It's like it's impossible for people to understand that behind the talented superhuman vocals there is also a formidable songwriter/producer and the fact that she is super pretty doesn't help either. I thought because she's a terrible piano player and doesn't play guitar that there was no way she could write songs. I've seen every interview she's ever done and she's never mentioned it. I was under the impression that MC and Mimi wrote most of her songs. I thought Casio wrote All I Want For Christmas is You. I thought Gloria Estefan wrote Hero. I thought Eminem wrote Clown. I thought those scribbling noises on Faded were mice scurrying across the floor. I thought she was just drawing stick figures in her journal during the Can't Take That Away video. I thought that section of her writing Never Too Far in Glitter was just acting part of the script. My Butterfly can now fly over the Rainbow abandonedly. She won't actually be recognized in popular culture as a great songwriter until she writes more hits for others. Past accomplishments can no longer be mined. It may be a win-win. She gets the recognition she seems to want in that way (and some income) and doesn't have to struggle with the live performances. Mariah isn't talked about in those circles when great songwriters/producers are mentioned, and I'm sorry one award three decades later isn't enough, Mariah deserves 10 other prestigious "icon" songwriting/producers awards. Mariah has won so many songwriting awards but they weren't televised not that nobody really watches those anyways, like the fact that she has over 33 BMI awards for songwriting. I mean this imperfect angel is unbelievably successful yet it don't compare to her talents, A gracious musical genius who devoted her life to her music and her fans. She is a real life Barbie, has an overly girly persona, she is so sexy and she knows it, a person of faith. Many people can't handle a women who dares to speak up, knows what she wants and who likes to be in control. History has shows that usually has insecure men bothered. The critics now mostly resort to baseless accusations and try to go after her character when so many from the industry and not just the stars has said she is one of the nicest people in the industry. It is also one of her harder songs to sing because it's built like a tradition ballad and keeps building and has a clear big climax, she is yet to do justice to 25 plus years later. It seems that every year she struggles with it more and more and I don't understand why she keeps trying to sing it at every show. She can barely even do the low, breathy parts without struggling these days. It sounds painful when she tries to do the belting portions of the song. I cringe at the "feel your body, feel your body, feel your body" every time she does it. Let's not even talk about the lipped parts of the song that sounds vastly different from her current live vocals. MC, please retire that song from your live shows. I don't think she dislikes the music, probably more the personal life at the time. But even then, the song "Now That I Know" says all that needs to be said about how Mariah felt about entering into marriage with Tommy. "By your side I can conquer the world." And conquer it she did.
