Daley - My All (96,979)
by 123 from USA

Such a good cover. Love that he did his own rendition. Mariah is one of the few artists that have songs so difficult that it's hard to duplicate the original vocals. Love it when artists put their own spin on it. Daley is a very underrated artist.

Tori Kelly - AIWFCIY (96,978)

I would say this is the best original cover next to Shania Twain's cover back in the 90s. I love that she made it her own instead of trying the impossible by attempting to duplicate the original. Love this girl's riffs. You can tell she went to the school of Jazmine Sullivan and Kim Burrell. Love that Mariah gave her the rights to cover it.

1995 Chart battle (96,977)
by 123 from USA
| |
|
|
95 was a crazy chart battle of the divas. Mariah came out swinging with a monster album. I didn't know how bad their labels were using them to compete with each other for chart dominance and bragging rights. For Janet to come out first and hit #1, only to be dethroned by Mariah with Fantasy for the #1 spot, only for Mariah to be knocked off the top spot by Whitney, and then for Whitney to be knocked off the top spot by Mariah and Boyz II Men. This MTV link from that year provides a nice overview.

I have a feeling that even if it (Willow) hits number 1 for a week, it will be dethroned by AIWFCIY come next week.

My two cents about all this is that yes it would be amazing if Mariah stays at #1 because what an accomplishment that would be, but if she drops to #2, Mariah is still technically a winner. She managed to give Willow such a huge fight and competition despite AIWFCIY being a 26 year old holiday song. Like imagine a huge artist like Taylor having to discount her lead single (of her surprise album, on her birthday month) and release so many discounted remixes and videos just to compete with a 26 year holiday song that has not been discounted and is standing strong on its own merit. People are actually choosing to buy Mariah's song at full price while Taylor is having to discount hers. That being sad, I wish Taylor would have released her song in January because she is a talented hard working girl but December is Mariah's month.

Amazing. According to Billboard-Canada AIWFC is at number 2 (behind Mood by 24kGoldn). Last year AIWFC hit number one for the first time on Billboard-Canada charts.
Music Canada Charts has AIWFC at Number 1 and Oh Santa! at number 4. (You have to pay to see the full Billboard-Canada chart which I ain't got money or priority for, so I don't kow where Oh Santa! is on Billboard-Canada.)

Mariah hits number one in Germany (96,972)

So after the US and UK, Mariah has another one chart position on the official German single charts. Wham is at number two by the way. Just wow. I have a feeling that "AIWFCIY" gets bigger and bigger each year.

Can we say close, but still far away? I believe her debut album has been certified 9 millions for years, but I guess it take a while to sell a million 30 years after being released. How far away from a gold certification is Caution? Anyone?

Taylor Swift Willow (96,967)
by Pedro from Brazil
| |
|
|
Taylor is clearly trying to dethrone AIWFCIY on the Hot 100. She has already released 3 versions of the single "Willow", which is currently #1 on Spotify, and as of yesterday, it was only few points behind AIWFCIY on those early prediction sites. Her fans have been streaming the song day and night to secure her another #1. American Lambs need to stream some more if they want to see AIWFCIY on top next week.

I am glad that you are doing better Edward. I tested positive for Covid-19 a week ago last Wednesday. I had mild symptoms but experienced insomnia for three nights without much sleep. I wanted to call 911 on two of those nights because I could not relax to fall asleep. I took another Covid-19 test yesterday and my test results came back negative. I am thankful that I am better today. I know that I will sleep better tonight.

RIAA Diamond certifications (96,962)
by Terna from Nigeria

This is crazy in a good way. Haha. In no time Mariah is actually gonna have 4 diamond albums. Her debut album is so close to that diamond status and deservedly so and now "Merry Christmas" as well, it may even reach it before the debut.

I confess this stuff confuses me a bit so apologies if I have misunderstood it. So Merry Christmas has jumped 2 million in just over 1 year since its last certification.
8x Multi-Platinum - December 14, 2020 6x Multi-Platinum - October 1, 2019
The mind boggles where this album could be in 5-10 years time if it continues to add approximately 2 million each year. Logically it will realistically be Mariah's third diamond album next year as AIWFCIY seems to be proving even more popular this year than it did last and sooner, thereby extending its peak for a long period.
Same with AIWFCIY: 8x Multi-Platinum - December 14, 2020 6x Multi-Platinum - October 9, 2019
I would have thought she'd crack a 10 million selling next year as well.

That is great - doesn't that mean Mariah with 66.5 million units certified is now just two million short of Streisand?
As "AIWFC" is a guaranteed hit for the remainder of time and will keep adding to MC's tally, it seems inevitable that Mariah will eventually overtake Streisand and become the top selling certified female in the US, which would have seemed impossible a few years ago with the collapse in album sales.
What an achievement and way to end 2020!

Merry Christmas and AIWFC RIAA certifications (96,955)
by Horacio from United States

Both Merry Christmas and "All I Want For Christmas" have been certified 8x Platinum in the US by the RIAA. In doing so, MC's first Christmas albums surpasses The Emancipation of Mimi to become Mariah's 4th highest certified album in the US. Merry Christmas' previous RIAA certification was 6x platinum. Current top 5 standings:
Daydream - 10x Platinum Music Box - 10x Platinum Mariah Carey - 9x Platinum Merry Christmas - 8x Platinum The Emancipation of Mimi - 6x Platinum
