Andrew you are going to stop this now. I want you to listen to it in terms of lyric and melody. I laughed so hard when I read your one liner. You just suck the air out of any joy I get from MC. Don't make me reappear my case for RTD.

Concerts (78,131)

Just curious as to how many of us on the board have attended the "All the Hits" tour and what your thoughts are. I went to the Newark, NJ show and happened to sit beside someone who said she was there for Lionel and didn't like MC. After Mariah's set, I asked for her thoughts. What she said was very interesting to me. She said, "Well, the woman has amazing talent but seems like she is scared her voice will break down so she doesn't actually sing much. When she does, she sounds great." She went on to say that she would have preferred to hear MC go for it and miss a few times than not try at all. I was pretty amazed at this because I felt the exact same way. So in this case, a die hard fan and a non-fan felt the same way. Anyone else have thoughts about this?

Backup singers (78,130)

I am a big fan of MC's backup singers, especially Mary Ann Tatum. They all have phenomenal voices and look like they genuinely are happy when she has a good show and performs well. They also very humbly pick up the slack on rough nights. Anyone else notice these things?

Here is a video Mariah did for Vogue, where she takes them in her closet. It features DemBabies. Apparently there will be more to this soon. Here is a video to the behind the scenes of her shoot with Premier Cosmetics. She looks beautiful and ethereal.

The One is a gem (78,127)
by Edward from USA

"The One" should’ve definitely been a single. It's epic when she sings the verse: Once again nothin' jumpin' up in yo place Sick of your berry buzzin' all in my face Way too much to tolerate Time to roll Y'all know I gots to migrate I could never understand why they would pick "Boy, I Need You" over "The One". T-Pain definitely brought the song to a completely new level with those autotuned high notes. Definitely a missed opportunity, just like they did with Migrate from the Merry Christmas album.

I don't hate Boy. I listen to the song and I happen to enjoy the original song by Cam'ron. I just don't think it was single worthy. The One being the more superior song is definitely why I'm so bitter at the choice that was made lol. It's kind of like how everyone was disappointed that they released Bye Bye instead of Migrate from E=MC2

Andrew, you make me howl at times. I wouldn't say the song is shite but I agree, it is boring. The lyrics are good but I don't like the delivery.

The One / in defense of Boy (I Need You) (78,122)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

The One is special. It's the best Mariah & JD collaboration after We Belong Together, Always Be My Baby and Shake It Off. They probably ultimately didn't choose it as a second single because they didn't want to follow a ballad with another slow track. But in defense of Boy (I Need You), even if it is one of Mariah's weakest singles ever, I feel like most of the hate towards it is fueled by it being chosen as a single instead of the more superior The One. As a song, it's definitely polarizing mostly due to the annoying sample and whisper-fest vocals, but I can appreciate it as something that's different from anything else on Mariah's catalog. It, along with Honey, ABMB and Sweetheart, was one of Mariah's mid-to-uptempo singles post 1995 that actually dared to sound different (big hits Dreamlover, Fantasy, Heartbreaker and Loverboy are practically made out of the same mold). And Mariah looked really gorgeous in its whimsical, colorful video, that still holds up aesthetically to this day. Blonde Mariah looked her best from 2001-2006.

Unforgettable remix (78,121)

I love this sound for MC. This sound really suits her voice right now and is so fresh. I need more of this from her. Those whistles in the background really set her sound apart from anyone in the business. This song is hot.

Mariah's star (78,120)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I've actually been reading a lot of false press about this song lately. "The Star" is a song written by Mariah for the movie of the same name, but she doesn't sing it and it isn't her next single. This is another Faith Hill moment and another comedy Christmas movie. I think Mariah made a grand move by signing her Vegas residency and she's quite vibrant onstage. But, the keyword for these concerts is "temporary". She can have fun with it for awhile, but if it goes on too long she burns out. Her heart isn't in it and no amount of people is going to light a fire that isn't there. However, in all of her 27 years in the spotlight she hasn't put out a single lackluster Christmas concert performance. Her heart is always in those. Mariah and her lambily would be happier with her making new music. "The Star" will be interesting and her remix of Unforgettable is refreshing. In the future, I think Mariah shouldn't tour as much as she should pull a MSG thing. She could put together 1 epic concert and fill the arena. Holograms, fireworks, skits, Bianca, the works. Tape the whole thing and give exclusive rights to show it to one channel for a month. She can reap in that ad revenue. Then, sell it on dvd worldwide. At the end of the year she can allow it to be streamlined on Netflix. It's the concert that keeps on giving and will probably earn her near as much as her residency. Then, listen to people try to say she can't sing. Switch up the routine and do the same thing next year. It would help make up for all the tour dvds we've missed out on.

"The One" is such a forgotten gem and one of my all time favourites aswell. It's gorgeous; the lyrical flow, the mellow but cute vibe, the contrast between her vocal registers, the crack on "I've been there so many times", that riff on "relate", the ascending high notes. I dunno, I feel like I'm wrapped in sheepskin when I listen to it, it's so cosy, sweet [and] soft. If I remember correctly, Jermaine Dupri was arrested around the time they were shooting the video. They were treading carefully with Mariah's image at the time so scrapped it for "Boy". It's one of the never-happeneds that I still hold onto.

The One is my favourite song from CB. I was so stoked when it was announced as the second single, but when it got switched out for Boy, part of me died. Boy is one of the worst songs Mariah has ever done (only Why You Mad tops it), so my brain couldn't quite comprehend why that decision was made. To this day, it is beyond me.

I love [the] Unforgettable remix. [This] is the exact, fresh, new, relevant sound Miss Mariah should channel for her new album. It suites the evolution of her voice perfectly and I'm pumped she's trying a new sound. It's so 2000-now.

Wow, does the writer has a gripe against Mimi or what? It is Lionel's tour after all. She was performing her butt off all over the world while he nursed a bum knee. Hell, she is the one that was setting aside her ego so he could shine.

I love that Desert Storm remix as well. It was so much better than the official one that was released with Bone Thugs (hate that Billboard changed the rules about remixes). You could just tell she wasn't in a good space vocally though. It wasn't so noticeable in the WBT Desert Storm remix (in love with this remix too).

The One is my fave from Charmbracelet. I love the live version she performed on the MTV Through The Rain special. The song is completely underrated a gem indeed. CB isn't a popular album, but I enjoy it. Nice post Randy.
