The shade of it all, so basically his most successful songs are with Mariah but she has so many major hits without him. I agree they had magic, but he betrayed her and choose money/status or whatever over her. He took so many producers credit from Mariah, we all know Mariah is the true producer of all of her songs. Mariah deserves to have 18 #1s as a producer. Mariah Carey is the legend she is because of Mariah Carey, did people help her along the way? Yes. But everyone of those people can thank their success due to Mariah.

Tommy and Thalia congratulate Mariah (91,806)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
I don't know which of Mariah's recent 19th #1-related Insta post did Tommy congratulate her in (he seems to have deleted his comment after all the bashing) but there's this screenshot of it where Tommy basically congratulates her as Santa (a reference to the role he played in the video), jokingly reminding her of the time he said that she wouldn't turn into Connie Francis. He ended the comment with "we did it", which I guess is what ticked most fans off. (And is a classic example of men having to reassert their role in a woman's success.) Below his comment, Thalia also commented a series of congratulatory emojis.
Mariah did respond to the man, saying "always the jokester" or something to that effect.
Oh well. With Mariah acknowledging Walter's role in the documentary and then this, I guess all is well until the memoir drops. We'll see.

I like that the heroine of the video is a mixed race girl. She's like little Mariah in a way.

I love the scenes with the choreography against the Art Deco background. A nice reference to all these Old Hollywood musicals. MC does old style glamour very well.

Lol yes not too sold on the red bodysuit, but on the whole a pretty good video, very festive, with some kind of storyline and very little in the way of excess boobage and self touching. She should get this bloke to direct her videos from now on (though suspect the record co only stumped up for quality director because this song is an assured seller). The old one was fine for those that remember 1994, but it did need freshening up for todays market, and this video has the right amount of self satirisation to have appeal.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, the new video for All I Want is out and it's pretty good. I'm not sure there's enough going on in it to make people restream a second or third time and I think there might be some comments about a possible camel toe but it's fun and professional looking.
It's been a pretty good Christmas for Mariah and Mariah fans. Happy Holidays everyone. Ciao.

I been looking everywhere for this new interview where Mariah spoke on all I Want and actually gave Walter his credit. Talking about how Walter thought the melody was simplistic because Mariah ain't a good piano player, but Mariah wrote most of the song before she went to him. If Walter was this genius, he would've had one major hit without Mariah. I honestly don't even know what songs he wrote. Men always try to take credit for women's work. Just ask Taylor Swift.

Walter A (91,798)
by Will from Australia
| |
|

I would love Mariah to work with Walter again to see if they can recreate that magic but I reckon it could sound dated and not for this moment in time. He worked a lot with Leona Lewis on her debut as Simon Cowell tried to reinvent Mariah and although I like Leona and those songs, they went nowhere and are forgotten. I really hope Mariah talks about what really happened with Walter in her book and confirm or deny that he was a rat for Tommy

Her points for the current week are: #1. AIWFCIY - 290 #2. Circles - 286
Next week early projections: #1. AIWFCIY - 374 #2. Circles - 288
She’s leaving everyone in the dust if this is true.

The only time I bring "negativity" is when I defend Mariah or artists I like. Or when I go after you. I have tried so hard to understand you. Me and you have gone back and forth more times than I count, and every time it's because you try to smear Mariah. Mariah has has had her best year professionally since 2014, she finally has her confidence back and it's only going upwards. I wish you loved Mariah today as much as you love the 90s Mariah, I became a lamb during Triumphant era and that song was my jam. The remixes proved to me that nobody in industry could still sing like her. Btw that nobody heard.

Honestly, I think she's been standing up to claim a lot of songs she co-wrote his Walter A. are hers because she already had the music in her head and lyrics on paper. Yes, there are some songs that they sat down and collaborated together and such. But I think for AIWFCIY and Hero are some of the songs she went for a walk or into a room and those melodies and lyrics came to her. Because she's not a trained pianist so she needs someone to play the melodies she heard so that they could write the music notes.
Recently, she seems to be amicable with him by mentioning his name in the Genius and Amazon Music interviews. To me, that was very surprising. They don't talk to each other anymore but it's a chapter that she's closed and moved on.
To say that he's under Sony and there's no other alternative is somewhat hard to believe. It was his or Tommy's choice. Mariah still made #1s and Rainbow under Sony/Colombia. Unless Mariah explicitly said no to working with any producers that had an exclusive contract with Sony. Thus, I can see she continued to work with Babyface, Jermaine Dupri, and then recruited Jimmy James & Terry Lewis, and others.

She sang Oh Santa and Christmas Time Is In The Air Again. Wise move since AIWFCIY is already everywhere. The main vocals are fully live you guys. Plus these are the most comforable she has looked performing on TV in a looooong time. Best part is she actually looks like she's having fun and wants to be there. Such a treat.

You are the one bringing negativity here, somewhat ironically. A debate has indeed become a squabble.
I still don't believe you can claim to have a number 1 record in 2020 if the sales that achieved it were in 2019. But I realise and accept that it's the title that crosses over. Even if the sales do not.
Thank you for praying for me.

Agree, Oh Santa is a good song in its own right, it's just a shame it will forever be compared against the timeless juggernaut that is AIWFCIY. I absolutely love the "cheerleader chant" that the song has, and agree the upper register is fantastic. Although MCIIY is not considered one of her best albums, it really is a nice complement to Merry Christmas, with some beautiful moments. O Come All Ye Faithful with Pat, When Christmas Comes, The First Noel and One Child are just beautiful.

If Mariah will collab I would rather with someone whose not established, like someone's career she can help launch with her as the main artist and the new talent as a feature, like a reverse Lil Nas X - Billy Ray Cyrus situation. Merely collabing with another diva won't cut it. Its always about the right song. That magic.

Excuse me, I actually meant university but same shit, I'm 12 as Mariah.
Me and others wrote to you multiple times before you caved in. Also it's not about this incident, you are the most negative person on this board. Every chance you get to smear Mariah, you are there with full force. I have been a visitor for years and I'm not talking about 2-3 times. You act like this woke Mariah stan when in reality you just bring negativity. I pray you find happiness in your life.

Trying to be clear on a point that makes no sense to you is something you should ask your teachers about. It is helpful in understanding the world. As is dealing with your extreme emotions and trying to be rational and calm.

I know Oh Santa is not the universal appeal of AIWFCIY but I have to say the fun of the song, the clapping, the cute Santa "Ho Ho Ho" and the placement of those whistles. It always puts a smile on my face. so I can never call it a lesser version of anything. It isn't about that for me. The song is adorable. Yes the performance on Late Lare with James was playful a joy to watch.

This is further proof that Walter can't keep his story straight. At least Mariah has a consistent narrative of the events. And what is Walter on about saying Mariah never shared the credit with him? She literally just namedropped him in the Amazon mini-documentary of the song. It's clear who's the drama queen and attention-seeker here and it's not the one one who has a five-octave range. He's a good producer, but it's obvious why he hasn't made a mark post-90s.
On a shallower note, with Tommy and Walter, Mariah seemed to learn her lesson and hasn't trusted any opportunistic guy with a receding hairline since the 90s. But then again, Mariah just got her 19th number one so we love everybody.
