature, for someone who is so musically gifted and who earned her place as one of the most successful artists yet even more talented its really a shame Mariah hasn't done a afro-beat song, afro music is taking over the entire world and charts around the globe dahling)

I have listened to it for 8 years and its growth is beautiful to watch, that genre needs to be explored by the the queen of music.

I would also add to this that - as Randy has just told me - Loverboy was the No.1 selling single that year. (I think this is in the book, akso, right?) We know it's not Mariah's best work. in fact, on first listening, who here didn't wait for the chorus and go... "Er, what the actual ****?" There was no chorus. Sweet Sweet Fantasy Loverboy it was not.

The crux is this: Bootylicious is in no way Destiny Child's best song. In fact, it's essentially a nothing with "I don't think you're ready for this jelly" as a gimmick hook. In British English vernacular: it's shite. It is in no way better than Loverboy and, I submit this also: if Mariah had put out Loverboy Firecracker and said to the critics: that B stole by my sample but I stand by my work, I believe she would have blown Destiny's Child out of the water.

Loverboy Firecracker is 100% brilliant Mariah Carey. She should have gone for it. She would have had the public and radio behind her.

I think "Love Muffin" and "Ken Lee" should have been discounted to $0.49. They would've gone to #1 for sure.

"Love muffin, boy give your love to me. My muffin needs your lovin' so relentlessly."

"Kee Leeeeeeeeeee, Tuliboodiboodoubtyou."

How Mariah's "Dreamlover" changed dance remixes (103,237) by jaker20 from US
It's Dreamlover's turn to go viral and bring this beautiful and great song to the new generation.

This is really the song that brought Mariah's career into a new level, from R&B to global pop. At that point, she had 6 number ones, and if this song didn't take off like it did, Music Box would not have become one of the biggest albums in history. This song brought her from Paul Abdul level of success, to Beatles level of success. Horray for Dreamlover.

Maybe January would be the right time. Every year since AIWFCIY reached number 1, Mariah goes viral at that time of the year (BIR and Fantasy, IAW, etc.), because after the holidays, the awareness on Mariah's catalog is at its a high point. So she needs a post-holiday release plan or something.

Thank you, Randy my thoughts exactly. I appreciate your informative response on this. I remember that time I always looked at the Billboard Hot 100 to see how Mariah's latest single performed, only to be disappointed with Butterly and Breakdown and wondered why (not knowing then the chart rules) they did not chart. However, I was like, "Yey" when My All made a splash at No. 1. I felt the same disappointment with Sweetheart and When You Believe, but I went up and jumping with Heartbreaker and TGIFY. Oh well, those were the days we can only reminisce.

Andrew - stop this. Stop this at once. You're making too much sense and I will not tolerate agreeing with you for one more second. What will the neighbors think? For all that is holy, I insist you not utter another word of reason. It's as homophobic as Bill and Rob flirting with poor photogenic Jamie. I pray Jamie hath the fortitude to Make it Through the Rain and take even more flattering pictures. After all, we all deserve a Right to Dream (Randy's Theme). I bid you farewell now before Randy, Bill, Rob, and Jaime wonder why they're in it catching strays. And whilst I go, please remember that should you not heed my plea, I will hunt you down. I hope you know this one - I see you up there.

Lol. I got all excited today at the library. I totally ignored those Pepsi ring tones when they came out. Shout out to Chante Moore for taking up for MC. She is the real deal. She can execute her whistle notes as well. She recently married former BET executive Stephen Hill who helped MC find new management after Crustella. What if Mimi married Stephen Hill? Chante got her man. Lol. By way Mariah Trends on Twitter posted a video today of MC holding baby Philip with Rocky. Who is baby Philip?

Discounted singles (103,228) by Andrew from the UK
I must be missing something here. "Discounted singles"?

My first question would be: "Discounted from what?" People can sell whatever they want at any price in a free market society. As on a bell curve, items are sold at the lowest price that will shift more units that at a higher price that will shift less if it would make more profit to do so? I don't recall in Woolworths of Tower Record or any other music store in the UK at the time there being a standard fixed price for a single.

And, in any case, my second question would be: "Who, in their right mind, buys a hardcopy single because of the price? "Way back when, back in the day, all songs were on the radio and music television channels before they hit the music stores. I had rarely gone to one not knowing what the new single releases sounded like - or, if I had, I would generally (elongated) know what the single was going to sound like dependent on the artist. It's not as if people bought My All not knowing what a Mariah Carey ballad would sound like. The argument is absurd.

My third question would be: "If it were so easy to get to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by discounting a hardcopy single in the music stores - that is, if the high charting led to further purchases at full price, even: why didn't everyone do it?" There is something so dubious about this "Mariah only got No.1 because of discounted singles" argument that it smacks of disingenuousness somewhere.

Unless I am gravely mistaken. But the trouble with entertaining Mariah critics in this talking point is that they're arguing something that can never be won and so they can chip away at her with it. But it can be argued on a test of objective reasonability. Yes, I imagine some persons did throw it into their baskets because it was cheap, as some people are so inclined - but so inclined in *those* numbers? I would tell anyone suggesting that as a reality to not waste my time.

This has been a good week with great topics. From rumors of MC's impending return to A.I. to reminiscing about the Price sisters and Melonie Daniels to the impact of discounted singles to flirting with a favorite board member to my failed The Rarities 2 Twiiter campaign, the topics brought us all together. I may have to visit the U.K. this Christmas though.
