Longest break (38,781)

The break between Emancipation of Mimi and E=MC2 was almost exactly three years. April 2005 to April 2008.

We'll have to agree to disagree on #Beautiful, but Triumphant was rubbish. The point I'm making is that it's taking longer to put out this album because her creative freedom has been compromised. You're right, if creative freedom means songs like Triumphant, then it may not be a good thing, but you know what, if that's what Mariah wants to do, then people should let her. As far as I'm concerned, if she wants to still hang onto the whole "I'm a 27 year old, who started the hip pop thing, and I still want to look relevant" vibe, then she should go ahead and do it. Her recording career will be as good as over, but by all means, if that's who she is, then do it. The chances of Mariah trying a jazz or acoustic album, or something that marks a creative change of direction, is highly unlikely at this moment in her career. Furthermore, Mariah may have had LA's help for TEOM, but for E=MC2 and Memoirs, he did a terrible job. The thing with Mariah though, and she proved this under Tommy, is she can turn her hand to writing anything. If she wants to write a certain style of music or song, she has the musicality to do it. Despite all the negativity, and even my criticism of Mariah, I know she can produce the goods, and am hopeful for this album. I just want to hear what direction she's going in.

Album wait (38,779)
by KeShawn Taylor from United States
| |
|
|
While I, like the rest of us, am waiting patiently or not for The Art Of Letting Go, I understand the end goal. Mariah has truly nothing else to prove to critics and fans in her amazing, legendary career. I find it a blessing that this year we have been blessed with good quality music for the first time in years from artist like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke, and Mariah. It has truly been a great year of music thus far. Though it never cracked the top ten, #Beautiful is well on its way to be certified Platinum, and has become Mariah's biggest hit since "Obsessed". Mariah is a perfectionist and with all of the other high profile female albums dropping this year, I feel she knows she needs to set the pace and a standard for excellence. Lets keep in mind that there is still some surprise, likely the remix video, coming today. And the tour kicks off in October. That leaves a time frame for the album to be completed which will likely preceed with a new single. It'll be well worth the wait I'm sure, we just have to continue waiting.

The period between Charmbracelet and TEOM (from December 2002 to April 2005) was 2 years and 4 months. Merry Christmas II You was released November 2010, which was 2 years and 8 months ago. Now before you all start with the "she has a family", I know all the reasons for the delay. Will, I agree that MC has put out a few duds (Triumphant was awful, #Beautiful bores me to tears and is nowhere near the lyrical ability of her best love songs). So I'm just going to console myself with her past records. I just wanted to change the direction of the conversation on this board. Wouldn't it be cool if she didn't have to worry about selling records or breaking records anymore and just could make the music she wanted to? Or is her creative freedom how we got Triumphant? Does she need others to step in (like LA Reid did for TEOM)?

I agree, it would be nice to actually have a new album ready. Although, I suspect Mariah has gone back to the drawing board yet again, and started from scratch. I don't think IDJ will invest any money into a Mariah project unless they are completely happy with the music. At this point in her career, I find it annoying that a label is dictating the creative direction for someone as big as Mariah. However, I understand the need for both parties to be happy with the final product. Personally, I am just looking forward to new music, and agree with other fans who have commented on the quality of Mariah's artistry, which is amazing. I think for every miss like Triumphant, there are many other gems that Mariah can produce. I look forward to an album in the vein of #Beautiful, which has old school and modern Mariah mixed into one. A nice fusion between the two, if you ask me.

Where's the album? (38,775)
by Randy from USA

While everyone is talking about live performances, deterioration of the voice and what not, has anyone else noticed we're in the longest period between albums? And I know you guys will give me the excuse "she's making sure it's quality". MC has given us a lot of quality albums in a lot less time. Of course she's not wonder woman and her priorities are different, but I could care less about promotion. I want the music. Like she said during Glitter, making music wasn't what made her exhausted, it was the politics, traveling and promotion. I need a MC fix. Sigh. Oh well, of course she does have thirteen other studio albums I could listen to.

Brad Catoe, I agree with you (38,774)

One thing about Mariah, she is beyond predictable. Just when the whole world thought that she's over after Glitter, there she was with The Emancipation Of Mimi, stronger than ever. No matter how people or fans condemn her voice and whatnot, I trully believe that inside Mariah there is a distinguished artistry and to that we believe. #Beautiful is already creating the music buzz by the Motown infusion. Though many people try to sabotage Mariah's career, she will only fly higher because that thing inside her, it's irreplaceable. I love you Mariah. We, fans, let's stick together.

I mentioned this before in a post, but I really hate reading the constant criticisms as well. I understand that everyone has their opinion, but it just gets old after awhile. I am so excited for the new album and honesty, Mariah's recent performances have been really amazing, which I think think is a sign that the new album s going to be exceptional. #Beautiful is on of my favorite Mimi pop songs and I can't wait to hear more. Although I wont be hearing anything new this Tuesday lol.

Mariah's artistry (38,771)
by Fahmi Mustaffa from Malaysia
| |
|
|
It's hard to survive throughout this life and everytime my life was failing I turned to Mariah. her "Through the Rain" and "Can't take that away" is my anthem, but now I am so disappointed the way we treat Mariah, by constantly diminishing her voice. Nothing stays the same. It's her artistry that we should look upon. We lambs gotta stick together and bring the queen back to her throne. If she can create a majestic comeback in The Emancipation Of Mimi, I am sure that her new The Art Of Letting Go is a new era for Mariah. Mariah is all about diversification and that's her secret of continuing career. We, fans, gotta stick through thick and thin with her.

I just saw the backstage footage of the performance for the New York Philharmonic. Mariah asks Monroe to "pose like mommy". Monroe does an impression of Mariah. I thought it was so funny and cute. I am happy Mariah is blessed with her twins. Several years back she sounded uncertain about having children, now she is enjoying her bundles of joy.

Thanks for all your sympathy by posting a reply. To some degree I agree to what you all said, but at this point of our girl's career, I strongly believe that she's still capable of accomplishing such feat, unless Brandon is right that radio people and big people behind the music industry are viciously manipulating things to make it happen. But even so, if MC will get a right single or album at a right time that will cement her already proven capabilities as an artist, we, her fans, can make it happen and probably gain back those used to be fans and gain new ones like what TEOM has accomplished. Just staying positive and have faith.

Radio programmers don't want to see MC score another #1, they were livid when she tied/broke The King's record and they sure as h*ll don't want her surpassing the Beatles. #Beautiful was a great song/single, but she's going to need an undeniable smash that they have to play. That's probably why she postponed the album. She still has the talent, voice, and looks to do so.

Remove the voice and the artist is there (38,762)
by jaker20 from US

The reason why I'm not so disappointed with the changes in MC's voice is because beyond her voice, I personally consider MC a pop genius. Very very few artists creates pop music like MC that spans generation. The only ones I consider up her league is Madonna, Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. Not even Elvis Presley, who's style has aged by his third decade in the industry. Being able to tap in to pop music audience for such a long period of time takes more than the voice. That's genuine creative talent. I do not understand why MC don't get more credit with this from her very fans. They just want her to belt forever. Beautiful is about to turn platinum. And I hope the next single is similar to Beautiful, midtempo pop with no vocal acrobatics. I honestly think MC is a rare pop genius. If MC can replicate Beautiful's success with the next single, I think there's going to be a lot of talk about this subject. This fact will be more apparent. If it fails, I know she can still create more great music in the future. If only more fans understand this than continually asking her to go back in time and sing like she use to. Demanding some sort of explanation about her voice is a step towards asking her to retire. Don't spoil it for us who still love her. If you're only after her voice, then move forward somewhere else. It's really simple. Don't demand her the impossible, because those days are over. Accept her for what she is now because she can't be someone else.

We are family (38,761)

I have noticed a lot of negativity here lately, what gives? I understand we may not always agree on things when it comes to choices regarding Mariah, but that does not mean we should throw insults at one another or question ones loyalty to MC. I feel we should appreciate that we have a place where we are allowed to express our feelings and or opinions. We are a family divided and we need to get back on track. Enjoy your day my Archives family.

I completely agree with you. Mariah's voice has changed. Everybody knows that's been the case for 15 years. Nobody stays the same for 23 years. No one. But people seem to be trapped in 90s. That's been the drama here over the last few years, and for a few posters for the past few weeks, non-stop. That's fine with me. I understand. But some takes further and takes against MC as if she owes people an explanation, turn her into a product just like every other product, call her a fraud because of her ego, etc. etc. How silly. I'm not the only one who notice this. Many others did as well. I take issue with this. If you post such strong opinions, then you should be ready what's coming. I have opinions too and they're just as strong. That statement was not taken out of context like someone is backpedal claiming. All the posts are right there for everyone to see. Had I not posted a direct challenge, that line of discussion would have gone on and on. This is not personal, that is a challenge to your statement. MC sings less live, she releases albums twice longer, and don't belt like she use to. Why is this so difficult to understand? She is not the same, like everyone else. Even you and me. I hope MC makes an all dance music one day, because I want to see who will stick with her. Because I will. MC to me is beyond The Voice, such silly label. She's an artist. I maybe one of the very few, and I'm ok with that.

Stephen / PJW / Eric (38,758)

It is wonderful to see people behave so respectfully towards each other. PJW's message was always going to rattle a few cages, but it was an intelligent and noteworthy observation he made, and some of the responses he received were completely unwarranted. Stephen, couldn't have put it better myself. Eric, love the new look and the encouragement of different views here. This has long been my only Mariah reference point - as I have grown up I find I only have time to really check one site these days (it's all you need for news, info and discussions), long may it continue. Always appreciate your efforts and I don't take this site for granted. Thanks for everything over the years.

I think that chance has been and gone. It may hang around the mid- to low-twenties for maybe a couple of weeks, but I don't think it will go into the top 10, unless Billboard have missed a whole chunk of sales that for whatever reason have not been counted. It could well have been a top 10 had the album been indeed released in four days, as originally planned, but alas, it will never be. Next single and hopefully the album will be released soon, and not this gut-wrenching rumour that it will be released in November. Note the word "rumour". But a small congratulations is on hand for #Beautiful, for remaining quite consistent in the UK charts. For a good 9 weeks, it remained in the top 20 without much/any promo, maybe shifting up one/a few more than one slots in the chart, reaching I think 21 (?). It has only just begun to descend down through the charts. That for me, is a sure sign that this was a hit single.

Lets move on please, Deedre's topic (38,756)
by Joe from United Kingdom

Ok so PJW made his point while some (me) did'nt agree with everything said and some did he made some valid points. While he may have been abit blunt in his delivery (it's a UK thing) and didn't sugar coat everything, people are allowed to give opinions good or bad, let it be. Onto a lighter topic which Deedre started. What is your favourite funny Mariah moment? There are so many, but one that did make me laugh was when she was on a Korean show called "Yoo hoo yeol's sketchbook". A girl in the audience spoke to Mariah and quoted her songs: "Mariah you are my all, my honey" and then she started to serenade her with Minnie Riperton's "Loving you". Although Mariah didn't say much, it was funny to see her reaction or lack of reaction I should say.
