Thank you. I see your point of view. I was just hoping for a huge bop in Stay Long Love You. I could barely understand Gunna. It will have to grow on me.

Caution vs MIAMTEC (86,104)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
I feel like this slightly like debut vs Emotions. The highs of Emotion doesn't quite reach the highs of the debut album (aside from The Wind), but the debut album is less cohesive than Emotions. This is a similar situation. The heights of Caution doesn't reach the heights of MIAMTEC (so far, no song on Caution could beat Faded, Make It Look Good and YDKWTD for me), but MIAMTEC is a far more cluttered album, with too many fillers stuffed in it. Caution is a more concise, cohesive album than MIAMTEC.

Fallon / Caution / sales (86,103)
by Shezz from Pk

The Fallon performance looked and sounded great. I couldn't quite tell where she was lipping if she was. Everytime I thought she was lipping, she'd change the note up in the end. Re-recorded vocals or live, don't matter she did well and I liked her ensembles.
After finally getting my fill of Giving Me Life (reminds me a tad bit of Beautiful Ones though of course without the hair raising vocals) I gave the other tracks a chance and did really like all of them though I do agree the texture and the tone is a bit similar throughout, some can call it repetitive others can call it cohesive. MIAMTEC was more diverse and had more vocal moments for sure. That being said I do love the album, wanted more from Portrait lyrically but I'm really happy with the album overall.
Lastly, has anyone seen the iTunes chart or sales projections? Last I saw she was at #4 on iTunes. Strange if Glitter got to #1 I thought Caution would have flown there. Anyway, great promo still left, awesome roll out, kudos to the team. Lets hope they don't abandon it too soon.

Honest opinion (86,102)
by Fresh from USA

Love MC to death and I don't really want to bring anyone's spirit down but this album just doesn't do it for me. I'm actually almost quite surprised at the lack of stand out tracks. E=MC2, Memoirs and MIAMTEC have ridiculous amount of great songs. I'd say 80% of the track listing were memorable. However, in this album, the only songs that stand out are: The Distance, With You, A No No and Portrait. The Distance definitely has the power to save this album. With You is melodically great and is very special. The only problem is that, the intro is too long and to be quite frank the "with you with you with you" she does, kind of feels awkward because it doesn't fit melodically with the rest of the song. I feel it should've been removed and just have the instrumental have a moment. A No No can easily top the charts. Give it a video it deserves. Promote, stream and maybe a dance challenge that can go viral and you got yourself a number one. Portrait is a good ballad. But very mediocre if you compare it to "Petals", "Outside" and "I Wish You Well". Again I'm not hating, it's just hearing a not too excellent album by MC, for the first time, is bizarre to me. It's something I'm not used to. All in all, I can't say Mariah didn't work hard, those 4 songs that stood out were still a labor of love. I guess I just have to accept that times do change, producers change, collaborators change and that will essentially affect the quality of music MC releases. Still excited for this era: I can't wait for A No No's MV and I'm very thankful that Mariah seems to be in a good place and is still creating. 30 years darling.

She did good. I couldn't stop dancing. She mostly sang so I'm happy. I would have liked more movement, but I got some vocals so I'll let the movement part go.

Caution: Randy's review (86,100)
by Randy from USA

I love Mariah Carey and she loves writing songs. So on her 15th album, is it no surprise that she picks up a pen and takes the helm at crafting a cohesive project? Unfortunately, like a reviewer said about her 9th album, Charmbracelet, all of the colors and styles attempted on the album mix together and wash themselves into a pool of muddy brown. It's not ambition that dulls this set; its monotony in the second half. Oh, don't get it twisted, the album starts with GTFO which in my opinion was never given its due as an amazing single, but it lets you know MC is not playing with you. The first official single is the second track and that's all I'm going to say about that snoozer. The title track comes next and it is an interesting warning to tremble ahead. It's definitely a thinker's song. A No No has the biggest hit potential on the album. The Distance took awhile to grow to listenable, as it was released as a B side before the album. Originally I thought it was boring but boring begins with Giving Me Life, and no an alternate ending doesn't save it, and lasts until you get to Portrait. Mariah's obligatory introspective song. I love Portrait. I am glad that the album is ten songs and under 45 minutes as a nap shouldn't be so long as to interfere with one's sleep. This is the second to worst MC album and the only reason it's better than MIAMTEC, her worst in my opinion, is because MC had the foreknowledge to not torture her fans and keep this descent into legacy diminishing short.

Caution era (86,098)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I'm a bit disappointed with the album. I think the best songs are already released, and I don't think she will get a hit. But I'm very pleased with the era anyway, she gets plenty of press, and I think the Caution era shows us that Mariah is a legend, and with the good planning of the whole project, the business treat her with respect.
I feel like in every interview they don't try to sell the album as a huge hit or whatever, but think it's good music by a pro artist, and Mariah gets the attention. It would have been nice to have a Billboard hit to go along with it all, but I like the atmosphere.

Runaway (86,097)
by Liz Archer from Sweden
| |
|

I don't get why this isn't the lead song on her new album. I don't even see it there. I would claim it's one of her best song compared to her new album. Sadly the last songs in the new album (like One'mo Gen, 8th Grade etc) I just can't relate to. They are not super catchy or lyrically interesting. Runaway however I recognize immediately could have been a huge hit. Of course, this is just my opinion. It has a very interesting sound, definitely radio and streaming worthy. I'm confused. Why hasn't it been released as a featured song?

I want Mariah to say [censored] it and leak the original version of Loverboy. Wonder why she hasn't done so, is she contractually unable to do so? It would make sense since it was the leverage she used to free herself from Sony and Tommy.

Thanks so much for posting this. This is one of the best interviews she's ever given. I'd go as far as seeing as good as that "lost" Rainbow interview she gave that surfaced a year or so ago. This is probably because, for once, the right questions were asked and her audience were her fans. I really can't wait for MC's book to come out. Part of me doesn't care about all the drama in the background, I'm more hopeful she goes into meanings behind her lyrics, where she was at that point in her life, and her creative process rather than Tommy dressing her up in trousers and a turtle neck.

Caution review (86,092)
by Liz Archer from Sweden

I take back my previous statement about this album. I actually like many of the songs. It just needed to grow on me. That's the dangerous things with certain high expectations. You expect to hear certain sounds and wish for old vibes to return. TBC.

Jimmy Fallon / Genius / Memoirs / Caution (86,087)
by Will from England

I'm so happy that she sang it live. Nice dress, not a ballgown, good vocals and hit those notes. Also, brilliant Genius interview and we need one of those for every song, tangents included. I'm surprised no one has commented on the fact that she confirmed that her memoirs is indeed on its way and she's writing it at the moment. I really like this album, it sounds cohesive despite the numerous producers. And I like she touched on this during the Genius, on how she makes sure that she comes through. The vocals, despite being fixed in her upper whisper register, sound very pretty and fit the mood of the album. What I really love is how different of a sound she's going for, and truthfully, the majority of the songs I can't say "Oh this sounds like this, this sounds like that", with the exception of Givin' Me Life (amazing song and brilliantly executed). So far, the promo road for this album has been done very well and we should be very happy with how it is going.

My take, Caution (86,084)
by Stacey from USA
| |

Portrait is my favorite song by far. The arrangement is classic Mariah, what I've always loved about her.
Why I'm still a fan? Because she produces amazing songs like Portrait. I closed my eyes as I listened to the song. I loved the raspy belts. The song is so Mariah. It felt so Butterfly-esq. My favorite of the album. I kept thinking why weren't there more songs like this on the album. The rest of the album sounds the same. Different beats, but still the same formula. Maybe other songs will grow on me. *shrugs* Time will tell. In the end though, as I've always said, even if the album doesn't grab me as a whole, I'm always grateful for those songs that I do like. Grateful she made Caution because I got Portrait.

Still playing this song non stop. I love it. I wish this was on the US version. I put this as my second or third favorite from the album, behind A No No, and Portraits.
I still can't believe Mariah and Skrillex worked together. Also on a side note, somebody find Stella and demand the demo tape back.
Also I hope when Mariah sings Portraits live she either mixes it somehow with Petals, or she goes crazy vocally at the end, with how it should sound if she didn't hold back. (One can dream right?) Lol.

Exactly. Mimi signed on to be Stella's sister wife in crime. Speaking of the witch era, I was surprised to know that Cindy Berger now represents Diddy. Her name was mentioned in the sad news about the death of Diddy's ex, Kim Porter. Gone too soon.
