YDKWTD (45,085)

Ok so it was declared that this is the new single. Then what? Has there been any news on how she plans to promote it? Apart from the 2 Australian radio interviews? Seriously why even bother with a single when it's not put to proper use? This is the last chance to save the album, if it's even possible at this stage. But yet again, no news. What happened to the video? Why is there no talk of it? And it's becoming almost a month since the album dropped, where on earth are the proper lyrics that was supposed to be released in a special way? Ugh Mariah why.

Re: Mariah's attitude problem (45,084)
by jaker20 from US

Mariah's image is definitely at its lowest point right now. Like someone here said, the voice is still there, the talent and music is still there. But the general public can't stand her. Her antics are grating. Her interviews are painful to watch. Her sensuality is past her prime. Her album/single covers are embarrassing. Where has the professional artist gone? I am a hardcore fan, and I care, otherwise, I won't even say these things. I will just let her sink and let it be. But if I think this, you can only imagine what others think of her. Sure, she's entitled to be herself. But as an artist, the general public should know her first and foremost as an artist. As a pro. As a true artist. Not as a Kardashian, unless that's the career she wants now. During the TEOM era, she was poised, composed, respectful, very professional and powerful looking. Someone you actually look up to. The last 5 years or so (dare I say after she got married to Bobby Brown, I mean Nick Cannon) she's turn into a lady/child, immature, unprofessional and talks over interviewers, lazy creativity, videos in bikinis and swimsuits, lipping constantly. Her decline is painful to watch.

Real versus rude (bad mouthing/shade) (45,082)
by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia

|
Well first allow me to clarify that when I mentioned Mariah being "real", I wasn't referring to her making shady remarks about people. I was actually referring to her not giving "fake" answers in interviews. For example: when Barbara Walters asked her if she "trusted Nick", and she said "sometimes". I know some people felt that she threw him under the bus, but I felt like it was a "real, straight forward, non beating around the bush" answer and you can't really be mad at that. She later went on to clarify in the interview with Gale King, that "it's a real marriage, she gets on his nerves and he gets on her nerves, but that doesn't mean they're gonna get a divorce in 4 months". I thought that was a great answer and an example of not being overly "PC (politically correct). Also I don't think she should pretend to be a fan of everyone's music, not meaning she should shade them, but I like knowing the past or current artists she truly admires (Beyonce, Prince, Rihanna, Jazmine Sullivan, Aretha etc. in no particular order). I do think she should be more encouraging and positive towards artists that she may not necessarily care for though (even if she feels that they are capitalizing off her style). One time I did actually get angry at Mariah was when she indirectly shaded Leona Lewis, because she is a sweetheart. I didn't feel that she shaded Ariana Grande though, she actually said something good that went unnoticed when she said "If this is what anybody wants to do I wish them the best and longevity", but that's all she should've said, because the comments before that did come off the wrong way. So over all she should embrace the Christina's, Leona's, and Ariana's of the world a little more. That's my critique on her personality flaw.

Mariah's attitude problem (J.Lo-free version) (45,081)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
We all know Mariah's just as good a person as all of us here, and like us, has some flaws as well. Normally I'd think it'd be unfair to nitpick her faults because she can't do the same to us, but I'm with all the rants about her diva-tude on this board because it has reached a point where she's already tarnishing her legacy as a person. I'm sure she's carved her place in history for her talent, but she's more than just a singer. Truth be told, there's a difference between being "real" and acting like a stuck-up bitch with serious issues. She has this bad habit of publicly badmouthing or at the very least, shading people she dislikes or who have crossed her to some extent. Except a few instances when it was reasonable, most of the time not even her having insecurities is enough reason to justify her passive-aggressive tendencies. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Mimi shade as long as it's valid and rare, but recently it's been even embarrassing at times for us fans when she plays ice queen or makes a snide remark or talks about herself incessantly on mundane matters irrelevant to what's asked of her. I'm sorry, but maybe unless you're Madonna who's been ruthless from the start but can still sell at least 2M of her releases worldwide, not even career longevity or prodigious talent can warrant you such entitled behavior, especially if you worked your way to the top with such humility. I hope she realizes this soon, as I feel some of the damage to her image is now irreparable.

Yuan / The Truth (45,080)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Yuan, I think The Truth is probably right on this one. Although Mariah's debut happened in 1990, she was actually signed in the late 80s and spent most of 1988/89 working on the album. Tommy was still married at that point but it's pretty obvious Mariah's arrival on the scene ended his marriage. His memoirs even indicate how obsessed he was with her at the beginning, and I remember Brenda K saying that there was a "definite chemistry" between them at the infamous demo tape party.

I think Faded is one of the best tracks on the album. I really feel like it was originally titled "Echo" until Mariah realized "faded" was mentioned more times in the song. It borders on overproduction, which is probably a good thing because it's what makes it sound lush. By feel, it's the most opulent-sounding joint on the record. I love how the keyboard notes are simply repeated throughout the song, with bass added in only during the choruses - it almost seems as if the whole track was built around them. Plus they function as the cut's best hook, since no particular part of the song (not even the chorus) really stands out on its own. Like YM(E), it has an background atmospheric, but not as airy or dated. Even though there's quite a lot going on particularly towards the ending, there's a certain rawness to Mariah's delivery that breaks through and emphasizes the heartbreak that drives the song. The diary-writing intro adds a nice touch. Overall, it's just a really pretty song that's quite special, because as it would fit nicely in MOAIA, it also has a somber vibe and vocal performance that to me, wouldn't make it sound out of place on Butterfly, if only the production was less modern. And although I'm generally not a fan of producers leaving their audio signatures in the tracks they create, I barely mind MikeWillMadeIt's stamp here - that's how good the song is to me. It would make a great fall-winter release.

Album art (45,078)

The fans are coming up with much better cover arts than the label. I found this one so cute, aww. I laughed out loud because young MC is holding a pack of cigarette (like she mentioned earlier) and young or short Wale is taking a cigarette from her.

It's always love. At the end of the day, we are lambily so there's no hard feelings. Even though it may seem like it sometimes. I think we had a great debate, and saw where each other were coming from on some things (well at least I did ). I'm glad we both stood our ground and was peacefully able to agree to disagree. So I guess we can now officially bury that subject for good and move on to better things/topics/discussions.

qhm (45,075)

I am with you on the remixes being horrible copy paste jobs. She gets two great vocalists in the studio and doesn't make a new song or re-record the old one. Mary J Blige sounds great but I don't understand the point of her being in the song. Like it's a song about Mariah being sassy and telling off her boyfriend, and while she's at it, threatening to crack his forehead. So why exactly is Mary in it? They should have just made a women power song or just give Mary a new verse. I also don't like the BGK remix. I am glad you liked it, but I can't help but cringe everytime Kelly goes "the whole plan was just to chill" and "she mixed something in my drink". Then there is the thing that they are clearly talking about two very different nights (MC talking about how he cheated in her house and Kelly talking about how he got "date raped" at another girl's house). So either they got lazy with the lyrics and messed it up or our boy cheated 2 different times and was confused about which one M is pissed about. Regardless, Kelly seems to think it is a legit proof that he isn't a cheater because he didn't mean to get nasty, he just went to get some shots with a girl at her house while he has a girlfriend. And also the part where MC sings "fading away" and Kelly goes "don't fade, don't fade". Ugh.

Dem rumors (45,074)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Shortly after MIAMTEC dropped, I remember there were several posts here that voiced out concerns regarding the current state of Mariah and Nick's relationship. Probably due to various negative rumors circulating, Mimi being vague when asked about Nick in interviews, and the theme of some cuts on the new album such as Faded, Thirsty and Camouflage, some wondered if there really was trouble in paradise. Well the recent advanced father's day family pic Mariah posted was proof that all is well at least for now - unless it was just part of some act, which is doubtful. Now since rumors are exactly just that unless proven true and Mimi's recent evasion of relationship questions may just be a newfound way of safeguarding her marriage and family, I guess my take on the other factor left is that we should just not read too much into her lyrics. While she can be notoriously personal when composing stuff (something she ironically denies as she apparently wants her songs to be more relatable which we all call b.s.), I don't think these new heartbreak songs are really directed towards Nick, at least not entirely. It's possible that she may have been inspired by some instances she's experienced, but as she was completing the song, added some details that may not have necessarily happened to her but are in keeping with the theme/narrative of the track. I mean 2008-2009 basically was Mariah and Nick's honeymoon phase, but we still got MOAIA which essentially is a break-up album.

Yuan response (45,073)
by THE TRUTH from USA
| |
|
|
Hi Yuan, Dubai is awesome. Here's the thing, Beyonce when she left her "father's management" was no where near a the level Mariah had achieved in her career or had she achieved the milestones successes in terms of sales or charted hits. When you speak of that level of superstardom you're talking Michael Jackson, Mariah, U2, Rolling Stones, artists that have 20 plus year track records of writing and performing their own material with billions of dollars worth of revenue being generated. Beyonce is and always will be a construct, an assembly line, prefabricated product of the music industry machine. As far as Mottola, we pretty much agree it seems, my only point was that he was chasing Mariah from the day they met and he didn't wait to be "legally separated from his wife" to begin his courtship.

Betcha Gon' Know and It's A Wrap "remixes" (45,071)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
I don't mind repeating myself - these are not remixes. They're disappointing duets lazily copy-pasted together with zero resung vocals from Mimi. Apparently the woman who has brought us the excellent Fantasy and TGIFY remixes suddenly forgot what "remix" means. And though the vocal contributions from both guest artists are good, sadly, Mariah's lack of involvement makes them sound like they're just phoned in. Both rehashes ended up as poor attempts to mask the fact that they weren't in the studio with Mimi. But then I guess these would sound fine to new listeners oblivious to the existence of MOAIA. 1) When I first heard MJB's spoken intro on IAW, I cringed, then was like, to semi-quote her own terrible words, "You better than that. And you're Mary J. Blige, remember?" It's a shame, because she sings the sassy hell out of that second verse. 2) Am I the only one who actually thinks R. Kelly's verse on BGK made sense? Adding his part turned the grack into some he said/she said scenario, like the confrontation that follows after the cheating incident Mariah witnessed. I still hate that they cut the "lalalalalalaugh" bit instead of extending the song a bit to accommodate R. Kelly's contribution, but overall, to me this is slightly more successful than the IAW one because a) at least there was new material added, and b) it feels a wee bit more like a duet, though that might be just because of thematic cohesion and R. Kelly's ad-libs towards the end.

Hi all. I need some help. I would like to purchase the Japanese edition of MIAMTEC, the one that comes with the libretto but I have no idea where to find it. I read that some of you purchased it. For those of you who have it, would you be so kind to send me the link where you got it from? I have all the editions (standard and deluxe both clean and explicit and the Target one). I would like to add the Japanese edition to my collection. My email is dlptarraga@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance.

Thank you. You thought I was playing this song a ton before with Wale, lol. Now, it's on all the time. Honestly, I would love a version with just MC on the intro and combine Wale's two raps into one verse in the middle of the song before Mariah's ending choruses. That would be my perfect version of that song.

Start promoting YDKWTD (45,066)
by Jono from USA

Hey lambs. Mariah has listened to our demand for YDKWTD as a summer single, so now we have to do our part in promoting it. The easiest way is to call in to your local radio station and request the song, that way it can be reached to a greater audience. This song truly will stand out on the radio, and if Mariah and us fans do the right amount of promoting it could be a mega hit or another missed opportunity.

Re: what Gloria wrote (45,065)
by Dove from USA

|
Gloria, I think the fans on this site do accept her unconditionally. The reason I bring up her image is because it is certain that the general public does care. We want her to be the best she can be because more record sales mean more people hear her music and she makes more money. It's noble to think we work because we love what we do but most people work for something to do, to be creative, to achieve something, and for financial security, even rich folk. Otherwise, we would all just stay home and enjoy our kids and not work. If she's making incredible art and people don't buy it or appreciate it then she might stop making it, and I don't want that to ever happen. I want my great grandkids to know and love Mariah. If she doesn't want to tour then she could make a DVD concert, make it flawless, and sell it, but she needs to stay in the public eye to stay relevant. I think she does want to be as successful as she's always been. If she doesn't, and she's happy making art for herself and 58,000 most loyal fans, then she should tell us and we'll back off and just enjoy the music. Honestly, we're trying to help and it comes from a good place.

Yes the release date, combined with the bad publicity around Mariah, Tommy actively pulling strings to sabotage Mariah and Mariah's breakdown (or treatment for exhaustion whatever she chooses to call it), and a lot of other factors lead to the disastrous Glitter era. Otherwise it's a great album and I even enjoyed the movie. As for the glass breaking, those rumors are unconfirmed but even if it's true, I would think it's because she was basically super pissed in that era and she had many reasons to be pissed. And also like she said, she was overworked. So probably every time someone was like ok Mariah time for a shoot or interview she was probably like darn it *picks and throws a glass* lol. Ok last part is not serious.

Australian radio interviews (45,062)
by Gloria from Hong Kong

|
Did anyone listen to those two radio interviews? We got her humour, her lovely persona, her explanation on the new album, her sharing of dem babies' stories etc. No "arrogant" diva stunts or "unnatural" dresses (you won't see if she's wearing a fishtail or whatever while doing call-in interviews, good news). Mariah was sweet and joyful. Guess these are what people want from her, right? Plus the radio hosts were nice to her, definitely talking amiably. If this way is more convenient for a mother/chanteuse, then stick to it. I don't mind not seeing her glamorous outfits. At least she is out to promote the album. I feel like the Aussie lambs are more supportive and more willing to buy her music (according to the charts), rather than blaming Mariah on every issue like the feud on AI, the choice of artwork, her reaction to someone she has every reason to hate, the sales performance and more. In fact I don't see saying something mean making anything better except it implies that people refuse to listen to the music due to her image, which upsets me. I can't tell you what's the best for Mariah, but this is the time we lambs should support her; Otherwise I don't see the future. It took five years to complete the journey. It it didn't work, think might be ten years next time.

Best songs (45,060)

I only know 7 artists from that list. I feel old but I'm only 31. I know Ariana Grande because the kids watch her show. Problem is a good song but definitely not number 1. I'm not trying to hate on her but it seems like they're marketing her to be like 1995 Mariah during the Daydream era. Her hair and sound, Bambi eyes, make up. I read some controversy about Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga, that Lady Gaga was taking Christina's concepts and ideas and she stole Christina's fan base. When Christina's album came out everyone was saying she copied Lady Gaga. Christina had done it first but her album dropped after. It is true, Christina never sold like she used to again. I'm not into these artists but it's an interesting theory. It makes me think labels are cut throat and scares me that people will fall for anything.

YDKWTD single cover controversy (45,058)
by Dove from USA
| |
|
|
She does care, and could have chosen, but she probably trusted the label to choose a cover from the shoot. Maybe she did ask them to Photoshop the face looking forward and they did a shoddy job. She's a mom to young kids she wants to spend time with, she probably thought they couldn't mess it up. I don't care if they use Photoshop on pictures as long as it's done well. They Photoshop her to the point that she's almost unrecognizable. She's a beautiful woman, she doesn't need that much work done on her pics. I know we as fans are always hating on Tommy Motolla but during the time that he was in charge of her career everything was flawless and executed to magical perfection. The voice still sounds amazing on her CD's, and the songs are still good, but everything else is a mess. There are other passionate people out there, who will care, she needs to find them.
