Vocal inconsitiences (50,221)
by B from USA

I agree Mariah's voice is inconsistent. I don't think it's from drinking or doing drugs but from not rehearsing. The vocal cords are like muscles, they need to be exercised and stretched and warmed up to work properly. She needs to retrain her voice because all eyes and ears will be on her for the opening night of her residency, especially after the Rockefeller and Jamaica Jazz debacles.

Thanks for replying Luke, I remember KISS playing the Fantasy remix a lot a few years back, I think during their "KISStory" segment. John John, Heart is the one radio station I never listen to lol. I shall start as I'm sick of Smooth and Magic having a love affair with every other female singer except Mariah. I must hear Whitney, Aretha and Celine at least three times a day each on those stations. I don't know why it is, but Mariah just seems to sound wonderful on the radio. Better than the CD, not sure why that is. I think I posted it here when it happened, but I had to wait in all day for a delivery once and had Magic playing. I almost had a heart attack when Dreamlover came on. It sounded glorious.

Just a thought (50,219)

I agree with the person who said that Mariah should include some celebrities in one of her videos. That would be great. She had some cool people in the "It's like that" and "We belong together" videos. Brian McKnight, Went Worthmiller is it? And Julia Robert's brother. She could feature people who are relevant or hot right now. Pitbull would cool, he's a fan and didn't he mention Mariah recently? I've always wanted Mariah to do another "It's like that" type video, where she's going to some special ball or party. And she arrives looking beautiful and has some celebrities or music artists in it waiting for her. Basically waiting for Mariah to make an entrance and start the party. Anyone agree?

This radio station always plays Mariah. At least twice a day. It varies on which era there play but she is heard on UK radio daily. PS. I can't wait to go to Vegas for Opening Night. I am nervous though. I'm hoping for a smooth ride, no complications.

Edward, Orkun and Shelly (50,217)

Edward and Orkun, I tip my cap, Sirs. I'm mostly over raging against the machine now, anyway. I think nearly all hope is lost but that's well documented. I'm really not fussed about people loathing me. I'm fussed about Mariah Carey's career, after 22 years of supporting it. And my integrity. At least, for the most part, the conversation really has leapt forward a little bit. Like Marissa, you make valiant points and I applaud you for doing so. You have a right to have Mariah respond to you, although I think Mariah's a little over talking to her fans anymore, however. Shelly, being cheated on is massively hurtful. But tell yourself you are awesome every day and smile and I promise it feels better. And Taylor, I just don't have the words, but when I need some I sure know where to come. My curiosity is satisfied, not clarified, for which I am grateful. And try not to end sentences with a preposition. I promise that feels better, too. Let's not get so worked up. Nothing really matters. Madonna sang it in her popular 1998 hit, "Nothing Really Matters". Must be true.

Hey Bill, I believe my work had it on Kiss when it was on one of their R'n'B episodes. They played "Heartbreaker" and "WBT", and then when I turned it over "It's Like That" was on but I can't remember what channel it was.

Hi Luke, what station(s) did you hear MC on? I hardly ever hear her on the radio here except for the occasional Hero and AIWFCIY during December. What songs were played? I remember a long time ago (about ten years) hearing Emotions randomly played, which wasn't even a big hit over here, and I loved the female DJ cutting in during the "giggle" at the end of the song saying "How on earth does she sing so high?" Lol.

My opinion (50,211)
by B from USA
| |
|

After critics questioned whether Carey would embark on a world tour to promote her material she explained that stage fright and the style of her songs made a tour very daunting. When I read comments and articles about Mariah's recent performances I think of the quote above. She's Mariah Carey. She is The Voice. I'm looking forward to her Las Vegas residency and the reissue of #1's. Her voice is fragile but when rested and rehearsed she can still slay.

Fresh Off The Boat Mariah mention (50,209)
by Isiah from USA
| |
|
|
In episode 4 of the new ABC sitcom "Fresh Off the Boat" which is set in 1995, the narrator mentioned Mariah. Basically the parents of the main character were preparing the house because family from out of town was visiting. To paraphrase: "My parents prepared the house like Mariah Carey was visiting. And I mean pre-Nick Cannon, hot, Washington Wizard Jersey-wearing, Mariah freaking Carey. They even put lemon trees in the house." It made me laugh.

Vocal consistency (50,205)
by Eternal from Italy
| |
|
|
I think this video might alleviate the fears of some lambs that Mariah has gone kooky or lost her voice. The way she talked and the way she sung the song proved that on a good night she's still the Mariah Carey we knew and loved. Her little speech sounded very similar to how she spoke during the Daydream tour. In her earlier years she had her fair share of misses as well (some of the Music Box tour, for example), but it was still more ups than downs. The reverse is now true, and as a fan, it gives you jitters every time you see her on a stage, because we don't want her to be ridiculed by the press or the general public. I don't think she's really delusional though. The press is making her out to be a total nutcase, past her prime and heading for a breakdown, but if you've watched Nightcrawler recently you'll see how much verity there is in many news reports that depend on such 'sensational' stories to get viewership/readership. They don't want to report the objective truth. Truth is when you show both her horrible mic feed at Rockefeller but also the amazing performance of Hero at the final Beacon show, and reach a conclusion that she has lots of vocal inconsistencies.

Hey there. Yes I do think one major thing MC needs to do is communicate with her fan, and no not just retweeting stuff and saying replying to one of two tweets, but she she should instead take an initiative to reach out to her fans and just state her problem. While I respect her privacy and so I would not ask her to divulge personal information about her divorce if she chooses not to, but I think she should atleast admit publicly that she is going through a rough time and ask the fans to give her some time. For her vocal issues, I think if she just comes out and say that the constant overuse of her voice has left it a little worn out and that she is either trying to get it back or she tried but couldn't I can guarantee that her fans will not judge her. In fact they'll stop bashing her so much. A major complaint from my side, and I am sure for others too, has been MC is all up on social media tweeting and retweeting the most random things while keeping mum about the tornado that is happening around her. She never acknowledged her recent bad performances, and people might think she doesn't even understand her mistake, so I think it's best for her to just issue a statement or go on Oprah or best do a documentary. We fans always will love and support her but she needs to also show us some respect and let us know that she is not turning a blind eye towards all that is going on.

Happy Mariah week (50,202)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I heard 2 songs from MC's last album while out and about this past week. I used to think only hit singles played in public but I guess not. I heard Meteorite at the Burlington Coat Factory and YDKWTD playing at the mall. I heard Emotions, Hero, One Sweet Day, We Belong Together, and Fantasy on the radio in the past 5 days. Did anyone hear the new Pitbull song? It has a Mariah mention in it. Apparently, he thinks she's pretty hot. It was a great Valentine's week.

If you check your old postings you'll see that there was a history between us that thankfully didn't last. When I first started posting here you were one of the people I really didn't feel because of your words. You hardly had anything nice to say about Mariah and were putting her down. But then I came to know Andrew, and saw you were nothing compared to him. I want to let you know that you can be as harsh as you want. No need to hold back. I appreciate your apology and on my behalf do the same. I have no hate or grudge towards you. Your posts are so much better now. I just don't see how anyone can side with Andrew?

Communicating with the fans (50,200)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
Mimi L.'s call for MC to address the lambs directly got me thinking. I think so many people are frustrated with MC not just because of the issues that she's having, but because of the fact that she never addresses those issues publicly. Vocal issues are never spoken of. Emotional problems are never discussed. There's always smoke and mirrors. She may not necessarily owe us an explanation for her struggles whether vocally or emotionally, but if she wants to stop the madness it would be wise to do so. People can be more understanding when they know what's going on. For example, if Mariah did an interview where she said that she had tried everything to get her voice back and it's just never going to be the same, I would never speak negatively about her voice again because at least she would be being honest. It's the constant bulls***ing that angers me and makes me lose sympathy for her. Tell the truth and people will fall back.

Social media, why not with Mariah Carey? (50,199)
by Warrior Butterfly from USA
| |
|
|
Over the years I've noticed Mariah can have this presence where she almost feels untouchable or reliable. Not through her songs, just her as a person. Before Shania Twain went to Vegas she did a docu-series with Oprah (Mariah and Oprah always seem to get along). It followed Shania through her journey to get back on stage after a major personal set back. She didn't get to nitty gritty of the bad things but put more of the focus on who Shania Twain was as a person and what brough her to this point in her life. Revisiting her past all the way to where she was standing at that moment. After seeing the program my prospective of Ms. Twain shifted from her being a singer to a actual person. Maybe if Mariah sat with Oprah or allowed the public in general to get a bit closer, cry, yell, laugh she might not appear so distant from her fans or the general public.

2015 is gonna be the next big era (50,196)
by Mimiismychanteuse from sweden

Hi lambily (the true ones, not the ones that secretly tries to bring her down). First time I ever post here but reading this Archives for years. I can't believe all the lambs talking about Mariah like this. The women who has given us her all for the last 25 years, the women who has come longer way than 99.9% of all artist in the history, the singer-songwriter who has penned more hits the any writer has. No I don't like at all the fact that Nathan Morris decided to go all national about that statement, a true friend calls you and ask you to meet them and tells you everything you need to hear in person. Especially when that friend is Mariah Carey and who has helped you get your biggest hit. Mark my words 2015 will be the biggest year since Mimi era (btw MIAM album was amaziiing but the promation ). I hope that LA Reid helps Mariah Carey to teach the world, some lambs, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande a lesson. That she is Mariah Carey for a reason, nobody and I mean nobody can sing like her, not 90s not 2000s, not now and not forever. First let her and her team promote Vegas with all the major daytime and late night talks in the USA. Then work on a new song that is going to be the next Nr 1, play it for the radios and release it with a super dope video with a couple of celebrities in it. Two versions of one song, one with vocals and piano only and one for the clubs where she calls dj mustard and create a new beat. This is part one, part two will come soon enough.
