She finally did the original version of it. She's now belting like effortless in many of her performances. She's really getting there.

Re: Mariah Carey's collaborators share untold... (61,317) (61,320)

It was a very interesting read indeed. I was saddened towards the end when Mariah apparently said she yearns for the type of respect that Mary J gets. Fantasy ODB remix was groundbreaking but, as even Mariah has been saying in interviews lately, she wasn't the first one. Mary's 411 album (especially the remix album) is full of such collabs. What was special about Mariah doing it was her mainstream appeal and her pop singer status. I have no doubt Mary deeply inspired Mariah in the 90s (not so much Whitney). I've been discovering Mary's discography lately. That woman has collaborated with an incredible variety of artists (from Busta to Rod Stewart, Elton John to Andrea Bocelli, Nas to Sinead O'Connor, even Nick Cannon). She's like the go-to female singer for collabs. I don't find her voice particularly appealing but there is no denying she still gets more respect in the industry than Mariah. Be it her vocal style, or the whole "is she black, is she white" issue in the 90s, artists have always found it hard to understand Mariah's music. I'm sure jealousy and intimidation also played a big part. At least none of this stirred up a rivalry between Mariah and Mary. Both women are very gracious and I'm glad they became friends over the years.

I also enjoyed that article. It is true that no one could imagine what her addition of rap and hip hop would do to RnB and Pop (I recall in an interview she called it "hip pop" and laughed). She is the reason many have decided to be a singer and got inspired by her music and the changes she brought to RnB and Pop in general. It is also funny how, now at days, I truly long for less rap and hip hop in the current mainstream music haha. It's getting a bit overboard. But no one can deny it, Mariah's done it first.

I understand what you mean Mimi but I think it in another way. I don't attribute Mariah's confidence to Stella though but I do believe that Stella is perhaps pushing Mariah to give some more of her, Mariah used to be very static in front of the mic for a good while, I think also perhaps Stella is making Mariah feel more secure, maybe is just Packer making Mariah feel like she is the hottest chick in the world or could be that Mariah's confidence is back in place thanks to her voice also responding better and such things are reflected on stage. I don't think there's a "new Mariah" but I think there is a much more fresh version of herself, revamped outfits, revamped hair, her charisma and sultry personality are still there. But one thing that is very noticeable is that her tour (and previous shows) seem very well organized. I think must be that Stella is taking care of the things Mariah really shouldn't (and that she had to do on her own for a good while) so that Mariah can focus on what matters, the music, her voice, the dancing and the few perks in her show. Maybe it gave Mariah room to breath. The Emancipation happened a very long time and she was amazing but somehow every thing just stayed flat since then. It almost feels right now like a second Emancipation. I don't even believe she needs a "second comeback", she just needs a killer album. Her voice is there, her attitude is there, she is looking gorgeous, it seems her new team is there as well. Like it was said, Stella will be finally truly judge when a new album is released. Then I believe we will know if she is the manager Mariah needed for so long. "So far so good" like they say.

I agree with all this. Just seeing Mariah on stage moving the way she is doing it, finally walking from end to end, doing supersexylicious movements (a bit reminiscent of "The Adventures of Mimi" only that this time not impromptu), doing all the play around the chair like she used to when younger (Breakdown memories). I personally love that she is getting diva treatment on stage, being picked up, spun around, interacting more with the dancers, looking confident, etc. It just seems like a tone down beautiful burlesque show from the old 50s. Everything she is doing is classy-sexy and not raunchy. If the choreographer (or former haha) came up with such a complaint is perhaps because he was pushed for more and he probably was too much into a comfort zone. Mariah's dancers have been doing the same old washy steps, not many of the dances seemed to have change for a long time (I did like the one for YDKWTD). Now all looks more "risque", having the dancers giving more of their time and attention to Mariah as well. I also believe many in her old team were leeches who got too comfortable under her wings. If Stella was that bad and the current team was that bad Mariah wouldn't be doing so good. Mariah already had her Emancipation and she only had to keep it up and while she did, she also fell into a routine and I believe no body dared to ask more of herself, maybe they didn't think it was possible? Now Mariah is in shape, she is wearing leotards, she is singing great, I haven't read bad reviews at all, her shows are selling out and fans from other countries are begging her to add shows in their countries because the reviews from her tour are being so good no one wants to miss the opportunity of seeing Mariah at her best. She is recovering her reputation and image back, she is even having more followers on her Twitter and Instagram accounts, people are not being harsh at her anymore on social media, they are actually talking positive of her. The hard work is paying off, maybe some just didn't want to work hard anymore on Mariah's camp.

She's just a real focused person when she's in the studio - she makes sure it's perfect. Her vocals gotta be perfect. Some quirky stuff, I'm not gonna comment on, because I still make records for a living (laughs). Does anyone know what he's talking about?

Haha Andrew why are you doing this to me? Especially on a predominantly American board where British humour is essentially a foreign language. For the record (purposeful reference) all we spoke about was salad and our alcohol problems, nothing untoward. Anyway, back to Mariah. I have to say, I'm warming to Stella, it seems she's taken a bit of a backseat publicly. Still find the hashtags infuriating though.

Again, so many lessons to be learned. Martyn, your emails were lovely, to you, I'm sure, but I'm not sure we are on the same wavelength. It was just a friendly thing, nothing more. I don't know where you got all those interesting ideas from. Laws are laws, mate. I wish you well.

I don't make a habit of this and I dislike it when others do it but I really have to give you some praise for your posts - especially the more recent ones. I love reading all of the opinions on this board and, as you are probably aware, there are several posters here who love to spout their opinions non stop in overly long posts. It's always more of the same and other posters spend a lot of time blowing smoke up their [censored]. "I love your posts", "please don't stop posting" etc etc. Well, Andrew, it is finally your turn. You and I are of the same opinion about a lot of topics when it comes to Mariah. When I come across your posts I find them refreshing. Back in 2001/2002 I took a lot of heat on this board for my opinions on Mariah's vocals etc and was often labelled a hater. Now 15 years later, I'm still a fan, I have seen her live 4 times during 2 different tours and I am still of the same opinions I was back then. Please continue to post with Chardonnay in hand. Until you get banned, you will always have a fan in me.

Stella is clearing out dead wood it seems. Anybody that posts a tweet like that choreographer shouldn't be on anyone's payroll. And by the looks of it he won't be. Stella's a strong powerful woman. Where's the feminism? If she were a man doing what she's doing would he be called a "witch" and hounded on the web? Completely sexist.

Re: Stella is good at her job (61,285) (61,296)
by Musti from UK

I agree. I think Stella's contribution at this stage is not more than pushing Mariah out of her comfort zone. Ultimately it all comes down to Mariah but I do think she had a lot of yes-people around her by the end. I didn't like what the choreographer said about protecting her. If that means allowing Mariah to wear the same outfits, record the same type of songs and simply being in the same vicious loop that she's been since TEOM, that is no protection at all. Allowing someone to become too comfortable with themselves and their career choices isn't exactly caring, as we've all seen from the downward spiral of Mariah's career. I'm not too pro-Stella. Like many others have said, whether she is good or bad for Mariah will be seen when we have a new album/single. At the beginning it looked like she was putting Mariah under the management and advice of her entire family for her own gain but it seems that may not be the case (though none of us really know for sure). Stella knows by now that we will all hunt her down if she makes a bad move. Her career will surely be over. She has a lot to prove and I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt at this point. All seems to be working in Mariah's favour right now. Let's just see how the rest of it unfolds.

Quirky is a word I wouldn't usually use to describe any of Mariah's songs. Her material ranges from opulent to downright "hood". But the production in this one song from her is just weird. Maybe some of the background sounds are appropriate and even cute in a literal way as they do seem to "spring". Personally, they can be a little disorienting when I concentrate on them. Mariah seems to strain a bit at the chorus, but it's a nice bonus track and a unique addition to her brilliant catalog.
