Re: DVD compilation of Mariah's SNL performances (92,221) (92,231)

I wonder why she didn't return to SNL from 1992 to 1996? Did she not get invited to perform during that period? Or maybe she's too big for the show (she was in her peak around the aforementioned years)?

How I love the "Homecoming Special". She seemed to have so much fun plus she looked stunning and sounded great. The high school kids were also really cool and her old classmate Chuck. I can't tell how often I have watched the special, one of the bests.

Terna I agree with you, I'd rather it be solo if it were to even ever happen. Not so much because of the haters, more so that I'd rather just hear Mimi. I personally think her duet versions of solo songs and even cut and paste raps added on are subpar, such as Against All Odds, IBLYLT, A No No, even When Christmas Comes and Whenever You Call, but especially Angels Cry. And don't even get (caps) me started on those MIAMTEC rejects from Angels Advocate. I've listened to them once maybe. So glad that project was shelved. I would have rather heard the Jump Smokers remix album over that genericness. So I vote no to a duets album. I can't be the only one. Rant over.

I agree that was the last well put together video. It was fun and and she was funny (y'all know I love when she brings on the humor). The fact that it really did look like a Target commercial makes it even more hilarious to me. I also agree that she really went outside of her comfort zone and I'm glad she took the risk because she made a great video.

Re: Carey struggling to sell tickets in Vegas (92,223)
by Nikki from usa

Radar Online is owned by the National Enquirer. This is tired and old. Mariah's residency is still a month and a half away. She has consistently sold out or close to it days before the performance. Which is common for Vegas residencies. This isn't news, this is exaggerating and jumping the gun. Again. All residencies and even major tours have discount tickets available at those sites. They all have deals with Live Nation that offer it. In fact, it's especially common place for all summer shows. Which begs the question, why is Mariah being specifically targeted for this? I don't believe this crap anymore. A few years ago, one of these sites reported Mariah's tour was "flopping" and named two dates claiming it didn't sell well. They stated her team was getting people off the streets to see her show for free to make it look good. Then, I looked at the actual numbers for those dates at the box office. Guess what? The first one had sold out at 92% while the second was sold out entirely. Take gossip with a grain of salt. If Mariah wasn't selling than they wouldn't keep offering her more residencies.

DVD compilation of Mariah's SNL performances (92,221)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Mariah always gives her best when it comes to SNL performances. Her performance of My All was the only one that came close to the studio version. She did not dodge any notes on that song. Even for Touch My Body she did not lipsync the climax as she always does in every other performance of that song. Her label or SNL itself should compile all her performances and release it on dvd or online. Below are the songs that she performed live on that show: 1. Vision of Love (October 1990) 2. Vanishing (October 1990) 3. Can't Let Go (November 1991) 4. If It's Over (November 1991) 5. Butterfly (November 1997) 6. My All (November 1997) 7. Touch My Body (March 2008) 8. Migrate (March 2008)

This may not exactly count as a "televised performance", but can we treat it like a holiday? I loved the Homecoming Special where she went back to her old high school. I loved her singing "Memories" as she walked the halls.

I woke up this morning with "I'll just sit right here and sing that good old school shit to you, I won't fool you, I won't make you be my own, And oh baby you know..." I knew immediately it was obviously Mariah and from MIAMTEC but will admit the songs name didn't come to me straight away. I just love how she can create that kind of magic, not the No.1s or other hits, but just great album cuts like Dedicated that resonates.

Speaking of televised performances, what is it about the "We Belong Together" performance from Jey Leno in 2005 (wrap around blue dress) that gets YouTube all rilled up that they delete it as soon as you've uploaded it, while sending you a warning to desist or get your account terminated. I have that particular performance and so I tried uploading it and the action was immediate. Other users got the same feedback as well. Is it a copyright thingy?

Contrary to popular belief, I don't want Mariah to release her next number 1 featuring Bruno nor Drake, or any other artist for that matter. I want her to hit number 1 by herself. That makes it more genuine and the trolls cannot attribute it to the featured act. She's still got it and can still churn out a massive hit. And I believe the lambs both old and new will support her with streaming and radio, Vevo etc.

Nice subject. In no particular order, some of my faves are, limited to ten:
1. America the Beautiful 1990 at NBA finals 2. If It's Over - both SNL and Grammy performances 3. Hark. The Herald Angels Sing 1991 at Good Morning America 4. Vision of Love 1990 at Good Morning America 5. I'll Be There 1992 at Top of the Pops 6. Fly Like a Bird at Grammys 7. With You huge pink dress version 8. Chain of Fools with Aretha at Divas Live 9. Without You 1994 at Top of the Pops 10. Endless Love 1994 with Luther at Royal Albert Hall 11. My All 1998 at SNL (bonus) 12. Emotions NYE meltdown version for the nostalgia (bonus)

Televised performances (92,214)
by Dove from United States
| |
|

Is it really expensive to keep performance videos up? I really liked the Jimmy Fallon one with the short pink sparkly dress when she sang The Distance. I even like the one with the huge pink dress and the men dancing around her when she sang With You. And when she sang IWTKWLI on The View. And Bye Bye in the short black dress on American Idol. It would be nice if they had those in high quality for us to watch.
What are some of your favorite televised performances?

Yeah, you're exactly right. I don't mind the vanity shot videos sometimes but when we get something different it's such a treat. Like UOMF or Obsessed. I really like the parts in With You where she's just walking down the street. I just rewatched You're Mine and some parts of that are nice too. I think my all time favorite video of hers is Fantasty though.

Rumour has it, it was young Ms. Swift. Mariah's demo album was going to be called 1989 but Taylor named her album that as well.

It's aesthetic is quite unique. Not many videos out there choose red when going for monochrome. It is practically a Target ad. Before the new AIWFCIY video came out, the UOMF video was the last that felt like a real production that at least some thought went into. Mariah and Nicki actually sound and look great as a tandem. It also seems like the last video where Mariah stepped out of her comfort zone (which isn't really saying much) and was open to making a fool of herself (just a bit) and trying a wider variety of facial expressions. All the rest that followed last decade were just a bunch of glamourous vanity shots that alternated between these looks: the sultry, sad, longing gaze, the "yeah I still got it, riiiight?" come-hither look, or the sweet wide toothy grin. It aged well.

Book plus anniversary debut album plus the demo album (92,208)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |

In conjunction of the book "I Had A Vision Of Love" and the 30th anniversary of her debut album "Mariah Carey", I would suggest for the management to release M's anticipated demo album that was rumored to be released in late 2014/2015 but was cancelled because according to M someone had ripped off the idea and visual. So 2020 would be the right time to release the demo album together with the book.

Next album/era (92,207)
by B from USA

I think Mariah has at least one or two #1's in her and that she can make another comeback. Caution is an amazing album that like Charmbracelet was about damage control and if she releases an amazing collaboration with Bruno as the lead single from her next album followed by a song featuring Drake she can tie and possibly break The Beatles' record.
