Absolutely stunning and made me extremely nostalgic over my childhood. Thank you.

Nice. Thanks. One of my favorites from the first Christmas album.

Cheers, mate. As I spent my half an hour shower this morning belting Till The End Of Time (badly), my journey to work singing Heavenly verses to myself and a good twenty minutes watching Mariah on YT I shall yang the ying with this: frolicking on a yacht and a beach with a beaming face? Not that sad about Aretha is she lol no more tweets please.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing (83,415) by Lee from UK
And the Christmas season begins for me. Here is Hark the Herald Angels Sing without the choir. This is just so pleasing to the ear.

Re: Ariana Grande - Sweetener (83,405) (83,414) by Tevin from USA
Sweetener, should be called Aspartame. Sweet and light at first, but lacking major depth and substance. I love Ariana and still like it or not she is the closest thing (not close, or even on the same level) but closest thing to Mariah in the popular music business right now. My problem with Ariana is that if you listen to her 4 albums, they all sound like they were written for a different artist, sure she has a wonderful voice but other than her first album and some of bad women, there is no depth and consistency.
Anyway I'm just going to sit here with my "Sweetener", and wait until Mariah brings the tea with her new album. Anybody else care to join?

I agree with you, Andrew. I inferred the same from the post. People give you a lot of flack for being critical of Mariah, but it's pretty obvious, on every single one of your posts, that you are a genuine fan of Mariah.

Re: Ariana Grande - Sweetener (83,410) (83,412) by Andrew from UK
The point was clearly that the albums are released at the same age and same time frame into Mariah and Ariana's respective careers so Daydream would be the correct comparator to Sweetener. What was difficult about that? And its hardly blasphenomoneonoemonous as it hints that Daydream is a masterpiece, which it is, and that Sweetener is a masterclass in pretentious bullshit from another singer desperate to show they have depth, a la Christina, but simply sounding deeply desperate.

Tommy keeping Mariah away from movies only delayed the inevitable shitfest that is her acting. Say what you like about him, the guy knew what he was doing.

Saying Sweetner is to Ari what Daydream was to Mariah is blasphomeous [sic].

Article: "Evita" goes Hollywood with Stone cutting deal to helm (83,409) by Dennis from Miami, FL
I read about this fact in Randy Taraborrelli's Madonna: An Intimate Biography many years ago and I never believed it. Recently I've been reading old articles on this site and came across this one. I'm glad that Mariah didn't star as Evita. I wonder if that was one of those movie offers Tommy never told her about as she was saying in the 1998 Barbra Walters interview.

Aretha memorial service (83,408) by RibbonB from USA
Is scheduled for Friday August 31. Hopefully it will air on tv like Whitney's service. This one should be massive and I would expect former presidents and other luminaries will attend. Aretha was a larger than life musical genius. Sigh.

I agree wholeheartedly with your review. But, all of the songs sound alike. Definitely a step down from Dangerous Woman. I almost bought it at Target today. MC is going to show everybody really soon how an new album should be cohesive, unique, innovative, and sonically on point. Are we ready for the new era? It is about to happen really soon.

Ariana Grande - Sweetener (83,405) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Ariana has been wrongfully considered as "the next Mariah" since she broke out in 2013. Her debut album was solid and the closest to Mariah she has ever sounded, and she has struggled to shake off the comparisons by exploring new territory with her sophomore effort, which, in capturing the sound of 2014 Top 40 so perfectly, meant much of it was generic as hell. Dangerous Woman was the first true sign of her coming into her own as the Mariah comparisons started to die down a bit. With her uneven fourth album, maturity still sounds awkward on her, and it stands on the weird position between rehashing previous surefire formulae and wanting to move on to the next thing. Max Martin and his protege Ilya clearly know what makes a blockbuster hit, hence producing Sweetener's two official singles, while Pharrell Williams works his quirky experimental magic on half of the album. Some of it doesn't work, but most really do, and there are less instant single material than usual - probably only R.E.M. and Breathin are the strongest choices. Pharrell is the real star of the show here, laying his trademark unconventional melodies against even more unusual backdrops that involve irritating spoken word loops, breaths as beats, woozy drolls, among others. Successful and Borderline are the better results of this throw-everything-at-the-wall approach. Overall, Sweetener is nowhere near vital pop. Its greatest success, however, is that it further distances Ariana from Mariah that their really isn't any point of comparison anymore other than the vast vocal range of both women. Even the harmonies in songs like Better Off and Goodnight N Go are more Jhene Aiko or Janet Jackson than Mariah. What this really emphasizes, though, is that if we were to draw one last comparison between them, at 25 years old and five years in the business, Daydream was to Mimi is what Sweetener is to Ari, and this speaks volumes about the calibre of Mariah's artistry.
Verdict: Competent, but a step down from Dangerous Woman.

Article: Mariah Carey's son made a Christmas song about boobs (83,403) by Gemma from Australia
I know this story is about Nick but Mariah should take care of what she wears around the kids now if Rock is talking about boobs lol because it makes you wonder where he got the idea from.

"Ain't No Way" is by far my favorite Aretha song I have life-changing memories associated with it. If Mariah covered it in a tribute I would probably have a nervous breakdown.

Agree. Listening to Aretha sing Amazing Grace (and Bridge Over Troubled Water) is like a religious experience.

The time has come (83,400) by OGmattyICE from US
My love for Mariah hasn't dwindled but unfortunately the time has come for me to sell my Mariah memorabilia collection. You name it I have it. All new and used rare posters, T-shirts, CD's, singles, 12" vinyls, 7" vinyls, cassettes, VHS, DVD, laserdisc, magazines, magazine clippings, pin-ups, Honey B. Fly stuff, official fan club letters from the early 90's and much more. So much I can't even count. I have religiously collected these things over the years and it's all in great condition. I've probably spent a few thousand dollars on all this and I hope it can go to someone who would like it. If you are interested please let me know.

Queen Aretha (83,399) by Bobby A from United States
I have been so sad this week remembering the Queen Of Soul. She was one of greatest singers of all time. She will be missed but her music will live forever.

Rest in peace to the one and only Queen of Soul. When she meets George Michael in heaven, she would say, "I knew you were waiting for me."

Aretha (83,397) by CDC from CA
There are just a few artists that have been so consistent and omnipresent yet still so beloved that it seems like their voice and face are as familiar as our own family members and Aretha was one of them. I've been watching plenty of news outlets memorializing her life and it seems different than the way we reacted to Michael's, Whitney's or Prince's deaths, in that there is no hysteria or speculation or a race to get answers. She lived to her seventies, so it was a fuller life lived. This time, our reaction feels like the appropriate farewell she deserves. It reminds me more of the way we reacted to Luciano Pavarotti's death - like saying goodbye to a beloved uncle. And now it feels like the world lost a beloved aunt.

Ain’t No Way (83,396) by Ethan from United States
It’d be great to have Mariah work with Mary J Blige again for a duet of Ain’t No Way as a tribute to Aretha. I’m not sure if that’s too soon for an album. Mary and Whitney had sung this for Divas Live in 1999 and I wish to hear Mariah and Mary’s version. I’m hopeful for a cover as Mariah tends to do one for her album but we will have to see and wait if she even does one this time.

Oh my gush (83,395) by Andrew from UK
O Todd, Aretha would have known how respected and adored she was, me thinks. Dead people can read Twitter, right? Oh, wait. What I find really shit is the plethora of celebrities who fall over themselves to write the biggest load of gush and search out pictures of themselves with the dead person as though trying to capitalise on the person of the hour - the dead person of the hour, no less. Every time a famous person dies a competition ensues to see who can get their gushfest quoted by the press alongside the mandatory Beyonce twaddle. I can let Mariah off this one as they were close.

Thanks for that post. Finally someone else notices those things. And a week ago none of those songs would have charted on Itunes. RIP Aretha, she will be missed greatly.
