Todd / two concerts (47,890) by Norman from USA
Hey Todd. Both concerts? Wow. How lucky are you? That's awesome. Congrats. And thank you so much for sharing a little bit of your experience with us. It really must've been amazing live. Just wow. Thanks again. I'm just so glad our girl keeps getting better and better with each concert. I can't wait for what she does next. Cheers to everyone. Hope everyone's doing great.

Re: "Across 110th Street" (47,889) by Billy from Greece
Something more regarding its inclusion in the tour: according to the Same Same article reviewing one of the Australian "Chanteuse" shows, they write this: "Across 110th Street is a movie of an African-American and Italian-American police duo that grapeoplees with important themes of power and race relations. 110th street being the boundary for Harlem. If you've been to New York, 110th Street is a long way from One World Trade Centre. It's been characterised as being part of the genre of Blaxploitation." The Womack song is an anthem about the struggle to get out of the ghetto. Maybe there is a concept behind using it to open the show, in relation to the "chanteuse" persona MC supports in the show (gowns, jazz covers, sitting on the piano). Great song in any case.

Mariah the boss (47,888) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Mariah does best when she trusts her own inner voice and keeps her faith as a compass when things get rocky. She didn't sell her songs during those early days before Warner and Sony were fighting to sign her, even though she was a dirty poor, hungry and desperate 18 year old girl. Why? Because she knew her worth as a singer songwriter and was confident enough, thank God, to trust that her vision of love would come to be. Going with her passion has paid off more often than not. M's worst decisions seem to come about from letting outside pressures into her head. That's why her being without a manager right now is a good thing IMO. It's going to force her to figure out what she really wants out of her life at this point, streamline it if you will. The longer MC is without a manager, the better. Being the boss of her own enterprises will do her a world of good as well as those who work for her. Them being directly accountable to her, even for a short period of time is always going to be a good thing. Keeps everybody on their toes. Mimi deserves to be happy with her children, live a full, passionate and long life with a man who loves her for the real person she is, and dembabies too, as genuinely as she will love them. Mariah's never going to give up making music, fingers crossed, and she doesn't owe me, or anyone else for that matter, anything. She's already given the public her all for close to 25 years. Now is the perfect time for us lambs to pay her back with our loyalty.

Reuben, Across 110th street (47,886) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
It's Bobby Womack's signature song. He passed away just this June and so I guess Mariah's paying him tribute in that way. Remember: "If you think you're lonely now" (wait until tonight, girl) from WBT? That was his other song she played homage to along with Babyface's: "I only think of you" (on two occasions). R I.P. You are missed.

That's ridiculous. As if she needs their advice.

Walter (47,884) by Dennis from Miami, FL
The essence of Walter is in this video. In the end he says in Russian "Don't show it to my wife."

Across 110th Street (47,883) by Reuben Walton from United States
What is it? I can't figure out if it's a song she wrote or an intro or what. The concert footage I've seen doesn't really make it clear. Anyone wanna help out a confused lamb?

One Sweet Day (47,882) by Ty from USA
I really liked Mariah and Nathanel's version. It was live and full of emotion. No she didn't sound perfect but she gave us enough of what we needed. Cute moment.

Re: Jay (47,881) by nikki from usa
Have you noticed this weird spell Mariah casts on the males she encounters? Mottola was obsessed with her even after marrying her. Then, set on ending her career rather than seeing her soar without him. Walter pops up every other Christmas and can't seem to stop talking about her. Eminem has a few encounters with her and can't shut up for a decade. Nick was openly crushing on her for years on tv before meeting her and continued until they were married. Luis Miguel simply met her, made her his girlfriend, and jetted around the world with her for 2 years. Damizza can't completely let her go. Far more amusing, The Rock stopped an interviewer in mid-sentence to hug her and chat her up. Heck, who am I kidding? I met Mariah 12 years ago and I can't stop talking about her. Mariah must be some weird humanoid drug. It takes a 12 step program to get over her.

Mariah in Melbourne (47,880) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
I just had a weekend with not one, but two Mariah concerts. She was absolutely phenomenal. The videos that I have recorded and seen online don't do her justice. The Friday night show in Melbourne was definitely the better of the two, the Yarra Valley one was too short, felt bad for the audience because I knew what they were missing out on. I do wish she'd sung a bit of AIWFCIY, but hell we got One Sweet Day instead. Friday was definitely the best concert I've seen, even better than the January 2013 Australian shows. Oh, and as a side note, I can't get get Across 110th Street out of my head now.

We need someone to control us, don't be an [censored] (47,879) by nikki from usa
Walter, I wish you'd control your mouth and move on already. Especially, after the recent article where you chastise Mariah for reinventing "Want" a couple of times over 20 years, for new generations and genres no less. Then, actually assume she's trying to surpass the original, but now you've reinvented the song? For real? Sour grapes indeed. Hypocrisy to boot. Lambs, do correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know there's only the R&B/hip-pop version with a cartoon video, and the Justin B. duet for the emerging EDM crowd. Both are targeting different audiences. It's a smart business move and refreshing to change things up once in a blue moon. I agree with Jay and Baby. Walter hasn't known Mariah for 17 years. Fool, please, if you cared you wouldn't trash her in public by acting like you know what's up with her. You couldn't control her and clearly she didn't need you to. Why is he still talking about her? Move on to Celine Dion. She does all the things you want Mariah to do.

Re: Ken pic (47,878) by nikki from usa
Yes. It's been awhile, but I remember that pic. That's Mariah, Josephine, and the other girl they lived with in her first apartment. Josephine is riding in the car with MC in the Emotions video, she went on to be a talk show host in her native Sweden. Once and awhile you can still see the two of them vacationing together.

Edward / Jenny (47,877) by Jesse from Australia
Thank you, Edward and Jenny, for your reassurance. The clip should restore faith in some lambs who are skeptical of her ability to do it all "live" in with her voice in its current state.

Baby / Walter (47,876) by Edward from USA
Baby, I didn't actually get that far in the interview the first time, but when I revisited it I was out of words. Neither Walter nor his co-hosts knew that "Emblazoned" was an actual word. No wonder why Mariah made that comment on Watch What Happens Live about "AIWFCIY". Walter is thirsty, but Mariah's not giving him anything to drink. I think it is time for him to move one, because I'm pretty sure Mariah won't work with him again, she doesn't need him.

Smearing (47,875) by Jay from USA
Every time I post a message I mention how I think that there is a smear campaign against Mariah. Now, with this Walter A. interview, I am definitely convinced. What I don't understand is why someone is still hung up on Mariah like that.

Baby (47,872) by Abraham from USA
I hear what you're saying, but enough already. There's no need to keep bringing Walter up and bashing him. Leave the man alone and move on. As Mariah says, "There's an art of letting go." And that is exactly what you should do.

Hero climax (47,869) by Jenny from South Africa
Considering that Mariah didn't hide her face at all when she sang the climax in Hero I would say she sang it 100% live. She's been singing better and better with each show so I don't think I'm being naive to think this ending was definitely live. I'll admit she struggled with One Sweet Day though. That wasn't easy to watch but she's been singing Hero and Emotions so well recently that I think we can cut her some slack on One Sweet Day. And it's so sweet that she's been giving Nathaniel such an opportunity.

Bring it on home (47,868) by Abraham from USA
Wil Mariah ever release this beautiful, amazing song? She'd make me the happiest fan if she did. It's too good of a song to be wasted.

Ageism: reality or fantasy? (47,867) by nikki from usa
A lot of people have the assumption that as an artist gets older they simply lose their appeal or people aren't interested. But, I've noticed this trend. After a newbie becomes big, they're generally promoted heavily for the next 5 years. After that, there's always the initial promotional push, but it's essentially up to the artist and the momentum of the past 5 years to carry them. As long as the music is good it does. But, over the course of the next 5 years they're simply not as heavily promoted. After that, it's up to the artist to figure it out. All of this breaks down to exposure which I think has more to do with the music selling than the artists' declining marketability. Right now, the music industry is eating itself. The biggest consumers of music are 45+ which Mariah's current album would appeal to, but it's the teens and 20 something's that listen to the radio and go to concerts. It's a slippery slope. If Mariah were to do an album of jazz, Motown, and blues inspired by 60's music and up it would sell millions if she sang it live on Oprah, Today, and had a special. Wouldn't that be ironic? I'd like to hear Mariah sing Black Velvet or Fever.

One Sweet Day (47,866) by nikki from usa
In her earlier concerts her voice quality had an audible illness to it, but this is different. At this point her cold is gone, but her "struggles" during her belting sounds more like the "Kermit the Frog I just woke up sound" than the "I can't sing like I used to" vocal. I was concerned about her being overly ambitious with this tour by only giving herself 2-3 days in between shows. Two days isn't really "rest" when you're traveling continents and being a full time mom of two. I hope in the future Mariah regresses back to her '96 routine of 1 concert per week or every 5-6 days. Over the course of the past decade Mariah's had some "off" performances, but I think that has more to do with spreading herself too thin. Everyone always brings up back in the '90's, but back then Mariah didn't have to promote anywhere near the degree she has since the internet age took over. A voice change should be expected over 20 years, but I don't think the reality is nearly as bad as most think. This seems to be more of a maintenance issue.

Jesse / Hero (47,865) by Edward from USA
Hi Jesse. You're not new to visiting MCArchives, but since that was your first post, I wanted to say welcome aboard. As for the "Hero" YouTube video you posted, I personally think that Mariah didn't lipsync any part of it, she was actually singing live. Whenever Mariah is about to lipsync to the difficult parts of her songs, she usually does one or a combination of the following: a) Spins around as if she were in a beauty pageant, b) Covers her face with her left arm making it seem as if she were feeling the spirit or waving to the audience, and c) Face the musicians giving her back to the audience momentarily. She doesn't do any of those things when she's confidently singing live.
