Oh Santa! fun Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson (96,665)
by Horacio from United States
| |
|
|
Billboard just confirmed that the Apple+ Christmas special will have a soundtrack that "is stuffed full of brand new interpretations", according to a statement, and will drop on the same day as an exclusive to Apple Music, then December 11 on other platforms.
Grande and Hudson will join forces with Carey on the lead single and music video for "Oh Santa!", which will drop December 4 across all streaming platforms.

Just a thought soccer/football (96,664)
by Nikki from usa

I was bummed that one of the remixes of Triumphant wasn't on The Rarities album. I recall the board liking the remixes. It doesn't seem dated to me now either for some reason. It still hits hard. It's a shame she couldn't promote it because everyone was interested in this song. ESPN wanted it, BET made the music video #1, but Nick was in the hospital and Mariah had already agreed to film American Idol. It felt like a lost opportunity. I'd like her to dust one of these off and offer it to FIFA as their anthem next year.
She'd could release another album of all her dance/party songs and have Triumphant as the first single. If it does well overseas, and I think it would, she might be able to get back on pop radio in the States too. Her album cover could just be a huge picture of her foot in one of her stiletto's and call it Pump It Up.

Rarities package from MariahCarey.com? (96,663)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
Does anyone know when "The Rarities" package from MariahCarey.com with the vinyl, CD nd book are going to get shipped? Are all three items supposed to be shipped together? I've messaged LiveNation customer service a number of times over the weeks (via the website and directly via the customer service email) and haven't gotten a response. Thanks for the help MCA, I'm frustrated with the merch company not responding to any of my messages.

Cory Rooney and Pat (96,662)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I recall Cory's name. He worked with Mariah a bit at Sony as well as one of J.Lo's "helpers". He defended J.Lo against the stolen sample and acted as if it was commonly used. Mariah was the first to ask for legal rights to sample it which is news that came from its creators in a Yahoo interview from 2001. Cory's name is also in J.Lo's credits as a writer. He would have as much to lose if it was found out that he helped steal the track. Stuff like this may be frequent in the music world, but it's rarely called out on by name. I've never heard Mariah ever mention his name.
I've been collecting pictures of Mariah since 1997. I know Mariah used to talk about calling her mom everyday back then. I also have pictures of Mariah throughout Europe in 2003 with her mom walking in the background holding a cane near Mariah's security. She also accompanied Mariah on Oprah in 2002 to discuss Mariah's childhood and "breakdown". Pat said she called 911 because Mariah had passed out. I don't know who that damage control was for, Pat or Mariah. I'm more bewildered that Mariah gave Morgan millions for his failing business after he tried to Britney Spears her twice.

I'm shocked that he stepped forward to admit that he witnessed the knife incident, confirm what Mariah said in the book and then turn around and call her a liar. The tweet was posted a month ago only to be deleted. He threatened to reveal "the real truth" but so far it's been nothing but crickets. Someone in Cory's camp must have talked some sense into him by letting him know you can't justify placing a butter knife to someone's face. You can still do severe damage if it's directed to an eye or any orifice. He chose a side when their marriage was ending. Everyone sided with Tommy because he was the boss and the man with all the power. That's why she fired everyone on her team when they divorced so she could start fresh. Her career was never the same after that. The last few albums on Sony were a reflection of what happens when you go against the boss. Cory was then given to JLo and Walter to Celine. They were rewarded for their loyalty with artists Tommy wanted to promote and take Mariahs AC and Urban audience away from.

Adding "The Rarities" songs to original albums (96,659)
by The Real Deal from USA
| |
|
|
I made a playlist adding "The Rarities" songs to their original intended albums. It really changes the sound direction of "Music Box". In regard to "Daydream", both "One Night" and "Slipping Away" fit in seamlessly. Check out the order I put the songs in below and listen to them in that same order for a whole new experience from each album.
Debut album: I added "Here We Go Again" right after "Vanishing".
Emotions: I added "Can You Hear Me" right after "To Be Around You".
Music Box: I played around with this track listing a bit. This is what I feel is the best flow for it: 1) Dreamlover 2) Hero 3) Anytime You Need A Friend 4) Music Box 5) Now That I Know 6) Do You Think Of Me 7) All I Live For 8) Never Forget You 9) Without You 10) Just To Hold You Once Again 11) I've Been Thinking About You 12) Everything Fades Away 13) All I've Ever Wanted
Daydream: 1) Fantasy 2) Underneath The Stars 3) One Sweet Day 4) Open Arms 5) Always Be My Baby 6) One Night 7) I Am Free 8) When I Saw You 9) Long Ago 10) Slipping Away 11) Melt Away 12) Forever 13) Daydream Interlude 14) Looking In 15) Fantasy with ODB
E=MC2: I cheated with this one and added "Heat" and "4Real 4Real": 1) Migrate 2) Touch My Body 3) Cruise Control 4) I Stay In Love 5) Side Effects 6) Heat 7) 4Real 4Real 8) Love Story 9) I'm That Chick (with "Fashion Rocks" intro) 10) Cool On You 11) I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time 12) OOC 13) Last Kiss 14) Thanks For Nothing 15) For The Record 16) Bye Bye 17) I Wish You Well

That's so ironic. I knew of that Twitter trolling of the dinner knife saga but literally had no idea who the person was that witnesses it lol so "I don't know her" is very real to me right now. I've never heard of Mariah even mention his name so why is he so obsessed?

Hello all, Pat and Mariah (96,656)
by Tori from US
| |
|
|
Hello everyone. This is my first post but I've been lurking for years. My old account was deleted somehow, probably because I never posted. The commentary in here is like Thanksgiving with the world's most dysfunctional family. It is entertaining to say the least.
Anywho, my first post is about insight on Mariah and Pat's fragile relationship. I've been looking for this for weeks and I've finally found it again. A lot of you were wondering how Mariah could go from having a horrible relationship with her mom to doing a Christmas song together, but in this old interview she did they were apparently not on great terms then either. Here is what Mariah said back in 2010:
"On her new album, she and her mother duet on a delirious O Come All Ye Faithful. Patricia, a vocal coach as well as a singer, had noticed her daughter's musical leanings, although Carey never wanted to sing opera herself. Are Carey and her mother close? She looks stricken. 'I'm sure we were when I was younger. There have been complicated moments. At least having the duet is something I'll be able to have and say this is her, this is a special moment and I'm glad we did it.'" This is from The Times by the way.
Toxic relationships with your mom are especially hard to severe. You'll always want to receive what love you can from them even if it comes with some pain. I guess Mariah could no longer tolerate the inevitable pain her mother would bring.
Alright back to lurking.

Yeah, I think you're right. I've been listening more closely. The thing is there are so many voices intertwined that I thought I was making out something else. Sorry.
That aside, I also like Loverboy Firecracker more than the Cameo version. It's just cheerful and enjoyable. And doesn't Mariah sound like having a little cold in All I Live For? Lol.

"The tone and power of her voice was out of this world." Absolutely yes. The intro of "One night" makes me want to listen to it again and again. Her Daydream voice was kind of magical.

Sorry to hear about your husband getting Covid, I hope he is much better now. I just wanted to apologize because I accidentally told you to shut up. By the way, I've been coming here for almost 20 years, without posting much, I come here for news on MC. I even contributed to the book that never happened. But I noticed that initially I was credited, then one day Eric took credit for my contribution. He must have found his own copy of the VH1 Super Audio CD because he replaced my name with his but it's okay because I'm probably not the only one this happened to. I also noticed that my messages are not being posted when defending my comments, yet there are ignorant and insensitive comments that continue. I guess if I had my own website I could choose only the messages I agree with instead of being impartial. I have been coming here for many years, many times a day, but there's many other places I can get news on MC which I think will be best for me. Wishing all of you well, deuces.

Yes, I agree. One Night is a track that I cannot get over. How was this not released? Mariah's voice is just so smooth and beautiful. With her Daydream era voice, she could have sung absolutely any lyrics with any words, even if it didn't make sense, and I still would have been like, "That's beautiful." The tone and power of her voice was out of this world.

It's funny how people will say she lied, just because her interpretation [of] the same event didn't totally match theirs. But he actually confirms what she said, that Motorola [sic] put a knife to her face at a dinner party. Corey and Walter are jerks IMO. Both should've stayed out of her business and neither should expect friendship or loyalty from her as neither of them gave that to her.

Xavier, I cannot really find a bit that isn't clear to me. What do you think you are hearing? It is a very "busy" song but I love that about it. It feels as if lots of people are walking around on a boulevard near the beach in shorts, smartly dressed, as the sun goes down, the atmosphere electric with possibilities. And Mariah is walking around them with her girlfriends humourously pointing out potential consequences. The video would have epic. The song is so much fun. One would have thought it would cheer some Americans up.
Also agree with John. HWGRA and All I Live For and Firecracker Loverboy are genius. Mariah made a few mistakes with choices during her career. Hiding these tracks surely ranks amongst the worst. As does not making YDKWTD the lead single from MIAM. Which is also a genius upbeat ball of fun.
Cheer up everyone. It's Christmas soon.

Will I'm surprised you didn't see his response to the book. It answers two questions. The first, the reason why they don't work together anymore, and the second, he was one of the two people who witnessed the butter knife incident with Tommy. He went in on Mariah calling her a liar who has been lying about Tommy, JLo who he says has never done anything to her, and himself. I'm confused why he added himself into the mix because I can't recall her ever mentioning him at all. He paints a different picture saying Mariah was belittling Tommy at dinner and that instead of exploding he picked up his butter knife and "tapped it" on her cheek saying enough. Not sure how that shows restraint or how his response was ok even if it's true she was belittling him. My question is, if she was, what was the reason? I can't picture her walking in and belittling him in front of mixed company for no reason. He claims he is now going to let the real truth out only to delete the tweet later. I have a feeling Walter was the other witness. Here is a link to a pic of the tweet.
