MC's plan (101,281)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I'm just thinking that MC could be planning MC16 as a album that will bring the legends and new eclectic artists and producers together on one album. She has never done anything like that before. It's going to be interesting to see what she releases next year. I am ready for something new and fresh.

I'm very excited to see Mimi perform but I wanted to see if anyone knew how long her set will be. I'm not confident she's the main act as her name is roughly fourth from the top. Living in NYC makes me really want to attend but paying $250 for a 25 minute set consisting of Hero, ABMB and the other go to songs makes it hard to commit.

Rolling Stone Butterfly interview (101,279)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
The Rolling Stone Butterfly interview was really good. I loved how she dived into the creation of the songs and how the interviewer noticed that it was Mariah who would lead Walter into a more R&B/Gospel/Soul leaning sound than his work with other artists, like a Celine Dion. I appreciate that even though he has publicly spoken poorly of her, she still speaks highly of him and gives him his flowers. Per this interview we can confirm that Walter was the second producer during the butter knife incident. I liked the bonus story at the end about her experience with weed brownies and how she almost thought she made a mistake with her then experimental approach to Breakdown. Here is the link for those that want to hear it.

Top of the Pops - Honey 1997 (101,278)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I've never seen this performance. At first, I was thrilled it wasn't lip synced. Until she got to the high ad-lib "I Can't Hardly Wait. Gotta Have Another Taste." It's interesting to hear her voice so husky but she still had use of some of her high full voice notes. I wish she had thugged it out and hit that adlib. 1997, even though she looked like she struggled thru performances, was one of my favorite vocal years because she had some rasp but still could sing in her belting range pretty high.

So, the Honey is the sperm collective, the guys dancing represent each individual sperm trying to get to the egg who would be represented by Mariah, the uterus is represented by the boat they're dancing on. Then the egg take a swimming in the honey and then she has twins on 2011. Mimi L, I love you, but I guess you're ready to have a baby.

Yeah, how do you call a 6-minute interview a documentary? I don't think fans found out much about the video that we didn't already know.

I am so sad about it too Mimi L. I can't die without knowing what D.U.N.C.E. means haha and the theory you said about. Wow Mariah is a genius for it and it makes so much sense!

It did look equally as good, but the sepia filter was very "Butterfly", what with the album palette and Mariah's earth tone look back then.

Release Honey music video in that color (101,273)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Those who watched the Honey documentary can see the original color of the music video, which is very vibrant instead of that yellow tone that they filtered on the music video. So why not it's about time that they release an alternate music video with the original color/tone that they filmed. It can be a gift to the fans and newer fans. It can also generate more views.

Thank you for sharing, Billy. This interview is so good. It's a great time to be a Lamb right now. Good things are on the way in 2023. I wonder how MC is going to celebrate the Rainbow album's 25th anniversary in 2024. I have a few ideas.

Continuing from my last post, I wish for Mariah magnum opus album "Butterfly" that we would have a whole documentary attached to it like making of the album, the thought process, the song inspirations, the video concepts. I know she has said details in previous interviews and her book but it'd be nice to have it all in 1 documentary. Or another thing she could have done is have a breakdown of all her videos from the album as almost all the videos from this album was really conceptual with a lot of thought into it (aka not just Mariah touching herself) so I would have loved her do a whole documentary on that.

Another taste of honey (101,266)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

Just got back from watching the BTS. Firstly Mariah looks stunning but girl what on earth? It was 5 mins long only after all that hype? Honey is easily one of her best videos (Breakdown is #1 though) and it's iconic. There's so much that goes on in the video and the remix video too I was thinking we'd get a scene by scene breakdown and some details behind the looks, the scenes, what does "D.U.N.C.E." stand for. It was only 5 mins long and that includes cutaways to the music video and also a story about how one of the crew got into an accident? Like I understand it's serious and would have made sense in a longer documentary to share but in 5 mins a whole minute was dedicated to that. Anyways. Ok so on another tangent - we all know/suspect that "Honey" is innuendo for bodily fluids but I saw this theory yesterday that the scene where Mariah was dancing with the sailors (or "sea men") was an innuendo of semen around an egg I was dead lol. Also the light fixture behind them was a giant egg shaped one. I wanted tea on that. I don't know if this was talked about when "Honey" originally came out because I was a baby but I legit can't look at the video the same lol. If that was truly the intention then Mariah is a genius.

Re: Breakdown rediscovered (101,264) (101,265)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Yes I agree. Breakdown should be released as single, right after My All. Mariah should perform Breakdown at: 1. Soul Train Lady Of Soul Awards, instead of performing that My All/Stay Awhile. My All was already number one at that time so no point of performing that song. Such a waste, in my opinion. 2. Video Music Awards, the one where she attended and presented with the late Whitney. Imagine Mariah wearing the cowboy hat and black leather pants as in the video for the performance. Or she can just wear the sexy pole dancer black outfit. Whatever she likes.
Those two performances from two major awards show should guarantee a hit song for Breakdown.

I think Breakdown will go down in history as one of the biggest regrets of Mariah's career. The song was ground breaking at the time, the video was brilliant, and nothing like it had come before it. I genuinely believe it would have been a #1 in the US if it had been given its shot. Mariah would have got behind it and promoted the hell out of it. Glad you're seeing it in a new light now Terna. As I live through different experiences so many Mariah songs end up meaning more, Breakdown no exception.

Agreed. I remember listening to most of those #1 songs from 1998 over and over and over. I know R. Kelly is an unsavory character, but I quite liked that Celine/R. Kelly duet. My grandma really liked Celine Dion, so thinking of that song reminds me of her. "The Boy Is Mine" was also a huge favorite. And that song "Too Close" was super catchy but incredibly inappropriate for me to be listening to when I was 10 lol.

I don't think it would've been number 1. I know it's horrible to say, but it's not one of my favorites. Breakdown though.

It would've been another #1, if it was released as an actual single. The video was number 1 on TRL, a lot.

I really enjoyed to read the link with the charts from 97. Good music, I could listen to all the songs today with a smile. I'm so happy to have witnessed the 90ies music. But I can't believe it's been 25 years since Butterfly was released. I remember it, as it was yesterday. I love the two new remixes, it takes me back to a better time. Almost like the time machine from "Doc Brown". The live versions of "Butterfly" and "My All" are very emotional and so good, although well-known by the lambily. Butterfly is the perfect album for autumn. Thanks to Mariah for giving us the anniversary edition for Butterfly. It's good for the soul.

The double LP of Honey is available to pre-order from Urban Outfitters on honey coloured vinyl (exclusive). It contains the same tracks as the MC30 EP and sadly, not the new Morales remix.
