Re: Favorite interlude/prelude (66,556) (66,559) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
"Angels Cry" is just so ethereally beautiful. I make people (non fans) listen to it whenever I want to blow their minds away when I bring Mariah up (which I do quite often).

Re: Fusion of song (66,552) (66,558) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Don't worry about it, I made a worse blunder asking B why he thinks there will be 12th anniversary re-release of "Butterfly" knowing full well that it has been 2 decades and that album is my top 3 Mariah albums. I was embarrassed for days after that haha.

Elle article about Mariah's Mac collection (66,557) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Ugh so I got too excited seeing Elle have an article about Mariah's collection thinking it's an official announcement but it was the same damn picture, so still speculations only, but what pissed me off is thanks to Mishka they choose some of Mariah's worst pictures to be featured in the article. Here's the link. The last picture is the worst, where her wig starts half way in the middle of her head. Gosh someone needs to clean out her damn instagram.

Favorite interlude/prelude (66,556) by Ardis Logic from Earth
Hands down my favorite is the "Daydream Interlude". I don't think it's under 2 minutes though. Then there is my ultimate favorite, the prelude to "Angels Cry". It's 60 seconds of pure heaven. It gives me an ear-gasm every time.

Through The Rain (66,555) by Andrew from UK
Here's to "Through The Rain" as I move down memory lane (as I think are others in here). O long song. O wrong song. How you were hated. How everybody hated thee. Singing it to myself (and it really is one of those you sing to yourself quietly) I am moved. It doesn't even feel like a "Mariah Carey" song, even now. It doesn't fit in with anything else. I think it will stand the test of time as a rare gem. Charmbracelet was obviously a safe move to the middle of the road, and, although I was supremely disappointed by it (who the [censored] allowed Mariah to name her albums? the title screams "Don't buy my music, I'm nuts"), it was necessary for Mariah to get back on track. I remember online that people were begging for Mariah to pick a different first single. But there were none on the album that could have impacted, so MOR it really was. I have fond memories of that period in my life and in that vein, "My Saving Grace" has just moved me, too. I wonder: do we remember songs as we once thought of them or in the spirit in which we felt about them at the time, or do we re-invent the past and our own sentiments based upon how we feel about the music now? I suppose I feel fondly about that period in Mariah's music now because it wasn't extraordinary, it was very ordinary - somewhat of a conversation with the fans, if you will - the ego re-landing, perhaps. Of course, what happened next sent Mariah global again, and once more she became a little too full of herself and started believing her own bullshit. But for those few moments during the Crapbracelet years, Mariah accepted she was human and showed incredible humility and vulnerability. It was genuine and real and not part of the narrative she has wrapped around truth and reality. All in all, the above was probably just a fancy, erudite way of saying: "[censored], I feel old." Mariah during Charmbracelet promotion was the age that I am now. Incredible.

Re: This Mariah (66,547) (66,554) by Andrew from UK
Graham Norton is a tosser. Yes she was frozen and preened a lot in between takes. She became extremely weird after 2001 and that's when the high-octane vanity really kicked in. She was also really guarded in her responses. Again, she never really voices an opinion anymore and every line seems to be a detraction or a lie to protect what she considers her brand (learned nothing from the Mottola machine, much?). But on the whole it was kinda cute to see the international superstar on the show doing silly things. I, for one, loved it. She looked at me and said "I love you, too" ten years after I first imagined speaking to her. Loved it. Even if she did lip-sync TTR. But Graham Norton walked over to one of the crew after she finished and the crew member said something like "Did you [censored] hear that?" and Graham Norton laughed really hard in disbelief saying "I know, that's [censored] crazy". [censored], I feel old.

Re: Fusion of song (66,548) (66,553) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Yes the structure, the music, the yearning, and the storyline are similar. All 3 has this storyline of the protagonist desperately wanting to have their lover next to them. "My All" is one of my Mariah songs ever and the other 2 work nicely as sequels. I enjoy all 3, they are similar without sounding repetitive.

I'm running on 2 hours of sleep lol, I do realize that I mistakenly named "Against All Odds (Take a Look at me Now)" by the wrong title, for those who have a pet peeve about song titles. I'm actually embarrassed, coming from a day 1 fan/lamb.

SSFT in Hawaii (66,551) by RibbonB from USA
Jussie Smollett just announced that he will be opening for Mariah on her one night only in Hawaii on November 25th. This should be interesting. I wonder why Hawaii for the holiday though? Here is hoping this song is something good.

Rainbow.

It's funny I didn't even think of that, but yes you're right, they do fit together. I was struggling to make "You're Mine" lyrics fit the "We Belong Together" instrumental lol. I couldn't even finish, it sounded terrible. I ended up mixing "Take a Look at Me Now" with "Right to Dream". Let me know what you think.

Thank you. I always thought of those three songs as a trilogy. And realizing how they tell a sad love story with each song segueing to the next, I believe she intended them to be that way. They're lovely to hear on their own, but just extraordinary to listen to especially in the same sequence that they were released.

You're so lucky to have been able to witness that firsthand. I wonder why he thought she was awful, though. Did she diva out between takes or something?

Same with "I Only Wanted" and "My All"/"After Tonight".

I'll go with "Twister". That's the one I have listened to the most out of the 3 mentioned and I think it's one of her most emotion songs and the whistle just drives in the emotion. Her voice in the song is both soothing and full of emotions, the type of Mariah vocals I love.

Re: Rainbow Mariah (66,536) (66,544) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I'm gonna agree to that and I think I found a little proof. While it seems like Mariah did something to her face, mainly because her eyes look more upturned and small instead of the usual almond shaped ones we are used to. Now we can all agree that this "change" started happening from 2015, so before that her face looked fine right? But here is an example from the Idol era, where her eye makeup is done the way she does it now and you can see her eyes look upturned and small like it does now. But right after that she served some of her best looks during that era and so I think it can be put down to bad makeup, the cat eye lashes and heavy eye makeup (whenever you compare her recent pictures where she has heavy make up with the ones with more natural makeup, you will see a drastic difference). However she sometimes does the natural makeup but then puts on those darn lashes and it makes her eyes look wonky like here. But when she doesn't use those lashes she looks straight out of 1999 like here, 2006-07 like here and 2010/2014 right here. So her face didn't change really. Its the makeup. The problem with those lashes is Kris puts the edges a little too much outside the outer corners of her eyes, so that combined with her having rounder cheeks (rounder does not mean fat, it makes her more youthful) close up her eyes and that's when it looks like she has cheek implants and botox and eye lifts.

Re: This Mariah (66,537) (66,543) by Andrew from UK
I was at that taping. The whole audience was amazed. Including Graham Norton who, when the cameras stopped, was laughing about how crazy her memory was. I spoke to him a few months later and he described her as "awful". Which he is when he's not on camera.

Wow never saw this. Mariah is so sweet. It's unbelievable that she recognized some fans with names and even the country. And at that time no Bulochnikovs, what a great time it was. Just imagine Mariah is on your phone, what a lucky fan from China.

After Tonight can easily be sung with My All's instrumental and vice versa.

This Mariah (66,537) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I'd like to believe I still live in a world where Mariah still remembers her fans as fondly and accurately as she did here. I mean that photographic (literally) memory is impressive as it is touching. This was her 13 years into her career. I wonder how she's like now that that time has doubled.

Re: Rainbow Mariah (66,528) (66,536) by Edouard from France
It's interesting to see that Mariah, while she's being touched up towards the end, looks just like Mariah in Vegas today. It's only make up people. Mariah hasn't done anything to her face (nothing extreme). When you look at her instagram in Greece in the restaurant she looks just the same. Natural. No lashes.

Twister. Such a sad song. Love the unresolved ending. It was said this song is about her stylist Tonjua Twist who committed suicide in 2000.
