Don't kill my vibe (37,973) by Geronimo from USA
Be intelligent and responsible. Make a distinction between lip-syncing and network dubbing and then get on with life. And stop killing the vibe on this board whining about what you, of all people, think Mariah Carey should be doing or sounding like at this point in her career. If you are still upset because you think, despite all evidence and eye witness reports, that Mariah Carey cannot sing anymore and cannot give an honest performance, you are not a serious person and should be quiet for a while until you can bring more intelligent conversation. Mariah Carey is a recording artist and a decent performer, not the goddess of your personal cult, Stephen.

Stephen / AI performance (37,972) by Stacey from USA
Stephen, preach my friend preach. Your last two posts to Anthony and Samuel were shear perfection. Look, as far as the whole lipping thing goes, it doesn't bother me if she lipped some or all of the AI performance. Singers have been doing this for a long time, Mariah included. I went to the last concert on the CB tour and I can guarantee you many parts of that concert were lipped. It's ok. I'd lip at the end of a major tour too, lol. I didn't care. I was so happy to be dead center 15 rows back. My issue with the AI performance was how bad the editing/dubbing was. It was so obvious, it was bad. And on a major stage like AI where younger fans are watching, folks like Stephen said who don't know her very well, a performance like that could be a deal breaker. Maybe it won't hurt her. Only time will tell. When you are promoting the lead single to a new album, you have to bring your "A-game". I hope she brings that "A-game" to GMA this Friday.

If you were referring to me (37,971) by Anthony Early from Wales
As juvenile, please don't. Please get down off your high horse and don't tell me how to spend my time. I'm irritated by you and wanted to express that. I have now. No, I don't want a row. And don't mistake raising an objection to you as juvenile. Finally, now I know where you stand, I'll know to pass over your posts.

Firstly, I'm not constantly negative. Please see my comments re #Beautiful and it's accompanying video. I was praising both. Re the voice, you hit the nail on the head, it's my opinion, and that's all. Perhaps you should focus less energy on something that's merely an opinion, and do something more productive with it. I'm not going to sit here and defend myself as a fan to you. I've been on this message board since 1902, and have always expressed concern over the state of Mariah's voice. This is nothing new. Whether or not that makes me a fan of Mariah, I'm afraid I'll be the judge of that and not you. Just because I express an opinion that you don't agree with, that doesn't make it any less valid. I'm not going to discuss the matter any further with you, as I know you can't reason with the juvenile. You already said that you don't want to get into arguments with people online, and you're right, it's unnecessary. I merely expressed an opinion. If you don't agree with it, don't get worked up over it. I'm merely exercising my freedom of expression, which I have been doing so since 1902, and will continue to do so here. Peace.

I see hypocrite people pretending to be Mariah's people (37,969) by Zachary from Croatia
I don't write very often on this site, but when I feel that something has to be said, I will say it. I see a lot commentary about her alleged lip singing and etc. Just a few months ago she nailed her performance during Christmas songs and everyone were talking how she still got it and her voice is amazing and bla bla bla. Somehow I doubt that she lost her voice in matters of months. Give her a break: the performance was a part of a huge show and, ok, if she had a little help, fine. She wanted to sound great and she did. I personally think that she only had a back up track in Beautiful with Miguel´s voice along. Do not hate, support. Greetings from Croatia. Zachary.

Stephen (37,968) by Anthony Early from Wales
I'm fed up of you saying she can't sing like it's now fact. It isn't. It's your opinion. And your constant negativity, which is coming close to the mark as nastiness, is draining. I agree with Samuel. I never argue on the net, but this board over the past week has infuriated me to the point where I too feel the need to speak out. Mariah has done some of her most incredible live performances well after 1997 (in my opinion). And the fact you have to mention 1997 Stephen speaks volumes. I don't think you're a fan of her voice anymore. I'm not debating whether you're a fan or not, because I don't know and frankly I don't think she needs "fans" like you, but constant criticism and the 1997 thing really suggests you're no longer a fan of her voice now. I apologise if I come across as annoyed, but I genuinely really am.

The UK (37,967) by Will from England
For a Mariah song, I'm surprised yet very pleased, that #Beautiful is remaining consistent on the UK iTunes and Official Singles charts. It's been quite happy in the Top 20s and jumping 12 places to be in the Top 30 songs, in both respective charts. And without any promo. That's pretty good for Mariah.

Where did you find this explicit download? I searched iTunes and I only see the version which I already downloaded.

Samuel (37,965) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
I'm afraid I'm not missing any point. Mariah has been in the business for 23 years, and in terms of her legacy, she has nothing to prove, she's done it all. However, if she wants to release new material, and actually sell that to a mass audience, which is clearly the point of her having a record deal, then I'm afraid she has everything to prove. There is a whole generation of fans who don't have a clue who she is, or even care that prior to 1997 she was able to saaang. They also don't give a flying hoot about how many records she's sold. To them and most of the public at large, that's irrelevant. In this day and age, that counts for nothing. When you are singing on stage, on a platform as big as American Idol, where you are critiquing contestants vocal performances as a judge, I think the least you can do is actually sing the complete performance live. People expect that. A new generation of the public expect it. She has something to prove to them. She also has something to prove to her long standing fans. Why should we not expect the supposed "voice" to sing live? It's not like we're her fans for her amazing dance routines. It's the voice. That's the point of Mariah Carey, and if you don't get that, then I'm afraid that it's you who is missing the point.

#Beautiful (Explicit) now on iTunes (37,964) by Edward from USA
I just downloaded my copy of #Beautiful (Explicit) from iTunes, and I have to say that I like it better than the clean version. Now the # makes sense to me. I also have to agree that #Beautiful is the best lead single Mariah has released since Fantasy. I would love a slightly longer version of the song, and some good remixes. But I think she should wait for #Beautiful to reach the top 10 before she releases any variation of the song, that way the chances to reach the top spot would be greatly increased. I can't wait for the GMA performance on Friday. Since airplay has been consistently increasing and sales have been steady, I can easily see #Beautiful in the top 15 on the next Billboard release. At this point I think they must already have the next single ready. I am really excited about the new album.

I just can't anymore (37,963) by S from England
I can't remember the last time I felt like I wanted to engage in a online disagreement than right now. I just scroll and see people's comments like Stephen's and they just miss the whole point. If Mariah released Beautiful and decided she doesn't even want to perform it or just lypsync it, it really doesn't matter at this stage of her life. I'll say it once again, Mariah has nothing left to prove. Fans are here still discussing her only because she has chosen to keep giving the fans a little music here and there but she is under no obligation to "come back with a hard new era" or "get serious". We're lucky she's still singing at all. You want to criticize artists and judge them, then go to Katy Perry or Nicki fan sites because they are early on in their careers. Mariah has been going since 1990. People need to chill, it's not that serious geez. Mariah if you are reading this, I just want to say I appreciate you and thanks for still making music, because at the end of the day, I know you don't have to.

Mariah live (37,962) by Jimbo from UK
I agree with the sentiment other users have already expressed. Why can't Mariah just give one "honest" performance. No more dubbing, no more singing along to a backing track, no more earpiece excuses. It's frustrating. I'm sure we all fell in love with Mariah's voice before anything else she had to offer. Remember the early performances of Vanishing? And I still love her voice, I just wish she would be honest during her performances. I'm tired of seeing a nervous, insecure singer on stage, scared to use that instrument that made her into the superstar she is today, because she's lost all confidence in its ability. She's a legend. Her voice is the most unique and beautiful sound I've ever heard. It has a dreamy richness, and a tone that is so distinctive you know immediately who is singing. There must be some way to repair it, surgery or vocal exercises?

Che (37,961) by RibbonB from USA
Lol. I have been thinking the same thing for days now. People get all caught up that they ignore what's right in their faces. They should believe the real, raw footage, not the recorded, edited footage, which is distorted. Lol. MC could be speaking with someone right in their face and someone would say she lipped it.

She wrote the songs (37,960) by Anonymous from
Mariah has written #17 1's. And she has proven yet again that she can still write an excellent pop song. #Beautiful in my opinion is her best lead single since Fantasy. She's written the song of the summer. It sounds beautiful on the radio.

Absence of Miguel (37,958) by Orkun from The Netherlands
If Miguel couldn't perform the song with Mariah, because he was on tour with Alicia Keys as her support act, if this is the reason, how can Alicia Keys come to A.I. and he can't?

Mariah's voice is still the voice (37,957) by Anonymous from
Mariah can still sing. I don't think she's the new Maria Callas. Even if it was dubbed or lipped, it was still her voice that was used.

Edward / this new era (37,956) by John from USA
I agree with you 100%. Mariah really needs to bring it for this era. I think it's do or die. It may be her last chance to have any significant airplay, sales, chart stats. She's 43, and clearly her voice isn't exactly what it was back in the 90s, and God only knows how much longer her voice will be decent enough to even attempt to perform live. She can still do great in the studio (i.e. "Almost Home"), but her live performances are a mixed bag. I'm praying she gets her act together this era. I'm hoping for decent videos, live-ish performances (I'll take what I can get), and above all, promotion. Please Mariah, if you're reading this, we know you can do this, you are Mariah-legend-freaking-Carey. Get out there, promote, and slay them all once again.

Re: Jaker20 / lipsync nonsense (37,955) by Che from USA
The reason Miguel was unable to perform with her on Idol is because he's currently on tour with Alicia Keys. There's video of her singing other songs in between the songs that aired on AI and her voice is pure perfection. The videos are on YouTube. If people want to watch them and still say she lip synched then oh well.

Lip sync, Edward, Stephen (37,953) by Anonymous from
You folks who can't hear her lip sync either needs a new tv or needs to get your ears check. It's very obvious that she did. And why does it matter? It's because she is a singer and a professional one at that, who has been giving advice to other singers about what to do with their voice. How in the world are you going to critique someone and then have a false performance? I'm glad that Edward and Stephen understands what I'm thinking. It's aweful to do that on AI. She should have sucked it up and did one big live performance. It is what it is.

MC fans are MC's toughest critics (37,952) by jaker20 from US

Stephen from London, thank you (37,951) by Edward from USA
Stephen, you're so on point about the fact that when she was pregnant and probably off any type substances e.g. alcohol, weed or any other thing, her voice improved significantly. She was obviously making sure her then unborn twins were fine, and by doing whatever she did, which included avoiding any type of alcohol, something she said herself, also helped her voice. While still pregnant, she perfectly executed "One Child" live for the Christmas special at the white house. By no singing live on AI, and I'm not saying she lip-synced, but it wasn't live either, she opened Pandora's box and all hell broke loose, and I hope she can close it back with Friday's performance. I already got my tickets for the GMA mini concert, I hope she redeems herself, since all eyes will be on her. If Miguel is not available, Trey Lorenz would be a good choice to perform the whole song with her. I hope she up the humidifiers by 10,000 and don't speak for the rest of the week if that is what is going to take for her to give us a decent performance. She has such a great single out, praised by the media, and doing well on iTunes and Billboard, she just have to do her part. I love me some Mariah, but she needs to get serious for this new era.

AI performance (37,950) by Robby from Norway
First, Mariah looked stunning in her white ensemble during her AI performance. She looked beautiful. Second, i enjoyed the performance. It was so nice seeing her again for the long time on TV performing. Third, the not-singing-live-thing, come on. It is her voice. What is the matter? If she lipsing it so what? She is not using other voice, it's her genuine voice - live or not. Kudos to Mariah. I love you so much. I appreciate you. I enjoy you. I hope to see on the top of the charts soon.

Wow (37,949) by RadChad from United States
People are still going off as if it's a proven fact that she lip sung on Idol.
My thing is her vocals even sound live and raw, so if anything I would harp on it being (a bad) dub job before being convinced it was lipped. Anyway, from what I heard (dubbed or live), the voice sounds better than ever. So some of you all need to chill out for a minute, atleast until she performs on GMA Friday, before you go off on the deep end with your anger and hostility. I'm just saying.
