Mariah's Christmas (78,669)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
You guys should do some research on what "breaking news" means. Mariah had a scheduled interview to talk about her upcoming Christmas projects. This was all about holiday cheer. The fact this guy didn't do any of that, but just informed her of breaking news she has no idea about, doesn't have the details to, and this isn't her jurisdiction, is uncalled for. Her job is sing. She doesn't need to keep up on tragedies or speak on them if she doesn't want to. That's her choice. She should've never been put on the spot like that. It wasn't the purpose of her segment and its original purpose never happened. She was smiling and her face fell. She didn't know if she was on the opposite end of a twisted joke or if he was telling her the truth. She had no idea what was going on. I'd bet anything the self righteousness here would be out the window if someone shoved a camera in your face, put you on the spot unawares, and had everyone criticize every idiosyncratic moment you did. It doesn't matter that she's a celebrity who's used to talking about her music projects. She's not improv or someone who makes speeches. No amount of spotlight is going to prepare you for that situation unless you're a professional news anchor.

Re: Mariah/Celine/Whitney: No nom for Hall of Fame (78,666) (78,668)

I believe it can happen for Mariah Whitney and Janet, but Celine - not much hope there. Just not enough credibility in that community. Even though I never gave the RRHOF much clout and believe its losing relevance as time goes on, it would be nice for some of Mariah's famous items to be exhibited in a museum, like her Merry Christmas jumpsuit and the spray painted Rainbow album cover tank and bottoms. The issue is that there really isn't much of a precedent for Mariah's induction. Other than the poor Donna Summer, to whom they dangled the prospect of induction right above her nose for years and then finally did it the year after she died. So tacky. And just looking at previous nominations lists, the RRHOF reserve only one spot on the ballot for a solo female act. So if they let Janet and Whitney in first, then Mariah's chances should look good and it might be more palatable to some of those angry rock purists who would prefer that more one-note/one-hit-wonder conventional rock bands be acknowledged for half the accomplishments of a Mariah-type. But who knows how long that will take, so let's let Cher, Patti LaBelle, Dolly Parton, Chaka Khan and other pre-Reagan era women, who've waited even longer, have their moment first. Now if that forever rumoured Hip Hop Hall of Fame can get off its feet, then I would join a voracious online campaign to help get Mariah noticed.

Beauty line/projects/tours (78,667)
by Nikki from usa

I do believe it was just gossip that she and Stella were looking for a place to open together. A few months after that story we found out MC was overseas and helped create a new cosmetics line for Dead Sea Cosmetics for the Israeli consumer base. She did a bunch of promo and ads over there for the line. I hate to break it to all the "she's overweight, so she has major health issues, and must be on anti psychotics because she can't walk in sky high heels" crowd, but with the music market sucking and uncertainties with her label, touring is a natural avenue to take. Yes, it's a bit much and she should slow down, but Mariah's been like this since day 1. This isn't a new development. How she used to do albums is how she's doing touring. Mariah's projects aren't businesses she's starting. She always collabs with other major businesses. It's no different than when she teamed up with Elizabeth Arden for her perfume lines. These don't cost her money. She makes major money off of them. It's not about steady income, it's about trying new things and being creative when she can't make music. She makes a celebrity line and it sells. She could put someone in place to keep the line continuing, but she doesn't need to. The candy place is well known for its cotton candy flavors. MC worked with them to create new flavors and is selling them. She didn't start a candy company.

She opened that candy store didn’t she? I think that was it rather than a makeup line. Makeup would make no sense to sell in a brick-and-mortar shop only tbh.

Hmm, very good observation about Stella and the promotion. Now that you mention it, she has been very quiet. Perhaps if she is still around, she is not in charge of her musical career. Wishful thinking to think she may be out completely. Maybe now that her name is associated with the All I Want movie and other behind the scene things, that is enough. Doubtful, but you never know. Speaking of MC in business with Stella, anyhow hear anything more on the makeup line her and Stella were going to do? Remember when they were seen with a realtor looking at storefronts in L.A.?

Realistically, how many of those very large venues would she pack let alone sell out? I'd say not many. On top of it, her useless team drops the ball on promoting the tours yet have all the time in the world to deny stories that they've collaborated with Gossip Cop to come up with in the first place.

Maybe Mariah really wants to be with her fans at this point and enjoys being on the road seeing everyone at the shows everyone who wants to really see her. I mean if it was all for the money wouldn’t she play a larger venues like MSG in NYC just once rather than the intimate Beacon shows? Idk I was just thinking that and I am shocked Stella has not yet posted any promotion for the tours, well that I noticed.

Completley agree with Mara. I also fear that she is getting burned out. Even when Mariah was 26 you could tell how hard all the touring is. And at that time she seemed very fit and she was so young. I think it's dangerous to live only for the money. Being well and healthy is so much more important. And I also agree that it seems like Mariah doesn't want to reflect her life and lifestyle. She's "running away" from something with all the work and you can already tell that it causes problems. My worry is that she won't stop until a new breakdown is there.

Touring (78,659)

I have to admit when I saw it last night that now we have a #1's tour on top of the Christmas shows overseas and in North America and Vegas. A possible Butterfly tour as well. She is going to burn out. First she goes from hardly ever touring, to touring non stop. This is enough to wear anyone out. What about the kids too? It's either all about the money or Mariah herself does not want to sit and relax, reflect. She hasn't slowed down since the divorce. I just hop she is healing and not running from something. Not to sound all "deep" or whatever. These kids perhaps are "citizens of the world" as she has said and perhaps do love to travel, but this seems a bit excessive. Since the Packer days, we haven't really seen the Capri Mariah on the boats like she used to do for some down time. They are pushing her too much and she isn't getting any younger. Tom Petty just finished his 40th Anniversary Tour last Monday and the tour started in April. He played 53 shows and did a show in Hyde Park as well. He was finally going to take some down time and family time and we know what happened. Again, I am not trying to be negative and am on the flip side happy she is out there touring, but it does wear on you and can be grueling. She really should take a little break for her.

Stella's not my favorite person at all but I have to be fair on this one. Stella said herself that she was hired to make Mariah money. (Anyone else still mind blown as all hell as to Mariah arriving to the conclusion that Stella was the best person to help her accomplish that goal?) Concerts are Mariah's only option. Actually, they're not her only option but we've seen ourselves that she has no inclination to start and keep running a good business. All her side projects do just that: go by the wayside after the initial launch and many are not that good in the first place. No money there. Mariah's expensive lifestyle and the useless clinger ons that she's invited to indulge in it are, however. So are the actual workers. That requires money to upkeep it all. (Amazingly enough this is still a hard pill to swallow for the $500M net worth brigade. ) Still doesn't negate the fact that these concerts are cheesy overkill and that we can all tell Mariah has health problems and needs a break but there we have it.

Concerned (78,651)
by Lara from Middle East

Regardless whether her team knew/informed her before or not, I'm concerned with her reaction. She stayed lying, almost frozen, any movement is extremely slow from her. She answered well but her body language was disconnected. Add this to her weight gain, I can't help thinking if she's on medication (more specifically anti-psychotics). If Mariah is also struggling, I wish her well and I need her team to take note from Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato's teams how to handle health/mental issues.

Nothing's wrong with Mariah's neck, stop trolling. Her face and neck look like that when she has a heavy breakfast. She'll be looking fine in no time. By the time the new album comes out, she'll be rock-n-rolling.

I have to agree. Although Mariah was put on the spot, she could have then sat herself up, looked a little shocked and asked for the interview to end. It would have been better to have said nothing at all than to have stumbled into Piers Morgan's trap. Hindsight is 20/20 or so they say. When I have read the comments on this interview, it surprised me how not one was about how awful the incident in Las Vegas was, or how Mariah was put on the spot. Instead, the comments were about how awful Mariah looked. As it says in John, chapter 11, verse 35: Jesus wept.

Good Morning Britain (78,647)
by Andrew from UK
| |

The issue wasn't Piers Morgan: he was perfectly right to question Mariah about it. If something big happens, the narrative has to change. Mariah was booked. She is a performer who performs in Las Vegas. There is a mass murdering at a music performance in Las Vegas. Of course they'd run with it. What's ridiculous is her cluelessness. A normal person may have covered for themselves with: "I'm here to talk about Christmas shows but from what you've just told me I don't think that would be appropriate. Let's shut this down." Must be some seriously strong meds. But equally ridiculous is how she looks like Jabba the Hutt. "Ohji foojo mohji, Han Solo." But it ends well because eventually Luke saves Leia, the Jedi defeat the Sith and the Stellactic Empire falls.

I agree, ultimately it boils down to her team which should stay up on the news and be ready to modify her appearances at the drop if a pin. Of course they are dumb and inept like on NYE.
