Discounting? Because I don't think that their issues stem from being biracial or racism experienced? I don't see that as discounting. A lot of the racist occurrences did happen before Mariah's birth or before she was even three, so she would be hard pressed to remember, especially in any great detail. For instance, the story about them being shot at through their window happened the year she was born, the animal poisonings and having the car blown up: "Mariah herself, star of the films Precious and The Butler, was shielded from these hardships, as she was not born until March 1970. That year the family moved yet again, this time to a more affluent New York neighbourhood, but the problems simply intensified. They were subjected to racist attacks - amongst them, their dogs were poisoned and their car was blown up. That was the beginning of a nightmare," says Patricia. "When we were eating one night, someone fired a shot through the window. Luckily, none of the children were in the room." Many of these occurrences I think she was told about when she was older, not things she remembered offhand. I don't think that's discounting. My post had nothing to do with Mariah and her siblings relationships in regards to one another. Are they jealous? Could be. I don't have an opinion one way or the other in that because I do think that they're all too grown for any foolishness and as I said in my last post I don't give them a pass as they they are all old enough and have or had money to get help for their issues. My post detailed my belief that they all have issues that stem from their childhood, however, I don't think they stem from being biracial or the racism they encountered, but because their upbringing was unstable, the father was absent, and the parenting was overall lacking.

No new Mariah (68,137)
by Danny from Uk

I really don't think the Mariah we see or hear about now is any different to 1999s Heartbreaker Remix Mariah. She's just more "emancipated" she's lived a life of amazing opportunities and glamour but also of sadness and loss. She's human. I know the media and even some lambs like to see the Mariah of the early 90s but I don't ever think that was really who she was. She's been controlled by men her whole life and Stella might just be the friend who "gets it" and at the very least accepts Mariah for who she is and rather than change her helps her to live a fulfilling life . The latest oufits might be a little OTT but nothing unusual for her and when the occasion requires it she reigns it in and makes it a moment in her words. I think she's exactly who she always was and who she wants to be. I'm standing by that as a fan.

Mariah's children seem like well behaved children. Mariah and Nick may have a lot of issues but their obviously doing something right when it comes to coparenting the children.

Honey's just the best Mariah uptempo. Love everything about it. It's still so cool and relevant, from the song, to the video. I can't describe.

Allison should deal with her life and issues. Morgan should deal with his life and his issues, but both try to paint themselves as tragic heroes while dragging their little sister down when they are not getting her money. We are all products of our childhoods and upbringing and everyone quoting Mariah, yet discounting her accounts is being a little contradictory. We all know less about Mariah's childhood than she does, that is a fact. Allison and Morgan are like crabs in a barrel, who can't believe the littlest one that could is still going despite their best efforts to bring her back down and eat her alive. That is how they come off to me. I don't agree with everything M. has done with her career, but she knows from whence she came and she keeps moving and plugging ahead despite their petty, and even cruel jabs. They were the older siblings, but look how f'd up their lives are, still mad that their little sister survived and shot into the stratosphere.

Aww, I do miss her interviews from 2008-13. I just re-watched her 2011 interview with Rosie. She was so happy, relaxed, lucid, fun and sweet in this one. Dem Babies were just little nuggets. I love how Mariah recounts her childhood and how funny Rosie actually met her when she was a young child. I wil be happy when Mariah gets back to less stiff and or staged interviews. I love she is more relaxed and telling her life stories and having fun in interviews. Please, I hope she does something with Oprah very soon. Masterclass with Oprah would be epic, when she gets off of this extravagant, exhibitionist era perhaps.

The kids are not alright (68,131)
by Lila from United States

I haven't been on this board to know if The Truth is a troll or not and I don't know what all the talk about Morgan is but I certainly agree with him on that, most of the horrible things that happened to Mariah's family, that Mariah has recounted, come from stories that she was told, not events she witnessed firsthand and would have been affected by. Mariah was three by the time her parents split up, her mother constantly moved her around, and yes Mariah was light enough to pass for white. I think the only thing that was first hand was her saying that Alison would get beaten up because she was the darkest. I, personally, am not giving Patricia or anyone else credit or explaining away things that can't be explained away and shouldn't be explained away, or given a pass, simply because Mariah can sing. The problems that Mariah and her siblings have, do not seem to stem from being biracial or any hardships associated with it and they're not the first people to go through hardship (nor the worst). Mariah is deep in many ways, her music proves that, but she's also childish in many ways. She constantly displays behavior that says that she's suffering from lack of a father figure. She's sexy but it's a sexy that is seeking male attention because she needs the validation. Not to mention, the fact that she's said in the past, that she's had older boyfriends from the age of thirteen onward. After Mariah's father died, she had this to say: "When you grow up with one parent, you get one side of the story. I'm not saying there was a deliberate thing that happened, but that's just the way it is." Mariah will allude to things but never elaborate on them but think it can be assumed that she found out that things were not all that she believed they were when it came to the reasons why her father wasn't around and they most likely centered on her mom. I've always thought that Mariah's saying that Patricia would have her around her friends and call a little adult was off putting. Patricia worked three job sometimes but from what I've read she also refused to get a so-called "regular" job that had a chance at actually paying well. I'm all for dreams and goals but when you have three kids something's got to give. Mariah was left home alone a lot - Patricia's jobs would require her to be there at odd hours, particularly in the evening and most of the time she couldn't take Mariah with her - and Morgan would dip out. I find it doubtful she didn't know that Morgan would leave as most kids tell you everything. Yes, baby-sitters are expensive but the bite the bullet or make your son act right but don't continually leave your child with someone unreliable. It's weird that she didn't take Mariah's education seriously. IMO Patricia didn't just have a do your best attitude, she just didn't care. From what I've read, the only indication came when Mariah got to the end of high school and I think that's because she just wanted Mariah to be able to say that she graduated, versus actually having learned something. Mariah is now repeating her mother's actions but with a bigger budget. Divorced when her kids were three, constantly moving around out of country, scheduling events on holidays and birthdays knowing (even if only unconsciously) that their dad won't be able to make it, does not take their education seriously. I don't think she wants them to be completely ignorant, don't get me wrong, but whenever Nick would talk about them doing something that would take more intellectual power and someone to have payed attention in math class, Mariah would immediately counter with them doing something in music. I think Alison is ... I can't even think of a word, however I think there's anger and resentment, from her, towards Patricia and I don't think Alison is lying about everything that has happened to her in her childhood. Something happened, something went wrong. Mariah's past has been told through a very rose-colored Rages to Riches filter. If that filter were taken away and an in-depth look was taken, I think it'd be a whole other story. Personally, I hold Mariah accountable because she has the time, money, and opportunity to go to therapy and get help for any issues that she has, her siblings the same. However, I don't think it's unfair to acknowledge where these issues stem from and IMO, that's their mother and, while most likely a lesser extent, their father.

The public is very fickle and has an incredibly short attention span when it comes to celebrities. Mariah is no different. I believe she is one good performance away from being loved again by the general public. I have hope that she will indeed knock her performance at Divas Live out of the park. She almost has to if her "godmother" Pati is with her. Mariah truly respects her and I feel like Pati is the kind of person to smack Mariah up side the head and get her back to where she needs to be. I like many have questioned her choices as of late but I will not give up hope for someone I have been a fan of for most of my life. She has been there for me when I was at my darkest and I intend to be here for her. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors and we may never but that's not our business. Much love to everyone on this board. I feel like without everyone's opinion this board would be nothing. I appreciate everyone's post from the good the bad and the down right negative.

You are recounting rumors and myth about her childhood that you read on the internet or from gossip from other randoms. She is more the expert on her own childhood even if she did hear some of it from her mother or siblings and I am sure she experienced a lot of it herself.

Mariah when she brings her A game easily hangs with the divas and shines. Let's hope she remembers that moments like these are an opportunity to revive the legacy and reinvent herself. Send Stella back to Russia, lock the liquor cabinet, and seriously prepare for VH1.

Mariah Carey "C&D" (68,121)
by T from USA

I would love Mariah to eventually do a duets album, but also a covers album (because she has so many amazing covers). What better way to double sales then to do both in one amazing package, call it "Mariah C/D". 1. I Want To Know What Love Is (feat. Justin Bieber) 2. You And I (feat. Stevie Wonder) 3. With You I'm Born Again (feat. John Legend) 4. One More Try (feat. George Michael) 5. I Still Believe (feat. Beyonce) 6. Open Arms (feat. Celine Dion) 7. Bringing On The Heartbreak (feat. Mary J Blige) 9. Against All Odds (feat. Phil Collins) 10. Without You (feat. Kelly Clarkson) 11. Didn't Mean To Turn You On (feat. Bruno Mars) 12. I'll Be There (feat. Trey Lorenz) 13. The Beautiful Ones (feat. Dru Hill) 14. Endless Love (feat. Luther Vandros) 15. When You Believe (feat. Whitney Houston) 16. Heavenly No Ways Tired (feat. Aretha Franklin) I included "When You Believe" even though it's not a cover song but the duet is just too big not to have on there.

100% agree. She's not perfect like the rest of the parents in the world but you can't categorize her as a bad mother. Alison chooses that path and I do believe they all did try to guide her but probably it gets tiring as the years go by because in the end, no one can really help her but herself. Same goes with Mariah, but she is the closest with Patricia among the siblings, they had that special mother-daughter bond and you can't deny that in all of the clips and photos that they were together so she can really help her. Can't help but miss that 2010-2013 era where all of the happenings in "Mariah's world" were okay, stable, and genuine.

Make it happen. Because this song is so extremely pow for me, if you really want something you can make it happen, one of the biggest anthems in my opinion better than Hero. Nota beta: it would have been the perfect area regarding medias, rumors and gossiper to play "The art of letting go".

So can we now expect a full live performance by Mariah because Patti will be there? If I'm not mistaken, whenever Mariah is with these legends, she's not lip syncing and really brings out her A game. It's a shame if Ms. Patti will sing her heart out on December 5 and Mariah will just lip sync her high notes, like girl that woman is 72 and yet there you are a 46 year old who's frequently using pre-recorded vocals.

That's a very sweet, heart felt post however I read that all that stuff about racist events Mariah couldn't possibly have any recollection of as she was an infant or not born yet and was simply recounting stories she'd heard. She used that for PR but in fact had pretended to be white throughout her childhood.

Thanks for posting the video. I had not watched yet. I agree the video is very simple yet tasteful. I'm not going to say anything about what I wish Mariah would do or change because at the end if the day she's going to do what she wants. Clearly she's ok with how she presents herself to the world. All I can do is hope she leaves this outfit at home for her Christmas take over.

Simple yet classy. I'm almost overwhelmed by all the gold tones everywhere. Mariah, this is what maturity and acting your age looks like, in case you forgot. Enough of the fake-sexy shtick. It worked for you before. It still works for other lesser singers close to your current age. But somehow it's just awkward coming from you now. Must be too forced.

Mariah better have her stuff together for this. So far they are picking great legends. I hope the newer divas that are chosen are not lame. Truthfully the children now and days don't have a lot of great divas like we grew up with. There are a few good ones, but there aren't that many great ones.
