Hi Edward. It seems that you have been in many of Mariah's concerts and video shoots in NYC. I was wondering if you live in New York. I do. I live in Manhattan. I have been here for 5 years but I have never met any lambs. It would be nice to meet some and go to these events together. If there are other MC lambs in NYC don't hesitate to contact me. I will gladly share my email with you guys.

BET / hospital scene (38,650)
by Brad from USA
| |
|
|
Hi lambs. I think that the president of BET was saying that originally MC was going to perform a totally different song (not #Beautiful). However, the Jeezy remix had just been finished the night before the BET performance and Mariah decided to perform this remix at the last minute. Not sure I quite buy that she was out of sync because the mic had been cut off. At any rate, we all wish MC nothing but the best and quick healing. Her sarcasm as she is rolled out of the Hospital for Special Surgery (the best hospital around, btw) was classic. May she use it all to summon an epic voice for the Sandy benefit performance. Be well to yourselves and others.

Well, it turns out that Mariah was going to premiere a brand new song that had just been finished, but it was decided that the #Beautiful remix should be performed instead last minute. Lol, I think even she's trying to move onto a new song. I really hope she does the new song for the concert tomorrow. If not, expect another "Hero" performance lambs.

Miguelito is not as tall as Mariah on stilettos (38,648)
by Edward from USA
| |

Mariah is 5"9' and she's always on stilettos which would put her at 6"1'. Miguel is not that tall, so Mariah would look like a giant next to him. Miguel isn't a muscle man either. Tv is all about visuals. I was a Beacon theater when Mariah sang with John Legend, and even though many of us were waiting for more than five hours, they rearranged the first four rows leaving only nice looking white people and a few tokens in those first rows. The rest were moved to the back.

You took it right out of my mouth. During my lunch break I was just thinking how I'm reading that it's possibly due to her being taller then him and sure enough... let's go back to that summer jam concert. They both stood and it looked so much better then her lounging on a hay stack. I was also thinking the same thing as you, they could've both sat on the hay stack and had fun and maybe make it like an "I'll be there" performance and just have fun together. Sitting on stools would've worked well too. That was all I was really trying to say.

Lounging (38,646)
by Matthew from USA

Perhaps MC is trying to be considerate by lounging while Miguel hovers over her. But you all can't deny it looks hella awkward. Lol. Anyway, I've always thought the natural solution would be for them to both sit facing each other and singing to each other. Their most connected performance was at the summer jam, and they were both standing for that. But that was Miguel's show. When MC is in control, she is pushing the diva dahling image thing. I don't think she is intentionally being inconsiderate. She probably isn't even aware of it. But I wish they would connect more in the performances. And maybe if they could both sit on stools and face each other for an acoustic performance, that might happen. Even the videos are a bit disconnected. MC is all pose, face, twirl, pose, face, pose, pose. And then there are shots of Miguel thrown in for good measure because he is also in the song. But hey, that's part of why we love her. The girl is a ham. All she needs is a wind machine and a camera and she's ready to go. I do wish she would go for a more stripped down natural beauty for the video, because that's the kind of beautiful the song is talking about. And MC is one of the few women in the business who could pull off natural beauty (Always Be My Baby video, Dreamlover), so I'm not sure why she insists on making every moment glam pow lately. The new remix video is probably going to have more diva moments.

Slipping Away (38,645)

I love this track, right from the first listen. I always thought its removal from Daydream was because of it's subject matter. To me, the song is about Mariah and Tommy's failing marriage, so maybe he felt it hit a little too close to home?

Agreement (38,644)

I fail to see what's tacky or annoying about MC lounging on stacks of hay (or sitting) during the #Beautiful performances either. I also speculated that the major height difference was the motivation. Even in the video she's wasn't towering over him. Notice how she was on back of the bike and then like 100 feet away during the car scenes. So I'm in agreement with it being her way of being considerate of her duet partner vertical challenge.

Mariah is a diva and all that, but she is known for being thoughtful. I'm sure her lounging position has to do with their difference in height. As far as video budgets are concerned, I'm sure Mariah prefers to keep her fortune intact rather than spend it on commercials for singles in the era of digital sales. That's my two cents on it for what its worth.

Mariah's videos (38,642)
by Badr from USA

I agree with some people here. Mariah has made many stunning videos: Honey, Heartbreaker, Through The Rain, It's Like That, The Roof, Butterfly, Fantasy, Vision Of Love, Sweetheart, Say Somethin', Obsessed, Touch My Body, Shake It Off, etc. In regards to Nick directing her videos, I've always thought he shouldn't mess with her career. I think he has also become some sort of unofficial spokesperson. Well, back to the videos, the "I Stay In Love" video is awful. To be fair, I recognize he did a really good job with "Angels Cry", and "Triumphant" wasn't bad either. In my opinion, the worst videos she's done are "Someday", "Can't Let Go", "I'll Be Lovin' you", "I Want To Know What Love Is" and "H.A.T.E.U." I've come to enjoy the simplicity of "#Beautiful", and it's become one of my favorite ones, despite my initial reaction. I hope she gets better soon. Her hard work has paid off as "#Beautiful" might be certified platinum in the US very soon.

Stacey, angels cry bliss (38,641)

Isn't it great when that happens? That same song did that to me last year. I always enjoyed it, but one day I randomly played it on Vevo and something just clicked and I had to repeat it like 5 times in a row. The song I recently rediscovered was Bliss. I very rarely listen to Rainbow, almost never, but I listened to it off the Playlist cd and I was really digging it.

Too R&B (38,640)
by enwar00 from usa

I have to somewhat disagree that Mariah came out as like this pure pop artist. She was just really popular. I feel like right from the debut she was singing r&b or r&b flavored songs. They were almost all #1 hits on the r&b charts too. Although that first album did have variety, she even rapped on it lol. Same with Emotions and Unplugged, like the song If It's Over. I do agree though that with Music Box they pushed for a more poppy sound, for lack of a better word, with more ballads and adult contemporary. And that made her even more popular, especially internationally. So I don't know why they wouldn't put Slipping Away on Daydream because it was too r&b, because like Stacey said, so are a lot of songs on there. Maybe the beat was too hip hop lol. Maybe they didn't want thirteen songs because of superstition. Maybe Mariah didn't think it was good enough. Don't we just love it though?

Mariah and Miguel's live performance (38,639)
by Hana from UK

People, people. Mariah is sitting down, so she doesn't tower over Miguel, who if you look properly is really short for a guy. I'm guessing they are trying to avoid humiliation. On another note, can't Mariah afford higher budget videos? Isn't she supposed to be uh... loaded?

Hey Stacey, great view and you know I just thought about your response and it makes me think back to the "illuminati" situation. Mariah has said herself and I want to say a time frame but I know it was shortly either after Glitter or Charmbracelet era. That the company itself is run by very powerful men and you will only succeed if you agree with their terms and if you don't they have a way to be able to make you not succeed. I think now that i know a little bit more about the illuminati and seeing how common it is becoming I'm hoping Mariah doesn't get into that, because I personally feel she doesn't have to sell out in order to retain "fame". Rhianna is mentioned a lot on here by a lot of members, where I've read that the record label is only focusing on her. If you look further into it, you see that she is part of the "illuminati" and becoming their product/puppet. She sold out and now she has fame. I really do believe all this fame these artist get eventually lose all moral. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a nice Wednesday.

Brandon / Gilbert / videos considered as events (38,636)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Brandon, it is true that Mariah's had some great videos that could be considered as being events, but for each one you mentioned, I can mention three that would prove otherwise. Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, There's Got To Be A Way, Someday, I'll Be There, Emotions, Can't Let Go, One Sweet Day, Always Be My Baby, Fantasy, Dreamlover, Hero, Without You, Anytime You Need A Friend, and the list goes on, so I agree with Giselle. Gilbert, remember that Mariah came out as a pop artist, and Tommy didn't want her to branch out from that even when she wanted to try other things. Even though Daydream was a pop album with a splash of R&B, they didn't want to alienate the pop fan base she had amassed up to that point. Slipping Away is an R&B record, Daydream was more pop. Everything Fades Away was a great R&B song, but Music Box was pure Pop. Too R&B just means that compared to the rest of the pop songs on the record, it wouldn't have had a contrasted cohesively.

MC going to "R&B" has its roots all the way back to Everything Fades Away and Do You Think Of Me, B-sides not being placed on the USA edition of Music Box. Sony wanted her to maintain a certain appearance and MC was pushing against that. It's why they fought her on the ODB addition to Fantasy. It's very possible that's why they didn't want the song on the album, which is funny because the songs they did include on Daydream are very R&B to begin with. I personally love Slipping Away. It has such an infectious beat and her vocals sound amazing. Another song I've rediscovered is from an album I mostly dislike: Angels Cry. What a great song with amazing vocals.

I was just reading way back on unreleased tracks and maybe someone can give me a better understanding of what "too r&b" actually means? I've read somewhere that was the reason it wasn't placed into the Daydream album. Anyone have a better explanation for me?

Hi Matthew, you brought up a good point and I'm not doing this to be negative at all, but I did feel that poor Miguel has to stand over her and make her feel like she is the queen. I mean, we all love Mariah and I think that's great, but I did feel that performance on the 4th of July where she just laid down on the hay was very tacky. Her legs weren't broken to where she couldnt stand and sing with him at least on some part of the performance. I kid you not when I seen it I thought, well is Mariah going to get her butt up to sing or is she gonna just have Miguel stand and feel like she being idol-ed. Come on, I mean I really hope some fans agree that it was a bit tacky for her to just lay there while Miguel was standing.

Well MC is definitely a trooper, but I think Miguel needs to get credit too. I'm not sure he knew what he was in for when he signed up to work with our girl. But he's been through two video shoots already, was asked to redo his vocals in Spanish, then had to go do yet another video for another remix. That's on top of having to awkwardly stand over MC while she lounges away during their promotional performances and the fact that he was relegated to a featured artist when the song is honestly a duet. Poor Miguel. lol. But on the other hand, he can't complain too much. This is great promotion for him as well. And he is working with a living legend. Still, I'm pretty sure in the back of his mind he's thinking that this chick better not do another damn remix.

I think Island put a little money into the original video and the explicit version. But, Island doesn't put a lot of money into Mariah anymore, they save it for Rihanna and Justin. Having Nick do it is cheap for her and her management. I pray Mariah is resting and better. Mariah [...], I'm sure they gave you pain pills.

I know this is more of a complaint, but why Nick? I mean, his videos are pretty wack and he's just taking her down with him. I was reading past reviews and I'd go for a new form of Fantasy, Honey, Breakdown, My All, Dreamlover, I Still Believe, Don't Forget About Us, We Belong Together. I can respect the fact that they are married and he is her husband, but I still feel they need to keep that type of business separate. That's just me, but it was just my two cents.
