Toni Braxton featured? (83,870)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Has anyone seen the supposedly list of tracks for her new album? It has a couples of features and one of them is Toni Braxton. Is there any realiable source? I personally don't want her to sing with Toni, much rather have Beyonce. Just rumors?

New release (83,869)
by Billy from Greece

I probably just found on Ebay the "new" release that someone found on Amazon a couple of weeks ago. It is as yet untitled yet on the cover (that has a very nice photo of Mariah) it writes "Japan Best".

I'm hoping the difference will be the promotion treatment it gets, which Epic's press release hinted at the day GTFO was released. Even though this had a better rollout than any of her other singles from MIAMTEC, I believe "With you" will have a more elaborate plan with both Mariah and the label pushing it out more and maybe announcing more details about the album with it like the title or the release date. I agree in the past her flopped singles were dubbed "buzz" like TAOLG but the Epic statement about it came practically at the same time GTFO was released. I read somewhere "With you" was written by Mariah about Tanaka. That'll make some eyes roll I'm sure. I'm all for it as she seems to be genuinely happy with him but it also said "inspired by the keys of WBT" which made my eyes roll. Fingers crossed. I don't follow other artists as closely but does anybody know other singles by others that were dubbed "buzz"?

Great list and conversation starter. But I can't wait anymore. I am ready for the album now. However, one thing that I find interesting is how the weight loss has really helped MC's voice return at least to the Charmbraclet era vocals. We need to help MC have a With You number one debut on October 5. If it is a ballad with the big vocals that everybody has been wanting, then it shouldn't be that hard to push With You to number one on the Hot 100. We can do it.

In industry terms, a buzz single is a song that the label isn't required to promote. The song is released to the public without a push to radio, sometimes without a video or with just a lyric video or a video that cost very little to make. Record labels like buzz singles because if it doesn't get a good response they can use it as a reason to pull a bunch of shenanigans, from refusing to let an artist release an album to refusing to do a full promotional push. That's why some artists (Tinashe) end up with a bunch of supposed buzz singles with no follow through from the label. Very popular artists like Drake and Beyonce don't need buzz singles, because the label is very sure anything from those artists will sell. Despite her legendary status, the label apparently felt the need to release a buzz single so they can determine what kind of budget they want to allocate to actually pushing her album, or whether they will send her back to re-record and delay the album. And if the buzz single sells well, they get to collect without having to do much. They are obligated to push the real single to radio and create and fund other promotional opportunities, perhaps cutting a deal with radio for a certain amount of spins. So it's a money thing. It always is.

It's a song realeased with a video to go viral. To get people excited for what is to come. Clearly, GTFO will not be played on radio.

I would normally agree with you on the buzz single situation but this time I don't. But I don't fully disagree haha let me explain. In this one case I think GTFO was truly released as a buzz single but I think the reason they did so was to keep Mariah happy. GTFO is a song you know Mariah truly loves it has everything current Mimi likes. Slow jam r&b a few silly lyrics. So what do you do? You give your artist the buzz single. Shut her up and keep her happy and put out the label's pick as the "lead" single . It's kind of how Tommy would give Mariah the b-side (My All/ Breakdown ect).

I agree with all of y'all that said that the video was the typical MC standard nowadays look at me the sex kitten or the vain diva. I just wanted something to relate to the song I still love the song now I am curious to hear With You.

While we wait (83,861)

What one song from MC's catalogue would you consider to be underrated? Which song would you consider lyrically genius? Worst song ever? Lastly, if you could compile an album with only one non-single from each album, including one b-side, one bonus track, one unreleased remix and one Christmas song, what would that tracklist look like? Feel free to reply or ignore, it's all for fun. Here are my choices. Most underrated: Butterfly Lyrically genius: Outside Worst ever: Infinity Favorite compilation: Alone In Love And You Don't Remember Music Box Long Ago Babydoll After Tonight Want You Subtle Invitation Heartbreaker/If You Should Ever Be Lonely (Junior's Club Mix) Circles For The Record Ribbon Help Me Make It Through The Night Faded Slipping Away Everything Fades Away Hark. Buzz? (83,859)
by Andrew from UK

Somebody explain the difference between buzz single and first single when both have videos, both are available for sale, both are from an upcoming album. This is just semantic nonsense to manipulate the public when things don't go so well. GTFO is the first single from the album. Someone prove me wrong and I will happily capitulate if it makes actual sense.

Great to see Mariah in trousers for a change. I always loved that look, being tall she really pulls it off. Please hang up the leotards and lingerie and go with this sophisticated look instead.

Completly agree. The over-sexuality can be used for all the talentless out there. A real singer doesn't need it, even today. I can't believe Mariah still thinks this is the only way to sell music. MC had the most success by only showing her real talent. Singing and looking like a superstar without trying too hard. I hope the official single is a real video with a theme.

That really is noteworthy. A nicer blouse would have been epic. Something white and flowing would have been cute. She should wear slacks more often. Switch up her looks from her tried and true, because it's lying to her.

GTFO (83,855)
by Jared from USA

I don't often post here. I just want to say that I've been listening to GTFO every day since its release, and the song has really grown on me even though I didn't love it at first listen. My husband is really annoyed at the profanity, however. The song can't be played on the radio as-is. I have high hopes for "With You", and I'm happy to see that she is putting in the work by filming a video ahead of its release. We all know how disastrous other recent releases have been without a quick video follow-up.

I agree. I'm hoping "With You" (the official first single) will have a visually stunning concept. Mariah is not a dancer (too damn stiff TBH) and when it comes to videos, she needs them to be exciting and creative. GTFO video is like 100 other videos she's done. Seriously, she saying GTFO, but there's no one actually getting the [censored] out. It would've been so much better, if she had a man grabbing his things, maybe a little begging and showing her pointing to the door. I need and expect more from MC.

All hits. All "themed" music videos. America is "not" convinced she's a beauty/sex thot. Stop forcing it down our throats. You're a singer that's your gift. Not a model. She still has not gotten the memo.

WBT was epic because the song slowly build up momentum and the concept of the video had a narrative. It contained the required MC beauty shots yet they weren't annoying. Those two first videos from the TEOM era are cemented in my top 5 of favorite Mariah videos.

I agree about the shirt. This is the first time since she's started the Vegas show that I have seen something I've liked on sight. Imo the merchandise hasn't looked that great. That price throws me off a bit as well. Lol.

iHeart Music Festival (83,849)
by Bobby A from United States

Friday's iHeart music performance of GTFO if it happens, the crowd is going to go crazy. Also, Mimi must have gotten the memo by filming a video before the official first single is released. So far she is really trying to promote her new music. I don't know why I feel this way, but I don't think MC15 is going to get a traditional release date but instead a surprise Thursday at midnight release in October. Wouldn't it be something if she pulled a Beyonce?

Similarly in this part of the world. I was living in New Zealand when WBT came out, and Mariah hadn't been on the radio since the Rainbow era, with Heartbreaker and then the Westlife version of "Against All Odds". #1's, Glitter and Charmbracelet went unnoticed down here. As did "It's Like That". It wasn't until WBT came out that the public started enjoying her music again. It continued with "Shake it Off", "Don't Forget About Us", "Touch My Body", and then died a quick death with "Bye Bye". Even "Obsessed" didn't get much of a look in.

GTFO video (83,846)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |

I like the video it matches the song it's not a video that needs a story, the story is in the title that says it all. What carries it however are her expressions. And the way she glides through the song so effortless. This song just might catch on full time and become an unplanned hit. I'm already seeing GTFO meme everywhere on social media. Lol. There are funny moments in the video that cracked me up like the hand gesture and that eye roll at the 3:14 mark. Is it me or doesn't it look like her eyes are super bright here like you're almost staring into another world. So beautiful. Mariah hasn't aged since 1998.
