Yes, and remix ends up at #12 on Hot 100 (105,710)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Ariana's team waited 4 weeks too late to release the remix. It seems like somebody on her team really didn't think the remix was good enough to release a week after the original and make a video. I hope MC is able to get her own high profile collaboration out this year. I would love a SZA and Summer Walker collaboration just like Whitney ft. Faith Evans and Kelly Price on Heartbreak Hotel. It's going to be interesting what happens with MC16 before the AIWFCIY season starts.

I feel today that MC is going to wait until the Taylor and Dua release their albums first. We are probably looking at August or September now.

New album (105,672)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

JWho apparently spent 20 million of her own money to create a visual album. Now I haven't seen the visuals neither have I heard the album so I don't know much about it. I hear it's average but that's a really ambitious project. It didn't do great sales wise but like I said still ambitious. The way Mariah writes her songs sometimes you can envision them (like BGK, Babydoll, Crybaby etc) so I would really love a visual album from Mariah. Where she hires creative people to help her out with strong visuals. I wish she'd be willing to take that ambitious project on. Also I was hoping MC releases her album sooner that later, the more she'll delay the lesser attention it'll get. I still think she's got more hits in her just need to have the right collaborations whether it's other writers or other artists.

Glitter is a masterpiece - I think lambs remember this moment as a failure, but this was the only year Mariah appeared in Forbes list of most powerful women, she did the national anthem at the Super Bowl in 2002 next to the 9/11 statue, she looked gorgeous, and Loverboy was constantly on the radio, on TV music stations, also #2 on Billboard (don't give me the it was discounted argument, because most singles were always discounted and sat in the discount bins at HMV and Music World). I think corporate Virgin panicked more than the public.
I love Charmbraclet personally, and in my home town of Guelph Ontario (45 mins south/west of Toronto) "Boy" was on the radio constantly, but for some reason the album wasn't what they wanted as a "comeback" album after 18 months of lows ( ) Why do those few months out of 30 years taint her? I'll never know. Think of all the celebrated singers with issues now, 18 months out of the game or spotlight is nothing, Demi Lovato, Britney, even the beauty that is Selina Gomez, Gaga, Ariana. Maybe it was simply the expectation that year after year for a decade Mariah was ever present and showed up. I have no doubt that's exhausting.

YAR CD single (105,707)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
The single should have had three songs. The Max Martin pop mix that we got. A reimagined David Morales extended dance mix with even bigger vocals from both girls. And a reimagined So So Def urban remix with whisper vocals. This should've been planned for months before the single release, for the nostalgia.

Jazz (105,703)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Stacey your dream is probably coming true, one of the insider accounts posted that MC will include a jazz style song on MC16, it can be a sample or a cover. Take it with a grain of salt though since these accounts are right 50-50. They said Ariana and MC have a music video and big promo plans including live performance but we didn't get it. But I think it's a safe bet that she will have something jazz inspired otherwise she would randomly jazz it up on stage.

It's really a dumb argument. I'm not good at cooking for example lol, but I appreciate and recognize a good meal, a good cook and restaurant. I'm not a movie director, but I'm a cineast. By the way I have knowledge of music, my grand-dad was an opera singer. He sang the Caruso songs and other classics. But if someone thinks the rapper Latto and Ariana Grande are wonderful than it's fine. We all have our different tastes. That's good, what a boring world it would be if we had all the same. Nowadays it's trendy to only allow the own opinion. Intolerant and boring.

Did Mariah not say on numerous occasions "I owe it all to the fans"? Well that works both ways I'm afraid when you put yourself in the public domain. You have to earn people's respect and give your fans what they want. Do whatever you like in your personal life but when it comes to your fanbase they have invested a lot of time in her as an artist and only want the best from her. I wasn't negative about her latest release with Ariana, I actually praised it. But I appreciate it's not everyone's favourite, I'm not gonna sit here and type your all something else for not like it as I accept everyone has a difference in opinions. From your post you think Mariah should just do mediocre performances from now on, and everyone should just say that's ok it's Mariah she's allowed to, she doesn't care about that stuff. And again that's fine you're entitled to your opinion, but remember a lot of us have an opinion to you and that's ok too. Ps I sang this back to myself just so you know some of us can sing.

I get what you're saying Jamie. I'm not talking about the usual difference of opinions. I'm passionate about MC and I always defend her but I know it's coming from a positive place. Passionately tearing her to shreds is quite different. MC and her voice have evolved while some fans are stuck in the past waiting for another Music Box that will never happen. Before you call me delusional for staying positive and supportive, delusional would be not acknowledging that her voice will never be the same as it was in her prime. People change, and we must either accept it or move on, there's no need to diagnose her, then whine and moan every time new music comes out, it's unhealthy for everyone involved. I'm very direct, perhaps too direct for some. That's my humble opinion and I stand by it.

Because everyone is individual and has their own opinions. Not one fan is the same. I personally love the remix and stated I thought her vocals were great in it. But I'm open to the thought that others might not like it and that's ok. It's that the point of a forum for everyone to bring their thoughts to the table and create a debate. I'm all for positivity but I'm also open to criticism too otherwise how do people grow. No one truly knows what's going on with Mariah or her voice at times but as fans who have invested so much time in our artist it's only normal to have an opinion one way or the other. It doesn't mean people love her any less. If people didn't comment one way or the other then I would be worried as to me that would show that any passion they have for Mariah has gone. I'm so excited for a new Mariah album if every track is amazing then fantastic but I don't think we should be getting into a culture where we can't say exactly how we feel about something because as I said not everyone likes the same things and that is ok.

Similarity between Big Energy Remix and yes, and? (105,686)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Honestly I was thinking the same. In both instances they were together and could have easily done a longer video or at least have a little chat talking about the collaboration and what it means to them. Ariana could have talked about how the collaboration came to be, why they decided on this song. Mariah could have talked about her love for remixes and why she decided to join Ariana on a song that casual listeners wouldn't associate with her usual music. They could have also done small videos of just them playing fun games to promote the video like "who knows who better" or pop culture quizzes (both of them are big pop culture experts). Then they could have released these videos every other day to keep engagement. It's honestly a shame. Mariah posted a small video yesterday promoting singing the chorus. But I'm shocked that Ariana's team dropped the song like it's hot. Like after the first day there was a single mention of the release not even a story. I know she's trying to sell an album but why not simultaneously put spotlight on this song to keep the engagement ?

Similarity between Big Energy Remix and yes, and? (105,685)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Both songs have snippet promo video but not actual video. Such a waste. In Big Energy Remix, we can see Mariah and Latto in a short promo video wearing pink dresses. Why can't they took that opportunity to just film a video. Nowadays, visual is very important. Now the history repeat itself. Mariah and Ariana were both on set together for promo video of yes, and? wearing black dresses in some hotel but didn't shoot a video. Just a snippet of them hanging around, laughing, lipsynching to the audio of that song. Total waste. We could at least deserve a cheap low budget video of Mariah and Latto in that pink dresses, and Mariah and Ariana in that black dresses. At least.
