Re: Just an older fan (76,255) (76,266) by Edouard from France
Totally agree with you. The board tends to be depressing because those who write the most are the same who keep judging Mariah as well as each other every 5 seconds. It is boring. It is tiring.
Your post is a breath of fresh air. Thank you.

Favourite none singles: All in Your Mind and Prisoner. Favourite singles: Vision of Love and There's Got to Be a Way. Wow. 27 years. Billboards top songs in 1990:
1. Wilson Phillips - Hold On
2. Roxette - It Must have Been Love
3. Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
4. Bell Biv DeVoe - Poison
5. Madonna - Vogue
6. Mariah Carey - Vision of Love
7. Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise
8. En Vogue - Hold On
9. Billy Idol - Cradle of Love
10. Jon Bon Jovi - Blaze of Glory
I would argue that 1-6 are all iconic song, you still regularly hear them on the radio 27 years later. That's an amazing achievement.

Prenups, nda's and such (76,263) by RibbonB from USA
Mimi better take heed and proceed with extreme caution and gain control of her wits, checks and assets. Mary J. Blige has to pay her soon to be ex 30k per month in temporary support and that is with a prenup. Ladies, don't be dumb and deluded by the newness of "love", lust or what not. You can't buy love and even "loyalty" is nebulous at best. Mimi's debacle with the billionaire should be red flag enough, but.

Vision of Love and Vanishing. Great album.

It is just sad that she is being so Trump like of late. A lot of "fake news" with no substance or authenticity coming from her and her crew.

Love Takes Time and Vanishing. I personally think that Vanishing would have been a great debut single.

That's what I meant. Not Rainbow, you're right. Love the CTTA pic, looks like Mariah in paradise.

27 years today debut album (76,257) by Haiji Toro from USA
What's your two favorite songs (single and non-single) off this album? Mine are Love Takes Time and Prisoner. Although, I do wish she'd perform Alone In Love at her concerts.

Lmao I bet that I screamed louder than you did with that rim job comment (why did I feel so dirty typing that, I think I'm also Mary Poppins).

Must of struck a cord but will stand by what I said. It comes off as some people on this board get excitement for putting her down. Besides certain social media post she's virtually been away from the spot light yet find things to hate on her daily. The women is running errands and we call her fat and tacky. We are literally sitting here judging her outfit like she's at the Oscar. I am not employed by Stella, just someone that realizes that this is a person. End of the day.

Happy Radio (76,254) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
For about two weeks now Mariah has been getting radio play from a old school hip station where I live. The most spun tracks are Someday and Emotions.

It's a poster of the Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme) cover.

Well said. I totally agree. This whole "you all are old farts" is basically rephrasing Stella's iconic "Tommy is a relic" quote.

Re: Mariah Carey helps Lena Dunham take down trolls (76,250) (76,251) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Mariah has some classic lines (although "Why are you so obsessed with me" is not her original) that I use on a day to day basis. And my friends who are not lambs also love some of these lines and they use it too. Haha it's fun.

Mariah Carey helps Lena Dunham take down trolls (76,250) by B from USA
Lena, who is supposedly the voice of her generation, said she invokes Mariah when confronted by angry men. Maybe I will as well.

Gay icon (76,249) by G.G. from USA
Some people on this board just like to stir the pot and argue about every single thing. Mariah is a gay icon, maybe not for one certain wolf in lambs clothing, but she is. It's so sad that people are so hateful, and miserable in the life they've built for themselves that they go to message boards to argue and put people down every single day. Mariah may not be at the Judy Garland level of gay icon, but she is a gay icon in her own right.

Doesn't Damion have the TGIFY single cover hanging on his wall? I bought a double feature of Clueless and Mean Girls but haven't watched either in a while.

Re: Gay icon status (76,243) (76,246) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I always have to think about the Mean Girls movie. Where the gay friend of "Lindsey" has the Mariah Rainbow poster with the unicorn in his room and also a t-shirt. Mariah is definitely a singer people can relate to who are a bit on the "outside" or knew the feelings she described in many of her songs. Because of her background and many other things. Of course she's no Cher but Mariah did speak out for a lot of groups. By the way thanks B. for the list of donations. Very interesting. I love Mariah's quote of the Rainbow album: "In a perfect world, human beings would co-exist, harmoniously like a rainbow. A multitude of colors... but in unison." In 99 it was a wonderful thought.

"Champagne scented toilet paper" haha. I'm screaming with laughter. You just made my morning brighter. Don't put ideas in old Mariah's head. Best rim job ever though, I feel.

Gay icon status (76,243) by Andrew from UK
I donated to Elton John's AIDS foundation. Am I a gay icon? It seems basically some of the more needy and emotional homos in here desperately need Mariah to be thought of as a gay icon, whereas, I would suggest that even most gay people would roll their eyes and say "I can't stand her" alongside the rest of society that does that now. Would suggest that is an axiom that Mariah is not a gay icon in that she isn't revered in the gay community. Some gays like her. But some gays like J.Lo. Is she a gay icon, too? Some gays like Michael Jackson. Is he a gay icon? Basically, if gay people like your music/have heard your music/know who you are, you're a so-called "gay icon"? Utter tripe. And Outside is no more a gay anthem than I am a gay icon, myself. It is a song about being mixed race that some have re-interpreted to fit their own situation, a song that back ended an album 20 years ago, that nobody, unless a Mariah Carey fan, has heard, or, indeed, cares about, either. Utter, utter tripe.

Mariah's formula (76,242) by B from USA
This excerpt from from All Music's review of Rainbow is what Mariah needs to hear at fhe moment since shes working on an album scheduled for release this year: "It's appropriate for any introspective album, it's a bit ballad-heavy, which makes Rainbow seem a little samey. Yet that's not the only reason the record has a weird sense of déjà vu, since this follows the same formula as its two predecessors, distinguished primarily by her newfound fondness for flashing flesh. That repetition isn't necessarily a problem, since she does formula very well, managing to appeal to both housewives as well as b-boys. Rainbow proves that she can still pull off that difficult balancing act, but it's hard not to be a little disappointed that she'd didn't shake the music up a little bit more - after all, it would have been a more effective album if the heartbreak, sorrow, and joy that bubbles underneath the music were brought to the surface. She needs to hire a stylist and she needs to shake her music up at bit more. She needs to work with Frank Ocean and his producers, Miguel and Happy Perez, and Bruno Mars and The Smeezingtons. She also has to do damage control she needs a vocal coach, a throat vocal specialist and she also needs to quiet drinking and smoking. She so needs to rest her voice and the twins are old enough to read. No matter what I'll allows support her. I know what she's capable of."
