One Heart, One Voice (109,477)
by T from USA

Just heard OHOV. I've been asking for a Mariah and Walter collab my whole life (since I first heard Lead The Way). I have to say that Mariah sounds amazing. Her voice is just pure magic. Walter did her right, and my guess is he would never do her dirty on a record. He loves her voice as much as we all do. I do admit that she could've been subtracted and say Celine could've been injected with little to no change to the song. It is kinda standard, without the "Mariah touch" that she would add if she co-produced with with Walter.
I've waited 25 years for this. I've asked for it publicly online since 2010. I've got my wish however, my real wish would be something more in the vein of Underneath The Stars/Fourth of July. I'm not an A/C nut, I'm a good vibe nut, and like it or not, Mariah+Wally always created a good vibe.
I can rest now. Enjoy MC16 everyone, I'll play OHOV for the next 25 years. Bye bye.

What's your thoughts? (109,476)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

Call me crazy but it's crossed my mind, more than once that on Type: Dangerous' delivery - Mariah deliberately played down all of her vocal abilities. Kind of like she did for the Mimi sessions. I'd like to see someone use AI tools use her rap-singing on that to upgrade their song enough to compete.
This is why, as much as I beg for a rockumentary, I don't need her raw vocals in the studio or onstage in full because some weirdo might digitally abuse it. All those stems on YT are a double edged sword. I don't understand why she, Sony especially, just people get away with it.
I agree with you that the song T:D is mid, in terms of what we know she can do. I felt the same with ILT. This is clearly not the best of her and still bops. It's a good feeler to put out but it also puts a lot of pressure on the second single/video (really the whole rest of the album) to hit it out of the stratosphere. If anyone can pull that off though, Mariah can.

It's a decent song but very forgettable for Mariah's standard. It will fall in the same category as Triumphant, Infinity and GTFO. And to be terribly frank, it didn't deserve that high budget of a video. However, it is great to see Mariah flex her wealth knowing how many people come for her money. It's her way of making them feel dirt poor. Still nonetheless very excited for the rest of the album. I can not wait to hear the Gospel record. Or maybe we will get another "Sunflower For Alfred Roy" moment, dedicated to her mother. And I absolutely cannot wait to hear what she cooked up with Anderson .Paak.

It's tii-iime - for Team Mariah to accept that the U.S. is no longer her primary market (109,475)

A Lambi after my own Kawaii. I'm sure you've had flashes of brilliance.
I think my points were probably lost in Google translate. At least that's how I'm choosing to move forward. They're just things that crossed my mind. We all have those. I want team Mariah to have pow-wows regularly. I've never heard of Mariah doing that. The secret to successful brainstorming is letting every idea have a chance to be heard and not placing any negative or too positive value on it in front of the team. That goes for the entire team including the team leader. No idea is a bad idea. That way when people actually have brilliant ideas, they're not afraid to voice them or worse, want to keep it all to themselves. That kills creativity and obliterates the team spirit.
The only time I ever questioned anyone about the point of their ideas was when this guy was literally designing and building a weapon of mass destruction. All he basically wanted was to get rich. He didn't like me very much after even though we got along pretty well before that. He had better ideas that didn't involve the taking of lives. But, I digress.

Baby had solid ideas, it's fresh and made perfect sense. With your logic, does winter always mean Christmas? Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, The Philippines, New Zealand - all experience hot humid Christmases. Have you not thought of that?

Why Mariah needs to curb AI from using her vocals (109,472)

I don't like the current trend of spreading AI songs using Mariah's voice. It somehow feels like people trying to dilute her artistic brand because out of all the vocalists that we in modern times have heard and know intimately over 35-40 years?
Of course it's tempting to use MC's voice when it makes even the most basic song sound amazing but it's not fair to her or the listeners who might buy a song because they just like it, not knowing it's fugazi Mariah. Imagine if this had happened if AI had existed in the 90's and not just auto tune? I mean, this is JLo's dream come true.
Mariah's the only one who's tone has been quite impossible to replicate. The DJ Clue quote comes to mind of how Mariah's "often imitated but never duplicated"?
Except now she is, even though it's still noticeably not her because the flair is missing, the Mariahness is missing and that's probably because she's always produced and her artistry is so distinctly hers. She builds a wall of sound with her voice so it's instantly recognizable but I worry for the younger generations - they maybe won't know the difference. Their ears have not been trained to, and maybe I'm being dramatic and that real music lovers will always know the difference no matter if they were around when she first debuted or not.
But yeah, I don't like it. Vocalists and other creatives need to band together and copyright their vocals. She's insured her legs for a billion dollars when she barely uses them anymore ( sorry y'all, I had to do it, just once in my life ) when her "Music Box" is where all the magic happens. I know a way she could very plausibly curb it. It's never been done and I want her to be first.
And before anyone starts, I'm sure she's already insured her vocal chords, throat, diaphragm, mouth, esophagus, lips, teeth, nose, tongue, arms and hands. I'm being as vague as I can be so It's okay if you don't get it.

I'm so glad you got it Tegin, being an American and all. I was worried that wasn't going to translate well. Because MC being such a powerhouse in Asia doesn't take away from her American crown. Anyway, I just wanted to throw a monkey wrench I've held onto for years (since TEC tour) in 2014. Such a juxtaposition of her status in the US while literally breaking attendance records in China with 5 sold out Stadiums- back to back. Mariah was the first Western artist to ever do that. We haven't heard of anyone else surpassing that 250,000+ attendance. It was barely news the first time. Hopefully, Gamma will do better about steering the media flow back to her international popularity and non-AIW legacy.

Guys, it's 2025, enjoy the music. Chart positions don't define greatness anymore. Mariah had an unmatched prime, let's celebrate that. We're blessed to have experienced "The Voice" at its glory, and that's something truly special. Mariah's a one in a lifetime experience.
I don't know about y'all, but I feel lucky to have experienced her greatness. Most artists on the charts aren't even close to her level. Maybe it's the wine talking but I'm at peace with everything she's given us. It's been an incredible ride.

I don't want her or fans obsessing about charts, its should always be about the music. But if that's what motivates her to create and be busy with, then that's a pretty good reason to do so. Some of the big artists that came after her and those before Covid are currently struggling, everything moves so fast now. So for me, TD is a success.

I think that MC subtly posted a picture this week in front of her platinum records that she had returned to studio to record some more songs for MC16. MC wants a number one song on the Hot 100 again with MC16. TD falling off the Hot 100 has made her team go back to the board room for MC's next steps to release MC16. She has never said before that she had been locked away in the studio working her behind off. I hope she gets what she wants this time with her 16th album release like a couple of number one songs and new Grammy Awards. I believe if she makes her next single a song that is stripped back from her glamorous life and is just a song people can relate to, then she will have her 20th number one song. I hope she is taking note to my several X messages this week. MC hasn't blocked me yet after my #Can'tLetGoOfLoveTakesTime message.

Because Mariah literally said (through Gamma) that she wants to surpass The Beatles record. I don't understand why fans even question that Mariah is not obsessed with chart numbers. She literally gets annoyed when people miscount her #1s and reminds people of her song of the decades. I'm not saying she shouldn't, she earned it but I am just surprised when fans think that Mariah doesn't care about it.

Mariah even charting on today's Billboard is enough. Only in a rare scenario will she score a number one at this point in her career. There are several reasons. She's reached the age in the business where they (ridiculously) think a woman is done, no matter how good she looks. Again, her brand hasn't grown or changed in 20 years. She doesn't really fall under being an "entertainer". Her voice is no where near what it was even 20 years ago, so a namesake ballad like she used to do, seems unlikely to hit... which if she can't do the one thing she's known for, then what else is there?
All that, coupled with the fact that the business has always been fickle with Mariah. Any other female singer can wear something showing her chest and they will call them sexy. Mariah does it, and people say she's being trashy or desperate. If Mariah did something like Beyonce with the country music (that wasn't really country), she would have been mocked or ridiculed, not seen as brave or daring like Bey. She certainly wouldn't be able to wear clothing on tour like chaps with no pants with her behind out without being raked over the coals for being inappropriate.
She has always been held to some higher standard than everyone else. Sometimes, I understand it, but other times it's really been unfair to her all these years. Could be the precise reason that she doesn't really radically try something different like she did with her sound from Daydream to Butterfly. I'm just hoping for a good album.

The song is literally a present and appreciation for us and DJ's for their support. As it says in the song in the beginning. Only us, the real fans know the references in the video and clues from her life through years.
The fact in got so many attention is great. And she will build more momentum with new singles.

Now that the hype for TD has cold off, what is everyone's thoughts on the single? Personally I think it was a fun song and I hope it makes it on MC 16 and doesn't get regulated to buzz single status.
I do think one mistake that was made with the song was the fact that Mariah broke her code of making her songs ambiguous. Songs like Obsessed and ILT was clearly referencing situations in Mariah's life, but lyrically the GP could connect and relate in their own way to the song.
Where in TD whether real or fiction, the lyrics was about Mariah Mariah Mariah. The presentation was to immature for older listeners, while the call backs and references flew right over younger listeners heads. To be honest, it's a good song but if I wasn't a Mariah Carey fan, I could care less what type of love interests she is interested in. That's why I think its failing with the GP.
I'm sure Mariah has even better songs coming. I just hope she has something that is relatable to the GP. Something that's catchy and simple, yet has depth to it, to appeal to all listeners.

The psychology of it (109,458)
by Haiji from United States

Ok from what I've seen with many TD reactions outside of the lamb reactions, they've all had positive reviews with the song and video, with the exception of 2 reviews saying "she's too old to be making this type of music" and "this song is corny af". During reactions, at times they would pause the video, speak, rewind and as the songs plays, most of them would sing along, as if they already knew the song. This song, whether it charts high or not, is a catchy song. A lot of the reactors even mentioned wanting to hear more new music from her. Mind you, these weren't lambs. So what I'm trying to say is, we might not get exactly another Mimi era with the second single being massive, but if she continues to drop good songs, with great videos and heavy promo, the gp will eventually catch on to her music again, with the possibility of gaining another comeback era. But she needs to stay consistent. A remix should've been dropped already. Guess we'll have to wait and see and just enjoy her wonderful catalog.

I hope for the other songs on MC16 is that MC has more relatable lyrics that her audience can relate to. Lyrics with themes like love and a broken heart, finding love, losing love, being happy and in love, and having a good time. This is why Morgan Wallen's album has multiple songs on the Hot 100 right now. His whole album has songs that his audience can relate to in their own lives.

I just think she's at a point in her career where she isn't gonna have big hits anymore. She got more attention than most legacy artists do but it's just the way it is I'm afraid. Even Cher's Believe moment probably wouldn't happen in today's music climate. I think she did extremely well on those other charts in the USA but for the Hot 100 I think those days are long gone. I might be proved wrong but people just don't buy or stream legacy artists as much, that doesn't take away from Mariah's efforts or artistry, it's just how it is. Everyone has their peak moment and then ultimately comes the slump whether what you're putting out is good or bad. I'm really interested to see the Barbra trio and what MC16 brings but at this point I don't think we should be expecting a huge return to the charts for Mariah. Her image and persona is on point at the moment and I can tell a lot of work has been going in to protecting that and building up the public's view of her. But that's gonna take time, a lot has happened over the years to make people turn away. The best thing that can happen now is for this to continue to protect her legacy and image, and if she gives us new music then even better.

What's your thoughts? (109,456)

What are you thoughts on TD?

I don't think that was recent. It was a few years ago when Mariah was given the Icon Award by Billboard.

Why are you guys so obsessed with Mariah having a #1 why does it matter if she is being recognized and she is being exposed to the world so you think the general public cares about being #1 no so get over it.

It looks like TD fell off the Hot 100 this week. Okay, no WBT clone as the second single. I hear the Lambs. I say that MC should return to the studio and record five more songs with the likes of Rodney Jerkins, Ghost-Kid, and Mel and Mus and drop MC16 in September. Send MC a message on X with your collaboration requests. I sent my Rodney Jerkins and Sza collaboration request yesterday. What Sza and Rodney Jerkins did with Shirt is the type of song MC needs to launch MC16.
