I was about to post this. Just amazing. Historic, actually. 35 years ago, is that right? Wow. Time really flies.

I love it. We can only hope she will become inspired by this hot new song by Ariana. Women are going to rule the charts in 2024.

And here I thought Andrew doesn't live for our validation because he is so much better with his taste in music and his worldly views.

I'm glad it's not only me who isn't a fan of Charmbracelet. I hardly ever listen to it except for "The One". It seems to be a huge fan favorite.

MC should make her first true R&B jazz adult contemporary album to reach masses again. I was thinking today she is going to have to release an album with a cohesive group of live musicians who can give her a new sound so she can improvise live. Improvisation is her strength that no one else can do quite like MC. Remember the mop the floor song during one of the Christmas shows. Also, I believe MC16 is going to be the album that is going to be the true follow-up to Butterfly. I felt cheated and disappointed with Rainbow and Charmbracelet being released after the brillant Butterfly album. I know that I am not the only one who felt cheated and disappointed in 1999 and 2002.

Missy Elliot (104,913) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
STN is also a skip for me. I love the beat of "Babydoll", I love the lyrics too. It paints a picture, you can visualise the lyrics, it's like a diary entry. And I think it fits perfectly into the "Butterfly". Babydoll also reminds me of "Crybaby". They are ofcourse very different songs but both seem like entries from the diary of Mariah's sleepless nights.

JLo Hummingbird = Butterfly (104,912) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
"Gowns, beautiful gowns" is all I have to say about JLo at this point. I was reading how she blatantly copied songs not just Mariah's she stole from Usher too. Then she basically passed of other singer's vocals in her demo as her own. Since I became a lamb I have a special respect for singers who are "artists" and songwriters and people who genuinely are passionate about their craft. JLo is definitely among those.

What I like about "Babydoll" is the beat, it hits hard. In my humble opinion, it's a way better song than "Stay the Night" which I always skip.

When it comes to music, Jennifer's always been like many other artists, a product. She can dance and somewhat act, but music is not one of her talents. She's accomplished whatever she has accomplished because of Selena. Had Selena been here with us today, Jennifer wouldn't be known. I've enjoyed her fist two albums and I actually like her. She sadly got caught up in Tommy's game.

JLo has not had a single original idea since the day she came into the limelight. Her lack of artistry and vision and talent baffles me. I don't get her appeal. She blatantly copied Mariah in a lot of things. Her only call to fame is she's got a good stylist so she stays relevant for her fashion and her "JLo Glow".

I will not stand for the "Babydoll" slander. That song is amazing. (For clarification for some people's mind where I live rent free - no I don't want an album full of Babydoll but I 100% enjoy the the song till date). It was peak 90s R&B vibes.

There is a 2015 film starring She-who-must-not-be-named titled "The Boy Next Door". It's not bad - bit run-of-the-mill but she *can* act in certain narrowband roles. There is a scene in it where thee camera is close-up on her face and she just says the word "Firecracker". I leapt off the couch, knelt in front of the television replaying those few seconds over and over and over. That one word? That one particular word referring to that one sample that she seized from Mariah's arsenal? That *one* word? One which was not required? I cannot read it any other way that it was a direct dig at Mariah. Directly through the television screen. And in so doing, was a direct dig at me and all of you. She knows if Mariah performs that the camera will be on her if she's in the audience. It will be directly in front of her to the side. And she takes out her phone?

Cannot stand the woman. She's an average singer and an average dancer, one that has used her sexuality to smurf her the way to where she is in life. She must not be named.

Missy Smelliot (104,904) by Andrew from the UK
Babydoll is the worst thing on Butterfly. It doesn't fit the rest of the album. Nay, moreso, if not halting the flow, it completely ruins the fluidity of an otherwise perfect showcase. To this day I cannot listen to that track when listening to Butterfly top to bottom (which is how it really should be experienced).

I fully support you when you say that the focus should not be on collabos but, rather, on creating bloody good melodies with classic, universal or beautiful lyricism, vocalised well with production suiting a modern audience. On snoozefest songs like "Ribbon" and "Babydoll" I often wondered for whom Mariah was writing these songs? The public? Or the people in the studio with her?

Also, you had me at "wile".

No one said "she should make songs like Ribbon". I said I enjoy the song. Enjoying something doesn't mean I want an album full of a song she made 15 years ago. Maybe don't make assumptions when you're "calling out" people.

Album ideas (104,902) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Bill I love all your album ideas. I really wish we would get at least two of your ideas. My favourite would be of course the Jazz album "They call the wind Mariah". I've been listening to "Lullaby of Birdland" and "Nevertheless I'm in Love with you" on repeat. Mariah can sing almost every genre but she's really a hidden jazz lady. And her diva style suits it as well. But the other ideas are also great. I think almost every fan heart would be pleased too.

Album ideas (104,901) by Bill from the UK
As it's been over half a decade since Mariah's last album, here are some ideas to help wile away the time.

*They Call the Wind Mariah*
A collection of jazz standards or jazz influenced numbers. The Wind from Emotions and studio versions of Lullaby of Birdland and Don't Explain could also feature. It would also have some Mariah-penned jazz numbers and some of the old torch songs of old. It'd suit her current voice well.

*Mariah Carey Presents... The Butterfly Lounge*
Her hits and some fan favourites re-worked a la the Late Night Valentine's version of We Belong Together. Also include The Roof with Brandy.

*Reckless*
Caution's sequel or counterpart. A companion piece to Caution, with a lighter, brighter, more airy and free feel than the concise, precise, measured delivery of Caution.

*I Am Free* (Mariah Carey and the Clark Sisters)
Her long awaited gospel album. Much as The Price Sisters and Melanie should have got a credit on the Merry Christmas album for all they brought to the project, this would be a double-billed album as the Clark Sisters will feature on every song, on background and sharing the leads and working with MC on the vocal arrangements. Some new material and some of Mariah's gospel classics, like the title track, re-worked.

*And You Don't Remember*
Mariah's hidden gems from her old albums in a compilation. No hit singles allowed. This is the space for Vanishing, the title track, Till the End of Time, All I've Ever Wanted, Melt Away, Outside etc. to get their day in the sun. Plus a couple of new vault tracks because why not.

*Songs In the Key of MC*
As Andrew said, a new vibrant record with a party/E=MC2 vibe.
