Mariah and Nick extended (46,127)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Those are very good points, LC. There might be something to that. Nick was on Hot 97 and Power 106 last month and said he and MC were "fine" and he "just left the house" when asked if they were separated. Last week he was on Jimmy Fallon Live and didn't say anything about MC directly. He mentioned, "*we* don't like the kids watching TV. It's Frozen 24/7 in my house." On Mariah's instagram site she has a picture of a book with her hand on it. Her butterfly ring is where her engagement ring should be, but she is still wearing her wedding band. It was weird because they're usually gaga over each other's projects, and haven't been in awhile. Although, to be fair, Mariah isn't really talking about her own either. But, I'm sure that silence will be over pretty soon.

Faded, tour (46,126)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
When I listen to the beginning of Faded, I still wonder what she whispers, what the first noise is, and if the second noise is Morris code for something. Am I the only crazy one who keeps dwelling over this? Any ideas? I find it ironic that Mariah promoted MIAMTEC mostly in the US and she has not announced any American dates. Unless she promoted it in some other form elsewhere that I'm not aware of. I do have to say that I read a Mariah blog of a fan from the Phillipines. He said that he had helped with the promotion of the record with other fans. I haven't heard of any fans doing this in the US. Is it because the foreign fans know the record company will not do it as much and the fans resort to that? I just wonder if Mariah notices how certain fans go out of their way to help her out, instead of criticizing her 24/7 on a messageboard. I even wonder if she has a fake profile here and defends herself incognito. It'll be funny if she does.

Mariah and Nick (46,125)
by LC from USA
| |
|
|
I know that a lot of people are saying that Mariah and Nick might be getting a divorce because of Nick's absence from social media and his lack of comments about his and Mariah's relationship recently. But, does anybody else think that maybe Nick is keeping quiet and doing all these things to fix the marriage? I mean, in most of Mariah's recent interviews (namely, The Breakfast Club), whenever asked about him, she has been saying that Nick says too much and that she'd like their relationship to be more private. And recently, in interviews, Nick has been talking strictly business and entertainment, avoiding conversations about Mariah and his family. Does anybody else think this might be the case?

Thank you for the kind words, you're far too kind. I think Camouflage is one or the many tender moments on the album. I actually like the background vocals/layerings. To me they are representative of the many thoughts that are likely to be going through your head at the point at which you are feeling the emotions of the song. There's no clarity in your mind, yet the most heartfelt sorrow is the one that rises to the fore, being the overall theme of the song. I'm glad you are discovering the full breadth of the album, it's good to know other lambs are appreciative of such a wonderful body of work.

Webmaster / press release (46,123)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom

I get what Eric meant with his original posts. I guess we just have to take these press releases with a pinch of salt. It's not Mariah's doing, and it's definitely the industry standard to exaggerate. Everyone else does it. I suspect the webmaster's concern is that if non fans pick up on it, such are the extent of exaggerations, that it will lead to further ridicule of Mariah. I'm definitely not mad at Mariah for it though, it's not her doing. I think the webmaster has made his point clearly enough though, and perhaps people should lay off of him.

The problem is Mariah's "fans" are over her, don't have her back, and have lost respect for her. It's really disheartening to see her "followers" constantly bash her everyday on here with the " " comments about her supposed inflated album sales, and the derogatory comments about her current album sales. I mean first off we don't know they exact numbers for her albums sales from the past, so why are we acting so irritated about the projections. Better yet even if they have been inflated, why blame Mariah for other people inflating her sales, she can't always control what folks imbellish about her be good or bad, so like knock it off. Her current album is masterful, and it's a shame people didn't support it, they indeed did let her down by buying into the negative hype and not remembering what she really means to them. Yes this is my opinion and I am making a statement of it.

Webmaster, thanks for the addition. Then that's a new development, because they used to say records. These days I don't even really read the press releases anymore since they copy/paste it so much. I just skip to the "news" part of the articles.

So, I don't reply a lot here, I just read along. But let's clear something up: Mariah's PR always states over 200 million records, not albums. So that includes singles. That's all I had to add. [Webmaster: Maybe that's what they mean, but it is not what they write. "She has sold over 200 million albums" and "more than 220 million albums sold to date".]

I laughed, I got it. The thing that sucks about text is there's no infliction for sarcasm or anything else. Everything is taken at face value. Although, where PR is concerned I wouldn't worry about it. Over the past few years, that's become a staple in the business. I noticed with Shakira's release they mentioned a bunch of "hit" singles that weren't even released here. Same with Rihanna and even Eminem. It's not just them either. There's been a great deal of inflation for just about everyone and all the PR systems do it. Out of all of them, Mariah's actually the closest to real numbers. Originally, MC's website had specified "world" tour. I had assumed "Memoirs" was small and this meant she'd be hitting a lot of continents on this one.

Webmaster, Mariah is modest we know that. Her PR is doing what they're paid to do: to sell her image. Nothing they say is out of order. The way you wrote it looks like MC is to blame and it makes her look bad. Maybe you should have written theings differently. I guess.

Re Mocking business (46,117)
by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
| |
|
|
Once again, I will try to explain what I meant. I'm not mocking Mariah or her success. I fact, I'm proud of what Mariah has accomplished. I love Mariah and almost everything Mariah has ever recorded. I have one of the biggest Mariah collections in the world. And after all, I run this website for 16 years, posting daily updates. But I do mock Mariah's PR team. It gets tired that whenever Mariah announces a new album or tour, they must write that she's the biggest selling female artist in the world, that she has 18 Billboard Number 1 hits, that she has won numerous awards, etc. And they love to exaggerate. I know Mariah is modest (just watch an interview when someone ask her about her success), but her PR team is just the opposite. Remember when they wrote "the key singles such as Faded, Dedicated (featuring Nas), #Beautiful (featuring Miguel), Make It Look Good and Camouflage have featured prominently on numerous music charts"? And now the press release also has mistakes ("This will be Mariah's first reemergence to the stage since her celebrated and extensive 'The Adventures of Mimi' tour in 2006."). Most websites will believe what's written in the press release and if it's full of mistakes and exaggerated, than Mariah will lose her credibility and will be mocked.

When the webmaster mocks Mariah's success, how can the other post with respect? Mariah doesn't need to inflate her numbers to be noticed: she is more then a bunch of albums sold. I actually find it insulting.

Surprised no one else noticed (46,113)
by nikki from usa

After the announcement of her label descending into 3 different ones I thought everything Mariah was doing finally made sense. This process would have begun long before the official announcement and within the label people would've known their time was coming up. Mariah hasn't had a publicist in 2 years. No one was promoting her album or single so she stalled with several releases of Beautiful. The label was about to be permanently shuffled and Mariah's project would be lost in it. She noticed the red flags because she already deja-ed this vu at Virgin Records. She decided to create an album she'd be proud of as an artist instead, since it was unlikely that it would be supported, especially since this was her last. All these singles being released from iTunes to Facebook was MC testing her markets. "In the future we won't need labels." Mariah's using this era as a testing ground to find new ways to promote herself. She's doing a lot of behind the scenes things from changing publishers to new products. We know of 2 music videos created which haven't been released, she's going on tour, and has a beverage out that's going to give fans exclusive material. It looks like MC is working on a connection with the hardcore fanbase and working outward with the tour. Mariah's getting all her ducks in a row for a good reason. Times change and you need to find your niche. That's exactly what she's been doing from private Clear Channel performances within the industry and mini tours she's been on from 2012-2013. She's recreating her name starting with MC basics: her success, her music, her vocals. Until the ink is dry on her other projects she's not going to make it known, especially if she's having home issues. Mariah Carey: "I can't stop writing songs so don't be surprised if you hear a brand new song that I just wrote the night before the show in your city." Perhaps the fans will choose the songs that make up her next album?

Hi Webmaster, I'm a dedicated Mariah fan and I've been visiting this page for 5 years now. It's my first time posting, so I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I noticed your post about Mariah's PR team claiming she has sold 220 million albums worldwide and you disagreed with the statement, saying that she had sold only 200 million albums a few months ago and that this was impossible. Well, could it be that there was a recalculation of Mariah's worldwide sales? I mean, it seems to be updated every era, because during the Memoirs era, it was always 160-175 million albums worldwide. Then after, she used 200 million albums. I understand that it is an inflated number, but according to Billboard or Soundscan rules, an artist can claim to have sold however many records as long as 20 percent are certified. I mean look at Madonna's sales. In 2000 she had sold 120 million albums, then all of a sudden it's 250 million in just a few years, when it's obvious she didn't sell 130 million albums in that time. I'm just saying I think Mariah has every right to say how much she's sold because with all the disrespect going on, she needs to let people know who she is. Thank you for hosting such a great site.

"This will be Mariah's first reemergence to the stage since her celebrated and extensive 'The Adventures of Mimi' tour in 2006." What about the Angels Advocatie Tour in 2010, which visited 20 cities in North America, starting with a spectacular concert at the Madison Square Garden in New York City on New Year's Eve 2010? And her concerts in Egypt, Australia, New York, Atlanta, Gold Coast, Monte Carlo, etc?

I wasn't mocking Mariah, I was mocking her PR team. When an artist only sells 0.1 million copies of her latest album in the USA (and much less in all other countries, e.g. in the Netherlands Me. I Am Mariah only sold a few hundred copies), I think modesty is in place. But instead they just add another 20 million copies to her total album sales. And they say "albums" and not "records".

Don't really know what to think about your post to be honest, mocking Mariah? Making her look bad? I mean first your post about Mariah not selling over 200 million albums, what was wrong because it's more than 200 million records sold what is a big difference and now this. Idk but I find it a little weird. Bring on the defenders but that was the first thing I thought after reading your post.

220 million albums (46,107)
by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
| |
|
|
You can say what you want about Mariah, but she is the only artist who can sell 20 million albums in just 3 months. In May 2014, her official website wrote: "She has sold over 200 million albums and is the recording artist with the most number one singles in America." Her latest press release reads: "Mariah Carey is a true music icon and the best-selling female artist of all time with more than 220 million albums sold to date and 18 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles." Just before the tour starts, I bet they will write: "Mariah Carey has sold more than 250 million albums. Her current album, Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse, has sold over 5 million copies in the USA alone and has a dozen hits, including Meteorite, Fading, Money and the chart topping single You Don't Know What To Do. Order your tickets soon, because her concerts will sell out in just seconds." I love modesty.

My theory (46,106)
by Jessica from USA
| |
|
|
Okay this is just my observation from everything ever since the album release but I believe Mariah is indeed going through a divorce behind the scenes. Some lambs are in denial and just don't want to believe the rumors are true but this could be one of the main reasons we haven't heard/seen much of her as of late. All the signs are there. She has replaced her engagement ring with the butterfly ring. They haven't been photoed together in awhile, also Mariah usually sends out tweets to support Nick's projects, which she hasn't not once. I've noticed in Nick's recent interviews he doesn't mention Mariah at all, even when bringing up dembabies and actually got irritated when asked about Mariah. Also does anybody find it weird that neither Nick or MC have shut down these rumors swirling when in the past Nick has been so quick to do so? Also him just deleting his instagram was kinda of odd. They are known for always publicly sharing their love for each other so it just seems like something is off with them. I truly do believe that Mariah was letting us know something with this album. However, I really hope I'm all the way wrong and they have just become more private because I'm worried our girl would break down if faced with a divorce being that her parents divorced when she was very young.

Good point. I have already accepted that this album is done and over with but every now and then the frustration builds up lol. But no, you are right and I guess I'll get there eventually. As for the lyrics being promised, well you know how iTunes and Mariah had a twitter chat arranged for fans where Mariah was online for a while and fans could send in their questions? Well one of them was about the lyrics not being included and Mariah answered that she is aware of it and that she will be releasing it soon in the manner she wanted to. Now what manner would that be, no one has a clue. It kind of gave rise to the speculation that she maybe doing lyric videos or that like someone wrote here that she is holding back lyrics as a publicity stunt to get fans to go crazy over figuring out what she's saying in the songs and all.

Spot on MimiLamb (46,103)
by May from Denmark

Quote: "Trust me it only frustrates if you keep thinking about it." Haha, it kinda made me laugh because I feel exactly that. While I have already let go the whole idea of remixes, possible video and new releases for this year, one can't help (or at least me) to think what is going on. Like I said before, I don't care if she wants family time (which I think she deserves), free time to think and put things together if anything is broken or just relax in a nice beach, whatever. But far so long, so silent one simply would like to know anything, a line, a message, a small statement other than "look guys what a great book I'm reading". But like you said, time to "let it go". It won't quit my anxiety for more MC music though, overall after reading from herself in that tweet not that long ago the word "working" haha.

Maybe Ariana, next copy cat? (46,102)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
While I don't think Ariana stole from the song Never Forget You (don't think she can write a note anyway haha), truth is it doesn't have the same melody but it does have the same vibe and all the same style, not only musically but the way it is sang as well. It's clear that Ariana's management is trying to make out of her the "next Mariah", all you got to do is see how they are styling her lately, the hair is exactly the same one MC used to wear for the longest time and they are even changing her color making it more alike to Mariah's in her prime time. Even her dance moves for a couple of her songs were a blatant copy of Mariah's style from Honey and Fantasy and don't get me started with the white boots, Mariah has been walking on those as well. Only someone who doesn't know Mariah or is deft or blind wouldn't notice what they are trying to accomplish with Ariana. Her music is superficial and doesn't have a longevity print because she is purely for the commercial machinery to keep moving on, the songs are made for her and obviously they are digging into MC music lately just to stamp that signature on Ariana and take advantage of it. Ariana sings well, there's no denial, but her voice is weak compared to Mariah. "Often imitated, never duplicated."

Fresh start (46,101)
by MimiLamb from Germany

This album will not get anymore promotion, so it's time for us to move on as well. Ofcourse it's hard because the album is that good but I don't think she will release a single/video from this album anymore, when yes great when no oh well. Trust me it only frustrates if you keep thinking about it. We have been going through ups and downs these last few months, more downs than ups but hey let's just keep our faith and try to start fresh giving the woman the benefit of the doubt instead of going through the same thing over and over again. I think it's wise she is staying silent, I just have a feeling it's for a very good reason, maybe new music or maybe finally taking the rest so she slays these concerts in Asia with live performances that we all want to hear and see from her. Nina, when did she promise to give us the lyrics? Because I cannot recall her promising that.

Thank you for your kind words. Your comments and take on things are always a breath of fresh air here. Camoflauge is a great song. The lyrics are so deep and tender. My only beef with the song (and it's a small one) is the overuse of background singing. I don't know. It seems a "less is more" approach would have been better (aka Looking In). Anyway, it is a great song. With this album I've taken one song and really listened to it for a few weeks before discovering another track.
