Celine (73,721)

The Colosseum, the theater were Mariah has her residency was "built specially to house Celine Dion's 'A New Day'". I don't understand all this Celine hate. I like her music and how gracious she is. She has never spoken bad of anyone. She has a beautiful aura. Mariah has always been my favorite singer though.

Yes girl. Agreed. "Till The End of Time" is both haunting, building, measured, thoughtful, moving, powerful, returning once again to haunting. I approve this message ms. Thang.

I'll forever be bitter that they didn't release The One as a single. I believe it could have been a huge hit. It just might have done better than Boy.

Wasted songs , should have been singles (73,717)

The album with the most wasted potential was E=MC2, Side Effects comes to mind as a big wasted moment. That song has stuck with me since I first heard it (having come out of an abusive relationship at the time ). I think so many people can relate to it (not living in a mansion with chandeliers lol) the whole concept of being damaged but moving on in your life ahhh it could have been a great moment for non fans to get to know that side of Mariah. What songs do you think were wasted?

Agreed. "Till The End of Time" is both haunting, building, measured, thoughtful, moving, powerful, returning once again to haunting, if not, and emphatically, defeated. The joy in the defeat I think is what many teenagers who were perhaps not understood or not good at being expressive needed to be expressed for them: "I can't love you, but I love the unrequited, because it's love in itself and that's moving, if not haunting."

I can't believe "I Don't" is your 2nd most played Mariah song. I've listened to it twice and have never listened since because I hated it so much

"Céline sung about a sinking ship", dead at that comment, I can't deal with you reducing one of the most well known songs worldwide down to this haha. But in all seriousness though, Mariah and Celine are both great singers, let's not pit them against each other, we'll reserve the pitchforks and torches for those who try to shade Mariah and Celine has been nothing but sweet to Mariah, even sending her flowers to welcome her to Vegas. And I'm not blaming you for pitting them against each other, I'm just seeing a lot of arguments regarding this for the last few days. We love Celine (even though I don't know any of her songs apart from the sinking ship song), she's a sweetheart and I have only recently come across some of her recent interviews and she has a good sense of humor. I think she'd get along with Mariah nicely since they both have a good sense of humor among other common things.

Nice to see this song get some love from time to time on this board. Out of all the remaining tracks on the debut album that weren't released, this had the biggest potential to be a hit, and that has sadly gone unfulfilled. One of the more sophisticated songs in the album.

I can only agree. Céline is a very talented vocalist but her songs do not evoke any emotion with me. Mariah wrote "The roof", "Petals", "The art of letting go". Céline sung about a sinking ship, just saying. No tea to spill though.

Hard to believe that this album is turning 20 years old. If I listen to this album right now it still sounds fresh and could fit on radio currently just goes to show us that our girl is truly one of kind. On another note I would not mind Mariah and The Trackmasters working together along with Dave Jam Hall.

I do agree with you Licia. I would take Mariah over Celine, but to lessen her accomplishments that's something I wouldn't do. Out of al the three though, Mariah has the best catalogue. Music we connected too because it was raw and came from an honest place. Mariah experimented, but eventually stagnated into one sound, a sound and formula that has turned boring over time. She won't do EDM, but there's a lot more she could experiment with.

Oh I would love if she works again with them. 20 years since Butterfly was released. Unbelievable. I think it still sounds so fresh and new. Could be released just nowadays. I love the lyrics so much on that album. Rnb at its best, and the ballads were also beautiful.

You're right it's all about preference. My point was that some of you are acting as if Celine brought nothing to the music industry and that her achievements and contributions are less. My point is she's just as great as Mariah is even though I prefer Mariah hands down.

Celine vs Mariah (73,699)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)

This Mariah vs. Celine should be null and void because both women are great in their own right. Both are apart of an era that can never be recaptured. But when I put both of their catalogs up against one another I would have to give the edge to Mariah and by a wide margin simply because Mariah's catalog has a variety of moods, emotions, and colors, whereas Celine's catalog is very bage and bland. Also while Celine is an amazing vocalist her voice does not move much as Mariah's voice does. I say all that to say Celine is cool in my book but there is only one Mariah.
