Mariah's version (103,107) by Jamie from UK
I agree with you I just think sometimes people need to be ready within themselves to make a change. I don't think she doesn't care though, I personally think she's got more mental health issues than we understand, which might be stopping her from living a healthy life all the time. Let's be honest these stars don't live normal lives, they all go a bit crazy after a while. But [you're] right she needs people to tell her too, I'm sure she's well aware of the state of her voice right now, but definitely having someone else to tell her to get her stuff together might help hit home more. Who knows it's difficult to really know what's going on tbh. It's been clear since [Heartbreaker] remix video that something clearly changed in her persona and then the whole breakdown in 2001, she's never been the same Mariah since. We've had good moments but majority of the time she's come across as erratic and distracted, a far call from who she once was. So I think it's more her demons and mental health stopping her from fully getting herself together. And yes it's definitely better that she gets herself sorted than continue to embarrass herself with mediocre performances.

It became apparent to me today maybe MC's damaged to her voice is irreversible now because of her age and the vocal nodules have enlarged. Who knows maybe I am wrong? However, I feel Caution was probably her last album of new material.

When she was defrosting leading up to last Christmas, she had ample time to be ready for decent performances during the first few shows, but we saw how unprepared she was. How many wake up calls does she need? The gay pride performance was painful to watch. It seems to be she doesn't really care anymore, which is perfectly fine. I don't see anything wrong with her enjoying the time with her family and retire with dignity. I just don't want her to keep embarrassing herself during these random performances. While the "yass queen" fans love it when she embarrass herself like that, I, instead, feel bad for her and her impressive catalog. She needs real friends who don't lie to her to keep a paycheck coming.

I'd say it's a mixture of both, but deep down all famous people want to still be relevant that's why a lot of them go off the rails so to speak. Hopefully the last few performances have been a wake up call for her.

You think the version at the Garmmy Nomination was awful? And what do you mean it was prerecorded and lipped? You can clearly see on Mariah's face that she sings most of it live. Some parts are lipped, yes, but those eye brows movements she can never replicate when she is lip synching, it's live for the most part.

Mariah has to make decision in her life, to get healthier, work on her voice, if she really wants to impress people again. Or she can do whatever she's doing right now, and not being able to sing the easiest songs live, lip almost everything of every song.

I don't know if she is content with status quo, living the best life with her kids. I have a feeling ever since she was married with Tommy Mottola, that practicing, rehearsing has become something that only bring out bad memories, that she has simply quit doing it, because she was forced to while married. But come on, it's been 25 years, time to move on. I just can't fathom that a person who was once known as one the best singers in the world, with an unbelievable range, can be happy with not being able to sing a tune anymore. Or I'm wrong, maybe she's just over it.

The monstrosity that appeared on Apple's Magical Christmas. Although 2008 at the Grammy's was also awful, how I wish she'd be able to sing like that now. Even though it later transpired it was a re-recorded version she, of course, lipped to.

I'd say never rule her out. Yes her voice is what it was but at times with got hints of it back in better form. I think it's her own doing as in not looking after herself, drinking and smoking. Maybe if she was to pull out all the stops. Clean up and get some serious vocal coaching and medical expertise I'd like to think we could get better quality vocals. Maybe now she's focusing, she's lost a lot of weight recently so who knows she might be realising if she doesn't do something now then it's over.

I talked about the same many years ago, when Alanis Morissette re-released her debut album as an acoustic album. Sadly she didn't do it then. I really don't think she will able to do it now.

That Love Story acoustic performance is just beautiful, one of my faves, so short and sweet, forgot about it. Can you believe that was 15 years ago? That was a long time ago. I feel like a different person. Looking back now, an acoustic remake album would've been super cool. And she was still in her 30s. Now she's in her 50s. That's a big difference. Maybe her voice just wasn't meant to last. Maybe she's just enjoying her life and kids and hundreds of millions of dollars now. Personally I'm bored of the Christmas stuff. I loved Caution. I guess that was the last album. I'll go play it now. Never say never. Bye.

Are you referring to the Apple TV Plus or the Grammys Nomination performance remake? Either way, neither one compares to the flawless original.

Had she sung it live, it would've been fine with me The fact that was the best she could do in the studio, It's very telling. I hadn't ever watched it before you mentioned it. I wish I hadn't.

I don't think I can forgive her for that hideous remake of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)". What was she thinking? The 1994 version is faultless.

Robert, I don't know if you have noticed, but Mariah is struggling even in her whisper register. I know her whisper register is not an easy one to tackle, but she's been struggling in all the facets of her voice. When you see an artist dodging notes, relying heavily on their backup singers, pre-recorded tracks, and expecting the audience to sing for them those notes they can't, it is a signal that something is deeply wrong. She's had an amazing career and she'll always have Christmas, but the Mariah we knew, yes, that Mariah post prime, is also gone. I've always thought she could get better should she discipline herself and put in the work, but that's up to her. I'm looking forward to Christmas now. She's the queen. Hopefully next year she'll surprise us all.

Edward, are you saying MC's career over? She can lower the key to fit her current voice. I wish she would collaborate more with Nashville producers like Tedd T and David Garcia who probably could help her craft different versions of her catalogue or just a new song with her current voice.

Mariah is definitely not in a good place vocally to accomplish what Taylor is doing while she's still super popular. She should've done something like that back in 2010-2013, but I guess that ship has sailed. This is just beautiful. Had she re-worked some of her hits around this time, she would've come out a winner. Sadly, Mariah can't sing two words straight these days. It is sad, but evidenced by her last performance, it is true.

Taylor Swift just recently released Speak Now Taylor's Version. She is definitely a business woman. I wish MC would re-record more of her most famous songs and her favorites that didn't get much love on the radio or albums. She could do it with the right producer.

Happy 30th anniversary to Dreamlover (103,088) by Bobby A from United States
Was it groundbreaking because of the iconic percussion intro and the almost 1 minute and half dance beat before MC starts singing? Who else was doing what he was doing back in the early 90s? David Morales started the industry to giving club remixes a specific name instead of just calling them the extended version like they were doing in the late 80s.

Charmbracelet tour (103,085) by Jamie from UK
Just watching the Charmbracelet tour, I was lucky enough to go to this twice. I remember how great her voice was and watching it back now it's amazing how relaxed she is, considering it wasn't long after the breakdown she has more confidence there than I think she does now, her voice was in good shape and she appeared relaxed and in control. Maybe she was compliant with her meds then having been newly diagnosed who knows but hopefully she can get back to this.

Happy 30th anniversary to Dreamlover (103,084) by MC1989 from Spain
Though I always liked the song, and the stunningly beautiful young and carefree Curlyriah in the video, it was never one of my favourite tracks, but It sure grew on me over the years. I love the sample from The Emotions' Blind Alley, combined with Mariah's voice at her peak, and the single cover which I still have and still is one of my favourite pictures from her. The Def Club Mix was and still is one of her best remixes in my opinion. I remember hearing the song in the radio here in Spain even until the early 00's.
