It's divas week (108,403) by Randy from USA
Uh-oh, break out the hairspray, sequins, booze. It's divas week. Birthdays: 3/23 Chaka. 3/25 Aretha. 3/26 Diana. 3/27 Mariah. 3/31 Celine. But today we start with our original Dorothy from The Wiz - Stephanie Mills. Now you all say I'm mean, so this week Ima be kind. Did y'all know that she has another talent besides singing?

Just makin' the most of life (108,402) by Bobby A from United States
Jamie, your post is spot on. Where will MC be in 2026? I believe the nostaglia is going to fade soon without some type of new project. She is going to need to release some type of project next year. Maybe not a new album, but some type of compliation project with something from her vault. MC is a legend who can break the internet with the right complilation and goodies included. I am thinking about something like what Garth Brooks did with Wal-Mart to sell his first ever anthology boxset. I am still in awe of everything she has accomplished in her career. Give me one of her remixes on a new vinyl pressing and I am a very happy queen.

Jamie, you're 100% spot on. Mariah resents most of the things from her early days. To quote Tommy Mottola about Hero: "The bottom line is that nobody was putting words in her mouth. The song came from her own soul. It just wasn't the direction she wanted to be going in. Her next album, Music Box, was a great mix of styles. But for her, Hero was not even a small piece of that pie. I saw Hero as Mariah's missing piece. This was the magical piece that was going to open up every demographic to her. Mariah wasn't happy about it. But Hero was on her next album. This had to be another example for her of seeing me as being controlling. I really don't think she got it until Hero became a hit in every country of the world. She was just a kid when she wrote that song, but she probably didn't get it until she turned into an adult." I wish she could overcome all those traumas and live on as a free spirit.

It only happens to singers (108,400) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
People expect singers to still perform like in their peak era. But at the same time we have different expectations when it comes to other fields like sports, do we expect Michael Jordan to still hit the game in his 50's? Do we expect Mike Tyson to box like in his peak? He even lost the game recently. We appreciate them for what they had contributed. Mariah had played the game and she won. Now she is a legend. We appreciate her legacy. Of course we all know that she can't sing like her peak era. So what? She's a human being. Some singers have it until they died, some just don't. Nevertheless we still value her as one of the pioneers in singing and for her legacy. Just like we appreciate the legacy of Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, or other legends in other fields.

The reason she is still relevant and receiving icon awards is because of her early career, those days influenced everything and everyone. If none of that had happened and she came out as she is now I'm afraid she wouldn't be getting and awards. We're nostalgic because she was amazing then, we lived through it and we miss it. None of us are saying she isn't relevant anymore as a person, but music career wise unfortunately no is buying her new stuff. Even her Christmas mania is based on an early period of her career, and let me guess when that was, oh yes its the time we're all nostalgic about. Mariah is a legend and she's reached icon status but it's not for her current music career, unfortunately it's her past.

I'm quite confused with this board right now. Forget about the 90s, I miss Caution Mariah. So I get the lambs on this board who don't like what they see now. But I wish they could see that the other lambs who defend current Mariah are showing their love for her just as you all are showing your love for her by demanding excellence from her.

I don't think they are all "yass queens", they are just more accepting. And the ones expecting more are not "haters". She is not going to have a sit down and declare a "state of emergency" on her voice and cry about it on tv. You know her better than that. Let her go out on her own terms. Celebrate her little wins like the record she'll hopefully reclaim this Christmas with AIWFC that'll make every lamb proud. I think both sides of the lambily need to be easier on each other in this crazy world we live in today already suffocating with hate for people not like themselves.

Lol. We have one already - Eric. Who knew that MC's first televised appearance of 2025 could cause so many different perspectives about the state of her career. MC should have prepared us more about what she dealt with during the recording of Caution during her Genius interview. That was the perfect interview for her to come clean about everything that we definitely know now. Caution wasn't rushed. MC just couldn't do vocally with Caution what she was used to doing in the studio. Ten songs was all she could do in the studio because vocally she just couldn't do more. That is just my perspective this week after coming to the conclusion why there is no new album seven years later.

Maybe you should start your own message board where you and the other yass queens can reside in Delulu Land together. We keep it real over here, maybe too real for you.

What I will not do is stop expecting the best from MC because she is the best. If you can't take the heat, go find another kitchen sweetie.

"Doing stuff on the charts." What do you mean with stuff? The Christmas season with AIWFCIY or the remix with Ariana? Did I miss something, is there a new song on the radio or charts or on streaming? The Rainbow remixes were cool and the song with the female rnb singer Muni Long. But what charts?

Boy, you have sum up MC's career in one post. It is not that we are stuck in the past, but we merely miss the old MC who gave a damn about giving 100%. MC spoiled us in the beginning with her perfectionist attitude about her career, songs, and performances. I miss that MC. I miss the studio pics. I miss MC working with the current hottest R&B producer. Mike Will Made It, Dev Hynes, and Danja were all in awe what she brought to table during the songwriting sessions. I miss the excitement waiting for MC to reveal new music was dropping on a certain date. I want the MC back who wrote her most playful lyrics of her career in 2005 with ILT.

Wow, I really could not believe what I was reading in these messages on this message board. [censored] Mariah fans picking Mariah apart with a fine tooth comb, trying to compare her to what she was in the 90's, trying to make Mariah the image you want her to be or think what she should be. [censored] I find it really sad that you feel that Mariah has to be perfect [censored] or that her speech wasn't as good as you wanted it to be. Mariah has accomplished more in her life than 99.9% of people on this planet, she doesn't need to satisfy all your [censored] issues as well.

I remember coming to this message board all the time and remember how good and fun it was to chat with the fans and checking out the discography (I see that's gone), Eric (if you still run this site) what happened?

[censored] And before you [censored] fans come at me with "I'm just being honest and saying what I think", yeah well sometimes you're unwanted opinion just makes you look like a [censored]. And also no, don't try give me that "I've been a fan since" rubbish either, before you consider yourself a fan, google what the word fanatic means. [censored]

Pfff, you guys are so nostalgic and stuck in the past. What's with this boomer mentality? It's 2025, and you're still rambling about American Idol, Nicki this, Nicki that, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Jewel something like be for real. Yeah, maybe the average 40+ person would mention them but today's main pop girls are Charli, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor, Billie, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. And guess what? Mariah is still more relevant than ever.

Even Miley Cyrus just gave Mariah her flowers, while Celine Dion (love her though) showed up and got no recognition from Taylor on stage. That's the industry it picks and chooses who it respects. But Mariah? She doesn't need that validation anymore. Billboard literally just named her the #1 pre-2000s female artist of the 21st century, and #12 overall. These aren't just opinions or some delusional fan made resume these are some serious facts.

And this whole "Mariah needs to be serious" mentality. You just want Hero Mariah just like Tommy did. But she was never just that girl. She loves the hood, she's camp, she's extra, and she's always been the dramatic woman we saw in Mariah's World. It's wild how so many of you refuse to see the bigger picture Mariah isn't just a pop star, she's an institution in pop culture.

She can't reverse her age, physical condition, or mental state, nobody can. Even Beyoncé the queen of perfection isn't selling like she used to and still gets called overrated. Madonna? People call her a grandma on stage. Taylor? Gets dragged for her dancing. The whole "perfect pop star" image is a 90s corporate fantasy. Pop culture, audiences, and marketing have evolved y'all just refuse to evolve with it.

And let's talk relevance. Mariah can show up at an award show, turn her head to the left, and it's an instant viral meme. Since the NYE disaster, she's been more relevant than ever. Yeah, people associate her with Christmas, but they also respect the hustle. She's so "irrelevant" that she keeps collecting Icon Awards left and right.

And about Mariah being a "ditzy diva who lost track of reality"? I love Wendy Williams, but we all saw how that ended. For someone who supposedly doesn't have it together, Mariah is still living life on her own terms, blowing her money as she pleases, and not under a conservatorship. That alone is a win in my book.

And honestly, people need to realize that she's just a 50 year old, half a billion dollar worth rich woman living her best life on yachts cruising the coast of Capri in the winter. She is completely unbothered. She doesn't care about you, me, or whatever is happening online. Her career doesn't define her anymore, it hasn't for a long time. She collects her checks, enjoys her sparkling drinks, and keeps it moving. So why are you stressing yourself out over it?

Do I cringe sometimes at the diva act? Sure. Do I wish she had more energy? Maybe. But am I gonna sit here writing an essay about how she supposedly became an "unserious" artist? No. If you're so obsessed with nostalgic Mariah, go watch old performances on YouTube. But free yourself from this toxic outdated way of thinking. She's still here, still winning, and still making history whether you like it or not.

Article: Mariah and Anderson Paak are breaking hearts together (108,384) by Bobby A from United States
This article made me smile. It must be a good feeling for MC to finally experience chivarly from a man who clearly understands courtship. I am happy Anderson is in her life. She needs someone who understands her and the whole music industry. Anderson clearly gets MC. I just wonder has MC told him everything that has happened since the Caution era. I am playing Leave the Door Open now. Lol. His vocals are so good.

Perfectly written Jamie. What I still don't understand, how can a young Mariah be grown-up, grounded and communicative while the grown-up and older MC seems the opposite in a lot of ways. That's a bit strange. The same with the lyrics. I prefer her lyrics when she was a tween. That's funny. Yeah the aliens must be the real reason.

Bravo. Some like to think Mariah is incapable of making a mistake. They refuse to take off the rose colored glasses. Then say to those of us who stopped wearing those glasses a long time ago, you aren't a real fan, blah, blah, blah. When all we want as fans is to see Mariah revered for the once in a generation talent that she is.

Accountability, kryptonite to Yass Queens (108,380) by Jamie from UK
This is perfectly put. I still haven't got over how she dressed in the [Heartbreaker] remix video. Those types of choices are what have cheapened her over the years and lost her wider fanbase. [You're] allowed to do music you like but when you deviate too far from your core fanbase or appeal then [you're] in trouble. Even Madonna the queen of reinvention faced backlash especially during the Erotica era and Madonna portrayed an edgy and sexy approach from the start. Mariah was portrayed as a contemporary pop artist, and she completely removed herself from that base and she lost a huge fanbase. I like RnB Mariah, I like she dipped her toe in that side of things, she appeared cool and edgy whilst remaining composed and still catering to her core fanbase. Then I feel she embraced or took it too far for the general public to relate too. She was no longer the person they thought she was, and only real loyal fans like us have stuck with her, but even we question her choices. It's like she was captured by aliens at the end of the 90's and returned to earth as a completely different person. Hey we all change to a degree but I feel even as a life long fan, I have difficulty recognising how we got from Mariah to MC I watch early videos etc and from 1999 onwards and I still can't get my head around how completely different she is personality wise. Come back Mariah, it's time.

I definitely approve of Anderson from an aesthetics standpoint. He's very good looking, and he seems like he has a kind and upbeat persona. Also quite talented from a musical standpoint. Overall, he's probably one of Mariah's better choices in terms of men.
