Game of Thrones (77,263)

The sooner we realize that Rihanna is going to surpass Mariah's 18 #1's the better. At least it would be someone who not only respects her, but who also has been inspired by her, someone who, in spite of her pop status and unapologetic bad girl image, humbles herself every time she talks about Mariah or when her name is mentioned. I mostly listen to Rihanna's when I'm working out or when I want to feel upbeat, but I don't consider myself to be a fan. Why will Rihanna surpass Mariah's #1's? Well, Unlike Mariah, Rihanna tend to get featured on so many songs in between and during and after releasing an album that she'll score more than 21 #1's for sure, it's only a matter of time. I don't think it's a matter of comparing them vocally or artistically, if it's not Rihanna, it will be somebody else, just like Mariah broke many other records who had been set before she came as a force to be reckoned with in the music scene. As a fan, I do hope she keeps the OSD record for a long time though. That record is more significant to me than her 18 #1's. Only hard-core fans remember that Mariah wrote and produced most of her #1's, the public doesn't care much about that, they just see it as just another #1. The thing is that ever since forever Mariah's been promoted using her #1's that some people have gotten to resent that. At this point, I just hope Mariah stops chasing the next hit trying to desperately appeal to an audience that doesn't seem to be paying attention to what she's offering. I hope she concentrates on creating quality music regardless of hit potential; she's earned that right at this point in her life. Many of the artists labeled as "has been" have tried to emulate their previous eras and come across as desperate. If Mariah works in being consistent by taking care of whatever's left of her voice and couple it with great music, she would still have an audience for sure. We get disappointed and complain, but we're still here for a reason, not just because we like to suffer or troll.

Given that Wild Thoughts is #2 and Despacito is #1 for 10th week, what would you choose? The chance of Despacito breaking Mariah's and Boyz II Men's record or adding another #1 for Rihanna? Lol. It's amazing that Mariah's name frequently mentioned in Billboard whenever these artists break a record or something. Rihanna can have more #1s, but the pride of having 18 #1s as the lead artist, 17 #1 self-written songs, and 14 #1 self-produced songs in Mariah's name will forever be there. I can imagine if Rihanna will surpass Mariah, her intro in every show will be like "most #1 singles as a female lead artist". Lol. If this will really happen, if I were Mariah I will just settle with "female songwriter with the most #1 singles" introduction because it seems like it's more respectable and besides that's what she always complain in the media so might as well do that.

Sigh. I like Ri. I enjoy her music, but I really do agree. I would love MC to just come out swinging and to keep her record. Lolol.

I do understand what you mean. For instance, We Belong Together, I think suited her voice in 2005. I am not sure if 1990 Mariah would've been able to sing it the same way. Vice versa. Vision of Love, 1990 Mariah, doesn't sound the same on 2017 Mariah. Her voice is one of a kind and I hope that she gets rest and all that good stuff so she can slay this Lionel tour. People are waiting for her to fail and we all know what she is capable of. I think Licia pointed this out.

I like Rihanna. Is she the best singer? Nope. But, I do enjoy most of her offerings. Someone will dethrone MC, or maybe not. Maybe MC will come out swinging and rack up some more number ones. Who knows?

Yes, me too. I'd be down to watch this. I didn't really watch Mariah's World besides the one episode. Idk if I ever will. This seems promising though.

I think you and Lucia offer up great constructive criticism of MC. Ain't nothing wrong with that. I think it's welcomed here on the message board. However, not everyone serves it up the same. Some are just down right disrespectful. After all, we say it how we see it and it's all a matter of opinion. Hopefully the disconnect that she may be having will dissipate sooner than later. Team win for MC always, she's one of a kind and we know what she's capable of. Much love to you ladies.

That's what the Shaderoom does. They do it to everyone. Not just Mariah. That's why it's called the Shaderoom. I forgot you all only like shade when Mariah is throwing it out. Lol.

I am going to watch this too (heck I watched MW and gave lengthy weekly summaries so I'm not the most credible one around here), but I hope they keep it real and Mariah doesn't try to make herself look as a victim throughout. She has had her hurdles, more than her share, so just stick to that instead of added drama. The fact that it has people involved who were previously involved in reputable projects (everyone except Stella), is kind of a relief and gives me hope that this won't be a mess like MW. I wonder who'll play Mariah.

I heard this week "Wild Thoughts" is at #2, so that's scary, I was hoping Justin would keep the top 2 spots for a bit longer. Rihanna can never be Mariah, but that is more the reason why I don't want her to be the one to break Mariah's record. Like I would be fine if someone who can actually sing well do that. So I'm cool with Beyonce, or Adele or anyone with a singing talent that breaks the record (although selfish me would hope Mariah keeps it always), but yes, I really don't want it to be Rihanna. No hate to Rihanna, I think she's a fashion icon, I love her devil may care attitude, I think she's a beautiful woman, but I'm not here for her dethroning Mariah's record.

The media just hunts for a bad note or bad dancing and trys [sic] to destroy Mariah. They don't do it to Whitney, Celine or Madonna but always trying to tear Mariah down.

Rihanna can have hundred "hits" she will never be able to take Mariah's music "crown". Her singing is a joke and I can't stand her persona but that's another thing. Despacito is a classical summer hit, it's on heavy rotation in Europe. So maybe it will stay a while. I must say I'm pretty bored of the actual charts. Most of it sounds so similiar and uninspired.

I know I probably shouldn't say this but I'm glad this song is still #1. It stopped DJ Khaled/Rihanna's new song from reaching the top. Wild Thoughts is still in the top 5 and there's always a chance that it'll bounce back. Its airplay is still increasing. But hopefully that won't happen. I want Mariah to hold her crown for as long as possible, even though it's likely that Rihanna will take over eventually.

It's always been number 1 in my heart. It's my favorite ballad of hers. That haunting intro, her soft tone that builds to a vocal crescendo bursting with emotion. Those lyrics. I love Trey's excitement when discussing the song. She needs to sing it more often. A stripped down Vegas TGIFU version. I remember this song pouring from the radio during that time. It got tons of radio play.

I actually like the fact that Mariah's voice isn't always the same. Some performances are not good. Okay. But I like the fact that not a single performance is the same, except for the lipped parts. She has so many colors and textures to her voice and yet her sound is immediately recognizable. Who else sings like that in the business? Effing nobody.

I adore Mariah and I'll always love her, but that doesn't mean I'll stick my head in the sand and pretend. There's a huge difference between when people feel truly fulfilled, passionate, joyful, inspired and motivated versus the alternative, maintaining. There's a spark that's unmistakable and speaks for itself.

Yes Dom and Ed. The way you guys just spoke of her is how it should be. My mother always taught me that you can say what you want to and about someone, it's all in your delivery. I love Mariah, I know the bar has been set high by her own doing, and maybe by us too, but I do understand that she's human too. She's not perfect but I'm glad she's still here. Hopefully the passion returns. Hopefully many things can turn around for her, but most of all I wish her well always and if I had the chance to see her and talk to her I'd tell her how much I love her and how much she's helped me in my life. She's incredibly imperfect and I love her for it. Lambily forever.
