I feel the Mariah we've been accustomed to since the Glitter breakdown is a shell of what she used to be. Her smiles seemed plastered on and her music is uninspired. I'll continue supporting her if she creates substantial music but will always yern for the musician she once was inside. Also I'm sure many would agree with your analysis on a "fierce versus sex kitten" displays of sexuality of women, but I have to say that both comes from vanity and egotism. I'm sure across the board they all go through great lengths to look their best in their scantily clad ensembles, and want to be seen as desirable at the end of the day no matter how much it's seen as empowering. Back to the original point it would be absurd and hypocritical for people to criticize and not respect Mariah for the way she dresses yet applaud Beyonce, Nicki, Rihanna, Madonna or whoever, but I digress. I've loved what I experienced, and what I've seen, and girl can sing like no other, but the Mariah of 1990 is gone. Gone is the desire to be the best singer of all time, and in place is a plastic look and voiced person who so totally buys into their own persona, a true fan can see it bluntly. I love Mariah (anyone who'd say I don't, I paid money to stand in a room with her). But the authenticity and passion has gone. Gone is the girl who wanted to do nothing but be known for her voice, and in her place is a robot. I congratulate Miss Carey on her success, but I damn her for her loss of spirit. Is Mariah owed it by the press and public? To deny Mariah is a source of ridicule because of how she uses, or has used, her sexuality would obviously be absurd and would be ignoring what has been happening for twenty years almost. "Fierce" sexuality is about being bold and empowering women to represent or express themselves without feeling the need to be qualified or rated by men. Mariah's sexuality has always been about vanity and ego, two qualities the public and the press hate, both of which she has been displaying for a while and at an increasingly alarming rate recently. Goodwill from the press and public started to dissipate when the lip-syncing started, the bad performances kept repeating, songs and albums bombed, lateness became offensive, etc. And shit British prostitute accents don't help. You can't have an ego and be arrogant with all that going on. People love to knock you off your high-horse or point out that, whilst you think you're on the high-ground, all they can see from the lowlands is your dirty knickers (see the Rockefeller ridicule). Given that recent concerts have gone a shockingly long way to mending her reputation (underestimated her massively) it's still embarrassing as a fan to see her behaviour off stage whether it's a video of cringe behaviour from an employee or photos with the over-enhanced breasts exposed to such a degree. To be quite frank, the sex kitten/erotic dancing stuff she does on stage is awkward and unnecessary. I think many fans would prefer Mariah to move on, put the tits away and not act like a sex kitten on ghb whenever a lens is directed her way. (Sunday 24 April 2016; 23:39)

She has said that that was the sound she wanted for the record. It has also been stated that C&C would bring her beats and she would take it from there adding melodies and writing her lyrics. The fact that what Tommy and JLo did got Mariah Sony/Columbia's biggest act released from her contract still owing the company an album speaks for itself. Every song sounds like another song. That being said, let's not forget how JLo's situation played out. Tommy Mottolla and Jennifer Lopez stole two of Mariah's song concepts with the sole intention of exacting revenge on Mariah/sabotaging her career (for Tommy) and to get a hit (for JLo). It was also done at a time Mariah was trying to get back on her feet (something which always be extremely emotional for her). They didn't do it years later or after Mariah released it, in which case Mariah could have sued them like Mariah was sued for "Make It Happen". They did it in the very same year and released it before Mariah could release it. It was done intentionally as confirmed by Irv Gotti and some other people. This was more than a song sample in justice feud (which is still serious since original writers should always be credited), it was a personal/professional sabotage feud. So yes JLo did deserve the subtle shade. It's not like Mariah was yelling "She is a lying, thief b***h)". She just said "I don't know her". But her dragging it for 15 years is what is starting to make her look petty. Anyways Bill I hope it doesn't sound like I am arguing with you, I was just giving my views. Out of touch (61,591) by Tijl from Belgium It is really great to read positive feedback on her SSFT from those who visited the concerts. And the videos available on the internet show her in good shape with a voice that is solid. However, I do have some concerns about the imagery distributed through her official channels. She seems to have a lot of fun with her pose. Yet something seems wrong. There is something in her eyes that clearly shows she is miles away from her inner self. I don't want to blame it all on Stella but basically she is surrounded by her and her family all the time. These random pictures with accompanying texts such as "Airbnb", "Plaza Athanée", etc. indicate a move towards endorsements unnecessary for a person of her caliber. And now this wodka thing? Whether you chose to be "fierce and empowering" with it or a "dainty sex kitten" it's the same difference. You can't fairly criticize one without criticizing the other. Mariah is a women who enjoys being a woman. I personally love that she owns her femininity and isn't afraid to show her vunerabilty while still being empowering at the same time (being in charge musically, running her empire, being a mogul.) I used to be bothered (back in the 90s) when she first started dressing more provocative for the same reasons you mentioned, but now I salute her for one: she looks great, her body is banging and secondly she being herself and isn't concerned about what others think of what she wears. My point still stands, there are female artist who are much more sexual and exposed than MC has ever been, so as long as she has the receipts and talent to back her up respect is deserved and should be given. It just sort of took on a life of its own. Imo it's iconic and harmless. People see it as shade but if we want to really dissect it Mariah was actually put on the spot when asked about JLo in that particular interview, so to avoid saying something negative she just stated that she didn't know her. Some of the recent articles that talked about the shade situation didn't even mention how the whole thing really began, almost sounding like Mariah has been picking on JLo for no reason. And yes, it was funny that "I don't know her" has been brought back after all these years but putting it up everywhere is a bit unnecessary. It's not a good look. But posting pictures with "I don't know her" signs on her own media is childish and immature and most importantly unnecessary. Why even give Jennifer the chance to come up in the headlines again? Every time this quote is brought up it is never mentioned what JLo did to deserve the insult, they only say that Mariah was pissed because Tommy replaced her with JLo. No one will bother checking if that was the reason or not. They just conclude Mariah is being petty. She is basically letting JLo have good press at the expense of her own reputation.
