Re: All I want for my birthday is to see Mariah Carey (85,904) (85,913) by B from USA
Andy, you're delusional. No one comes for you until you come at them or disrespect Mariah or members or this board.

No, the point was every message that makes it through is written by you. As for whether or not Eric was being serious or not I don't know and honestly I don't care. It was only mentioned because he seems to post every despicable message you write.

Ariana (85,909) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
At this point to be quite honest I really do not see the comparison. Mariah is an established icon who has not only sang some amazing songs but she is the creative songwriter behind these gems. She also has created timeless bodies of work that have lasted the test of time. On the other hand you have Ariana who is now almost five albums in and still no sign of classic material so far I get a trendy new artist with songs of the moment that have yet to prove she is a legend in the making. Time will certainly tell. But I will say she is one of today's popular artists. On another note to me Ariana's voice lacks soul, depth, and passion but I say she is ok with her instrument but she has yet to wow me with anything almost five eras in. But in due time we will see if she is just hype or actual substance. But I wish her well and much more success.

Re: Ariana (85,907) (85,908) by MusicfanJ from Germany
To compare Mariah and Ariana is a joke. Sorry but this Disney kid is not a bit like Mariah. It's bubble gum pop with RnB elements. She tried to copy or was forced to copy I don't know, but she's not a real artist. Pretty and young with an ok voice that's all. That she is so hyped in the US, I can't understand. The teens in Europe know and love her of course too, but I don't know anyone who is listening her music. Lady Gaga has more fans here I guess.

Ariana (85,907) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
The problem with Ariana is that 4 albums into her career (with a fifth on the way led by "thank u, next") she still has shown very little creative potential to carry her career through the next five years whilst maintaining her current popularity. Social media has accelerated the shelf life of artists so much. Even Katy, GaGa (Shallow still can't soar to #1) and Rihanna are struggling to get hits these days, when basically anything they touched turned to gold from 2008-2012. That really was not too long ago. Ariana took 5 () years to score a #1 hit that isn't even on her latest album that was released just 3 months ago. Her career moves highly rely on hype and trends, and no matter how bold she and her fans think of her artistic moves and merits, the end result is almost always underwhelming. Something is just off. Her voice just lacks the heft and conviction (and perfect enunciation) of the quintessential diva. That alone makes her output quite lightweight and much less impactful.

With that being said, as much as we all know that the Mariah-Ariana comparison is invalid, the reality is that what Mariah was to us in the 90s and 00s is what Ariana is to today's generation. Since they simply cannot relate to Mariah anymore, Ari is their wide-ranged diva-in-the-making. Yes, it seems like such a downgrade, but it also emphasizes just how lucky most of us lambs are to have been be able to witness Mariah's then domination and epic 2005 comeback.

After the back-to-back blockbuster successes of Music Box and Daydream, even the harshest, most skeptical critics had to begrudgingly admit to themselves that Mariah was in it for the long haul. Ariana's success so far doesn't seem as hopeful, with her youthful appearance and image that no one will be taking seriously when she turns 30 and especially her pleasant but flavor-of-the-moment material.

Re: Caution top 4 so far (85,890) (85,906) by Terna from Nigeria
1. GTFO. I was hooked with the very first listen and it's still my favorite out of all the four tracks and is in heavy (all caps) rotation.
2. The Distance. I liked it at first play but then it digresssed a little bit and then kinda picked back up again. Lol.
3. With You. Took a lot of plays to get into but I love it enough to not skip when it comes on and the video enhanced the song actually.
4. My Least favorite. Doesn't mean I don't like it which I do, but I like the other three much more.
Caution is easily gonna be a solid Mariah Carey album and a favorite of mine.

Re: GTFO, next (85,899) (85,905) by Andrew from UK
It baffles me, truly, that nobody else I'd all over this. If Ariana has not lifted GTFO in its entirety she has done a bloody good job of making it sound like a carbon copy. She is disingenuous and unlikeable. I predict she will not have a long term career. Actually, I merely hope she will not. And you're on my list, now. You just made me watch Ellen. My eyes are bleeding.

Re: All I want for my birthday is to see Mariah Carey (85,896) (85,904) by Andrew from UK
Lol so basically, take BS for years from everyone else but don't give it back because everyone starts crying when I do. Not sure that's as much fun anymore. Even the (God forbid) private conversation that I spoke about was in the same vein a direct result of some idiot popping his head up and constantly coming at me. They can dish it out but when it's given back they play the victim card. And everyone else on their behalf. Dear everyone: your victim cards have expired. I repeat, your victim cards have expired.

I post a message to someone else trying to help them, you reply to me with a nasty message. I respond with "good luck", you respond with another nasty message. I respond with a nasty message and you cry that you're a victim, I'm a bully, Eric has it in for you and you pathetically ask other people for new messageboards in an attempt to manipulate. Again. I think you were provided with them, so, to quote you, "Move on". Ten bucks says you do not. Twenty says it's more bullshit from the queen of bullshit. Remember when I was upset over Martyn's death and you popped up to attack me out of nowhere? Yup. Signal your virtues some place else. I already know who you are not. I hope you feel better soon.

With You growing (85,900) by enwar00 from usa
I'm pleasantly surprised to see With You randomly showing up on U.S. Billboard airplay charts. It jumped to #11 on Adult Contemporary and is the greatest gainer for the week, even climbing faster than the Lady Gaga song which is more popular overall. It also debuts on Adult Top 40 at #39 and is the highest new entry on the R&B/ Hip Hop airplay at #41. Hopefully it will continue to grow as the album rolls out and there's more promo with Mimi back in the States. Maybe it will become that sleeper hit after all. The charts don't dictate whether I like a song or not, but they're a fun added bonus at this point when they happen.

Re: GTFO, next (85,889) (85,899) by 123 from USA
Now this post Andrew is more your style. I not only agree with you but have receipts. Here is Ariana's Spotify feed where it shows her listening to GTFO when it was released. Then when she sang her new song (which I do like) on Ellen, the oddest, most pr obvious intro. "This is Ariana Grande and she is singing a new song about her last relationships." Then the performance. She messes up (cute recovery but was it on purpose), the almost breaking down crying (she's a trained Disney actress), I hope all random and not a cleverly staged performance for sympathy and interest. Looks like the music isn't enough for a #1. Her manager proudly called her the next Mariah Carey on Twitter (and added "yeah I said it" afterwards). Clearly she isn't and should have just been pushed as a new talented voice.

Hi Will, mine is as follows:
1. a No No
2. GTFO
3. The Distance
4. With You
I'd like to add that I like all 4 songs and there isn't a "bad song" in the bunch. I do believe there are stronger songs on the album. I don't seek to play With You but when it comes on during my Caution shuffle, I don't skip it and end up singing along as it gives me a happy, don't give up on love feeling.

The only HD videos from Mariah (and almost every other artist) are the recent ones (2010 onwards approximately). My All is from 1998.

So because people have commented about your pic that makes it right? That's rich coming from you and a poor reason. What happened to all that vocabulary you like to throw around? You can't think of anything else but to go low about people's looks, private conversations, etc? Do better, be better instead of stooping down to a level you should be proud to never sink down to. I know I've never bashed your looks so you might be talking about someone else so take that argument elsewhere. All I'm saying is it's wrong and I won't stand here watching you bash another person because they are delusional in your eyes. Get off Bs jock, it looks sad.

Re: All I want for my birthday is to see Mariah Carey (85,887) (85,894) by B from USA
It seems like his messages are the only ones that get through. You attempted to humiliate and/or shade me by saying you were considering changing the name of the message board to B's message board which was hurtful considering I've visited your site daily since the day it launched. I don't know what I've ever done to upset you and for whatever it was I apologize. I consider each member of this board my extended family except for Andrew, who attacks me mercilessly because instead of focusing on the negative I focus on the positive. I haven't decided if I'm leaving the board permanently or just taking a hiatus from it, but I cannot take the unrelenting negativity. Everyone knows 2018 Mariah Carey can't sing like 1990 Mariah, but she can still sing and she's still releasing quality music 28 years into her storied career. [Webmaster: I wasn't humiliating or shading you, it was just a little joke. Lighten up.]

That's really good that you got your tickets and will be seeing her. I hope you have a great time, I'm sure you will. I also hope you get to hear her sing her new songs for the first time, should be a real treat.

A No No (85,892) by Bobby A from United States

Re: GTFO, next (85,874) (85,889) by Andrew from UK
I don't buy Ariana's message at the moment. I can't by into her having virtues as she comes across as a stuck-up bitch. She's a donut-licker. In more than one sense of the word. I don't think writing songs specifically about people is a nice thing to do. Mariah has the decency not to name drop. However this is absolutely the same song as GTFO. It is infuriating that this has done so well.
