Re: Album? What album? (82,281) (82,282)
by Andrew from UK

So people are pissed off if Mariah is choosing money over artistry by touring and not releasing a new record, and now RocNation is becoming a target for apparently "forcing" her to tour so they can make money? This is absurd. Mariah is likely touring to make herself as much money as possible before her career ends. From Stella's own foghorn she said she was hired to make Mariah money. If Mariah wanted to release an album and then tour in support of it she would simply do so. I personally think they understand a Greatest Hits set will sell more than a tour in support of an album nobody is convinced could sell well so they are going with that. It's frustrating for fans because it has become tedious to watch her stand still on stand on and lip-sync to the same old shite. But everyone should look at it this way: it stops her from making any more Christmas movies. Every cloud...

Touring is definitely where the money is. But I wish she was touring in support of new material rather than past hits, which she has overdone since 2015. And it's not like she does much in terms of shaking up the setlist. Neither Vegas nor a few regionalised concerts are good platforms for a megastar to promote her new album, so I guess it's safe to say we won't be hearing anything new anytime soon. I don't mind her touring even when if she doesn't sing 100% live. For me it's about being in her majesty's presence, and the lay listener usually can't tell the difference between live/lipped. But I don't think there's much to be gained from all this excessive touring other than filling Roc Nation's pockets, as if she needs to prove her worth once again. She's only diluting her catalogue.

Re-release old albums (82,280)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
After the impending era, which will be massively successful, breaking many records (including The Beatles most #1 singles record), she could re-release her early work. The album and a DVD with a bunch of her best performances and interviews from that album cycle. And the best pictures. Maybe unreleased tracks and really amazing live versions of the songs on a separate CD. It could come in an album sleeve but instead of a record, there could be a few CDs of content. If they did this I hope they would include digital content too. Some artists sell it separately to make more money but it would be generous to include it with the physical copy. It could be released on the anniversary of that album. One or two per year and do it right. They could also sell merch from that album cycle, like replicas of the jewelry she wore, a little black hoodie (like she wears in Fantasy), the heart necklace she wears in her early videos, the butterfly ring, the two bracelets from the Glitter cover, the belly chain from Butterfly, the outfit from the Butterfly cover, the little black dress from her self titled album, the red hat from Glitter, the charm bracelet from Charmbracelet, the pink top from the Heartbreaker video, water glasses with pictures from the album cycle or coffee mugs with her quotes. Even the diamond necklaces she's been wearing recently. They'd have to be fake, like moissanite or something, but girls could wear them to their proms and weddings. But you have to make her "cool" to the youngsters. And sell her merch at the trendy stores. And Amazon for us older people. We don't like to pay for shipping. Once she solidifies her status as the best artist of all time, she could live off of her back catalog, not tour anymore, and just make studio albums when she feels like it. I hope she would keep doing the Christmas shows, though.

Even though she doesn't have Stella she still has new management and they are going to expect her to make money. This is called show business for a reason. Roc Nation signed her and will work for her but she can't just bank on the money in her bank account. She has to make them some new money and unfortunately we are living in the era of touring not album sales. I truly only want one more album/era from Mariah then she can seal her legacy as a touring act as far as i'm concerned. (Had MIAM been a big success I would've been fine with that being her last CD tbh.)

The best attempts at duplicating WBT (by Mariah) (82,277)
by Edouard from France
| |
|
|
To me, the best WBT "babies" are (in order): - Don't forget about us. Although I believe DFAU is its own thing. It's actually more of a ballad in the traditional sense of the word than WBT. Only the bridge of DFAU reminds us that Mariah changed the game with WBT. The rest of the song is very melismatic, in the veins of early Mariah ballads. - Inseperable (I love, love it, so fresh, so intricated) - You're mine eternal - You're mine eternal (remix with Try songz) - I stay in live (I never liked it, the loop never ends, and I find it boring, the live version at the AMAs is way better in terms of instrumentation in my opinion)

Hey guys I know some of you don't like the song. I actually do. I believe it's fresh and subtle. I just wonder it's doesn't work better as a duet actually. Had the remix been the real version maybe it would've fared better. It would have been less of a ripoff of WBT. Whatchuthink?

Hey guys, I've found this remix on YouTube and it seems there's another line in this version that does not appear on the original mix. I hear: "Tell me why is love like supersize" around the first minute mark. Can anybody explain ?

Was watching the Fantasy video and... (82,274)
by Edouard from France
| |
|
|
The fact that the Fantasy Remix was and still is groundbreaking is a given. But the original pop/RnB version is just as much of a bop and a formula that many, many, many others have followed since the release. when you hear, pretty much any [...] uptempo you can hear Fantasy all over it. The beat, the looks, the adlibs, the vocal scales. I must say I don't like [...], I mean musically it's just so bland. There's an authenticity that Mariah's image and sound has, especially back then, than noone can compare. When Mariah appears on video she's clearly in touch with her inner child, having fun whit her sensuality and spirituality. Whereas the likes of [...], well the likes of Mariah really (although we all know there's only one Mariah), all play the babygirl card. They're posing, pretending to be an image. I really do believe that with Mariah, what you see is what you get.

That's so Elton John to me. Like one of his 70's album titles. Even "The Butterfly Returns" reminds me of the "The captain and the kid" - sequel to his Captain Fantastic album.

Album? What album? (82,271)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
How is she readying a different Vegas show and planning to tour Southeast Asia at a time she's supposed to be dropping an album. I get that albums don't sell and tours do, but I was of the impression that MC was worth half a billion dollars and didn't need to be concerned about money. She clearly loves being near her fans but hates singing live so why the hunger for money?Remember when Stella said her main job was to make Mariah money? What is this all about? I want MC to be a recording artist and drop music she's inspired by, not concerts where she lips half and doesn't move without someone holding her hand because she can't walk in heels.

"Our iconic chanteuse, Mariah Carey, just announced her new headlining residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, aptly named, The Butterfly Returns. This new show will spotlight a more intimate performance on The Colosseum's stage, showcasing Mariah's world famous vocals as she performs selections from her extensive catalogue of music. Fans can enjoy these live shows in July, August and September." I don't think this has anything to do with her #1's show.

MusicfanJ - I doubt she would do a whole album full of new covers but it would be amazing if she did. I would be thankful with one or two new covers too. Edward - that's way too long and way too cheesy, even for me.

What I'd love from this Vegas tour is rather than Mariah hocking her old hits for the 100th time, is for her to sing the Butterfly album end to end. Can you imagine how great that would be for the fans? It could be in celebration of what she considers her best piece of work's anniversary. It was lauded by critics and fans and I don't think she ever really topped it. She could pepper it with some alternative versions like the Stay Awhile remix of My All and then hoist Da Brat out for the Honey remix. Helicopter, stilettos, and jet ski in tow.

Dovie I love your idea with "the soundtrack of my life". Mariah is so great in covering songs and making them her own. A whole cd for the fans. But I also would be happy with one or two new covers by her.

I like the title "returns" for a lead up to the album to remind people of Mariah at her best. It also goes with the #1's theme because that was all around the same era 97/98. What I don't think would be a good idea is carrying it over to a new era with a new album. Ever since Memoirs she's been recreating past looks and trying to get off past success. I think she does have one more fresh new era with no ties to the past but a look to the future in her. At least I hope. I think maybe after one more well planned era then she should work on her legacy and past hits.

It would be neat if Mariah made an album covering songs that have been important to her in her life. In-between studio albums. For example a song her dad used to listen to when she was little, or a song she used to sing with her mom, the one that was her "song" with her first love, a song that was popular when she first moved out on her own, or the song she danced to at her wedding, etc. It may be cheesy but I love a cheesefest.

The Butterfly Returns / Vegas (82,260)
by CMC from NY,NY
| |
|
|
I'm excited for the return to Vegas and back at Ceasers Palace instead of a smaller venue. I hope it is new material and not just mostly number ones, mixed with a few other past singles. She needs to do more album cuts and songs like, The Roof, Close My Eyes, Faded, it's usually 90% fans attending the Vegas shows so why not please them. Mostly looking forward to the new music though, a fresh sound, with some party anthems, if she goes dark, do it in the way she did Side Effects, with a hard beat, and she tells a her story and paints the whole picture. Honestly I'm not feeling The Butterfly Returns as an album title at all, it's way too redundant and not in any way fresh or new. She's done the whole butterfly image for years now. It's time for something new, she can still blossom and emerge from her cocoon without referencing a Butterfly again or trying to relive the past for her new project. I'm feeling a one word title. Something totally fresh.

Thank you Deedre and Licia. It really was a great time and you are right, nobody out there does Luther like Ruben. There was a singer by the name of Abraham McDonald who won Oprah's Karaoke challenge years ago and he was incredible too. Sadly, he passed away this year.
