Will the real MC come back? drop the diva-tude schtick (41,295)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
This diva attitude as of lately is not cute or endearing to anyone other than herself - who obviously thinks she's the real life Regina George. I am her biggest fan but I can look at her music and behavior objectively unlike a lot of her fans on here. It's really sad that she is so insecure that she cannot age gracefully and behave like other icons. Patti, Aretha, and even Whitney in regards to ushering new talents in the industry and basking in your former glory. Whenever these legends are asked about other female singers they always give some sort of feedback. Mariah can never acknowledge another female star without some catty comment or side eye. Even JLo whose the same age as Mariah and has similar fame in her own right is positive about MC and is not shaken about other females. The Ariana Grande shade was very mean spirited because you know she's heard her music before and especially since Nick is a DJ there's no excuse that she doesnt know todays modern music. I just think that it must have hurt a lot to have MC not even acknowledge Ariana as a person when in the past she's always been so nice about MC in interviews. Its ashame because Ariana is so young and you would think that having a daughter would have made her softer to accept young girls in the game. In closing, I don't think MC will change, only get worse as the media continues to blow smoke to her because she's one of the last living legends.

OK, let's stop it (41,294)

Why is everybody here complaining so much? JD did great job as a manager, the way the new single exploded is amazing. We got the song, its remix and a video almost on the same day. All these radio and TV interviews - Mariah's behaviour wasn't that bad. MTV (as a network) isn't serious itself, so why she should be "just decent", why not acting weird just for fun? Same with morning radio interviews when people are on their way to work, why is it so bad to entertain them? Come on people. A guy telling you into your face that you're national treasure. She's some kind of modest person, turning it into a joke was the best she could did. Or maybe you all would rather prefer her to agree and be like "yes I am, praise me now". Is this and all these Number 1's obssesion of MC's fans the only way to inflate their egos? Go and find yourselves a hobby instead of demanding Mariah to act this or that way. Tommy time is over. Period.

Interviews, what I expect (41,292)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
On interviews pertaining this era I expect Mariah to bring the attention to the single and the music to come. I didn't hear "You're Mine (Eternal)" playing or even introduced to be played on the interviews I've watched. People need to know about the single, and its versions. I don't mind Mariah being fun, and goofy as long as she talks about the single, the album, the process of putting the song together, that should be the main focus of the interviews. Mariah Carey has given wonderful interviews before without being robotic or detached. "You're Mine (Eternal)" will rise on iTunes as they keep on adding it to different radio stations, but we need a couple of performances to take advantage of the momentum.

Mariah (41,290)
by George Golden from UK

Why is Mariah still doing the same song and video over and over again? We know you are beautiful, but enough with all this naked videos. She is predictable, it's a joke now. It kills me to see people saying she is doing fine when apparently all is not well. Try something different, don't paint the same picture over and over again. What is Jermaine doing as her manager? She has got yes people around her and the creativity has stalled. Her friend is her stlylist, her friend is her manager, it's really sad the way she is going. Tommy was very influencial in making her the star she is today and it is evident now. Her wanting to be black more than anything else has ruined her seriously. Wanting to do hip hop tracks and rnb has resticted her from growth and it's really sad. You guys can thump down my comments but the truth is hard to swallow. The song is mediocre at best. Is she afraid to sing? What's going on? Her voice is amazing but she is still bent singing songs that she feels is black music. Sing for everyone that is why you are Mariah Carey. Having yes people around her is going to harm her career seriously. Did Jermaine think that this song and video were amazing? Really?

So I get why you're saying why hasn't anyone mentioned the good interviews and I think the reason is because they're just that. Good interviews, they aren't groundbreaking 60 minutes or something, they're basically what you expect to hear from Mariah in a good interview.

I agree with those about Ariana. I admit, I did get her at first. I actually really do like her. I think she's a very nice girl. Her voice is totally different then Mariah's.Her "whistle" isn't good and she's even admitted that. I do think when she performs it's a tad bit Mariah. She's always said nice things about Mariah even to the point of putting MC up and lowering herself so to not compare. Mariah never has much to say about other female singers. She comes off as very insecure, even about AI. I actually believe Nicki, looking back Nicki is also a person who paid Mariah a lot of respect. She even mentioned "Someday", what non fan do you know who name drops that? None. I'm turned off by this behavior. She's acting like Lifetime tv version of a bad actress playing a over the top diva. She's always been a diva but she still was the down to earth, girl next door that everyone was rooting for. Something has changed, the world has changed. Nobody likes a diva. People want to feel like they connect with you and that your down to earth. That's why Adele is so popular.

Whisper (41,287)

So I've noticed Mariah's been using her full voice instead of the whisper for the past few singles and I love it. I've always preferred her full voice to the whisper because when she belts it's so much stronger.

Continuation of previous message (41,286)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
In my last message I talked about why I think Mariah acts and does certain things in interviews. We'll I just wanted to add on buy saying that I think part of how she acts has to do with who's interviewing her. Like the Breakfast Club they were talking about Mariah being ratchet and how she's the surfboard type. I honestly doubt she would be very serious in an atmosphere like that. But if you put here on Oprah she'll be serious because Oprah's interviews are pretty serious.

I agree. I thought the video was amazing, certainly better than her prancing around in a barn. She actually shows emotion on her face and I love the water scene. I think the story shows that she's a mermaid/butterfly that wants to come to land for her man like Anita Baker said.

Yes, RJJ12, so many "Maybach" moments. With more to come. But I agree, she's given me everything I asked for and more with this single release. I notice that people need to watch interviews and watch videos and listen to the song a bit more. Like live with this release for a minute. It's been two days and folks are already complaining about this and that, in which they contributed nothing. I've found the interviews to be real and down to earth. The Breakfast Club interview was more of the real MC, IMO. The song hasn't even made its impact on radio yet. People act like the iTunes charts are the end all, be all. Obviously, once we get these live performances on day and night programming the sales and also spins will increase. Everyone I know who has heard this song and the remix, love it. And not lambs, the regular Joes that don't know a play by play of MCs music career.

The Trey scenes in the video where he is at a photo shoot just doesn't make sense or match here scenes in any way. The last scene with him in the bed is the only scene with him that sort of made sense like he's in bed dreaming of her.

Interviews (41,281)

I saw a few interviews where she was not drinking and was answering questions to the best of her ability. Why hasn't anyone mentioned those as well as the supposed bad ones? I thought the Breakfast Club interview was hilarious and I didn't think what she said about Ariana or Beyonce was shady at all. To not know a song is not shade. I take it you all know every song by every artist that is played on the radio. I'll wait.

Mariah losing respect (41,280)
by Eternal from Italy
| |
|
|
I'm glad most of us lambs are finally facing the fact that Mariah is losing touch of her own self. Sites like Perez Hilton have picked up on her rambling conversations about inane topics and her ever increasing fervor for champagne, and all this negative press serves only to distract listeners from her new single. It isn't about blindly criticising Mariah, it's the fact that her recent appearances are making her lose the hard-earned respect that she has spent half of her life to attain. When people talked about Mariah in the 90s, they talked about her amazing vocal range, technique and huge catalogue of brilliant songs like Vision of Love and My All. People loved that about her and bought her albums/singles willingly. Now whenever I hear my friends and family talk about Mariah, they only know about her crazy diva demands, arrogant attitude and how she seems to take so much effort to reach certain notes. That makes her unlikeable and a non-lamb wouldn't buy her songs to support a person like this. The last time she appeared in public like this was in 2001, let's hope that she gets the wake up call she needs before she ruins her own image and career again. The last time she had an excuse that she worked too hard, now it's been 4 years since her last album, what's the excuse Mariah?

Ms Giselle darling / video song / other things (41,279)
by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia

How could you defend Drunk In Love's having a storyline, yet not see it for You're Mine? Well then, by your logic You're Mine's storyline would be: Trey couldn't get Mariah off mind at his photoshoot and Mariah couldn't get Trey off her mind in the rainforest. See how simple that was. Moving on: The video was actually cute, she could've done more of course, but what are we gonna do right? It was cute enough. The song is also cute and lovely, is it the next WBT perhaps not, but it's not a bad effort. I believe she'll drop something killer right before the album drops (at least I hope so ). Another thing is, the only people MC has shaded in her recent interviews were the people who deserved it: Nickolas Minaj and Feminem (shade intended). She actually indirectly wish Ariana success and longevity and the her not hearing Beyonce's song was not shade at all, the beyhive was reaching on that one. Now, I admit she should lay off the bubbly and give more serious interviews this era, but as long as she makes great undeniable music people will overlook whatever you all think the problem is. For the person that claims "no one is checking for her", how do you explain the platinum success of #Beautiful? If there's one thing you of all people should know is that you can never count Mariah out. She will always rise from the ashes like a Phoenix. They said her career was "damaged and over" after Glitter and she's still here. So stop I say.

Interviews (41,278)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I agree with everyone saying Mariah was acting divaish and tipsy during interviews. I think this was on purpose though I think Mariah is probably bored of hearing and answering the same questions at every interview so she just skirts around actually answering them. As for throwing shade at the mention of any female artist, I can see why she does it. I mean it's a Mariah Carey interview, she wants to talk about her and her music, family, husband etc. Not Ariana Grande comparisons or the Nicki Minaj AI feud.

This era (41,277)

I believe M is off to an awesome start with this new single. A promo video right before the release of the single and the BET performance. She dropped the single, its remix, and video all on the same day and went on a slew of interviews. Today she did more and tomorrow we get the dance remixes and the remix video. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for a ballad when it’s cold outside during Valentines. She seems to have fixed most of the mistakes made for the release of Beautiful. Clueey, she must have read your message about the Mabach and decided to do one better and light up the Empire State Building. She also finally dropped a great solo song that is classic, yet current, with a great vocal climax. The only somewhat gripe is the video, and her alcohol consumption during interviews, which may be causing her to lack the ability to have a conversation with the interviewer. She seems better in interviews during press day # 2. Since the board seems to be unanimous about this issue, I ask everyone to pray for her. You never know what someone might be going through, regardless of their success, money, and team of employees. The people around her in 2001 weren’t looking out for her best interest, so we can start by praying for her and wishing her good health, happiness, and success with the new record. I just want to thank her for the effort she has put forth this go round. We complained and for the most part, she has delivered.

The video (41,276)
by Darryle from USA
| |

I think I have a piece of the video figured out. Everyone says that the shots with Trey Songz don't make sense. Well I think they are supposed to show the line "Suffered dreams of you all through the night." When they show Trey that could be Mariah's dream. And at the end when there's glitter in the bed that could be from Trey dreaming of Mariah. I think Mariah intentionally did this so this video and the remix video could be a two part video.

Empire state of mind (41,274)
by Danny Braden from Uk

What I'm currently seeing as a fan is a woman being treated like a legend and superstar but the public not buying into tag literally. Any radio show/TV show etc is going to be high profile with Mariah as a guest but other than that I don't think she will reclaim her commercial power due irrelevance and I mean that in the kindest way. Her image does not fit into any market at the moment. If you look at the UK iTunes charts it's all about one hit wonders with a guitar or dance beat. Also I don't think she has a mental health problem. I think by her own admission she has insecurity so imagine being under scrutiny live on TV and she knows we all sit and judge her she mentioned this live on radio the other day (you will all talk about me when I leave I know you will). She is always thinking and worrying about her image which in turn she's having a negative effect on it. She needs a good PR team to help with this. She should celebrate she's a foxy 40-something international superstar who can enjoy the second half of her career basking in her achievements, releasing musk when she feels able to.

Stop bashing Mariah and support her (41,273)
by Marquise from USA

|
|
It saddens me to see so many lambs just bash Mariah. It's like you guys are turning against her. You assume she is some crazy drunk, yet she never spoke to you guys and told you all of this herself. She can't please everyone. You guys bash every single and then calls her a drunk etc after every interview. If I was Mariah and I saw some of these post it would be hard for me to think you're a lamb. There is a way to critique her in a constructive way, but calling her an alcoholic and saying she has a mental illness is just wrong, and not helpful at all. All this does is create a negative dark vibe on this messageboard when we should be helping You're Mine do well, not pick at Mariahs so called "flaws" all day. None of you are psychologist or her best friends so don't say stuff if it hasn't come from the horses mouth.

The video for You're Mine (Eternal) (41,271)
by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

I actually quite like this one. I wasn't a big fan of the choices made for the Almost Home video or the original #Beautiful (I prefer the video for Hermosa, because it seemed more natural fun and playful then the original version). I can understand where people are coming from being tired of the vanity shots and the shots where Mariah displays her assets so to speak. I like this one though. I think it's tasteful and she looks like a glittering goddess of love. The water shots are mermaid-like and she looks beautiful. Sometimes when a concept is too staged, Mariah doesn't seem natural or comfortable. JMO. I think Trey's shots made sense because it's her thinking about the guy in the song visually, and I thought the tattoo or note on his chest was interesting. Have had the hook of the song stuck in my mind all day. Lol.
