New album (109,704)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I think after TD didn't perform like MC and Gamma had hoped they are trying to regroup and come up with another plan to launch the album. August is almost here and it will be September 1st before we know it and it seems promos have stalled waiting for TD to become Touch My Body in 2025. I analyzed album roll out plans and promos for several artists who have albums coming out in August with a definite release date and most have been on various TV programs promoting their new albums. I think Gamma is going about rolling out MC16 all wrong. I hope with the 2nd single rollout that MC is on as many TV programs that she can make an appearance on and start promoting her new album. Just my two cents this weekend.

New album (109,703)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

|
|
The new album is supposed to be a summery sound, well July is almost over I wonder what the roll out plan is and I was thinking I really hope the new album and what we heard about it turns out to be like E=MC2. I've been playing the album and it's still so fresh and experimental. Almost every song had single potential. I was also re-listening to For the Record and indeed what a record only MC has a legacy worth referencing in her own song. I absolutely love her doing the part where she word plays her own song titles, how I wish we had a music video of the song with her recreating her famous MV scenes from the songs mentioned. Anyway I'm rambling but yes I'm hoping for an album like that. It's peak summer vibes with songs like TMB, Cruise Control, IBLULT, FTR, Migrate, ITC. Even has the cheesy Love Story and Last Kiss which I know people hate on but I love it.

Quite frankly, I don't think her career would have had such a long lifespan. I'm not sure she would have received the same preferential treatment at another record company.

My other what if is, "what if Mariah didn't end up with Tommy?" like what if Warner Brothers ended up winning the bid and signing Mariah? I wonder how much this would have changed the trajectory of her whole entire career.

Had the remixes been released simultaneously with the original, TD would've charted way higher. At least two of the remixes are better than the original.

I tend to think the opposite, I don't think Nick was a good match for Mariah. Yes initially of course they had that sexual tension and the playful romance but I think Nick didn't respect Mariah's boundaries. She is quite private yet he outed her phone number when she was pregnant, told people they make love to "Hero" and get blabbering about their personal life. It's also clear he gave Mariah reasons to believe he wasn't faithful because in the Barbara Walters interview Mariah already seemed checked out and says she trusts him "sometimes". And then we got MIAM which provided another side of how she was very lonely in the marriage, how he used her for fame and all that.

True. I always believed Nick is a godsend and actually did the impossible. She meant every word of that song. By 39, MC had probably already given up on starting a family. Her biological clock was basically out, and she'd lost trust in all men. But somehow, Nick broke through the cracks and not only earned her trust but reinvigorated her desire for family. They pursued having children together on a tight deadline (basically her last chance) and actually achieved it.
Even though, I resent Nick for being too deep into all the academia ideologies which then led him off the beaten path of fathering fatherless homes. I still am thankful he was instrumental for MC being a mother. He came just at the right time. I felt it extended Mariah's life.
I'll never forget what MC wrote about Roc and Roe, "Of all the many gifts God has blessed me with: my voice, my creativity, my strength - my children are a vision more beautiful than I could have ever conceived". She considers them on par with her God-given talents, which is so deeply beautiful.

Always Be My Baby (109,699)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I was listening to Heart 90s today whilst driving home with the hood down and the hot sun beaming down on my shoulders. The DJ announced "a great song from Mariah Carey after the break" and inwardly rolled my eyes at the thought of Hero coming on the radio. Imagine my surprise when the strumming guitar of Always Be My Baby came on instead. Instantly I was transported back to 1996 when that song last received radio play here in the UK. I don't know what exactly the radio does to make a song sound so much brighter and better, but it sounded so good. I remember loving the cover of the CD single and the remixes too.
What did strike me though was that the lyrics have a new meaning now. Mariah and I were as one for a moment in time. I genuinely did think she'd always be mine. Then she wanted to free, I let her fly, and now she's dripped in Balenci with some hatin' ass hoes. But such is life. She'll always be a part of me.

The reason Mariah didn't sign with Warners was because they would not let her write her own material. So she would have been another Whitney or Celine, with songs provided and selected for her, and she merely interpret them as a singer.

Nick and his lifestyle is a nightmare. He only did damage to MC in private and in business. He's disgusting. The only good thing are indeed the children who I feel sorry for to have such a father. When they grew older they will have a lot of questions. I can only imagine what Mariah thinks about it.

- Mariah is not one person, but actually several persons playing the role of Mariah. Therefore, accounting for the extreme variations in appearance, personality and voice quality over the years and during short periods of time. - She is actually not a diva at all. But a pretty ordinary old soul at heart, just making up the diva persona to try to be interesting because at her heart she's a grounded, traditional, old school, values-driven, every day Long Island girl. - At the time, Tommy and Walter were the best darn things that she could ever imagine would (or that did) happen to her life and career. At the time. - The hurt that Nick Cannon has caused her with his 12 children and all the brief "interlude" relationships Mariah has had, hurt her far, far more than Tommy really ever did. - It would not have been such a bad life to stay at "Sing, Sing" and travel down that path. Not the life she wanted for herself, admittedly, but not a bad life in and of itself. - She has a great deal of regret for how things were left with her sister and even her mom and she knows in her heart that will never be resolved in this lifetime. An authentic sorrow she will harbor for the rest of her time. - She isn't sure what MC 16 will really be. Some are saying its great, some not so much. She's happy to have public interest in her music other than just at Christmas time and doesn't really know why that interest ever went away. She doesn't have many expectations of it and will truly be fascinated to see if it can even do anything commercially at all. She thought she said good-bye with "Portrait" but maybe she will be saying good-bye with how she really thinks of things now, with "Going up Yonder". - Anderson is nothing but a moment. She knows she will always be OHOHO.

The first point is interesting. The rumour once was that the real Mariah was happily married to Tommy, but died in 1996. The "new Mariah" came to take her place, but the separation and divorce was fabricated to present the new image and sound to detract from the fact the new Mariah's vocals were not up to the OG Mariah's. All the songs that were sung well (mainly ballads on Butterfly) were actually half finished left over songs the original Mariah had recorded but not yet released. Since then the voice has been AI and Mariah's been replaced every so often.

Yes, I always say Tommy wasn't good for her private life, but for the music and for the business he was the best. He knew what he was doing, the years from the debut to 96 are the reason why she's the legend since late 90ies.

But Mariah will not be able to pursue having 4 kids at 47. Having Roc and Roe at 42 was already a freaking miracle. I feel that was the absolute limit. These are super fun though. Very creative.

Unpopular opinion - alternate universe (109,687)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

|
|
2008: Mariah never married Nick in 2008. Roc and Roe never happened to Mariah. Because of marriage never happened, Mariah continues promoting E=MC2 and released Migrate as second single and became her 19th No 1.
2009: Mariah released her album Imperfect Angel and the second single after Obsessed is 100% and the song is the theme song for Precious and became her 20th No 1.
2010: Mariah received her first Oscar award for Best Original Song and even performed the song 100% and ended with standing ovation from the audience.
2011: Mariah performed her world tour to celebrate all her 20 No 1 songs.
2012: Mariah became a judge in American Idol where the 3 panel of judges were Randy, Mariah and Keith. No drama whatsoever among the judges for this.
2013: Mariah released her album The Art Of Letting Go (the original tracklist) and #Beautiful became her 21th No 1. Mariah also released You Don't Know What To Do as second single and the song became her 22nd No 1 song on Hot 100.
2014: Mariah released Out Here On My Own as the third single from the album and this song became Mariah's hit for power ballad that reminded the public of Mariah from the 90's. This song tops the chart as her 23rd No 1. I always felt this song should be in The Art Of Letting Go album because it fits the theme of old school of R&B sound.
2015: Mariah released her album Dedicated (all new songs recorded just like in Me I Am Mariah) and the summer single Thirsty became her 24th No 1. The concept of the video is from Mariah's Game of War commercial in 2015 where Mariah is one of the princess warriors. The video is comedy style like Touch My Body. The video is funded by that game company too. The second single is Cool On You and became her 25th No 1.
2016: Mariah married Derek Jeter and have 4 kids with him. Just like Derek's life now in this universe.
2018: Mariah released "Proceed With Caution" album. Mariah had said, I forgot which interview, that she thought of naming this album as this. A No No is the leading single and it became her 26th No 1.
2019: All I Want For Christmas became her 27th No 1.
2020: Covid happened. End.
Mariah sealed her career with 27th No 1 as 27 is her favorite number, her birth date.

We all just want the album title and release date at this point. It seems there is not much excitement for the TD remixes. While MC and Gamma seem to be waiting on the stars to align and a Buck Rogers in the 25th Century tv series reboot, Ciara gave a brillant performance and interview on the Today show yesterday in support of her upcoming CiCi album dropping on August 22nd. Craig David and JoJo dropped their beautiful duet yesterday in support of his Committment album dropping on August 8th. MC and Gamma have got to step up and get this MC16 ball rolling before Sabrina Carpenter drops her next single in support of her Man's Best Friend album dropping August 29th.

Welcome to the Twilight Zone, my dear. 1. Mariah should've blamed Tommy more than JLo for the Firecracker sample incident. 2. How Much should've been the third single from Rainbow. 3. The diva persona is cute but overplayed and got more and more annoying over the years. 4. GTFO is the best song from Caution. 5. Type Dangerous is a boring song and the extravagant music video is a waste of money. 6. Heartbreaker (not including the Dessert Storm remix) is a far inferior song to any of the previous lead singles. 7. When Hero was considered Mariah's signature song I never really get it. Now as I've grown old I can sometimes relate to the lyrics. 8. Acting is never Mariah's thing. Even her performance in Precious is just average. WiseGirls is better. 9. Nicki is the better judge on American Idol. Mariah's comments are sometimes like saying nothing at all. 10. I'm not really optimistic about MC16 and the singles, chart-wise.

Great thoughts, some are very sad but could be true. I love this comment "every day Long Island girl". Long Island girl would be a good title for her album.

Yes, I always say Tommy wasn't good for her private life, but for the music and for the business he was the best. He knew what he was doing, the years from the debut to 96 are the reason why she's the legend since late 90ies.

Totally agree with you about Tommy's control of her voice made a difference. That was the money maker and he knew it.

TD remixes (109,684)

Not much of resung vocals and new lyrics for the new remixes. The Brazil Funk is the best one. I like that MC sampled Obsessed. Anyway, bring on the 2nd single and MC16. MC has a lot of new album competition each Friday in August from Renee Rapp, Craig David, Good Charlotte, Machine Gun Kelly, The Black Keys, Maroon 5, Conan Gray, Lainey Wilson, Ciara, Mariah The Scientist, Zach Top, and Sabrina Carpenter.

TD remixes (109,677)

Hopefully these remixes are worth it. When TD first dropped, I wanted 2 main remixes, one with Cardi and one with Rakim and I still want those, but in my head I pictured an all-star remix like Busta's Touch It Remix, so I'm hoping for the same with the God's Remix. Once that drops, other rappers should join and make it a Tiktok challenge. I'm not sure why her or the label thought we needed a Big Sean remix though. I'd rather have Bryson Tiller instead. The DJ Snake remix sounds like it could be a club mix and the Brazil Remix could be a spanglish mix ala #Beautiful/Hermosa Remix. Hopefully all or most of these remixes are re-sung and re-worked versions and not a copy and paste situation.

Can someone explain? (109,682)

Ok so other than the bad sound quality, which pretty much plagued all of the Rainbow album minus Heartbreaker and AAO, why is Did I Do That so vilified?

1. Mariah's left side was actually bad. It's only now that she fixed her crooked teeth that it's not bothersome.
2. Long Ago, Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise) ruined the albums they're in.
3. Fly Like A Bird should've been sung in full voice.
4. Majority of Rarities was rightfully scrapped with the exception of Slipping Away and One Night.
5. I Don't Wanna Cry and Someday were mid and weren't deserving of #1.
6. However, "Breakdown" "Underneath The Stars", "Never Too Far" "Through The Rain", "Mine Again", "Migrate", "Love Story (if made acoustic)", "It's A Wrap", "Inseparable", "A No No" all had the potential to be major hits or at least be more relevant when ever her catalogue is brought up.
7. Lambs are unhinged but in a loving crazy way.
