Re: Desiree (36,464) by Badr from USA
Your comment, "if it wasn't for her, there wouldn't be a Mariah Carey", completely overlooks the legacy of artists like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder, true R&B legends whose careers have lasted decades.

"Whitney hasn't had that many hits for the past 20 years." What? (36,463) by Lourenço from Portugal
Well some comments keep surprising me, so concerning the absence of Michael and Whitney on this top 40, I read someone's comment alleging that Whitney hadn't had that many hits in the past twenty years. Well, The Bodyguard went out in 93 and it's the most successful album ever released by any woman. And then she kept having good selling albums for the rest of the decade. She doesn't come on the list, because she is an RnB singer and the chart is about "pop song artist".

Rihanna and charts (36,462) by Lourenço from Portugal
Hello everyone. I decided to write after the growing fuss about the Billboard chart pop songs artists. As the name shows, the chart is exclusively about pop songs in the last twenty years, so Rnb and soul are excluded (Whitney Houston and most Mariah songs such as Fantasy, Once Sweet Day, We Belong Together, Against All Odds, and so on). Having said that, I´m pretty happy she managed to get the 5th place, although I personally think Britney should be on the first spot, taking into account that she is far more successful both in CD sales and singles sales, as well as tours. Oh, I couldn't help getting surprised when I read a user's comment stating that Rihanna has sold more than Mariah in this century. That is completely false, only TEOM, Glitter and Charmbracelet together sold about 20 million CD's which is far more than Ri has sold. It's her singles that sell a lot, and even so Mariah is much more successful than Ri from 00 to this very moment.

Whitney (36,461) by Desiree from USA
Whitney did have a lot of hits and personally, if it wasn't for her, there wouldn't be a Mariah Carey. Don't disrespect someone who made music history.

Feeling good (36,460) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
I am in a very feel good mood today, because of Mariah and her Christmas albums. I'm so ready for the holidays. Damn you Mimi lol.

Re: Rihanna (36,459) by Jay from USA
I do believe that the article is a bit misleading. I read elsewhere that Rihanna is top "pop charts" artist. Billboard has many charts and one of them is top pop songs, which is why Whitney and Michael didn't place and why Mariah only place at #5. (They usually charted better in r&b or top 100.) And also, eventhough Mariah has had many hits, she doesn't always chart on all the charts. I guess everyone needs to be #1 in something.

Re: Rihanna, are you kidding me (36,458) by TJ from Norway
Whitney and Michael didn't have many big hits in the last 20 years, I guess that is why they are not on the list. I believe Mariah is way bigger than Rihanna, but Rihanna is more popular at the moment. She has had more hits in the 2000's than Mariah.

Lee (36,457) by TJ from Norway
I know Madonna did a lot of things in the 90's, but to say she was not a legend back in 97 is strange to me. Madonna was and still is a legend in music, just as Mariah. Mariah has not been really popular/big in Europe since 1995, but she is still a legend.

Rhianna? Are you kidding me? (36,456) by Carol from Spain
Ok, Rhianna is named the most important pop artist in the last 20 years by Billboard. I don't speak for anyone else but me, so are the Billboard editors on drugs or something? Why is Rhianna so important? She didn't change anything in music, she she is just a pawn in the industry that sells sexual music. Shame. People like her exist to the millions. This list doesn't incorporate important artists like Whitney or Michael Jackson, therefore this is all bogus. Ri Ri fans are happy for the wrong reasons. Rhianna is all sex party and scandal. No talent at all.

Minaj / I Am Free / If It's Over at SNL (36,455) by Davey J from USA
1) American Idol should never have hired Minaj. As producers, they should make sure that the panel has the correct chemistry. They signed Mariah first to nail down a major talent and to me Mariah should have had say over who she will be working with. If she had a beef with Minaj, that should have been the end of it. Anything that happens from here on out is the producers fault amplified by Nicki's immature over-the-top behaviour. Mariah is now stuck dealing with a bleak situation.
2) After all these years, I think I've finally decided that my favorite vocal is I Am Free. The song has all of the ranges, it's sultry, the harmonies are spot on, it's compartmentalized into perfect sections, the production is fantastic and breezy, it's gospel-tinged, its incredibly difficult to sing, her belting is spine tingling, and its climax is pure gold. I have many second place songs (Outside, Butterfly, Without You, And You Don't Remember, Forever) but this one takes the cake.
3) Recently, for the nostalgia, I've been going back to old YouTube concerts and videos and I think my favorite of those has got to be If It's Over from SNL. Since I love SNL, it literally had everything. Wally A, Trey, old-school Randy Jackson, and the SNL house band, since the song was structured based on the SNL band's closing music for the show. I could watch it every day.

Putting the fued to rest (36,454) by RadChad from United States
Nicki didn't embarrass nobody but herself (by getting loud and ignorant with Mariah). Most of the world is on Mariah's side and has gone in on Nicki for acting/reacting the way she did (whether Mariah was shady or not). Speaking of which, how do we know Nicki didn't push Mariah's buttons first? The point is, just because somebody acts out or blow up, doesn't mean it's always justified. Yes, she was reacting to something MC said, but overracting by losing self control and professionalism is the issue. Having said that, believe it or not, I'm officially over this situation, it's been a week now and it appears Mariah is moving on and enjoying life and I guess Nicki is doing the same. If they can make peace, put it behind them, and work together professionally moving forward, then its all good with me. I actually think it would be great if they made up on the live show and perform UOMF together to officially bury the hatchet. The end.

Desiree (36,453) by Licia from USA
I don't believe anyone thinks that Mariah is perfect or doesn't do anything wrong. I said it once before, I believe Mariah may have provoked the situation and depending on what she said she may have been in the wrong, but Nicki handled the whole situation in the wrong way. She didn't embarrass Mariah at all. She made herself look like a fool with the way she behaved. She has every right to defend herself, but this could have been hashed out behind closed doors away from cameras and the contestants. That type of behavior on a job is unacceptable, no matter who said what.

Desiree (36,452) by RibbonB from USA
Perhaps you need to get real. Lot's of people go off inappropriately, but even if their buttons are pushed, each person is in control of their own behavior. Just like Chad lost all of his jobs for an inappropriate head butt. I'm sure his wife was running her mouth, as is her prerogative, but a head butt is an over reaction. You get up and leave, check in later with calmer heads. Maybe he'd still have one of his jobs today. Same with nut case Minaj, if M was pushing her buttons, she had any number of more professional ways to respond. No one thinks MC is perfect, but she does behave professionally. Blame the Idol producers who probably set them both up, taped the scene and released in to fellow Fox show TMZ. But it's pretty immature to blame MC for Nicki's immature, pitiful behavior. Nicki acted dumb, insecure, loudmouthed, and unprofessional. She should be fired, but Fox is having too much fun with the bullshit. Nicki says she isn't a role model and she definitely isn't for me, but we could tell her young impressionable fans that her way is not the right way to behave at work. Period.

Get real (36,451) by Desiree from USA
I feel like you guys believe whatever Mariah Carey does is perfect. Well, I find the video to be a disadvantage for Nicki, because someone doesn't go off on someone without that person keep pushing their buttons. Mariah pushed Nicki buttons and came to see she was embrassed.

Carla (36,450) by RibbonB from USA
I agree, Mariah was not disrespectful to Madonna, in fact her slight shade was in response to something Madonna allegedly said about her. Mariah has been very respectful of other artists her entire career, almost never referring to others by name and rarely giving into baits to shade other artists. And nothing Mariah allegedly said warrants the Nicki Minaj show of aggression, whether staged or not. American Idol is dumb for the whole thing. The key thing is, there are nuts get caught up in news stories and you never know who is crazy out there. At the end of the day, Nicki is nothing but a fad and she shall fade away.

Re: Scott from USA (36,449) by Carol from Spain
Well, she is a perfectionist and to be perfect, you must be demanding with you and others. I have no problem in being demanding and she earned that right. I'm not saying she is perfect, I'm saying that she is a person that deserves respect when she discusses music with anyone. If she gives an opinion, even if the opinion is different from yours, you better listen and better take it into consideration. And more, I don't see Mariah calling anyone a bitch. Maybe she said something like "you don't know anything" and maybe Nicki went crazy after that. But if we see things, Nicky doesn't know anything. She could take the chance to be with Mariah and learn something. Mariah didn't deserve anything compared to that. But Nicki is learning the hard way that you don't mess with a legend. A lesson for life.

Re: Desiree from USA (36,448) by Carol from Spain
I agree with you that respect is earned and in this case I don't see what Mariah did wrong. In the video we can only see Nicki yelling at Mariah and for me, that's being desrespectful. All for a different opinion? And a person needs to keep a higher ground and composure. Mariah did, Nicki lost it and I hope she gets punished. Mariah earned respect in the industry by being nice to people, I believe. She doesn't need to have a low grade category type of person behaving like crap.

TJ Norway (36,447) by Carol from Spain
I remember the episode between Mariah and Madonna. Mariah wasn't desrespectful, she only said she listened to Madonna when she was seven. Mariah merely answered to a comment Madonna made when she said she would rather die then to be Mariah for one day. I hardly call that a feud. I call that an opinion. They never misbehaved in public like that.

One problem, TJ (36,446) by Lee from USA
Madonna pretty much threw her goodies to anyone in the 1990s. She slept with any man (and woman) in order to keep her name in the tabloids and made porn. In 1997, Madonna was not a legend, but an established star. It's hypocritical to condemn Mimi for saying Madge needing controversy when the press and public said the same thing for years. Meanwhile, Mimi kicked ass in the 1990s without sleeping with God-knows-who. To compare Mimi's honest criticism to Nicki's disrespect is asinine.

Carla (36,444) by TJ from Norway
Mariah was disrespectful to Madonna back in 1997 in a TV interview. For me, it's important to understand that no one is perfect. We all have our faults, and sometimes we say or do things we are not proud of. I couldn't care less about this "feud" between MC and Nicki, except that I find it strange that she has hired more security because of the situation. I really hope that is just a rumor. I also don't think that European fans have that much to say about American Idol.

The Mariah vs Nicki discussion (36,443) by Geezy from USA by way of NYC
Everyone is going to have an opinion about who's right, who's wrong and who started it. As for me, I'm a bit over it. I'm still looking at the folks over at Idol with the side eye for the leaked footage. Secondly, even though our queen mavbe slightly over the top, that's apart of the image and anything else would be uncivilized. Honestly, Mariah is looking like a real winner here as she was out with her family yesterday enjoying family time. While Nicki her fans and washed up 90's female rapper Foxy Brown are still taking to twitter throwing shots. Smh, when does the madness end? Also when does a thirty year old rapper grow up and stop with the rainbow bright outfits and find an indentity and style of their own? Nicki's whole style is Lil Kim mid 90's and Weezy's current rap style. Also pay attention, big picture here Nicki is rereleasing her album because sales of her album are at less then 700k, even with all this publicity, so who's really losing?

Respect (36,441) by Desiree from USA
I am a fan of Mariah Carey, but I say this for the final time. If you want respect, you must give it. You just don't earn it. Also it takes two to tango, so Mariah had herself to blame too. Nicki didn't act the right way, but I can't blame her, because where I am from it's all about giving respect and then you recieve it back. But if you cross the line, you may find yourself being disrespected.

Take it seriously (36,439) by Anonymous from
I still believe this "feud" is a publicity stunt, but in the off chance that it's not, it should be taken seriously. I know some people aren't thinking that way, but they should because you never know. Mariah has every reason to believe it's true and every right to do what she has to to protect herself and her family. No sane person goes around threatening to shoot someone. Personally, I'd rather see Mariah hire extra bodyguards and be cautious than for us Lambs to be holding a candlelight vigil in her memory.
