I think her confidence would be much higher and thus likely to release music more often, do more live performances and be in the spotlight a lot more. It's a shame we have to go so long without hearing new music but we'll always have her extensive catalogue and nobody will take that away or forget her. She should be studied in Music School, I believe some already have. The Mariah Carey course has a nice ring to it. She's unique in a lot of ways, always imitated but never duplicated. My all time favorite artist.

I hope it is something like Ring ft. Kehlani. I love that song.

That's good news if true. I honestly think if Mariah is taking this year to experiment and primary do collaborations with multiple artists on their projects I'm open to that too as long as it's not something she won't get credit for. I am still salty about Ariana dropping Mariah like that. I am seeing rumors of MC16 being ready almost. Can you tell I'm thirsty and starving for new Mariah material?

It is supposedly a pop/upbeat song. I don't think it is a remix, it is a proper collaboration. I just hope it is either one of their first singles, not just a promo/buzz single. If it gets the proper Cardi B treatment as her first single it will definitely have a video and it'll definitely chart high (opening week at least). I'm excited for Mariah to go back to her uptempo first single formula.

Cardi B and Ari are still within the same broader range of Mariah's category. Besides in this day and age, artists dabble into everything that categories really don't mean all that much anymore. Country artists doing rap, Beyonce doing country, Billy Eillish does what she wants. Its all kind of mixed up now. I think music categories isn't as clear cut as it used to be.

Let me add, Mariah herself has incorporated all these genres into her albums and played with jazzy influences like Portrait and Subtle Invitation, then Mariah's had a couple of gospel influenced songs throughout her albums. And of course Mariah's had a huge influence in bringing hip-hop to the mainstream. So its not a huge jump for Mariah to do these.

She doesn't necessarily need to pick one of these lanes, since she's already doing all of them. What we want is more of them. Or rather, we want, well anything, since she's not releasing much at all.

I think it's inevitable that every artist reaches a point where they are no longer mainstream. It's just a natural process, new artists come along and people's focus switches. The thing Mariah has on her side is that she's part of an elite group that are considered the last legacy artists, or real artists. Everything these days is so manufactured and people forget about you easily these days. Fame is short lived and there's no longevity. The likes of Mariah, Celine, Whitney and Janet to name but a few were probably the last divas we will have and it's nice that they are etched in time. They are lucky that they are still relevant in the media as many others have been forgotten about.

Ok the question that I'm about to ask isn't ment to cause negativity or shade. Since we have been talking about Mariah's career tragetory and eras the last few weeks, I started to ask myself this question, and I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion. If Mariah's voice did not deteriorate (she can still sing by the way), do you think her career tragetory would have been different (from where we are currently at now), or do you think it was inevitable that she would be put in "legacy" status, due to her age, and ageism in the industry?

Yes and better that it's a collaboration from the start rather than a remix after initial release.

MC needs something like a Cardi B collaboration to get fans and non-fans hyped about MC16. I feel the collaboration is long overdue just like a Drake collaboration. Let's hope April gives us some huge surprises and annoucements.

I think Mariah will have another great era. She got her Las Vegas residency, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, plus new album coming soon and possible new song with Cardi. From what I see things are looking up for her so I don't get the whole thing she should not put anything out I have been a fan every since I was a little girl her music helped me through some hard times I am under no dilutions that her voice has changed but man I loved Whitney too and she is not here anymore and it breaks my heart because her and Mariah's voices gave me the chills so at least we still got Mariah and you guys shouldn't write off talent. I love her and think she is a music genius I will always want to her to record and put out records. I am your forever fan.

This is why I'm so confused about the lambily. Some of the same people who didn't want her collaborating with Ari and now wanting a Cardi B song. Mariah must be so confused as to who actually is her fanbase and how to sell to them. Personally, I want to hear it all but maybe she should pick a lane and stick to it. If she does go the contemporary route hopefully it will be the last time and then she'll just fully make more mature music like jazz and gospel in her 60's.

If they're collaborating, my only hope is that it's a bop and it's the main version, not the remix. Also another hope that it's actually promoted and not just announced and dropped.

Yes Mimi. They come on strong and then everybody forgets about them the next week. Do you remember the following?

1. Triumphant
2. 100%
3. I Don't
4. Infinity
5. GTFO
6. Save The Day
7. In The Mix

However, there is one that beats all seven of these that I mentioned and it should have had a proper video with a huge radio impact.

1. Out Here On My Own

Mariah's just lacking a good collaborator (105,776) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
You're not wrong about Taylor. Her team needs to be studied. They've got the world in a chokehold, she's unstoppable at the moment. Mariah's team hasn't been stable in a long time unfortunately. Thus the messy roll outs.

TEOM era will probably the last great era (105,775) by T from USA
She had three massive blockbuster eras in her whole career. Music Box, Daydream and TEOM. But some of the others would even rival some of today's big stars (debut, Butterfly, Rainbow, E=MC2). So I'm content with her "eras". The industry has changed so much, even since Caution. Honestly, an album only lasts one week now so there is no point even considering it an era in the way we used to look at things. 2008 was the last big era for Mariah Carey. Obsessed and Beautiful gave her some great chart success after that. AIWFCIY is a monster on the charts. I would love one more well thought out project with multiple single releases, music videos and remixes. But I just don't see that happening at this point. I'm glad we got to hear her on a Max Martin track, that was a bucket list item. I guess now we can hope the artist comes through with some jazz, gospel and blues. One can also hope for one more hot hip hop track with Cardi B and also the release of Someone's Ugly Daughter.

Mariah's just lacking a good collaborator (105,774) by jaker20 from US
Someone that she has chemistry with. Like Beyonce has JayZ who is essentially Beyonce's co-producer and is a full-time music artist and is in the studio full time. Or Taylor's parents, who are her money partners (I'm not insulting her, but let's face it, they're good with money and promoting her).

Mariah is on her own. In fact, her best career inspirations are the twins, who are probably behind her social media ideas. But she's not surrounded by musical nor business partners. She can't do it alone, especially a musical empire as big as hers.

The timing is also wrong. It should be just before It's Time moment or immediately after the holidays. Her timeline is just so messed up.
