Article: Why veteran artists should stick to three new songs (89,201)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
I disagree with this article. This guy clearly doesn't get the sentiments of true Mariah fans. As someone who saw her Caution World Tour Concert, compared to her usual tours, I think it's actually quite refreshing to hear her sing songs she has not performed or rarely perform. This is true for both her newest album and her older/back catalogue. I looked around a bit during the concert here in Minneapolis. It was a good mix of younger and older people. Many knew even Mariah's newer songs from Caution, and even the older folk enjoyed the new music as well. I was surprised at how many people actually sang to the lyrics of 8th Grade. As much as Mariah's hitmaking days may be behind her, I think so long as she continues to make quality music that people can relate to, concertgoers will appreciate hearing them live.

"Her voice has changed but she can still sing." The veracity of that claim will depend on what you would refer to as "singing". Mariah's issues are far deeper than her voice "changing". However, let us not debate this again for you hissy fit at accurate observations which are adverse to your goal of defending Mariah at all - including the truth's - cost.

I remember. TJ you already know according to some lambs anybody who gets these awards before Mariah are less than, as beens, or needs these awards to be relevant again. The same doesn't apply to Mariah now that she's getting it. I thought you knew the rules. Lol. There's only been one person I didn't agree with getting an award of this type. It's not that she didn't deserve it, she just hasn't reached that music icon status in my eyes. Now had it been a movie award there would have been no complaints from me. Lol.

Charmbracelet / SHM-CD (89,195)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
I just got the SHM-CD version of "Charmbracelet" and I have to admit that the mixing is superior to the standard CD. There is a clarity in the vocals and a balance between the vocals and the music that offer a much smoother and way more enjoyable experience compared to the original CD. I could say that "Charmbracelet" truly shines in this format. I'm so happy.

Someone's on the wine. Mariah's problem is she doesn't understand what people wanna hear. Remember hearing: "But inevitably, yeah" when she used to sing it low? Great. Her ad libs like "no nuh" are unnecessary. It's like the "Higher than the heavens uh-buh-uhv." It's "Higher than the heavens "uh-buhv". It would actually sound good if she dropped the extra nonsense. I dunno. I know the voice has pretty much gone, but if she can still sing and hit some high notes to popular songs like ABMB then why not? ABMB is everyone's hug and smile song. A medley so I be awful. She does them so stop and start and fills the interludes with "Do you remember his song?" Tragic. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Top of the Hot 200 chart, with 200,000+ in sales. The first R&B at number one in a year, since The Weeknd's last. R&B is not dead, it's just been rendered unprofitable, with limited radio formats and dwindling tv outlets. I'm looking forward to the return of Video Soul. Hopefully it won't be on some remote, or streaming only channel.

Personally I feel MC needs to wear something that is comfortable and allows her to move with ease, but since we all know that MC loves to play into the diva persona she will wear something very dramatic with heels where she cannot move much which will make her stiff and uncomfortable on stage. I just want everything to go smoothly and want the masses to be reminded that MC is still a major player in the entertainment industry. Hopefully MC and her team are putting together the best presentation possible.

Always Be My Baby (89,190)
by Bill from the UK
| |

If MC does sing ABMB it needs to be the Mr. Dupri Remix and she needs to bust Da Brat out of jail to join her on stage. The original is great, but she can't sing it live, let's face it. It will be the usual "but inevitab-" and then the backing singers will chime in with the "ly" because it dares to transition two notes higher than what she was singing in, and after the climax that's been lipped since 1997 we will be treated to her either barking out "gonna linger on gonna linger on" or an off key "and weeeee". The remix is much better suited to where she's at vocally now and it's something different yet familiar. Pink yet lavender. Love to all.

It was confirmed she's doing a medley of her biggest hits. I hope she performs songs like Make It Happen, Dreamlover, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, and A No No instead of performing a medley of ballads. Doing so while wearing an amazing dress, not a mermaid gown, would do wonder for her image. I would love to see Mariah perform in jeans, a white t-shirt, and a pair of black Louboutins.

Icon award (89,188)

Is it just me, or was a lot of the lambs very happy that Mariah didn't win the year Janet got her award, arguing that it was only given to persons that had nothing left of their careers? I haven't read any of those comments this year. Anyone who remember?

Definitely pants. Or the exact second ensemble she wore at heart radio. the one where she actually walked.
In terms of ABMB, instead of lipping the climax with an awful and obvious transition, she should break out long whistle notes. If she can still do them.
However, does anyone honestly believe she's not going to statue herself to the spot in a sparkly gown and sing We Belong Together?

I think it is very obvious and fairly certain that she will do a medley very similar to what she did on Idol. She'll run through her biggest hits (we all know how uncomfortable she is singing songs she think her audience doesn't know - even at her own concerts so forget an award show) and she'll plug in one song from Caution in the end like she did with Beautiful on Idol and it will most probably be A No No. I don't think that'll be too bad. I'd be happy if she even wore something similar to the Idol performance. I have a feeling Tanaka will try and pull off out there choreography like he did at the AMAS with With You. As much as we'd love her to wear pants or jeans and sing something unexpected - it ain't happening. I trust she'll do good.

Agree. Thought about that too. ABMB is probably Mariah's most accessible song, which for her is still relatively easy to sing. Something even casual listeners know and can relate to.
Whatever she decides though (medley or just ABMB) I hope she arranges the songs to make the transitions smoother, and choose parts that she can actually sing live still. I also hope she decides to ditch the long gowns and super long extensions that age her and make her look unapproachable, non-relatable, and inaccessible. I can't even begin to tell you how many non-Mariah fans and casual Mariah fans actually find her sexy when she's not even trying - like her wearing jeans, black shirt, and jacket in Make It Happen, or jeans and white shirt singing Fly Like a Bird in Idol. The gowns are overly cinched, heavy, and make it awkward for her to even move, much less even draw enough breath to sing. Please move around, interact with the audience, Mariah.

Aww, she's being a fan girl with her own personal fan boy on payroll. Eyeroll to him. To change the subject up and off of Mimi, Madonna who did actually hook up with Tupac, blamed him for her acting a fool on Letterman on the 90's. I think it was in 1994, she appeared and said the F word 14 times. In her memoirs, she said hanging with Tupac made her feel so gangster and aggressive, to paraphrase. She is the epitome of lame blaming and talk about "appropriation". Onward.

I think now I know what you mean Ribbon B. Maybe Mariah is a just a real big fan or really a bit obsessive. Like with Marilyn Monroe. She adores her so much. She named her daughter Monroe, bought the piano and so on. I often read that Tupac loved Mariah's music especially "Vision of love". He had good taste. In a lot of articles it is written that Mariah regrets that they didn't get the chance to really meet, romanticize and do a record. So that would explain the t-shirts. Not to forget that Bryan seems to be a Tupac "fan" too.

So even though my medley would be the best ever, I now think Mariah should just do ABMB and get crowd interaction for the do do do's from the different sections with the "I see you up there" and be herself. She could even add a third new verse. That would be ground-breaking and a talking point.
I got the Icon Award yeah Bllboard want me to stay And I like that you like me And Mimi's not going away
Something like that. She has it in her to so something out of the ordinary and make it a talking point of her career. Something like that would be sick. And Mariah wear pants and walk, own the stage.
I get pumped when Mariah wins awards and does TV performances. Don't let me down, Mariah. Show them your confidence and that you are Mariah Carey.
