Couger hair (41,608)
by Joyce from USA
| |
|
|
Oh geez, I said her hair was lovely, it is pretty and it really is. But it makes her look older than she is and it's one of those "every other celeb over 45 or 50" is doing at the moment. She is really 30 when it comes to physical appearences. That hair ages her too much. It's total cougar hair. Older celebs tend to wear it, with more makeup, and tighter cloths. They have long cougar hair to gain a youthful appearance. And I'm not going to be made to feel guilty over my opinion. You don't agree, I get it. I respect it. The summation I gather from nearly all of the comments as that "we want to see something new". Everyone is saying to change it up for once, that things have been too similar to the recent past and I couldn't agree more. Some specify it's the song style that needs to change, others appearances but everyone agrees, a change and new direction is in order. Or simply put, she looks nice but aged by the cougar hair and gowns, out of touch and not down to earth as she had once been since before TEOM. That's all.

My 2 cents (41,607)

Hi guys/gals, I feel that with You're Mine is a really nice gift to have from Mariah. I read somewhere here that someone said it was quickly put together just so it can be released in time. I don't really feel that way. I really feel it's a quality song that I've been looking forward to rather than another "for fun" release. If you're feeling what she is feeling in the song, she did her job. It's just like DFAU when I listen to it. I would love for this song to reach top charts but the way music is leading towards these days I highly doubt it. I really do believe the whole "illuminati" conspiracy. You have these women who blew up and really their songs are trash. I'm really grateful that Mariah doesn't have to follow those steps and be a sellout cause that's just really how I see it.

I still don't get all the hate this song is/has gotten. I love it. It's her best ballad since TEOM.

You contradict yourself lady. You post that Mariah needs a new do. Then you post it's nice/beautiful whatever. And state although it looks nice. It makes her look older, lol. I'm really curious to know how you'd want it?Really, tell me. I've never heard anyone mention or talk about "cougar hair". Why are you so focused on her hair? It looks great. And as far as her gowns and dresses, okay in my book she's dressing according to her age. She's free to show a little skin here and there. She's enjoying her youth as much as she can. Maybe something you didn't do.

The video (41,604)
by enwar00 from usa
| |
|
|
There's a poll on Billboard.com that asks who's new video is best, Mariah, Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj. I voted for Mariah (naturally) and the results showed that she's winning with 60% of the votes currently. I think this is kind of funny based on many reactions here. I like the video overall. Sure Trey's scenes being in the original version seem kind of choppy or unnecessary, and they could have used way more of the rainforest instead, but I still like it.

Re DayDream 327 (41,603)
by G.G. from USA

Re DayDream 327: "Also I think she needs to branch out out of her comfort zone." Exactly. Sometimes people's best works come from them doing things outside their comfort zones. I completely agree. You can be yourself and still try new things. I, personally, would love for Mariah to do an EDM record with Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, Avicii etc., and show the world that EDM can have soul.

I somewhat agree with you. To be honest I like YM. Though the lyrics are simple is probably why some find it boring. But I think what hurts the music is the video. The video has some good scenes but it gets boring staring at her holding on to her jewels throughout the whole video. Also I think she needs to branch out out of her comfort zone. She needs to work with different writers and kinda give up on rappers for a change. She doesn't necessarily have to have someone else write a song for her. She can be a co-writer. I don't think Mariah has lost her creative side when it comes to music. I just think that she's stuck with working with the same people and with that you somewhat get the same result hence you get the comparison of WBT and YM. Almost Home and AOLG are 2 different songs and I happen to like both. The girl can still sing and she needs to continue singing. Maybe the reason some don't like YM is because it's not midtempo or up beat. Which some of us are used to. Not expecting YM to hit number 1 but will be happy if it reaches top 20. With current trend going on now. I won't be surprised if Katy Perry or Rihanna end up racking in more number ones than Mariah. Records are meant to be broken but the quality of their music is no where near Mariah. Also we have to count on radios support. If they don't play YM then it won't take off even if we all lambs call and support it. I guess we all just have to wait what Mariah got for us in this coming album.

Gloves (41,601)
by Jenny from South Africa
| |
|
|
I'm not sure the gloves are a fashion statement. A lot of the times she only wears it on one hand and it's always the arm that got injured and she said in a interview that her arm is almost back to normal which implies there's still a little more healing to go. Maybe the glove is there as extra support or something. I know maybe that will sound far fetched but it's just an idea. Maybe I'm wrong and it is just a fashion statement lol.

I often wondered as well. I'm with Mimi L. and agree that it might be a fashion statement. As she took the word (elegant) right out of my mind, lol. It is elegant, and nice. Sexy, yet classy. I think Mariah pulls the look off well. And looks gorgeous. I like it. And I would love for her to put her up like she did in the video for "Can't let go". It would go.

Songwriting (41,599)
by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC

I have been checking out the message board lately and I see that some of you want Mariah to forfeit her songwriting and allow others to do it for her. Me personally I disagree this is another part to Mariah Carey the artist being able to express herself openly and freely on her own accord and honestly for me it makes her more relatable that she take her thoughts opinions and feelings and put them into songs.

Lamb oh couger hair (41,597)
by Joyce from USA
| |
|
|
Relax, lol. I'm just saying her hair style as of late ages her far beyond her years. She still looks 30 and not 43 but that hair needs a software update. In the video for Beautiful, she looks ah-may-zing. Her hair, very natural. But put that gown on, gloves and aged hair do and gain unnecessarily years. See that dress I'm wearing? Big no-no.

Thanks to you all. It was a funny story, such a random comment from my daughter. I guess I listen MC more than I realize. My daughter has good taste. Yes Licia, I did have my boy on November 20th. He is baby #3 and my last, lol. Hard to believe he is already three months old and so chunky. Ahhh yes, Daydream theme would be perfect. You know me so well. I'm still laughing at the two people who hit the "thumbs down" icon. Did their finger slip? Must be the case, lol. Thanks Stephen. It's nice to be back. May 6th, here we come. I can't wait. I am enjoying You're Mine more and more.

Relax (41,593)
by Joyce from USA

Actually it seems we agree on everything but the hair and clothes now that you are not accusing me of suggesting she sell her soul to the image gods and tweenies just for record sales. Yup, it's a pretty hair style, real nice and so are the glamour gowns but, hair styles and outfits can age you older than you really are. I think the whole ensemble is a miss and though small, contributes. I hope those around me would not be afraid to have a conversation on things they feel, be in my best interest, even in just tossing around a few ideas on a message board. FYI, this is not an attack on Mariah but more a commentary on a community board where we share our ideas, hopes and suggestions on what could benefit her career, things we'd imagine could. I don't know her but what I have seen, she seems like a fragile woman with a resolve stronger than steel, who is human like the rest of us. All we can really do is hope for the best and watch from our tablet screens and iPods what comes next in Mariah's iconic career.

Growth is painful (41,591)
by Me. I am Carly from USA
| |
|
|
I believe that Mariah must feel a bit left behind by being with a young energetic guy like Nick, not to mention that she is a mother and a wife, it must be hard in a way for someone like her who used to be flitting all over the place like Nick to be in a completely different world in many ways. I think that all the hardship is probably good for her as long as she chooses to grow because of it. I imagine it must be hard for Mariah also to have a husband who appears to have had a very solid childhood. I think Mariah is being forced to confront a lot about herself. I am ready to hear about it.

Jeremey Carey / BET lip-syncing (41,590)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Jeremy Carey, my very good friend was in the audience for the upcoming BET performance, he's Mariah's no. 1 fan, but he told me that Mariah actually lip-synced that day. He isn't sure if it was the whole thing, but he's completely sure she did. He was disappointed, but let's hope the press stays quiet about it. Since she was on that very tight dress and basically maneuvering on the piano, I don't blame her for having lipped part of the song.

Mariah is trying (41,589)
by Me. I am Carly from USA
| |
|
|
As she states in the PLJ interview she is trying, trying to answer questions, reigning back the instant negativity in her answers, stating her appreciation and admitting she needed a few days of sleep. I really enjoyed the interview and she didn't dashing the whole time or drink at all. Very nice. Very mature interview. I enjoyed the tidbits: 3 new songs added over the last 2 months " for a reason". And she is mixing now but still set for May 6th. Songs with "total misery" to get her feelings out over many "issues" she has been dealing with. Without all the distraction Mariah is clearly having a rough time and had a heck of a year good for her now I hope we can see some healing and happiness come back.

You are absolutely right, I thought the same. During the radio interview and 106 & Park interviews Mariah tried to bring JD into the conversation but he was either being shy or just wanted Mariah to have the whole attention. Which is very nice of him too. I like Mariah's friendship with JD. She was saying in the Ralphie interview that JD is very understanding and encourages her to work with and release singles which she wrote with other writers (like TMB). So that's sweet. Webmaster, am I exceeding the limit of posts I can write in one day? Lol because I just wrote multiple but it's Mariah dahlin' and I'm addicted so I keep chiming in. So forgive me if I am wasting your time. *lowers head and let's hair cover the face in mock shyness* (pulling a Mariah move)

I agree as well they could have asked him questions, but I got the impression that he was just trying to allow MC to get her shine. Even when she pulled him in to the interview he kind of tried to back off. That's just how it seemed to me.

It's a fashion statement. I think Mariah wants to make it her new statement accessory for this era. It's very elegant too. I would prefer if she leaves the fingerless ones (both long and short) though.

JD (41,585)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I really don't get why people are attacking JD. He is actually a pretty good songwriter and like L A Reid said, him and Mariah really work well together. And JD didn't even write or produce YME, so why hate on him? About everyone who is saying that Mariah is trying to make WBT part 2 happen, I disagree. Just because a song's theme is similar, it does not make it a copy. The theme of YME is yearning to be with an ex, which was WBT's theme too, but hello it's the theme of like more than half of Mariah's songs, even pre-TEOM (Butterfly, CLG, DFAU). Writing love ballads is M's specialty and there are only limited storyline you can write a love ballad with - being in love, looking for love, and yearning for your lost love, telling your ex you'll be fine without them. What I mean, it's the people and articles that are comparing YME to WBT (in case of articles it's mostly because WBT is probably the only big love song from M they heard about, not everyone is a lamb). M never compared it to WBT, infact in the interview with Ralphie I believe she somewhat cleared it up a little. She just said that she leaves her song open to different interpretations like for her YME is a sad song but people take it as a happy song and she said it's similar to WBT as well because WBT is a sad song but some take it as a song about being together with your lover. I don't know if I am making sense, my point is, YME and WBT both have same theme, but they are not copies.

Isaac / interviews (41,584)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

Yes, she did look really uncomfortable and went completely quiet. It's not her team's fault either because Mariah has to do multiple interviews per day and it's the team's job to tell interviewers when their time is up. I am sure if Tabitha would have asked nicely, Mariah would have just answered her. The woman wasted a couple of minutes just shouting at the publicist, instead of utilising the time politely and smartly. About the JD thing though, I think they don't ask JD anything because he is there as her manager and not collaborator, but yes I agree they could ask him just a few questions out of respect as he is a pretty hot shot producer and songwriter with many hits under his name.
