Looks like same ol' same ol' (39,339)
by Trish from USA

I had high expectations for the new album, but with each new picture of Mariah in the studio my hopes are fading. I'm not opposed to a few collaborations or remixes with rap verses, but I was really hoping we'd get an album with a good chunk of songs co-written with Walter Afanasieff and maybe some more work with Marc Shaiman. I wish Mariah all the chart success in the world, but it'd be wonderful to have some truly meaningful classics that I'll still listen to in 10-20 years. There have also been some successful ballads out lately (Stay, When I Was Your Man) that Mariah could blow out of the water.

MC and Nas (39,338)
by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC

Now I can't wait to hear this song. TGIFY remix has always been one of my favorite MC remixes. To be honest, I can't wait to hear this album. The suspense is killing me. A four year wait is the longest we have waited for a MC album and something tells me that the wait is well worth it. Bring it on home MC, we are impatiently waiting. Well at least I am.

I believe it would be great if Mariah reduced her whispering on this album. I don't mean stopping it. It's magic and the best from every other singer I heard, but when it's used too much it gives me the feeling that she can't use her rest range, not due to vocal problems, but because she doesn't like to belt and uses her full potential. In many songs, not all, since mostly 2002, I almost get bored in 75% of the song and suddenly at its climax I'm like "...". And then the song finishes and I find myself yet happy but sort of wanting more, some more verses with full voice. This doesn't happen constantly, but unfortunately for me at high frequency. But I know she is human, she can't satisfy everyone. She stays true to what she likes. I'm just saying. Last but not least I kinda miss her vocal showcase of low notes ascending to high ones and vice versa that she did specially in her first two albums ("You're so cold" intro, "Alone in love" etc.). It's like doing warm ups but using them in songs too, not only before singing. I think it would also help in further warming her voice preserve and showcase it propperly during concerts. It's just a thought I wanted to share. After what her husband said that she refell in love with her first two albums, I think it's possible. I'm also glad that she collaborates with Nas again. It will be [...].

I 100% agree. I'm a bit tired of these meaningless songs that have no depth to them. Adele is probably the closest the music industry has gotten to a really moving, successful ballad recently. I hope Mariah can knock it (and the world) out the park with a moving ballad soon!

I couldn't agree more. P!nk's "Just Give Me A Reason" is the only #1 Hot 100 song that really hooked me up this year. All the songs that went up to the top didn't make sense anymore. I think Mariah doesn't need another inspirational ballad yet. She just had "Almost Home", yes the song was good but with less promotion, it will stall. IMO, she just has to do a powerful love song with a very good and deep meaning that will touch the hearts of many. Overproduction and synthesizers, artificial band can also kill so she just has to stick with the piano, violins and drums.

Matt Summers / ballandes (39,332)
by Joanna from Poland
| |
|
|
Matt, I concur with you when it comes to that matter. I'm sure that in a moment someone here will post that nobody listens to ballandes any more, but I think it's not true. I listen to ballandes everyday and so do all my friends. Of course, we listen to old ballandes as in current music industry the new ones are few and far between. I am not stating that Mariah should fill her all album with ballandes and inspirational songs, but I believe balance is good, and a good album should be diverse. There is a hot debate that Mariah's voice has changed, but her lyrics has changed as well. I love Mariah's fun and laidback songs, but I miss songs like Close My Eyes, Petals, Outside, I Am Free regarding lyrics. I know changes are inevitable, and I still love and support her and looking forward to the new album.

Ballad feedback (39,331)
by OGmattyICE from US
| |

|
In my frame of mind, I believe the world is desperate for an inspiring ballad in the music industry. What I have noticed in 2013 is that most of the songs are either about sex ("Blurred lines"), swag ("We can't stop") or other songs that display trying to be "cool" or "popular". I think especially for kids these days they (society) is so unsure of themselves or insecure. I think people need a moving, gut-wrenching, powerful ballad to remind people of the good things in life and remind people there is still hope and for people to not lose their faith. If I had to choose anyone to record and produce such a powerful ballad with such caliber, I would choose none other than Mariah Carey. I keep watching videos of "Hero" and think that the music industry and society as a whole is severely lacking a ballad like "Hero" in 2013. If Mariah can make a killer ballad, critics will praise it and the song will hopefully get astronomical success. What are your thoughts or opinions? Thanks for reading.

I listened to both those songs just now, I never heard of them artists before. I Wish You Loved Me has very similar piano arrangement to We Belong Together and she sings a verse in the first course that reminded me of "I want you to cores me like a tropical breeze" in TMB. I think it's deliberate to try make her a star by mimicking Mimi. I'm struggling to find any comparisons with the other track aside from her being a female singer lol. Good to hear new music though.

Mariah Carey's vocal style and influence (39,329)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Ariana Grande, Tynisha Keli and Tori Kelly, though the latter two not that well known yet, are a clearcut example of just how much Mariah's singing and vocal style has heavily influenced the younger generation. Tynisha's "I Wish You Loved Me" and Tori's "Dear No One" have Mariah written all over them. I was pleasantly suprised. From the songs' arrangements to the vocal layering and background vocals, listening to them is definately a throwback to a classic Mariah Carey track. Wish you guys check them out and tell me what you think. Though i should fore warn you that they aren't big voiced singers like Mariah though, she's one of a kind in that department. Lol.

Re: Kelly Price (39,328)

I'm really not that familiar with her, I knew she went on to do her own thing and that's about it. Mariah doesn't seem to have a problem with Trey Lorenz "doing his own thing" and putting out albums, she's even promoted him on her own tours. Also, writing and producing songs for him. I do recall seeing the Price sisters on her Thanksgiving special, I believe it was them, Mariah gave them some time to shine. Most artists don't bring their backup to the center of the stage to sing. (What happened to her sister?) I have a hard time believing Mariah's upset that Kelly has her own success, but I'm kinda wondering how Kelly ended it. We all know how talented Mariah expects her back up to be, finding a replacement would be difficult, especially if Kelly didn't give her any prior notice. I could see MC freaking over that, especially if there was an event coming up where she needed her. Did anyone else pick up on how MC usually had back up singers in 90% of all vocal performances in the '90's, but in the 2000's that back up has become the back track? I've always wondered: is it the expense? Or the dependability?

#1s Tour (39,327)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I think after this era, Sony and Universal should come together re-release Mariah Carey #1s with Heartbreaker, TGIFY, WBT, DFAU, and TMB. It would be an nineteen track CD complete with one new song. Then she could go on a world wide tour to promote herself as being the solo artist with the most #1s. If she committed to singing all eighteen songs in every concert, I think that tour would have the potential of selling out very quickly. Then she could fade away into the sunset and raise her children, knowing that she did everything she possibly could to cement her legacy.

Mariah should wait (39,326)
by T from USA

I like all the people she's collaborating with in the studio these days, but I do think she should wait until the top of 2014 to release her album. Right now the public is focused on Miley, Gaga and Katy Perry. I'm still hoping for a Mariah/Walter A song or two to really separate her from what everyone else is doing right now.

Mariah Carey Greatest Hits (with re-sung vocals) (39,325)
by Benedick Castillo from Philippines
| |
|
|
A few years ago, I wished for a greatest hits album from Mariah with brand new vocals. I am still wishing for that to happen and I hope it is possible. It is like the #1's album but this time with re-sung vocals and, of course, at least 4 new tracks which she's to release to promote the album. She had a re-sung Hero in 2009. And I love the touch of R&B in that record. I can't imagine what amazing things she could do for rarely sung and performed Someday, I Don't Wanna Cry and Can't Let Go. Also for Fantasy, Dreamlover, Always Be My Baby, Emotions, Honey and Heartbreaker. Same thing for Make it Happen, Without You, Anytime You Need a Friend and One Sweet Day. Her changed voice will surely make a big difference and that will make these songs more special and untouchable. I like the way Fantasy was sung in her The Adventures Of Mimi concert. I hope there's a recorded one for that in CD. I hope Mimi does this soon.

Mariah / promotion (39,324)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I think Mariah has to come to the realization that her name only won't do in terms of promoting her new music. It is sad to say it, but if she wants to have a hit, she is going to have to work for it as if she were a new artist. Just putting a single out there with a basic video won't help. Streaming is part of the success formula of any song out there, so now is the time for Mariah to put out concept videos like Honey, Heartbreaker or Butterfly. Many people in the music industry don't like Mariah. She won't be able to ride on just her name alone. I hope she gets ready to promote the next single hard even if she has to have dem babies, dem nanny and Nick singing backup for her. All remixes should be ready as well. Last minute singles or remixes didn't work for her. Having everything ready this time around would allow her time to concentrate on promoting and touring. Mariah produced a good album while on a risky pregnancy, so the excuse that she now has a family is just another excuse for me.

I think you're right, she is quite superstitious and that video won't see the light of day. If I'm being honest, I'm not that bothered, as she should have left promoting the remix alone. The song died a long time before the remix dropped. Hopefully, we will get to hear more new material soon. I think Mariah will include #Beautiful on the album simply because it's been her only hit since 2009.

Mariah's voice live/on albums (39,321)
by lil star from untied states
| |
|
|
On the subject of Mariah's voice, I think if she would accept that her voice has changed over the years (not hating on her voice, I still think it's amazing and she can sing most singers under the table), then she would do much better live. She should change the songs up maybe do a jazz version of "Vision of Love". The thing is Mariah always trys to sing the songs the same way she did years ago. The fact of the matter is while her voice is still amazing, it's not the same as it was then and if she would change it up to the voice she has now, she could do them fully live all the time. No other singer sings there early music the same and they change them up, but I know Mariah is a perfectionist, so she wants it to sound perfect as if it were played on the record.

Dream Mariah collabos by Victor (39,320)

I can't believe you would put 10 spots in front of Steve Perry from Journey. If Mariah did a ballad with Steve Perry, I would strip bare naked and run in the street yelling, that's how epic that collabo would be with both in their prime.

Kelly Price tweet (39,319)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
@Obscure Opulence. Considering that Whitney attended Kelly's pre-Grammy party before her death, that would be a solid no. There seems to be a falling out between MC and KP as Kelly threw some shade at her on that LA Divas show when describing Chante Moore's whistle register. "She started hitting those high notes, you know, those notes that people seem to think that only Mariah Carey can do." When Wendy Williams asked her how her discontinuing working with Mariah went, Kelly said Mariah wasn't ready to let her go and then went on to say that was all she was going to discuss on that topic. Regarding the tweet, some say she may have been talking about Christina Aguilera who performed on some award show. Who knows, but what I do know is that something went wrong between the both of them. Kelly has grown an ugly ego and stated that some people did not like that she was now their equal/peer in the business but neglected to say who.

I totally agree. Mariah is a living legend. Her duet with Whitney was one of the things I wished for. Here are my additions to your list: 1. A real duet with Babyface 2. With Toni Braxton 3. With Shania Twain 4. With Lionel Ritchie 5. With Barbra Streisand 6. With Jessica Simpson

Kelly Price controversy (39,317)

I was always curious if MC was the intended victim or target on KP's tweet. The only other person I could thi k of that KP was talking about if she wasn't referring to MC, is that maybe KP was talking about Whitney Houston perhaps? I wish KP would be 100% honest with herself and with others for change but for now it is what it is.

Mariah and family life (39,315)
by Manny from U.S.

I just saw the pic of Mariah, Nick and the tots having Sunday dinner. Also the clip of Nick on Ellen. It makes me happy to see her enjoying her bundles of joy. It seemed that she always wanted a stable family as opposed to what she says about her childhood. For a while it seemed like she wouldn't have children. Now, she found a new level of happiness that fame and fortune cannot bring. It's the most precious thing.

Dreaming about Mariah collaborations (39,314)
by Victor from Costa Rica
| |
|
|
Hello everybody. I'm in love with Mariah's voice since the first time I heard it. And I have always fantasized about these possible duos or collaborations: 1. Mariah Carey and Michael Bolton: In my opinion best female and male voices ever. Besides both were huge during the 90's, when singers were truly gifted and amazing vocalists. 2. Mariah Carey and Celine Dion: The only two divas left in this world. 3. Mariah Carey and Laura Pauisini: A great combination of culture. Both are very passionate. 4. Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff: Both made Mariah's best work and I guess we all miss this kind of magic they used to create. 5. Mariah Carey and Bryan Adams: A pop-rock ballad between them would be a huge success. 6. Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera: That could be epic. Like Mariah sharing and accepting new generations inspired by her. 7. Mariah Carey and Josh Groban: Amazing voices exploding our senses. 8. Mariah Carey and Elvis Presley: Could you imagine that? Fusing two legends and icons. 9. Mariah Carey and Ricky Martin: I visualize this duo singing a latin rhythm. Pure energy making us vibrating. 10. Mariah Carey and her fans: She should record a song with a live audience singing the chorus (of course it would have to be rehearsed first). What do you think about it? Are we sharing same expectations? I would like to hear Mariah sing with someone that could match her vocal range and stardom.
