Seriously Adam, your post gave me chills. It seems like you actually derive pleasure from seeing "karma" get her. And you write about her "pulling the wool over our eyes" as though she's the only entertainer in the industry who uses tricks to put on a good show. Kelly Price is a woman jealous that someone else was more successful than her, plain and simple.

I'm not sure if your post was partly directed at me or not, but I feel like it was because of the "downfall" line so I will respond. I don't tell people not to write their opinions, people can write whatever they want. If Mariah ever stumbles onto this fan site, maybe it's good for her to read those opinions too. Some comments feel harsh and insensitive to me and I want to counter those comments with my unconditional support of whatever she chooses to do with her life. That's why I write what I write. I don't tell myself and others that Mariah can do wrong, I see it for myself, I just have faith that she can fight through it and pull herself together. Mariah has been in bad situations because she's human. We've all experienced low points in our lives and careers and sometimes we don't cope with them in healthy ways. Usually we don't stay there though, and especially not if someone helps us. I know that when I've gone through tough stuff in my life I really appreciated when people were compassionate and told me "the truth" gently and with love. Like they were on my side. That's what I try to do for others. People are already "giving her the real" on here, the last few days that's mostly what it's been. Even though I do want more music, the reason I think it's a good idea for her to work is not coming from a selfish place in me. If she stopped making music today, I already have enough music from her to last me for the rest of my life. I would like for her to make at least one more album filled with hope, and out of this mess, but if it didn't happen, I would be okay with that too. The reason I want for her to work is because I think she needs it. I honestly don't think she's just doing it for the money. She knows herself and if she decided now wasn't the time for a residency, and she felt it was best for her to take a break for awhile, I would be fully supportive of that as well. I trust that she knows what's best for herself. Her legendary status will not die out. Elvis, Judy Garland, and countless others had sloppy performances at times, but when people look back, they remember and talk about the great performances. I don't believe Mariah will be giving sloppy performances in Vegas.

Of course her actions are offensive to some degree but those actions are also mistakes. Something even she is entitled to no matter how much you think she owes you. This doesn't mean she shouldn't learn from those mistakes though. Which we all hope she is. We've all supported her by purchasing her music/tickets and she has shown that she can be on top form like at the Beacon. She is obviously coping with what's happening in her life by working but that's showing in her performances. Unfortunately there isn't a lot we can do about what ever is going on with her and behind the scenes. We can hope she reads this messageboard as there are many people here who give out sound and respectable advice. However, saying she should retire is rude and disrespectful criticism. An artist can't evolve if they do nothing. Thankfully she isn't doing nothing, so let us hope she can sort herself out because ultimately she is the only one who can.

Mariah's karma / Mandy Monroe (49,749) by ADAM from USA
Thank you Mandy Monroe for your comments earlier about karma. Your sentiments are my thoughts exactly. As a fan it's what's been frustrating me so long and more as time goes on that she keeps trying to pull the wool over our eyes and it just aint right. I think this period is lower than Glitter ever was and is even more destructive. She's is a embarrassment now. Look at any of the news media who run stories about Mariah now and all the comments are lampooning her. The public is over her lies and feels she needs to come clean. Kelly Price knew Mariah much more closely than anyone of us and she would be privy to all the tips and tricks Mariah did back in the day to conceal her shortcomings. All deeds done in the dark eventually come to light and this is her time. I'm not a debbie-downer but calling it like I see it. Mariah is no different than anyone else pulling a scam over our eyes. Some people on here need to take her off the idolized position she's on and realize its not healthy to view her as Christ. I hope she musters the courage the stop her own downfall and come clean. Time will tell.

Divorcing (49,706) by Nina (49,748) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
If memory serves I think there was something similar with Tommy Mottola. She still gives broad answers whenever asked about her marriage to Tommy. I could not find it but I think a videoclip of Mariah being asked about Tommy that is floating around, the interviewer acknowledging that she is under a confidentiality agreement before asking the question. The closest straight forward explanation was with Larry king 2002. At the end of our day Mariah and Nick is really none of our business. If either want to cross the bridge later that is up to them.

The non lambs (49,746) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
People who call out fans who have the "audacity" *sarcasm* to point out any of Mariah's shortcomings really will be the reason of Mariah's downfall. Words cannot describe how much I love this woman, eventhough I never met her, in many ways she has changed my life and helped me in situations where I felt helpless. But I will not stand by and keep telling myself (and others) that Mariah can do no wrong and the only way one can qualify as a fan is accepting that Mariah has no flaws at all. That's silly. This is exactly why MC has been in this situation several times. People not telling her the truth or in Mary's word "giving her the real". MC is an artist with enormous talent, but one has to admit that she can be a mess sometimes. Especially now. While I will never ask her to retire (because I am selfish like that, I want more and more of MC), I would advice her to only take up projects when she can properly deliver on it. Taking up work just for the sake of it and then being a mess infront of the world is not helping her in anyway. There is a saying "there is no such thing as bad publicity" but when someone who is known as The Voice is only in the news because of her bad and messed up performances and vocal conditions, then I am sorry it is very bad publicity. I see some people here are still talking about how all artists lip-sync, such as Beyonce. Um, have you seen Beyonce perform? With her grueling dance routines and the enormous effort put in her stage performance, and the amount of though put in her stage effects and overall show. I think people will gladly forgive her for not singing live. Because one can't jump around like that and still hit all the right notes. But that's not the case for MC. She has been allowed to sing in one place and use the only thing she needed, her voice, to wow the audience. So yes it is a big deal if she lipsyncs, but not when people like Gaga or Britney does it. Those people were never pegged as legendary singers eitherways. I think MC should really look at her performances and see put herself in her fan's position and judge for herself if she is doing the right thing. I understand why she probably doesn't see her bad performances, I sometimes do it, if I write a bad paper, and I know it's bad, I don't feel like going through it again and instead just submit it to get it over with and move on. But my paper is not viewed by the world, MC's performance is. She signed up for it, so now she has to take responsibility. I pray and hope MC realizes this and works on it. Day by day her status as the untouchable legend is deteriorating and if she continues we will be the last generation that looked at her as a legend because others will just know her as a messy performer. MC please don't let your legendary status die out, if not for yourself than do it for your fans.

Offended (49,745) by G.G. from USA
People are "offended" by others being critical of Mariah's bad behavior/performances and suggesting retirement, yet they aren't offended by Mariah being consistently late, low budget stage production, lip synching poorly, walking off stage in the middle of a song, and sounding bad when she does sings live. Alrighty then.

Knowing when (49,744) by MimiLamb from Germany
I'm actually laughing, some pretend like 90% of the people here still believe everything is fine and dandy, but like Shelly already mentioned that maybe 1% thinks that. There is a difference between knowing and still believing and knowing and not believing. When you think she should retire fine, think that and move on. Enough people including myself still think she has it, so we will stick around. Who are others to tell me I can't feel that way. Time will tell, but I'm tired of reading the same thing over and over again. We got it, we all saw it, and we all know it. Do you think by going around in circles makes it better? Changes what happened? There is just one person that can change something, that is Mariah herself, and we will see if she changed when she starts her Vegas residency. Nobody is forcing anybody to stick around, to go to her Vegas show or buy her music. So if you do want to just don't do it and leave it at that.

The voice (49,743) by B from USA
Mariah's voice is fragile. It always has been. Her live performances have always been hit or miss. She's over 40 and strained her voice during the 90's.

Retirement (49,742) by Luke from United Kingdom
I find it almost offensive when people keep saying she should retire. I agree she should probably take a break now and focus on Vegas but not retire. As an artist, I'd be pretty annoyed if I was having a bad time and people started saying "Just stop doing what you love and retire." Just because you don't like watching her make mistakes like every other human on the planet, does not mean she should stop doing what she states is her saving grace. Apart from her children, her music might be the only thing from taking her down the path that none of us want to see. Ragardless of the mishaps that have been happening on stage.

Enablers (49,740) by Dove from USA
There are very few posts on this site from people who act like nothing is wrong, I would say 1% or less. There are people who haven't lost hope, like myself, but hope is not what's going to bring her down. Other people will not be her downfall because each person is responsible for their own destiny. If anything is toxic, it's your attitude of defeat and doom. I think cowardly is not having hope and instead choose the default, which is failure. Do you really think if Mariah fails this will be the end of her? After 25 years do you truly believe her legacy will be forever tarnished? People look back at the Glitter era and are endeared to her even more for not being perfect. I think it's cruel to tell her to retire when she obviously doesn't want to, or else she would have. Nobody is forcing her to do anything. It's obviously an outlet for her and maybe she needs us right now. I am choosing to be there for her, rain or shine. If she's not good enough for you, don't go see her. I assure you, when the time comes, plenty of people still will. The people who will be at her Vegas shows are the ones who were suppossed to be there.

YouTube (49,739) by Jon from Netherlands
If you write Mariah Carey on YouTube the second search result is now "Mariah Carey lip sync fail". To the people that are being "positive": you are helping to destroy one of the best things to ever happen to music. It's not about the best moments of a show. It's about the worst moments of a show.

Mariah's voice (49,738) by juan from Dubai
Mimi's voice was never always at the top. Her best days were early 90's, Unplugged, Music Box, Daydream Japan, Charmbracelet, start of TEOM, AMA performance of "I stay in love", last day of the Christmas series. In the early days, she was criticized for not being a regular live singer on tv guestings. And there is even a audio recording of Music Box tour, in LA, where her voice is completely cracked up and can't sing because of colds. So we hope the Vegas will be a fabulous glittery show with some toned-down sets focusing on her legendary voice.

Enablers (49,737) by G.G. from USA
These fans who act like nothing is wrong and say others are "not fans" for stating the truth are toxic enablers. That's the type of people that Mariah probably has surrounded herself with now. "Your Jamaica concert was perfect Mariah." This is why this won't get better, no one is telling her the truth. It's like telling an addict they don't need rehab. All of these delusional, fake people who are too cowardly to tell the truth will be her downfall. Sad.

Chill down, that Jamaican gig was a small gig. Whatever happens, Vegas will be ok to great, just like any other of her concerts. Have a look at this and promote.

Las Vegas here we come (49,735) by jaker20 from US
I knew this was gonna happen, some of you should read up my posts when Vegas was announced. She can't do it. With what we've seen, it's just not physically possible to turn back time. What she needs to do is change her catalog, or stop that Vegas residency completely or she will completely lose what is remaining of her voice once and for all. This Vegas deal with related to her emotional turmoil, to forget her heartbreak. She is listening to yes people behind her. This is not the right way to go. Sure, accuse me for acting like I know MC. But you don't know her either. All we know is that this is not working. Her voice is too fragile. Vegas will be her end. Instead, she should concentrate on recording new material where she is not belting. Will that cost her fans? Most definitely it will. Because fans just want her to belt until her voice is gone. But, she will gain new ones. And at least she will be able to continue to work, because at the rate she's going, the end of her voice and career is fast approaching into one of the most massive career embarrassments of all time. This is why some fans call for her retirement because her decline is so painful to watch.

Kind and soft retirement advice (49,734) by jaker20 from US
This retirement topic has been brought up long before this - yet another - lip-syncing embarrassment. I've said it before and I'll say it again: MC should stop singing her oldies she can't sing live. She has a big catalog where she doesn't have to belt. Will people recognize the songs? No, maybe not. But that is a better alternative than constantly lipping and backtracking. Because right now, she herself has brought her lip synching into public knowledge. Before, it was just fans who notice it. Now it's practically on the mainstream, not just now, but repeatedly, over and over she expose herself to embarrassment. Then she slays live like the Christmas concert but nobody notice, because her low is so low and embarrassing, no one cares anymore if she's good when she's good. MC doesn't need to retire, she just needs to chance her catalog. People won't recognize the songs, but they will at least appreciate her, she's not destroying her legacy and she's not embarassing herself. Enough is enough with WTB, VOL and those belt songs we all know she's lipping. Her ego can't admit she can't sing them anymore. She's scared no one will sing along to her unknown songs. But that's not true. People will love her more for trying.

Negativity? (49,733) by Jay from USA
I've been thinking about all this going on with Mariah. It doesn't make sense that she is acting aloof with this nonsense. Some people are claiming we are watching her start to have a new breakdown. But even that doesn't make sense. Last time, and I'm old enough to remember as it happened, she left the messages, Louise would rip the microphone from her hands as she gave an interview. However now it's like everything she does is normal to her. "Let me stand here and not love my lips", "let me walk off the stage as I'm singing", "let me not comment on any of this and sign a contract to do Vegas". I wonder if all this just a ploy for her to come out with her first album with Sony and bam, second comeback. Maybe I'm being naive. But it just doesn't make sense that no one in her family has done anything to snap her out of her funk. Her mom, Shawn, or even her brother. All this negative media might be intentional so when the "comeback" starts, it'll be "look, she's been down in the dumps and came back". In all seriousness, I hope she's okay. I'm not here to impose a retirement on her it whatever. She has enough negative people, fans, non fans, media. If I'm reading too much into this (I have no PR experience, so idk) but I hope she's good.

It's not about perfection (49,731) by Edward from USA
Nobody is expecting perfection from Mariah, those 90's days are gone. People want Mariah to be the professional we all know she can be. If there's something going wrong with a track, stop it, joke about it, sort it out, and start again, she's done that before, and the audience laughed if off with her. Mariah looked as if she was either drunk or high on stage, and walking off stage leaving a recording behind is unacceptable no matter how many divorces she's going through. If she wasn't feeling well, she shouldn't have taken the gig, as simple as that. Some people think that fans alone will go to Vegas, when in reality most of the tickets will be bought by the GP, and no casual listener is going to spend their good money to see Mariah spin around with a very bad case of miming just because she's Mariah Carey and she entitled to it. She shouldn't retire, she's still young, she just need to (all caps) "get it together". Once you fall, the only option is to get up. I don't think she could fall any lower. My heart is broken.

"There is no mistaking my posts for anti-lamb or you would have been quoting me instead of trying to rewrite my posts like we all don't have eyes and fingers to scroll with." So I quote you multiple times and it's still an issue. At this point it doesn't matter if I write a dissertation on your posts, which I'm sure would be your next request. Nothing will be resolved. No one on any online messageboard is worth all of that effort. Case dismissed.

Honesty (49,729) by Jon from Netherlands
About the night in Tokyo when she appeared to not know the lyrics to WBT is it so bad to stop the show and be honest and say: I'm going through a really hard time and I can't do this song? Everybody would understand and relate. Like this it feels like she's having mental issues. Be honest. Cry your heart out if you want on stage. Don't go on without acknowledging the problem, that is just awful. The headline would be: Mariah carey is heart broken and can't finish song. That is actually completely acceptable. Take 5, come back, talk with the audience and do other song. Something different btw. At this point one of Mariah's biggest problems is her inflexibility. She goes to a jazz festival and does the same old songs. And no it's no ok to accept dirty money and no she's no having a pre-breakdown. It's a full blown meltdown. It's just very hidden because she doesn't show up in public but these glimpses we have are enough to let us now something is extremely wrong. There is nothing wrong with showing love for her but please guys don't be enablers: tell her to stay home.

Nope Kelly Price was still wrong for that (49,728) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
Respect her for what? Throwing stones and hiding her hands? Publicly trying to tear down the women who virtually gave her a career? If she was "keeping it" so "real", she would've told Mariah that to her face, or better yet reached out to her to try to help her or pray for her situation. I don't respect people that try to kick you when you're down. Grant it MC has been in a mess of a tailspin lately, but if someone is your real friend that has regards for you as a person/peer in the business, they wouldn't use social media to bash you publicly.

Re: Nina, divorce (49,727) by Ardis Logic from Earth
It really is hard to say what happened. Since there is a confidentiality agreement between Nick and Mariah, neither one of them can say anything about it unless they want to pay a huge fine (I believe it's $250, 00 for Nick and $500,000 for Mariah). Who came up with that crazy ass agreement is what I want to know. I wonder if they will be talking about it after the divorce is final or if the agreement is forever. Usually Mariah talks through her music but sometimes it's hard to know who she is talking about. I really have a feeling that Nick never loved her, he was just using her to get more famous. He "love bombed" her in the beginning (narcissist ) acting like Prince Charming. Then once he was in and they had "dem babies" everything started to change. Just listen to "Camouflage" that is the whole story right there, or at least that what it seems like. We will never know really until MC talks about it herself. We can only speculate and assume.

Retirement (49,726) by Jon from Netherlands
Yes, please. Reason? The "Jazz organizer mum on Mariah" article. A lot of us here are blind. I'm not. Not anymore. There is no chance of going out with a bang. It's dead. Just leave the stage. We all love her too much and I sincerely don't want to see her go on like this. Edith Piaf ended like this but at least she had health issues. What people here don't get is that this can get much much worse. Maybe Mariah is not as strong as she used to be. Losing the love of your life must be extremely painful and maybe she can't come back from that (at least not anytime soon). Do we really want her to continue going down? We're watching a runner trip, fall, have everyone step on him and we are going to cheer him to go on? Stop immediatly and get the help you need. I really wish I could do something to help her but I can't. Reminds me of the Whitney interview when she said she went to a therapist for celebreties and people that go through that type of pressure. Mariah needs the same. And like Whitney just stay home in your pijamas, wait for the kids to come back from school and live a easy live. Maybe in 5 years we'll se you again. We'll miss you but it will be better than this. To those who still believe: what else does it take? Doesn't it break your heart? Telling her to continue it's not being nice, it's kind of sadistic. She's getting to the point that even her haters are gonna start feeling sorry for her. When that point comes she will have reduced herself to a joke.
