Stella (59,453)

I have been getting a kick out of reading the posts regarding Stella and her kids. I brought this up back in July when MC was going all over with JP on his super yacht including Israel. I wondered how he put up, with not only having Stella, but two other kids being carted everywhere he and his date went. It just seemed odd to me back then. Now, forget it. It just is a little off. I mean, I get that she may be Mariah's friend now, in addition to manager, but, when your kids are literally at every date with Mariah and her boyfriend it seems odd to me. I said back then, that he must be a very patient man or an understanding man. I also agree that we don't see enough of Mariah and Patricia together and I wonder why that is. True, we don't know what happens begins what Mariah/Stella allow us or want us to see, but it would be refreshing to see MC and her mom out and about or photographed together or caught out together as apposed to Stella's daughters. No disrespect to them at all, I do believe Stella paid a teemed our old in doing major public relations damage control to Mariah's image and that is to be recognized. What I don't understand is why she is literally every place MC is at every moment. I guess whoever originally posted it was right, it must be at the request of MC. Stella must somewhat enjoy it though, because she has no other life either, other than what she puts out there with her sisters wedding and whatnot. Ok just thought I would weigh in on this issue too. I have been reading all along, just took a break from posting.

Mariah and James (59,452)

I just wanted to say congratulations to Mariah and James. They deserve nothing but happiness and I hope they enjoy every moment of their life together. I can tell you it is so beautiful to see Mariah as happy as she is, from seeing her at the Beacon show last year when you can see the sadness on her face and all the pain she was going through, to seeing her at the Beacon this year and how she was beaming. How her life has changed. It is truly a beautiful thing and we know that James is a fan of her music and I'm sure he wants some MC songs written for him, so I can't wait for the post Packer album material as we all are craving some new Mariah music. We all know Mariah writes some of her best material when she is in love. I can't wait for this new year, she looks the best she has looked in years and we know the inspiration is there. 2016 is going to be such a phenomenal near for our girl. It's also amazing to me how miniscule Nick has become. He really is irrelevant unless he mentions MC in an interview. Just goes to show how much she has made him. The ring is absolutely beautiful and fit for a classic queen. Millionaire or not, the fact that James Packer wanted to spend that much money on a ring for Mariah says something. He wants to treat her like royalty and she deserves it. I'm glad she gets to show Nick what he lost and Luis too, along with Tommy. I'm sure TM always thought he was the best she ever had. I say go MC. Have a beautiful wedding, put Miss Monroe is a stunning dress and Roc is an adorable ensemble along with JP's kids and enjoy the moment and enjoy the love and happiness. And on a side note Mimi L you look hot tamale. Love the picture.

I'm so over this discussion about Walter (59,449)

The man is history. Mariah doesn't need him for a hit. She's had many hits without him. I believe in her talent that she can make more amazing songs. As well as having another successful era.

I'm young 22. And I agree with you. I hope one day I can find a special lady that will let me use this song as my wedding song. It's so deep and beautiful. "Till the end of time" was the song I was referring to.

Ian, I understood your point, I wasn't attacking. I just wanted to give a possible explanation (or my opinion) as to why lambs stay slightly mad at Walter. All love dahlin', all love.

The Walter songs are all great, but I'd much rather see what MC and Ben Margulies would come up with all these years later. I still play the debut album probably the most out of all of them.

Walter (59,441)

Mimi, I wasn't trying to "discredit" Mariah's input to the songs, I was just giving an opinion on the songwriting team that was MC and Walter, personally as someone who was a lamb from day one, (I am 48 years old, lol) looking at her back catalogue I still to this day get tingles listening to Till The End Of Time, And You Don't Remember, Just To Hold You Once Again, All I've Ever Wanted etc. Those songs lyrically and production wise for me are timeless and I wonder if 20 years down the line songs like Infinity, Touch My Body or Obsessed will have the same effect. I know her style of writing changed over the years but I live in hope that we get an album at some point in the future where she strips it back production wise and lets the lyrics and voice do the talking. I also miss the days when the remix was special and rappers added to the track rather than featuring on the main mix. Maybe I am just getting old.

View from a penthouse (59,440)
by Andrew from UK
| |

|
Mariah doesn't "need" to write with anyone, per se. When Afanasieff is brought up its usually to do with an apathy about Mariah's current output and declining popularity. Nobody much wanted to buy Mariah's recent output. As much as people try to portray MIAM as a jewel that failed due to fate, it was a little clunky musically with too many tracks that could have been left on the floor, and felt too much like the usual over-produced R&B. One commentator wrote: "Carey has a ragged determination to prove that she's still street on every album and it's hard to do that when you're looking down from the penthouse." Well, given the lifestyle now being pushed in the media that penthouse looks a whole lot further from the ground, and, hypothetically, even less people will identify with her and buy into her music. Working with Walter or somebody like him to produce Adult Contemporary Pop could have her selling again. Yet, I'm not sure anybody really believes she'll change musical direction. Can only hope.

I don't think lambs hate on Walter or try to discredit his input but I am guessing (from personal experience) what annoys them more is when it is suggested that Mariah "needs" Walter to write a decent song. Yes they had great iconic songs together, but Mariah didn't stop writing cheesy (in a good way) big ballads after that. I think people try to credit Walter so much for her initial songs that they forget Mariah was equally responsible for them. Don't forget that Walter may be successful but he is best know for his work with Mariah so why discredit Mariah's input in her songs? And Mariah is also an artist and an artist works her best when she is inspired and set free to follow their vision and the songs that she had with Walter were just not the type she was into. We have to embrace that. Plus Mariah had WBT almost 10 years after Walter and that song is also iconic and one of her most successful so no, not all of her new tracks are "throwaways". Do I crave a new sound from Mariah? Yes? Do I think she needs to go back to someone who once made a good writing partner but eventually betrayed her when she was at her most vulnerable? No.

Opulence vs. extravagance (59,437)
by Nikki from usa

It was funny when MC and Nick broke up how Wendy was claiming Mariah was old and no one would want her. Then, she broke the news of her dating Packer and claimed Packer was using her for fame. She said MC was "fragile" and hoped she didn't fall in love because James is a playboy and not interested in the long term. They get engaged and Wendy won't even report it. Mariah's concerts and tours have always been bare-boned. It's always centered around her voice with limited bells and whistles. It would be nice if MC would up her game in the visual areas for a show's entertainment quality, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It took Celine 3 years before critics agreed the show no longer overshadowed her singing. Either you sing live with magnificent vocals or you rely on performance. Take a look at J.Lo hosting the AMA's and MC's dress at the Billboard Awards. She threw shade at Mariah's residency with her Spears comment too and now she's naming her own after the music video that had LL Cool J throwing a butterfly into a fire. J.Lo's first attempt at a residency was rejected for asking too much money. The fact is her only world tour didn't sell well. She held a concert with 25,000 free tickets in her home town and less than half showed up. They thought she was fake and a sell out. She's going to Vegas to cash in on tourists which is her best bet. I wouldn't worry about it.

That annoyed me so much. Like if you are giving the album away for free and have Samsung pay for it then obviously it'll go platinum. From what I heard, most of her fans didn't even enjoy the album. Jay-Z trying so hard to make Tidal happen and he got 1 million subscribers for Tidal after Rihanna released her hyped album for free but aren't these trial subscribers who will eventually close the account after a month?

If you read this article, then you will see that Samsung (who she signed a deal with) bought 1 million copies and gave it away as free downloads. So it's easy to go platinum if you have the support of a big corporation buying a million copies and giving it away as free downloads.

Walter and new sounds (59,433)
by David F from Mexico

Hola back, some of you agree about Walter greatness and chemistry with Mariah like Ian from UK. He wrote just the truth , you all know he knows a lot about musical arrangements and instruments, that was my point, and they just click, time has passed and maybe he has something big for her in mind. He knows Mariah's voice structure and they can try something not necessarily to be destined a huge hit. I just love what they created together. I want that magic back.

I thought this was quite lovely. She really made it her own. Mariah should be very proud that this little "schmaltzy" song, she originally wrote for Gloria Estefan, is such an anthem going on 20 years now. At my school it was covered a lot in the mid 90's during our talent shows (ironically, never by me). It's still probably the case. Good luck Deolinda, you have a very nice voice.

She gave her album away and now her PR team are claiming it was an error, bahaha. The RIAA is recognizing Anti's milestone numbers, Billboard and Nielsen are not counting Anti's sales on Tidal towards their totals.

by Ian from United Kingdom

I hate how some people are so anti Walter, we should not forget that together they were an amazing songwriting team and gave us what I believe to be some of her best work ever, she was writing serious work which will last forever, more than the throwaway over produced tracks featuring too many rappers we won't even remember in 10 years time. Respect is due to a very talented man who at the time was a major part of producing those big ballads we all love. Just saying.
